00:00Aloha, I'm Chris Berman and coming up on ESPN expectations are high when you're the number
00:07three overall pick. The last year Andre Johnson did not disappoint. Sixty-six catches, second
00:13most among rookies. We'll track his development in season two. Houston, Dallas, now.
00:21While the teams are out on the field getting loose, the fans are filing in and finding
00:26their seats for the game. Welcome to Texas Stadium, I'm Dan Steele. My good buddy Peter
00:33O'Keefe is with us and Peter, the story of this one has to be the battle at the receiver
00:39position. Well Dan, when you have two great receivers on the field, you know it's going
00:43to be exciting. Andre Johnson is a receiver who has unbelievable speed. This guy's built
00:51like a sixty-seven vet. He takes off, he's on the horizon before you can blink. Eshaun
00:58Johnson is another outstanding receiver and this guy is tall. He makes a nice big target
01:03for his QB and that wingspan lets him reel in passes that would whiz past other wideouts.
01:09Well better watch out because both of these guys have a chance to make some big plays
01:13today. Okay Peter, we'll see how they do once the game begins, but first, the toss of the
01:48night. There's the signal and we're ready. Cundiff kicks it off to begin the game. Moses
02:00catches it back at the six. Ran down at the twenty-six. J.J. Moses tried to run it out
02:08but the defense preferred that he stayed put and they made their case pretty forcefully
02:12there. The Texans' offense takes the field and they will start at their own twenty-six
02:18yard line. Davis picks up a yard on the play and that will bring up second down. Dominic
02:30Davis played it smart on that last one by following his blockers, but hey, they weren't
02:34able to open up any holes for him. Not much there, it'll be second down. Gotta take what
02:39you can get, Dan, but they were, you know, hoping for more. Lay loose, axiom way back
02:47at the twenty-two. Billy Blade sends this offense backpedaling with a nice sack in the
02:54backfield. They lose some yardage there, Peter. It has to feel like they're going down and
02:59up escalate. Yeah, good rule of thumb here is try to move the ball in the general direction
03:04of the other team's end zone. That, that's what usually works. They read that play the
03:09whole way and they force a third and very, very long. Monstrous deal to pass two downs
03:15for these guys. Third down, one man down. Williams ticks it away on the coverage. Incomplete.
03:23Fourth down, coming up. Roy Williams got himself in a prime position to bat away that football
03:28before the receiver even had a shot at it. It was third and very long and it didn't work
03:33too hard for the defense to stop that play right in its tracks. You know, Dan, that's
03:38what pressure on first and second down will get you. You push them into a hole and then
03:42it's hard to climb out. Fourth down ahead. Stan Lane takes the snap and punts it away.
03:49Smith fields the punt at the thirty-seven. Stop at the forty-eight. Suriel Smith did
03:57a nice job getting some yards after fielding the solid punt. The Cowboys offense takes
04:05the field and they are already halfway there. They'll start at their forty-eight yard line.
04:11Anderson goes in motion. Takes the handoff and searches for a hole. Number twenty-one,
04:18the ball carrier. Jay Foreman with the tackle. Second down, three wideouts in the game. Harder
04:47unloads this one to the left and it's to beat in the twenty-four. Chase down at the
04:53twenty. That will bring up first down. Quincy Carter, here's this one out beautifully. That's
05:03how you throw the ball, Dan. Take notes on who you want to be quarterback. Right on the
05:07money, Peter. He is just a fantastic passer. Well, it's easy to complete a pass when there's
05:12only one guy covering the receiver. And Peter, that play doesn't get off the ground unless he
05:18runs a very precise route. And he had to to beat his man. Couple of the best banging heads there.
05:23McCree takes the sack just behind the line. Marlon McCree goes in unblocked and nails him
05:36to the ground. The O-line should be embarrassed. Watch this. Oh, yeah. Sacks don't get much easier
05:42than that. They put a stop to this play behind the line of scrimmage. Pretty good call by the
05:47defensive coordinator. Agreed, Dan. They had it all locked up there. That will bring up second
05:52down. Bryant goes in motion. First and goal. Quincy Carter improvises on this one. It's called
06:13picking on your feet, and he does a great job of it. Yep, nice little scramble there. He saw he had
06:18no options, so he did what he had to do. First down, goal to goal. Glenn makes the catch out to
06:34the left, and that's a touchdown. Gary Glenn reels in the catch despite being covered by two
06:49defenders. Dan, I guess you just can't be intimidated. Check this out. Oh, yeah. It's all
06:54about being focused. He had his eye on the ball the whole time. He knew where he had to be. He'll
06:59get the touchdown, and he does it in style. Beautiful play. Now the point after, and the extra
07:12point is good. The ref gets the signal, and we're set. Cundiff booms a beauty here. Moses decides to
07:41take it out of the end zone. Tackled at the 23. J.J. Moses took it out of the end zone, and while it may
07:49have been a little risky, he gets out close to the 20, so it all comes out in the wash on that play.
