Transcript
00:00It was the free kick that defied the laws of physics.
00:12Roberto Carlos' famous goal against France in the 1997 tournois has stuck with football
00:18fans for generations.
00:20Now on a visit to Bluewater's Ballers Dome, the former Brazilian international has been
00:24inspiring youngsters who've been taking on a challenge to recreate that famous kick.
00:31The pitch was even set up to recreate that moment with French keeper Fabien Barthez standing
00:37ready to be shocked once again.
00:41With some more successful than others, everyone hung around for a selfie and of course to get
00:45a few autographs signed.
00:47It's important to have a space like this where the kids learn to shoot, learn to position
00:55themselves.
00:56In my case, it's more shooting.
00:57They were good.
00:58The score was very high and it's good that they took advantage of it.
01:03They concentrated on where the ball was going to be.
01:06So, for me, it was a very important day.
01:08Well, I absolutely know Roberto Carlos before.
01:13I'll be honest, I haven't played football in about 10 years.
01:16But we'll give it my best shot now.
01:23Right into the keeper's face.
01:25So Mr Barthez might have claimed my goal today, but for those fans who lined up to meet Roberto,
01:31this is what it meant to them.
01:32Bro, it's crazy.
01:33I met him in 2017, innit?
01:34But it wasn't really a meeting like that, it was normal.
01:36I was behind a barrier.
01:39So to actually meet him, the legend that he is, yeah, it's a blessing, I can't lie.
01:43Legacy, World Cup winner, Champions League winner, you name it, he's done it.
01:46So it was good to see him, good to get something signed by him as well.
01:50He said he was the first Federer fan that was here today as well, so it's a bit of a bonus
01:53for me being the only one there.
01:55So Roberto Carlos is my hero growing up and the chance to meet him, like we said, it was
01:59much in a lifetime.
02:00It was nice meeting Roberto Carlos.
02:02I loved it.
02:03The event was to celebrate the first birthday of Blue Walters dedicated football entertainment
02:09dome, Ballers, which Roberto is an ambassador for, alongside other icons Rio Ferdinand and
02:14Bobby Zamora.
02:15So it seems even with more than 600 career matches under his belt for the likes of Inter
02:21Milan, Real Madrid and of course Brazil, it might just be Roberto Carlos' appearance here
02:26at Ballers that sticks with some of these fans a little bit longer.
02:29Bartholomew Hall for KMTV at Blue Walter.
