Staying largely dry for many areas over the course of the afternoon. Lots of sunshine around, especially once any low cloud has retreated to coastal areas. There is however a risk of showers, particularly across southern Scotland, northern England and western Wales. The majority of showers though are likely over Northern Ireland, where the odd one could be heavy, with lightning and thunder possible here. Feeling slightly warmer than yesterday for most - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the afternoon of 20/05/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Honor Criswick.

00:00Hello there, good afternoon.
00:02More rain and showers on their way, but long overdue after a very dry spring, though many
00:07this afternoon aren't going to see much rain at all.
00:10It's going to be largely dry for many areas, lots of sunshine around once any low cloud
00:14has burnt its way back towards coastal areas, wall-to-wall blue skies for most, though there
00:19is the risk of showers, particularly across southern Scotland, northern parts of England,
00:23the odd isolated shower across parts of south-west and parts of Wales, but the main shower risk
00:28is going to be across Northern Ireland, where the odd one or two could be rather heavy,
00:33we might even hear the odd rumble of thunder, but for most, as I say, it should be a largely
00:38dry afternoon, feeling a tad warmer than yesterday, highs reaching around 22 to 23 degrees Celsius.
00:46Through into the evening, some showers lingering on across Northern Ireland for a time, eventually
00:51easing away, then it's all eyes towards the south, thicker clouds pushing through here
00:55and eventually we'll start to see outbreaks of showery rain, particularly across parts
00:59of Wales and parts of the south-west, so a very different feel by the time we wake up
01:03Wednesday morning across many areas in the south, but across Northern Ireland, Scotland,
01:08northern parts of England, a dry night, plenty of clear skies, which means temperatures slipping
01:13away a little more here, and the return of low cloud just creeping into the very far north-west
01:18of Scotland, quite a breeze here too.
01:22Through the course of Wednesday, quite a different day on offer across parts of the south central
01:26areas too, more clouds, showery outbreaks of rain eventually easing into the afternoon
01:30as it pushes its way south, sunny spells across central areas, but once again, some showers
01:35bubbling up into the afternoon, still a chance we could see the odd heavy shower, but a much
01:40drier day on offer across Northern Ireland, still plenty of sunshine across Scotland, northern
01:45parts of England, feeling a little cooler across the south where that cloud lingers on, but
01:50still in the warm sunshine, it is going to feel pleasant, highs still reaching around
01:5421 to 22 degrees Celsius.
01:57Now for the rest of the week, we eventually say goodbye to the cloud and rain across the
02:01south, but notice a cold front sweeping its way southwards through Thursday, dragging in
02:06some cooler air, so we might see some quite chilly nights to finish off the week.
02:10Then it's all eyes to the west just for the beginning of the bank holiday weekend, low pressure
02:14starting to dominate, sweeping in some frontal systems, so more cloud and rain as we head
02:20through Saturday and Sunday, but for more details on that, don't forget you can subscribe