08:02The Texans stalled early last drive, and we'll have to wait and see what happens here. They'll start at
08:09their own 23-yard line. Carr throws a heater, and it's tipped. Incomplete. Pete Hunter knocked that pass
08:21down, and he made sure the only one to touch the football was him. That had potential for some
08:25yards, Peter, but the defense was on top of it and shut it down. Good denial there. Second down coming
08:31up. Davis picks up a yard on the play, and that brings up third down. Dominic Davis used the blocking, but this
08:48stingy defense didn't give up much at all on that last play. Well, not much of a game there, and they will face
08:54third down. Third and long, too, Dan. Big play coming up. Carr passes a high long run, and it falls incomplete. Illegal forward
09:05pass. Number eight, offense. Five-yard penalty and loss of down. Fourth down. David Carr was past the line of scrimmage on that
09:16play, which made the pass irrelevant. That was an illegal forward pass. The penalty will hurt them big from here. It
09:23pushes them to fourth down. Yeah, if you ever wanted proof why you can't get sloppy on the field, here it is. Stanley
09:31finds up deep in his own territory to punt it away. Stanley gets the ball and punts it away. Smith gets it at the 38th.
09:42Right down at the 44.
09:45Jerial Smith seized some prime field position for his offense with that huge run back. They needed that, especially after that
09:52nice punt. The Cowboys had an effective first drive, and we'll see if they can keep it up. They'll start at the 44-yard line.
10:07Chews up four yards, and that brings up second down.
10:11Second and five. Ball at the 40-yard line.
10:27Whitten goes in motion. Jones gets the ball again, and heads up field. Tackled at the 34.
10:39Julius Jones took advantage of some really good blocking there on that last run. When you get the initial surge like that, good things
10:46happen, especially in the ground game. A decent play, and they'll now face third and short. That's the key thing to make third down
10:53easy, and they did just that. Now they just need to convert. We'll see what they do. Jones gains five on the play, and that will bring up
11:02first down.
11:08Glenn makes a tough catch, and he's got the first down and a whole lot more.
11:25Terry Glenn is head-to-head on this one with the pass coverage, and the ball is waiting for him downfield. That's a great catch. It's all about
11:33being in the right place at the right time, Dan. Perfect execution.
11:37Fantastic catch, and he is putting up great numbers. Got that right, Dan. He's now got 61 yards on three catches. And that'll do it for
11:48quarter number one. The Cowboys are out in front, seven to nothing.
11:52Whitten goes in motion. Carter fires this one over the middle, and the completion is good for six.
12:20Quincy Carter threw the pass into double coverage, but gets his man perfectly. Hey, that was one accurate throw.
12:26A decent play, and they will now face second and short. Would you take a shot here?
12:31Well, there are a lot of options in this situation, but it may not be a bad idea.
12:36Second down with the tight end right.
12:42He's in for the touchdown.
12:45Touchdown, Cowboys!
12:56Dan, this is a nice little run here. A good job of slicing through the deep and picking up the yards that he needed. I love to see fight like that on those shorter players.
13:06Neither that will put a touchdown in his stat column.
13:09And that's always nice to have, Dan. So far, he's got 17 yards and one touchdown.
13:21Here's the point after, and the extra point is good.
13:40The ref gets the signal, and we're set.
13:46Tundiff kicks it off.
13:50Lord fields the kickoff at the two.
13:54Right down at the 27.
13:57Jamal Lord got a very respectable return off that nice kickoff there, Dan.
14:10Texans, offense has to score here.
14:13This drive will start at their own 27-yard line.
14:17Baxter goes in motion.
14:23Carr zings it to the right side.
14:25It's intercepted! Cowboys!
14:29Back down at the 22.
14:39Terrence Newman has great presence of mind to react to the pass and make the interception.
