00:00On another rescue mission, we're going to rescue this little girl.
00:04As you can see, she's just chained up and absolutely going crazy.
00:08Bamboo is four years old.
00:11She's just a baby.
00:14The first time we met Bamboo, she was off to the side, chained to a little piece of wood.
00:21It's just really incredibly sad to see baby open, to put in that situation and seeing them stressed out.
00:27This is just rough to see.
00:30The country of Laos, they basically force, once a year, all elephants around the country to kind of show up to these festivals.
00:40Everybody, you see that hook in his hand?
00:43That's what he's using to control the elephant.
00:46It was so, so hot that day, and I asked her Mahut, which is an elephant caretaker, if you want to call it that,
00:51and you bring her down to the river, just pull off, and he agreed to that.
00:55She started playing, tossing the water over her back.
01:01That's how it should be.
01:02That little moment, she felt freedom.
01:04You can see she just wants to play.
01:12Hey everybody, we'd like to introduce you to the newest free elephant in the world, Bamboo.
01:18And her new adoptive mother, Maylan.
01:24Hey, Maylan.
01:25We were able to negotiate her freedom, which is always just an incredible feeling,
01:31knowing that she's going to be a free elephant for the rest of her life,
01:34that she's going to be at the handle-out elephant sanctuary,
01:37even with the possibility of being released into the wild.
01:40One of the most incredible things that happened in this story is that
01:45a lot of elephant took her in, and took her in as her own.
01:48And they do everything together.
01:50That's something that we didn't know was going to happen.
01:53It's an amazing feeling.
