After ten years Spitfire Espresso has moved from the Candleriggs to High Street, so we visited the team at their new premises.

00:00Hi, I'm Danny. I'm Emily. So this is the new Spitfire Espresso on the corner of
00:05High Street and Bell Street. So Spitfire Espresso is a specialty coffee cafe. So
00:12we're kind of crossing the bridge between high-end coffee and like high-end food
00:18and also just a really good environment, fun times. We got married in 2012, we were
00:23living in London and we shipped off to New Zealand and we'd been working in
00:27offices and I fell back into the hospitality trade and got a job
00:30working for a start-up coffee roastery and so I was moving into what they
00:35call it's basically specialty coffee and in my hometown and I was working with a
00:43roaster there and so I was learning about like the third wave of coffee at the
00:46same time was about like you know what specialty coffee is and we kind of
00:50thought I love it so I love the industry and I love everything about it and I
00:54like the way that you can develop and you can kind of deep dive into it and and so
00:59we thought we could maybe bring that because we just come out of the UK and it
01:04wasn't really taken off in the same way as it was happening in New Zealand at that
01:06point that was like 2012 so we just thought where's a good place and I'm from here so it
01:15was a good choice just to come back to Glasgow and have family and friends around us as we
01:20tried to create something that we were really new in my background is in fashion
01:27buying so I had an idea of you know how to run budgets how to do all the kind of
01:34background stuff so in terms of setting the business up that was me and Dan was all
01:41about coffee and the personality and hospitality we've been at candle rigs for
01:4610 years so when we when we first arrived we kind of knew the sort of thing we were
01:49looking for a corner unit near the middle of a of a you know like a hub but not
01:55necessarily right in the heart of it and that unit was amazing and then 10 years
01:59ago when we found it we were like this is it wasn't for lease and then a week
02:03later Emily was scrolling through right move and she was like it's here it's here
02:07so we just jumped on it we got really lucky we had a great relationship with those
02:11guys we went from a tiny little like and it was big for us back then it was huge we were
02:15like will we even fill it up with people fast forward 10 years and I mean it was
02:20maxed like we're maxed out so um so the lease was up and this unit is huge it has
02:30all of the same characteristics all the same personality it needed to be
02:34transitioned back into that but like it had all that potential we're like and we
02:38just love what's happening in this part of the city as well the high streets
02:41changing and we just wanted to be part of the kind of early wave of that and
02:47there's some other great places up and down high street now and I just feel like
02:51as as the city changes this was the right place to be this city has got a
02:56ridiculous amount of high quality coffee
