On Tuesday (20 May), autism rights campaigner Emma Dalmayne hand-delivered her 35,000-signature Change.org petition to Amazon’s UK headquarters in London, urging the retail giant to remove dozens of books that include damaging misinformation about “curing” autism.

Emma was joined at Amazon’s Shoreditch office by a group of fellow autism rights advocates, who staged a peaceful protest outside.

00:00We're at Amazon headquarters in London, the head office, we're demanding that
00:03these books here get taken off for sale. They're promoting harmful misinformation,
00:09they're saying that autism has a cure. We're all autistic, none of us are ill,
00:14we're not diseased, we're not injured, we're not a heavy metal injury. Heavy
00:18metal injury? That sounds kind of cool, doesn't it? To Amazon concerning some
00:22really dangerous books they've got online, are we allowed to take it in?
00:26It's this, but we've got a box to show what... I've been told you're going to protest outside in front of the building.
00:31Yeah, I just wondered if we were allowed to actually bring the petition in to deliver it.
00:35Uh, not really, no. Why is that? Who do you need to give this to?
00:40We need to give it to your book department. Hello. Yes.
00:42Yeah, now we're ready for someone to come in for a petition. We have a gentleman from the press office.
00:47Oh, wonderful.
00:52Can I take one little late? She really wants to come in, she's fuming about the books.
00:55One junior would be like, just be careful with the doors.
00:57Sure.
00:59Isn't there another way in?
01:00You jump in with her, go on.
01:02Yeah, I'll come with you.
01:03Right, go on then.
01:04So we're serving the petition to Amazon now. 36,631 people that want these books down.
01:12That's how many, look. We didn't return to Cinder, so we're giving the misinformation back to you.
01:17First, the press office say we were coming. I didn't get any email back. Yeah, it was about two weeks ago.
01:22We're just leaving these here. It's got the petition link and a statement from one of our volunteers
01:26saying that Amazon needs to get these down, that they're harmful. Imagine if Amazon took down all
01:30those harmful books and started working with us. It would be great for PR.
01:34My name's Amadel Main, and we're here to serve a petition to Amazon concerning some very harmful
01:43books that they've got on sale on their platform. I always use Change. They're amazing.
01:47They are inclusive. They're very helpful. They're very interactive. They're here with me today.
01:54I've been to Parliament to Downing Street twice with them. I wouldn't use another platform because
02:00with Change, you can use the updates. You can include pictures and links. I often get asked,
02:05oh, why don't you use the petition? You know, the government one. Why? When you can include images
02:10and links with Change.org and keep it going. Makes more sense. All right, so they accepted it.
02:19They've taken it, and they are going to contact me by email. I've insisted that we come in for a
02:24meeting with them to tell them why.
