00:00U.S. President Donald Trump hosted his visiting South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House.
00:08The meeting, at least for Ramaphosa, was aimed at resetting strained U.S.-South African ties.
00:14But Trump used the meeting to confront Ramaphosa over baseless allegations of systematic killing of white farmers.
00:20These are articles over the last few days.
00:23Death of people. Death. Death. Death. Horrible death. Death.
00:36I must tell you, Mr. President, we have had a tremendous number of people, especially since they've seen this.
00:42Generally, they're white farmers and they're fleeing South Africa.
00:47And it's a very sad thing to see. But I hope we can have an explanation of that.
00:54Ramaphosa, eager to not feature in a repeat of an Oval Office showdown like that of Zelensky's in February, de-escalated as he countered Trump's claims.
01:03I really would like us to talk about it very calmly.
01:08We were taught by Nelson Mandela that whenever there are problems, people need to sit down around the table and talk about it.
01:17It will take President Trump listening to the voices of South Africans, some of whom are his good friends, like those who are here.
01:27When we have talks between us at a quiet table, it will take President Trump to listen to them.
01:34Despite the heated exchange in which Trump played videos on a large TV of an opposition party leader, Julius Malema, leading a controversial chant,
01:44he invited Ramaphosa and his team to a private lunch for further discussions.
01:47Following the meeting, Ramaphosa downplayed Trump's criticisms, adding that their private meeting was not centered around his concern regarding white farmers.
01:57Foreign ministers from the European Union and the African Union, AU, on Wednesday vowed to strengthen cooperation for peace, security and economic partnership.
02:11The commitment came at the EU-EU foreign ministerial meeting in Brussels, which the European Council said took stock of progress made since the last summit in 2022.
02:22The foreign affairs ministers of the European Union and the African Union have met for the third time.
02:28The last time a meeting like this was held, Russia had not invaded its neighbor, Ukraine, the war in Sudan had not began,
02:36and France, a leading member of the EU, had not lost its influence in the Sahel, where its military was forced out last year.
02:44But even more, both the EU and the EU are now confronted with a rapidly changing geopolitical situation.
02:51If we take the question of peace and security, we are all in front of a conflict situation, whether it be in Africa or Europe,
03:02and therefore we need to find solutions to this conflict.
03:09EU foreign policy chief Kaya Kalas lamented Russia's growing misinformation campaign in Africa,
03:15saying though it was hard to counter, the European Union will not give up the fight.
03:20It is true that we have the fight of narratives everywhere, and this misinformation is one of the tools that Russia is using, especially in Africa.
03:32We have to fight the misinformation and foreign malign influence all the time, but it is, of course, increasingly hard.
03:43Foreign ministers from both continents also committed to mediation efforts for ending the war in Sudan,
03:49and according to the EU, Africa remains a geopolitical priority for the continent at a time of increased geopolitical volatility.
04:02Benjamin Netanyahu says the war on Gaza will continue and end with the Palestinian territory being under complete Israeli security control.
04:11In a press conference late on Wednesday, the Israeli leader noted that despite mounting global pressure,
04:17the war will only end when Israel achieves its objectives.
04:21Netanyahu says that fighting will continue until all hostages are released,
04:25and with ensuring Gaza's full disarmament and the complete destruction of Hamas.
04:30He also stressed that after ensuring these goals are realized,
04:34Israel will proceed with U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial post-war plans.
04:38Trump had previously proposed that all of Gaza's residents are to be resettled in neighboring countries,
04:44followed by the U.S., quote, taking ownership of the enclave.
04:49The plan was met with global criticism, with many countries refusing the proposal,
04:54stressing that Gaza is Palestinian and should be for the Palestinians.
04:58Netanyahu also stated that he is open to a temporary ceasefire to release the remaining hostages,
05:03of which Israel believes 20 of the 50-A are still alive.
05:11EU trade negotiator Maro Sefkovic has confirmed EU standards on food safety
05:16are not up for negotiation in the talks with the U.S. over tariffs.
05:21The EU and U.S. are locked in talks due to expire in early July
05:26after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a 90-day window to negotiate.
05:31Washington has decried EU safety standards on agriculture products
05:35as one of the reasons for the tariff war.
05:38I think we've been quite clear that we clearly would preserve our regulatory autonomy.
05:45And if I follow a little bit the discussion in the United States of America,
05:50there is also lots of talk about, you know, having healthier food,
05:56what should be, you know, the composition of the food processing and so on and so forth.
06:01And I think we already had this discussion in Europe
06:04and we are very proud of our health and safety standards.
