Elephant chained up next to a garbage dump for years has the best reaction when he finally gets to walk (and swim!) free

00:00He'd also been used as a logging elephant in the past, so it really took its toll on

00:08his body.

00:09He's covered in scars from the traumas.

00:12You can see by his back that he's had a tough working life.

00:17It was really shocking emotionally for me.

00:19We knew we needed to take action right away because otherwise he was going to be sent

00:23back into the logging industry.

00:24The goal is to raise funds to help him out.

00:30We're here with Canun and the goal is?

00:34The goal is to get him off his chain guys as quickly as possible.

00:36Canun needs a good life and we've got a sanctuary willing to take him.

00:39It takes us around 45 days more or less to complete the funds.

00:45After we raised the money we knew that we started taking him home.

00:54We all met at Canun's camp.

00:56This is a kind of a stressed time because we need to load Canun to the truck and he

01:01never used to do that.

01:02We were warned, look this could take anything from 30 minutes to 5 hours to get Canun onto

01:08the truck.

01:09It's pouring rain and he just walked onto that truck.

01:17His owner even said I think he knows he's going somewhere better.

01:21I think it was about 8 hours that we were driving behind this elephant in a truck.

01:32And he's just waving his bamboo.

01:34It was absolutely amazing.

01:42We went to the sanctuary and he got a welcome buffet.

02:24On the second day when I was leaving, he was that dusky grey from throwing mud and dirt

02:29on himself.

02:32He was learning how to barge.

02:37Canun's rescue has totally inspired us to keep going and keep trying to rescue more

02:42elephants.

02:43Thanks to everyone involved and supporting this rescue, Canun was able to live out the

02:48remainder of his life in freedom and shame free.