14:45He turned upfield hoping that he could add some positive yards to the play.
14:49Yeah, he gets a little, but that pickoff was most important.
14:52Boy, that was a heads-up play to come away with his first interception of the game.
14:56Yeah, you gotta love D like that.
14:59The Cowboys are going to try and capitalize on the interception. They'll start this drive at the 22-yard line.
15:05Blue! 44!
15:08Blue! 44!
15:11Hut! Hut!
15:16Jones gains three yards, and that will bring up second down.
15:21Okay, what's the plan? Okay, let's go.
15:30Second and six. Ball at the 19.
15:33Single back!
15:34Down!
15:35Push it up! Go, 27!
15:37Push it up! Go, 27!
15:45Harden throws a bullet to the flat, and it's intercepted!
15:49It's alright, man. It's alright. You can do it. Don't worry about it. That's alright.
15:53I'm coming now. I'm coming. I'm coming.
15:55Three-six on your play!
15:58Aaron Glenn knew exactly where the ball was going on that last play, thanks to some great single-zone coverage.
16:04His positioning got him the interception.
16:07Boy, that was a heads-up play to come away with his first interception of the game.
16:11Yeah, you gotta love D like that.
16:13The Texans haven't got much out of their offense recently, and we'll see if they can get back on track here.
16:20This drive begins at their own 21-yard line.
16:24No good. Incomplete.
16:26Andre Johnson looked to be in perfect position to make that catch, but it didn't come together somehow.
16:32The incompletions keep piling up, and even here in the second quarter, it doesn't seem to be improving.
16:38Not at all. They're just not getting it together. The timing, the routes, the protection, nothing.
16:42A bunch of receivers out there. Defense is expecting that, and they've got a nickel.
16:47Carr really rifles this pass, and the catch is made well past the markers for a first down.
16:54First and ten. Ball to the Texans, 38-yard line.
17:10Woodson makes a play on this and forces the incompletion.
17:16David Carr has had difficulties to say the least, and now he's second-guessing himself.
17:21Terrible day. So far, he's struggled to get 17 yards and one interception.
17:35Second down and four wideouts in the game.
17:38Ball to the Texans, 38-yard line.
17:41And tackles him behind the line at scrimmage.
17:44That win was a one-man wrecking crew back there. He powered into the backfield and made the tackle.
17:50Nice job eliminating any forward progress on that play. That will bring up a third and long.
17:56Wow, look at last year's stats. Talk about a great season.
18:00Davis catches this one, and he will be short.
18:04Darin Woodson managed to take him down just before he got to the markers.
18:08They allow a little there, but they do force a fourth down.
18:11Way to attack the ball.
18:13Stanley gets ready to punt this away.
18:16Stanley gets the snap and punts it away.
18:20Smith, he's got the ball.
18:22Smith, he's got the ball.
18:24Smith, he's got the ball.
18:26Smith, he's got the ball.
18:28Smith, he's got the ball.
18:30Smith gets the snap and punts it away.
18:33Smith fields the punt at the 18.
18:37Stop at the 19.
18:40Suriel Smith got swarmed by the kicking team before he got very far.
18:44That nice punt pretty much goes unanswered.
18:47The Cowboys were intercepted last time out. We'll see what happens here.
18:51We'll start at their own 19-yard line.
18:55Bryant goes in motion.
19:01Jones hits his seventh carry of the game and picks up a couple.
19:06Julius Jones used the blocking,
19:08but this stingy defense didn't give up much at all on that last play.
19:12Not much there. It'll be second down.
19:14Got to take what you can get, Dan, but they were, you know, hoping for more.
19:18The Cowboys' 21-yard line.
19:30Carter rifles this one hard over the middle and it's intercepted.
19:35Tackled at the 31.
19:41Dan, this is a nice interception.
19:43Check his position out to make the grab.
19:46Got it.
19:47Well, that's their second interception of the game,
19:50and stingy is appearing to be the motto for their defense.
19:54Yeah, either that or give me the ball.
20:02The Texans can climb back into it with a score before half here.
20:06They will start this drive at the 31-yard line.
20:09Davis gets the call on first down and runs into traffic.
20:13Tackled, and the clock will continue to run.
20:29Carr airs this one to the left sideline,
20:31and it's knocked away from the receiver.
20:34Incomplete.
20:35Let's go back and revisit that last tackle in the backfield.
