Senedd Members have opened up about Wales playing host to the opening ceremony of Euro 2028 at a recent meeting, but nothing is confirmed yet by organisers. Cardiff will host matches, and being the second biggest stadium, there is hope that the eyes of the footballing world will be on Cardiff in 3 years time.

00:01The UK and Ireland are set to host Euro 2028, which will be one of the biggest sporting events of the year
00:07and bring thousands of football fans from all across Europe to cities across the British Isles.
00:12Cardiff is one of the host cities, with games set to take place in the Principality Stadium,
00:16the second biggest host stadium behind Wembley,
00:19and there is some hope that the venue will play a bigger role than most through the tournament.
00:25The opening ceremony is a big event which will go along with the opening game of the tournament
00:29and Senedd members have hinted that they are confident that the Welsh capital will be the location of the curtain opener.
00:36The Principality Stadium has played host to all number of massive sporting events,
00:40in particular the Champions League final back in 2017 when Gareth Bale's Real Madrid side won Europe's Premier Cup competition,
00:47so it will be no stranger to the big stage if it were to host the opening ceremony.
00:51Nothing is confirmed but at a Senedd meeting on May 20th,
00:55Conservative MS Samuel Kurtz said that as well as hosting six matches of the tournament,
01:00Cardiff will also be hosting the opening ceremony.
01:03The Football Association of Wales have not confirmed any of this and neither have UEFA,
01:08but the BBC have reported a source from within the FAW have said they are very confident of hosting it.
01:14The tournament will be the first to have four hosts, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England,
01:18with Northern Ireland pulling out of the competition and has meant automatic qualification for hosts is not guaranteed.
01:24But if one of the countries do not automatically qualify, there will be two slots available if the hosts aren't one of the 24 qualifiers.
01:31Euro 2028 is set to be a massive event and will take over Cardiff like other events have in the past
01:36and with a possible home crowd, the Welsh side will be looking for a 2016 repeat. Have some faith.
