00:00And speaking of children, brings me, of course, to that awful little girl who's become such a popular feature of our program.
00:06Here she is again with Hanley Stafford as her father, baby Snooks.
00:18Hello, Daddy.
00:19I'm Snooks. What are you doing up so early?
00:22What time is it?
00:23It's not 8 yet.
00:24Is it 7?
00:26No, it's after 7.
00:27Well, 8 comes after 7.
00:29I know it does, but it's different with telling time.
00:32Why?
00:34Because it is.
00:36You have to figure with hours and minutes.
00:38Where?
00:38On the clock.
00:40Here, look at it.
00:41What's those black things?
00:43Those, the hands.
00:45They point out the time.
00:46Where's the fingers?
00:48They don't have fingers.
00:49I got fingers.
00:50I know you have fingers, but those hands don't have any.
00:54Well, how can they point?
00:56Snooks, they just indicate the time.
00:58Now, look.
00:59Every time that big hand makes a complete revolution of the face...
01:02Oh, whose face?
01:04This face on the clock.
01:06That ain't a face.
01:07I tell you, it is a face.
01:08It ain't got a mouth.
01:10Of course not.
01:12Has it got eyes?
01:14No, and it hasn't got a nose, and it hasn't got ears either.
01:17And you call that a face?
01:20Yes.
01:22Do you feel all right, Daddy?
01:24I feel fine.
01:25Will you stop interrupting me?
01:27All right, Daddy.
01:28Well, now look at the clock.
01:29The big hand is the minute hand, and the little hand shows the hours.
01:32Now, these numbers all around the face each denote a different hour.
01:36Are you following me?
01:37Where are we going?
01:38We're not going anywhere.
01:40I'm trying to teach you to tell the time.
01:42Now, do you see these numbers on the clock?
01:44Uh-huh.
01:45The number at the top is 12.
01:46When both hands point to 12, it's 12 o'clock.
01:49Understand?
01:49Uh-huh.
01:50Good.
01:51Now, what is it when both hands point to 12?
01:54Oh.
01:55It's 12 o'clock.
01:56Is it?
01:57Yes.
01:58Oh.
01:59Now, I'm late for school.
02:01Oh, it's not 12 o'clock now.
02:03You just pay attention to what I'm telling you.
02:05All right, Daddy.
02:06Now, each time the big hand moves to another number, that's five minutes.
02:10And every time the little hand moves, an hour goes.
02:12Where does it go?
02:14Snooks, that has nothing to do with telling the time.
02:17All you have to understand is the movements of the hands.
02:20Now, let's see if you remember what I just explained.
02:22All right, Daddy.
02:23Here, now, look at this clock.
02:25Now, you see, the little hand is between the 7 and 8, and the big hand is on the 7.
02:29Uh-huh.
02:30All right.
02:31What does the clock say?
02:32Tick-tock.
02:33Oh, it says 20 minutes to 8.
02:37And good heavens, I've got to get dressed and get to the office.
02:40Look out, Snooks.
02:41Are you going to shave, Daddy?
02:43Yes, and don't trail after me.
02:44I want to watch it.
02:46Oh, all right, but don't pester me with questions.
02:48Why?
02:49Because I'll get nervous and cut myself with a razor.
02:52I just keep quiet now.
02:54All right.
02:55Daddy!
02:56Ow!
02:57Why do you yell like that?
02:58See, I cut my face.
03:00Boy, look at that slice.
03:01It's a beauty.
03:02You like it, Daddy?
03:04No, I don't like it.
03:06And I want you to let me finish, so don't make another sound.
03:10I won't.
03:11Remember now, Snooks, this razor's very sharp.
03:13Yes, Daddy.
03:14Will you be quiet?
03:16Uh-huh.
03:16Good.
03:17Now, just stand there and watch.
03:19All right.
03:20Daddy!
03:21Oh!
03:22Snooks, you made me cut myself again.
03:24Now, just get right out of here.
03:26I'll be quiet, Daddy.
03:27Well, you'd better.
03:28Hmm, this razor pulls.
03:30Hmm.
03:32What you doing now, Daddy?
03:34I'm stropping the razor.
03:35Why?
03:36Because it's not sharp.
03:38Yes, it is.
03:39How do you know?
03:40Because it's sharp and my pencil's all right.
03:43What?
03:44Now, listen.
03:45How many times have I told you not to take my razor from the box?
03:47I didn't take it from the box.
03:49I found it in the kitchen.
03:50In the kitchen?
03:52What was my razor doing in the kitchen?
03:53Mama was cutting an anoleum with it.
03:57Snooks, I don't believe you.
03:59Now you're going to get a spanking.
04:01Why?
04:01Didn't you promise never to touch my razor?
04:03Uh-huh.
04:04And didn't I promise to give you a spanking the next time you did?
04:06Uh-huh.
04:07Well?
04:08Well, I didn't keep my promise, so you don't have to keep yours.
04:12Oh, no.
04:13You're not getting away with it this time, young lady.
04:15Come over here.
04:16You simply must learn to behave.
04:22All right, that's all.
04:25Oh, stop it.
04:25I didn't hurt you.
04:28I'll come here and kiss, Debbie, and say you're sorry.
04:32There.
04:33That's better.
04:34Now, Snooks, I want you to tell me why I punished you.
04:38What's the matter now?
04:40That's just it.
04:41Just what?
04:42Please, you give me a listen, and you don't know why you did it.
04:46Now, here's Ted Kirsten with some advice on coffee.