20:38Great stop.
20:40Well, and Dexter Coakley's had to be a battler to get to where he is today.
20:44Came out of tiny Appalachian State as an undersized linebacker,
20:48but, boy, he's made his mark in the NFL,
20:50and he might have left a mark after that hit there.
20:54Third down, 11 yards to go.
21:03Gavreel brings down the floater, and he's in for the score.
21:09David Carr throws right past the coverage and into his receiver's hands.
21:14Nice throw.
21:15Peter, that's his first touchdown pass of the game.
21:18How do his stats look?
21:19Well, so far, he's got 55 yards and one touchdown.
21:23Chris Brown to attempt the extra point.
21:26Chad Stanley holding.
21:32Here's the extra point, and it's good.
21:36Woo-hoo!
21:37Yeah, yeah.
21:38What'd I tell you?
21:39What'd I tell you?
21:40All day.
21:41All day.
21:42All day.
21:43Come on.
21:52There's the signal, and we're ready.
21:57Brown rockets this one deep.
22:00Bickerstaff decides to take it out of the end zone.
22:03Tackled at the 23.
22:08Eric Bickerstaff got out close to the 20 on that one,
22:11so his decision to take it out of the end zone didn't really pay off,
22:14but it didn't really hurt him either.
22:17The Cowboys have turned the ball over the pass two times out.
22:20They need to hold on to it as they start this drive at their own 23-yard line.
22:26Johnson goes in motion.
22:28Johnson goes in motion.
22:34Carter unloads this one to the left, and it's intercepted.
22:39Dragged down at the 26.
22:48Marlon McCree does a nice job picking off the pass there.
22:52He's got it, and he gets a little more with that nice little run back.
22:55That's their third interception of the game,
22:58and Peter, the D, is homing in on the passing game.
23:01Yeah, tough play. I love it.
23:04The Texans' offense is now on the field, and except for a few big plays,
23:09they really can't be happy with their passing game up to this point.
23:12We'll see what they call on this drive as they start at the 26-yard line.
23:17Davis takes it for his fifth carry and maybe picks up one on the play.
23:26Davis picks up about two, and that will bring up third down.
23:32Third down, one down.
23:34Davis carries it for the third time in a row and heads left.
23:40Tackled, and the clock will continue to run.
23:43Williams will be credited with the tackle.
23:46That will bring up fourth down.
23:48Brown kicks from 38 yards out, and he misses this one to the right.
23:56Chad Stanley had to use a butterfly net to bring the high snap down.
24:01Watch him adjust here.
24:03And he got the kick off, but that's no good.
24:06I kind of think the bad snap was a factor.
24:08That could have put them within striking distance of tying it up,
24:11but the kick is no good.
24:13They'll have to bust out of the gates in the second half, Dan,
24:16and get some momentum early.
24:18The Cowboys have had real problems turning the ball over.
24:23They'll need to buck the trend on this drive, which starts at their own 29-yard line.
24:31Rips him down in the backfield, and the clock will continue to run.
24:36Jay Foreman was a one-man wrecking crew back there.
24:39He powered into the backfield and made the tackle.
24:42That's his third tackle of the game.
24:49Johnson goes in motion.
24:5222! 22!
24:59Carter gets all of his arm into this pass, and it's intercepted.
25:05Stopped at the 32.
25:16Dunter Robinson not only shanghaies the football for the interception, but watch.
25:21Gets a few more after the catch. Great play all around.
25:24To react, make the catch, and then get some yardage to boot?
25:27You can't coach that.
25:29Yet another interception for this defense,
25:31and they're making passing just about impossible so far.
25:35Absolutely. Great reads, great jumps on the ball, great athletes.
25:39It's all happening down there.
25:42Offense takes the field with the clock at three.
25:46Has it sailed just left of the upright.
25:50Chris Brown is visibly unhappy with himself after missing this long field goal.
25:55Watch this.
25:57Well, he'll want to redeem himself after that.
25:59Question is, will his coach trust him with another long one next time?
26:05And that'll do it for the first half of this one.
26:07The Cowboys are out in front 14-7.
26:11And now let's send you to Chris Berman in our studios in Bristol
26:15for the ESPN Halftime Report.
26:18Hold it.
26:26All right, fans. Interesting game at the half.
26:28We'll get back to you guys in a bit.
26:29First, we welcome everybody to our ESPN Halftime Report.
