00:00at one point sean combs was a highly respectable figure in the hip-hop industry
00:12he was an influential mogul that many artists wanted to be associated with
00:17being a part of his circle often meant big exposure shiny suits and a taste of the limelight

00:49whatnot but you never really got my number so the super producer had a great eye for talent
00:57however after signing an artist he would rarely leave them satisfied in their business relationship
01:04bad boy is so rich in riches and it's so rich in defeat and i just happen to be the one rich in
01:12defeat i mean just it seemed like everybody that was on that label something really bad happened to
01:19other than me yeah so i think that's it says a lot let's take a look back at how did he ruined his
01:29own group's career after breaking multiple artists over the years soon combs would expand his business
01:38and brand to cable television being one of the most prominent and influential figures in hip hop at the time
01:44sean was approached to be the focal point of a new reality tv show for mtv it would be a glorified talent
01:52search for his record label that's our mission to find the talent we're gonna find that next star
02:01many aspiring artists from all over the world competed for a spot to be a part of the mogul's new
02:07hip-hop group he was scouting for both rappers and singers it was looked at as a life-changing
02:14opportunity for the thousands who tried out making the band premiered in the fall of 2002
02:22the first season viewers got a chance to see the talent search from start to finish
02:26by the finale combs selected the aspiring artist he felt had potential to be stars for the group
02:35finalists of the making of the band 2 diddy style knows who to be signed to the bad boy family number
02:42one with lloyd mathis
02:49fedrick watson
02:54sarah stokes
02:58this is the moment y'all all been waiting for
03:07dylan dylan dylan dylan dylan because i spit hot fire after a successful first season filming for
03:18the follow-up would quickly be greenlit season two of making the band would be more of getting
03:24to know the winners of the competition on more of a personal level this would be how the music mogul
03:30knowingly ruined their careers the entire cast was moved into a townhouse in the heart of new york
03:36hip-hop fans finally were able to see behind the scenes prior to shows like making the band
03:44consumers just saw the finished product of what an artist attempted to portray
03:49the reality series would pull back the curtain for fans
03:53and allow viewers to see everyone in their most vulnerable state
03:58music would not be the primary focus instead the show would be more drama based
04:04while combs was showcased as a big shot and music genius often the cast on many occasions got the
04:12short end of the stick rule number one of reality tv keep the cameras rolling even though you think
04:19you're getting choked out he won't stop breathing we got all types of new technology to revive people
04:23these days keep the cameras rolling the audience watching at home witnessed all their highs and lows
04:29often music took a back seat to the roommates relationships with one another there were
04:36many arguments and even fist fights between them the spats were quite entertaining but didn't help
04:42their image at all comebs often subjected the artist to what may be considered public humiliation
04:56they were given odd and demeaning tasks like detailing and washing cars now i'm gonna send them to the car
05:02wash and you make them wash some cars for free all day maybe they'll appreciate hip-hop then
05:08they were even forced to stand outside on the corner and recite biggie lyrics all day long
05:20the most humiliating thing was when he had them walk across the city for a slice of cheesecake
05:26the series had become fairly successful among hip-hop fans seeing the artist grow over the years
05:33help them develop a fan base before their first album was released their debut album was ironically
05:40titled too hot for tv thanks to the exposure on the show it did eventually go gold selling around 500
05:48000 copies worldwide however for the final season if he called us back but it's me and then i i i really
05:58don't know what to expect so i don't know what's going on combs apparently was unsatisfied with multiple
06:06members and he decided to dismantle the group he put through all the nonsense most of the members never
06:13fully recovered from the humiliation after the show ended they weren't taken serious among their peers
06:19or even by hip-hop fans the cast members were more known for their walk to brooklyn for desserts
06:27than their actual talent and songs none of them ever fully blossomed as legit artist with commercial success
06:35some of the cast gave up on pursuing music completely meanwhile the combs brand continued to grow
06:41after the success of the show he was fast-tracked to billionaire status as the years went on numerous
06:49of puffs former artists have negative opinions on the mogul due to how he chooses to do business and
06:55how he treats people what do you think about this story are you a diddy fan did you watch the show