06:08If it comes to food, if it comes to agri-food production, we are going clearly to stick to them.
06:13So that's not up for negotiation standards?
06:15I think if it comes to health and safety issues, I mean, clearly these are not up for negotiations.
06:22Meanwhile, the EU negotiator says he is pushing for a fair and balanced deal with the U.S.
06:28But he says the EU stands ready to implement up to €95 billion of countermeasures if negotiations fail.
06:36We are already paying 10 percent tariff, we are already paying 25 percent tariff for steel,
06:42we are already paying 25 percent for cars.
06:44And we really believe that this is simply not fair.
06:48So we want to resolve it through the negotiated solutions.
06:53But of course, we are also preparing alternatively we would have to protect the European jobs and European companies.
06:59And therefore, we started the consultations on eventual rebalancing measures.
07:05A new series of U.S. products could be targeted for potential EU tariffs,
07:10including aerospace champion Boeing or alcohol products like bourbon.
07:14You can listen to the full interview on the Europe Conversation this Friday.
07:26The Hungarian government is to see through its controversial Transparency Act,
07:32the country's foreign minister announced on Wednesday.
07:39The bill, which has been compared to Russia's foreign agent law,
07:43could stigmatize and financially destroy media outlets and NGOs that accept foreign funding.
07:49Zihardo said he believes Ukraine is conducting anti-Hungarian propaganda.
08:18In the past, we have experienced a more active Ukraine's foreign benefits for as a major part of Ukraine,
08:23and one of the most important things we have this across the region.
08:23and a more active Ukraine campaign activities we experience here in Magyarországon.
08:32However, Ukraine continues to continue a more aggressive
08:37Hungarian-based and Hungarian-based propaganda in Ukraine,
08:42Hungary and in the international region.
08:47The informal meeting of the Organization of Turkic States was attended by leaders of EU Member States.
08:53Including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
08:58Hungary participates in the Organization only as an observer,
09:02but is very important for the Organization of States Seeking European Ties,
09:06according to the Consul's Secretary-General.
09:10Our European office, we call, is also a bridge between Europe and our Member States.
09:17Of course, our Member States separately have strategic-level cooperation.
09:23As you know, all our countries have embassies in Budapest,
09:28and the same as Hungarians have embassies open in our countries.
09:34At the meeting, Ciharto said that Hungary would like to further strengthen its relations with the Turkish state in the future.
09:41It's a political and energy change in Belgium.
09:52The country has decided to repeal its law on nuclear phase-out.
09:56The text adopted by the deputies goes even further,
09:59allowing for the possibility of building new nuclear power plants in the future.
10:04In 2003, Belgium decided to phase out its seven nuclear reactors.
10:09The current government has decided to go back on this commitment in order to meet current challenges.
10:15Today, there is a modification of the nuclear apprehension.
10:18We know that it is a low-carbon energy,
10:20which allows us to fill our European European climate objectives,
10:23but also an abundant energy.
10:25And we have three objectives, which are shared by European partners.
10:28It's a security provision,
10:30a pre-credited price and a low-carbon energy.
10:33And nuclear, in fact, fills the three criteria.
10:35At present, the European Union has around 100 reactors in 12 of its 27 member states.
10:41For the vast majority, there is no question of abandoning the atom.
10:45However, this pro-nuclear momentum also extends to countries
10:49that do not or no longer rely on this technology.
10:53The political atmosphere and public opinion have changed.
10:57I think that it is obviously tied to the joint situation
11:01with a huge geopolitical uncertainty.
11:03The gas dependence is still very strong.
11:06And so, very naturally, all that we can do to be more independent of the gas,
11:11we need to do it.
11:12The nuclear is a way, the renewables are another,
11:14and they are not contradictory.
11:15Germany could be the linchpin of a Europe-wide dynamic in favour of nuclear power.
11:20While Berlin has no intention of repealing its nuclear phase-out,
11:24the new chancellor does not seem to want to interfere with the plans of his EU partners.
11:30In another notable U-turn, Italy has paved the way for a return to nuclear power by the end of the decade
11:39to ensure its energy security and achieve its decarbonisation objectives.
11:44The United States of America will not break import from nuclear power by the culmination
11:58of nuclear power by the end of the decade.
12:01The new generation of nuclear power by the end of the century
12:03will not be used as a nuclear power by the end time.
12:05The human being is a nuclear power by the end of the year in Africa to pick up the end at the same time.
12:07The the nuclear power by the end of the century
12:09is quite a bit different to the start of the years