26:33I'm Chris Berman.
26:34Now we'll look at our first half by the numbers,
26:36and I'll tell you, first downs have been the story here.
26:39The Cowboys should be way ahead on the scoreboard,
26:42but somehow they've let their opponent hang with them.
26:45Let's see if they can change things in the second half.
26:48Let's get started in this one early in the first quarter.
26:51Terry Glenn is going to find an opening in the secondary,
26:54and he'll exploit it here.
26:56A 32-yard play that set up a Cowboy touchdown.
26:59The Cowboys get the first points of the game and go up by seven.
27:03The boys, now early in the second quarter,
27:06ball at the three.
27:07Julius Jones got the carry as they pounded at him on the ground,
27:11and he made the most of it.
27:12A two-yard touchdown for the Cowboys.
27:15Texans later on in the second quarter.
27:18Texans losing by 14.
27:20Terrence Newman is reading the quarterback's eyes all the way,
27:24as he's able to get his hands on this one and pick it off.
27:28The boys have it off an interception.
27:30Aaron Glenn would come up with the big play to kill a drive,
27:33as he was able to step in front of a wayward pass for an I.M.T.
27:37Cowboys out in front, 14 to nothing.
27:41David Carr connected with his man on this one.
27:45The boys, midway through the second.
27:47Eric Brown shows some great awareness here as he gets himself into position
27:51to pick this one off.
27:54The Texans, after getting an interception, Texans back by 14.
27:58David Carr is back to throw as they want to air it out here,
28:02and this one is right on target.
28:03They climb back into the game, now down by seven.
28:07The boys, late in the second quarter.
28:09Marlon McCree is reading the quarterback's eyes all the way,
28:13as he's able to get his hands on this one and pick it off.
28:16Cowboys ahead, 14 to seven.
28:19Dunter Robinson is reading the quarterback's eyes all the way,
28:23as he's able to get his hands on this one and pick it off.
28:26And that's where we'll leave this one.
28:28Cowboys are holding on to a lead, 14 to seven.
28:32Today's halftime hero has turned in an incredible performance thus far.
28:36Terry Glenn has played outstanding.
28:39So that does it for our halftime report.
28:41We'll send you back now to the second half of this one.
28:43Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe are there.
28:45Gentlemen.
28:46Thanks, Chris.
28:47And today's game has been presented in ESPN Game Sound,
28:51designed and developed in collaboration with Dolby,
28:55the leader in audiovisual technology.
28:58Developed in collaboration with Dolby,
29:00the leader in surround sound technology.
29:03The Cowboys will receive to start the second half,
29:06and they currently enjoy a small lead, 14 to seven.
29:11Let's go down to the field.
29:14Brown kicks it off to begin the second half.
29:18Smith decides to take it out of the end zone.
29:21Leaps over a tackle.
29:24Well, Peter, some interesting information up on the screen.
29:27Oh, you bet.
29:28How they turned the ball over leaps out at you,
29:30and you have to think that that could come back to haunt them.
29:32Turnovers are the most telling stat in the NFL.
29:36Susie Colliver was down on the field and has some information for us.
29:40Susie?
29:41Thank you, Dan.
29:42Head coach told me at halftime that he's fairly satisfied
29:45with their overall play in the first half.
29:47He said, we did give up a few big plays defensively,
29:50but that's going to happen sometimes.
29:52We just have to learn from our mistakes and come out even stronger.
29:57It's always nice to see a coach who's optimistic.
30:00Guys, back to you.
30:02Thanks, Susie.
30:03Jones gets the handoff and chews up about four on the play.
30:08Second and five.
30:10Ball to the Cowboys, 34-yard line.
30:21Julius Jones stuck close to his blockers,
30:24but the play folded quicker than an over-caffeinated origami artist.
30:28Not a lot of room on that play.
30:30It will be third down.
30:32Third down with a split backhand.
30:34It will be third down.
30:36Third down with a split backfield.
30:38Ball to the Cowboys, 34-yard line.
30:48Glenn hauls it in, steps on the cover,
30:50and they get the first on third and long.
30:56Terry Glenn was really getting crowded out there with three defenders,
30:59but he still made the catch.
31:01There's another downfield catch,
31:03and, well, he's been grabbing his fair share of long balls today.
31:07Absolutely, Dan. He's owning downfield.
31:14Whitten goes in motion.
