The European Union is a key target for fake goods.
00:08
Fake products are flooding global markets.
00:11
Cantefate trade is now valued at around 417 billion euros,
00:17
accounting for 2.3% of total global imports.
00:22
The EU has a big problem with it.
00:25
Around 4.7% of its imports, worth over 100 billion euros, are fake.
00:32
Germany tops the global chart,
00:34
representing more than a quarter of the total value of seized fake items.
00:40
France and Belgium are also prime targets,
00:43
with 9% and 7% respectively of the total global seized value.
00:49
The main source of these products is China.
00:52
The country leads both in the number of seizures and the value of fake goods,
00:57
followed by Turkey and Hong Kong.
01:00
Clothing items are the best-selling fake goods.
01:04
This, however, isn't just about knock-off handbags.
01:08
Customs officials are increasingly intercepting products
01:11
that pose serious health and safety risks,
01:14
particularly toys and cosmetics,
01:17
respectively in the 6th and 7th place in terms of quantity seized.
01:22
The presence of Cantefate automotive parts and pharmaceutical products
01:26
