Kyle Crabbs describes the tenuous relationship between the Miami Dolphins and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and discusses why the relationship was failed from the beginning.

00:00Relationships are hard. Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said it best yesterday,
00:06but if we're being honest, the Dolphins' relationship with Jalen Ramsey has been hard since the very
00:12beginning. I'm Kyle Krabs with A to Z Sports, and the Dolphins' ongoing saga with cornerback
00:19Jalen Ramsey will probably continue into the month of June, where the Dolphins would then
00:24have the ability to trade Ramsey and split their remaining salary cap commitments between both the
00:292025 and 2026 seasons. It's been reported in recent weeks that there's no shortage of potential
00:36suitors for Ramsey, which is good news for the Dolphins in potentially recouping something of
00:41meaningful value from an aging cornerback who can still play at a pretty high level. Now, as the
00:47Dolphins face a litany of pressure to win this season, moving on from Jalen Ramsey might feel
00:53like a counterintuitive part of a plan. But this marriage with Jalen Ramsey that goes back to
00:59when Ramsey himself reportedly had eyes for the Dolphins ahead of the 2023 season has been hard
01:04the entire time. It's been pulling teeth trying to get a smooth stretch of time between Jalen Ramsey
01:10and the Dolphins. Some of it, not anybody's fault, like the meniscus injury that cost him the first
01:15half of the 2023 season. But part of the appeal that the Dolphins and Jalen Ramsey had for one another
01:22was the chance for Ramsey to join fellow 2016 draft class member Xavier Howard to give the Dolphins a
01:29super duo of quarterbacks. The pair just played 340 snaps together in 2023 before the team moved on
01:37from Howard due to salary cap, age, and durability concerns. And even when those two were on the field,
01:45Ramsey was a part of the group of players that openly butted heads with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
01:51Fangio's one-year stay in Miami was highly speculated upon and highly scrutinized before a return to the
01:57Philadelphia Eagles. But Ramsey himself, after the team moved on from Howard, cast some very public shade
02:04at Fangio, stating openly, quote, I won't ever forgive dude for not utilizing our full skill set. So in 2023, Ramsey
02:13missed half of the season, shared only a handful of snaps with the player who was most enticing for him to
02:19join the team to play with and never got along with the defensive coordinator. And then 2024 happened and
02:25Ramsey, in the buildup to the start of the regular season, had a reported lower body injury that was
02:30preventing him from practicing that magically went away when the Dolphins gave Ramsey a contract
02:36adjustment that put him back atop the APY charts as the highest paid cornerback in football. But while
02:43Ramsey didn't miss any additional time throughout the course of the season, Omar Kelly of the Miami
02:49Herald has reported that Jalen Ramsey was a part of the team's issue from a culture standpoint this past
02:54year, struggling to be on time for meetings and setting the right tone as a leader within the
03:00locker room. So while Ramsey has probably had his fill after two disappointing seasons in Miami and
03:06sees the writing on the wall of a youth movement in place, the Dolphins didn't get what they were signing
03:12up for either. And that's why despite the pressure to win, you see both Jalen Ramsey and the Dolphins
03:19ready for a fresh start because this marriage has been hard since the very beginning.