31:25Dunn has his number called on first down and gains about three yards.
31:31All right, what have you got?
31:33Okay.
31:38Second and seven.
31:40Ball at the 36-yard line.
31:46Jones has his number called on second down and gains about three yards.
31:52Number 93 with the tackle.
31:55Go, Quincy! Come on! We need first down!
32:00Third down, tight end to the left.
32:02Ball at the 33.
32:08Hartman throws a bullet to the flat and it's complete.
32:12Short of the markers, however, that will bring up fourth down.
32:16Jason Babin made the save,
32:18dropping the ball carrier before he could get to the markers.
32:21That's his third tackle of the game.
32:24Number one lines up for the punt.
32:29Number one takes the long snap and kicks what will be a short one.
32:34Moses fair catches it at the 11.
32:47The Texans have had some trouble moving the ball recently.
32:50We'll see what they do on this drive as they start at their own 12-yard line.
32:55Baxter goes in motion.
33:02Davis is at the 25.
33:06Hold it down at the 46. It will be first down.
33:10Stop making this too easy for me.
33:20Dominic Davis took advantage of some really good blocking there.
33:23They opened up a hole.
33:25And he's able to cross the line and get a bunch more without really much resistance.
33:30And that's what the O-line gets paid for.
33:32What a play! A massive pickup and an obvious first down, people.
33:38They weren't thinking first down as much as they were thinking touchdown on that baby.
33:42First down from the shotgun.
33:45Davis bounces for the ninth time and maybe picks up one on the play.
33:52Dominic Davis got some help on that one in the form of blocking but still couldn't make a play out of it.
33:58Not much there. It'll be second down.
34:00Gotta take what you can get, Dan, but they were, you know, hoping for more.
34:06Second and nine. Ball at the 45.
34:15Carr throws a bullet to the back end and he's caught.
34:20It will be a loss on the play, however.
34:22Reed Hunter targeted the ball carrier early and didn't even let him get back to the line of scrimmage.
34:27Nice job eliminating any forward progress on that play.
34:31That will bring up a third and long.
34:33Tanky, tanky, keep going!
34:45Woodson tips it away on the coverage. Incomplete. Fourth down coming up.
34:51Darren Woodson knocked that pass down and he made sure the only one to touch the football was him.
34:56Well, the D holds tight on third and long and forces an incompletion.
35:00That was a good call by the defensive coordinator.
35:03Oh, it sure was. Perfect D for that situation.
35:06And it will bring up fourth down.
35:08Stanley lines up for the punt.
35:11Stanley gets the snap and punts it away.
35:15Smith fields it at the 13. Tackled at the 16.
35:21Suriel Smith didn't get very far running that ball back, but on the bright side, the kick was pretty lackluster,
35:27so his offense gets pretty good field position anyway.
35:30The Cowboys send their offense out on the field and will start this drive at their own 16-yard line.
35:37Long tips it away on the coverage. Incomplete with the deflection.
35:44Quincy Carter has found limited success in the passing game so far, Dan,
35:48and he just can't seem to get into a rhythm out there.
35:50I'd say he's not very pleased with his performance.
35:53So far, he's got 95 yards and four interceptions.
35:58Second and 10. Ball at the Cowboys' 16-yard line.
36:04Johnson goes in motion.
36:17Johnson gets the snap and puts it away.
36:21Black 18!
36:29He'll get the carry on second down and gains about three yards.
36:40Wow, look at those tackles. That's how you play sideline to sideline.
36:50Hey, 160!
36:52Take mine! Take mine!
36:55Hut, hut! Hut, hut!
37:01Lamb catches it left sideline and is at the 35, 40, 30.
37:08Eventually shoved out at the 21. First down.
37:20Terry Glenn makes the catch and then takes it for a great run here.
37:24Now he's got it. If you give him the room, he'll be happy to take it from you.
37:29They've been having some real success by keeping him on the left side of the field, Peter.
37:33And that's because of the great routes he's been running.
37:37And that'll do it for the third quarter. The Cowboys are out in front 14-7.
37:50Cowboys! Cowboys! Cowboys! Cowboys!
38:00Bryant goes in motion.
38:08Carter just rifles this one and it's intercepted.
38:13Brought down at the 14.
38:17Carter!
38:19Kylie Wong does why you think twice before throwing a pass in his neighborhood.
38:23Watch.
38:25Great presence of mind to try for the football there.
