“Royal Wedding” is a 1951 American musical comedy film directed by Stanley Donen, starring Fred Astaire and Jane Powell. Set in London during the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten, the film follows a brother-sister song-and-dance duo, Tom and Ellen Bowen, who travel to England to perform. While in London, both siblings find love—Tom falls for a dancer, Anne Ashmond, while Ellen is charmed by an aristocrat, Lord John Brindale. The film is best known for Astaire’s iconic dance sequence where he appears to defy gravity, dancing on the walls and ceiling of his hotel room.
