00:00I think one thing is that we need to change the mindset.
00:03We need to make a single market for waste,
00:07because now we have a lot of regulation between our member states
00:11that are too fragmentized to get the really economic rise.
00:14The EU has had 50 years of waste legislation in place,
00:19still very little circularity.
00:21How can we make it happen for real?
00:23It's one of my frustrations, actually.
00:24I don't have the answer why we are not there yet.
00:27But if I look at the figures, in the EU the average is 12%.
00:31Absolutely not good enough.
00:32We have countries that are better.
00:34For example, the Netherlands have 30%,
00:36Italy 20%, Belgium 90%.
00:39But that is also not good enough.
00:42And also if you look at some of the critical raw materials,
00:46we import 90% of this from other countries around the world,
00:50and only 1% is recycled or reused,
00:54which is of course not good enough,
00:55and also not security-wise, not economically-wise.
00:58But I think the time is now for actually to do a better figure.
01:02How much of the solution is urban mining?
01:05An average family in Europe have 74 digital devices,
01:09and 17 of these are hidden in the drawer.
01:12And that is of course, it's an asset.
01:13And I see waste as not only digital,
01:16it can be water waste, it can be textile waste, all of this.
01:19We need to see as an asset that we also need to use more sustainable,
01:24more economical, and also for our own security.
01:27In the end, is circularity more sustainable or strategic issue?
01:32It's a two-sided one of the same coin.
01:36And in my view, and also when I talk with industry,
01:39they also see that going more circular is a business case,
01:42but do they get the economics right?
01:44There is no contra-prediction between those two elements,
01:47and also the third one, about the economic security.
01:50Thank you.
01:56Thank you.