38:27Boy, that was a heads-up play to come away with his first interception of the game.
38:31Yeah, you gotta love D like that.
38:37The Texans are going to try and capitalize on the interception.
38:41They'll start this drive at their own 14-yard line.
38:47Woo!
38:53Singleton makes a play on this and forces the incompletion.
38:58Alsherman Singleton got himself in prime position to bat away that football before the receiver even had a shot at it.
39:04That is their fourth batted ball.
39:06Tell you, we've seen a number of good defensive plays from this squad.
39:09You sure have. We'll see if they can keep it up, though.
39:12Second down, three wideouts in the game.
39:16Carr uncorks this to the left sideline and it's tipped.
39:21Incomplete.
39:22Hunter managed to disrupt it. He got in there and he smacked that pass away. Great D.
39:27They have really gotten after the ball as a team today. That is their fifth batted ball.
39:33Nice, aggressive D.
39:46He grabs the fastball over the middle and they get the first on third and long.
39:53Jabbar Gaffney made a superb catch even though he had three guys closing in on him.
39:58What a play.
39:59That's broken kind of a cold streak for him.
40:01The last two passes his way were incompletes.
40:04Yeah, let's see if he stays on track.
40:07Ball to Texas. 33 yard line.
40:15Woodson blasts him back at the 32.
40:18It looks like, yeah, we've had an injury down on the field.
40:22As soon as we hear anything, we'll be sure to pass the information along to you.
40:36Second down with the tight end right.
40:39Ball to Texas. 32 yard line.
40:49Davis carries it past Squimmage and picks up a couple.
41:06Car throws a bullet here and it's tipped. Incomplete. It'll be fourth down.
41:22Roy Williams came in and got a hand on that football and left no chance for a reception there.
41:27You know, as a team, they are batting down passes left and right. That is their sixth so far.
41:33Wow, great anticipation of the pass.
41:36Stanley gets ready to punt this away.
41:40Stanley takes the snap and punts it away.
41:44Smith heals the punt at the 25. Tackled at the 33.
41:50It looks like, yeah, we've had an injury down on the field.
41:53As soon as we hear anything, we'll be sure to pass the information along to you.
41:59You see this right here? You feel this? It hurts.
42:17The Cowboys offense takes the field with time winding down.
42:21They'll start at their 33 yard line.
42:29Whitten goes in motion.
42:38Jones picks up about two and that brings up second down.
42:43Julius Jones had some blocking help on that last one, but he was still left with nowhere to go.
42:49Not much there. It'll be second down.
42:51Gotta take what you can get, Dan, but they were, you know, hoping for more.
42:55Second and eight. Ball at the Cowboys 35 yard line.
43:06Jones gets the call again and gets past the line.
43:10Stopped at the 38.
43:12Number 93 with the tackle.
43:16Julius Jones is taking it up the middle and battling that defense head on.
43:20And you know what, Dan? He's winning that battle.
43:22Look at the numbers here. So far he's got 40 yards on 15 carries.
43:38Third and five. Ball at the Cowboys 38 yard line.
43:45Bryant goes in motion.
43:52Carter rifles this one high over the middle and he's got the first Cowboy of them all.
43:58Barry Bryant makes the catch with three defenders on his case.
44:03I just don't know why the throw was made in the triple coverage.
44:07It worked. Yes, it did.
44:09The balls are coming his way in the middle and he's making them pay.
44:13You have to like his performance so far.
44:15Well, Dan, I like any receivers willing to go over the middle and sacrifice the body to make the catch.
44:23Oh, look there. 150 plus receiving yards.
44:27He's been making plays all game long.
44:41Picks up six on the play and that will bring up second down.
44:53Second down. The clock is stopped at two minutes.
45:01Johnson goes in motion.
45:08No. Launches this one left of center and the Texans take their first time up.
45:14No. Launches this one left of center and the Texans take their first time up.
45:30Third down. Two tight ends in the game.
45:45Goes in. The Texans take a time out. That's their second.
45:51The Texans take a time out. That's their final one.
46:22Second down. Coming up on the tenth play of the drive.
46:31Whitten goes in motion.
46:40No. Takes the hand off and he's stopped.
46:44The clock continues to run.
46:46Woodson was shaken up earlier and I hear Susie Colber has a report for us.
46:51Susie?
46:52Thanks, Dan. I managed to quickly speak with the trainers.
46:55Apparently, he's hurt his ankle. They're looking at him right now.
46:58He seems to be in serious pain.
47:01The official word on his return? Doubtful.
47:04Back to you.
47:05Thanks, Susie.
47:10Well, Dan, they're not going to hurry here and there's really no reason to.
47:13They're going to take as much time as possible.
47:23Jones picks up a yard on the play and the clock will continue to run.
47:28It'll be fourth down.
47:30Well, Dan, they didn't get the first but they did manage to stay in bounds.
47:33Looks like they're playing the time game and they just won another 40 seconds.
47:44Fourth down. Six yards to go.
47:57Cundiff kicks from 37 yards out and he misses this one to the right.
48:05Billy Cundiff mops a kick here that's not a shorty but isn't that long either.
48:10Oh, that has got to rattle him.
48:12Oh, poor guy. I think what he really needs is a big hug.
48:15Yeah, maybe a new foot if he's not careful in New Jersey.
48:21The Texans start this drive of the game from well in their own territory and the clock at 25.
48:31Carr puts his arm into this one and it's tipped.
48:34That was incomplete.
48:35Incomplete.
48:37Terrence Newman came in and got a hand on that football and left no chance for a reception.
48:42They're working on him right now and it looks like he should be ready to come back in very soon.
48:48Dan, back to you.
48:49Thanks, Susie.
48:53Second down from the eye.
48:55Ball at the Texans. 28 yard line.
49:08Hunter makes a play on this and forces the incompletion.
49:13Oh, yeah, baby.
49:23Third down. The clock has stopped at 18.
49:32Carr unloads this one to the left and it's tipped.
49:35Incomplete. Fourth down coming up.
49:42Oh, yeah, baby.
49:48You see they didn't even blink.
49:58Davis catches it over the middle and he's short of the markers.
50:02They will forfeit the ball on down.
50:06That win makes his presence known on this one.
50:09He's going to haunt the ball carrier's dreams for a while.
50:12Oh, big tackle on fourth. That's how you stop a conversion.
50:15They had the right idea there going for it, trying to put the ball in the end zone, but they couldn't convert.
50:21It was the right time to roll the dice, Dan, but this time the house wins and they turn it over.
50:26Hardly any time on the clock for them to do anything, Dan.
50:29The only bright spot is if they have all three of their timeouts left.
50:32That's all, folks. They can now run out the clock. What a performance.
50:40And that is going to do it for this one.
50:44The Cowboys come out on top 14 to 7.
50:47For my partner, Peter O'Keefe, this is Dan Stevens saying goodbye.
50:52Until next time.
50:57Enjoy this one. We're going to get you next time. We're going to get you next time.
51:00It's all right.
51:10OK, Dan, thank you very much. And let's welcome all of you back to the studio.
51:15I'm Chris Berman here to bring you our ESPN Video Games postgame wrap-up.
51:20The Cowboys stepped it up for sure, putting up some good numbers.
51:25Let's get started in this one early in the third quarter.
51:27Quincy Carter would find his target on this one.
51:32Dominic Davis is going to get the carry here as they grind it out on the ground.
51:36He makes the most of this one.
51:39Cowboys out in front by 7.
51:41Terry Glenn came up with a huge play here as they cover a lot of real estate on this one.
51:47The Texans have it off an interception.
51:49David Carr would drop back and deliver a strike on this one.
51:52Texans down 14 to 7.
51:56Quincy Carter would drop back and deliver a strike on this one.
52:00And that's where we'll leave this one.
52:02Cowboys edge out a win, 14 to 7.
52:06Now let's check in with our player of the game.
52:08A guy who made one big time catch after another to help seal the win for his team.
52:14Terry Glenn was kind enough to give us a moment of his time.
52:17And he's on the field with Susie Colbert.
52:19Susie?
52:21Thank you, Chris. You gave an outstanding effort.
52:24And you won a close game today.
52:26What do you think was the critical factor in getting the Dunlop back?
52:29Man, the whole week the coaches had us totally prepared for this game.
52:32We knew all their tendencies before it happened.
52:34We knew each play before they called it.
52:36I got to give a lot of credit to the coaches.
52:39Back to you, Chris.
52:41That winds up our broadcast of the NFL preseason on ESPN.
52:45The worldwide leader in sports for 25 years and counting.
52:49I'm Chris Berman. Thanks for joining us.
