00:00:41Evening, big day in the race for the European places
00:00:45and some emotional goodbyes on tonight's match of the day too.
00:00:48Danny Murphy and Martin Keogh are with us.
00:00:51Nottingham Forest were four points outside the top five
00:00:54and knew they had to win at West Ham to keep their hopes
00:00:56of Champions League football next season alive.
00:00:59Simon Brotherton was at the London Stadium.
00:01:03Only a win will do for Forest to take their top five challenge
00:01:06to the final day.
00:01:08A place in the Champions League may prove to be a prize
00:01:11too far at the end of an excellent season,
00:01:13but European football of some description is already assured.
00:01:17West Ham's win at Old Trafford last week was their first victory
00:01:20in the last nine games, so no surprise to see they're unchanged.
00:01:23Jared Bowen has scored in four of the last six matches.
00:01:26Vladimir Sofal and Aaron Cresswell make one final home appearance
00:01:30before being released in the summer.
00:01:32Murillo returns for Nottingham Forest
00:01:34after missing last week's draw with Leicester.
00:01:36Chris Wood scored his 20th league goal of the season in that game.
00:01:40Callum Hudson-Odoi is named on the bench as he returns from injury.
00:01:47Big, big game this one for Nottingham Forest,
00:01:50who have been excellent on the road this season.
00:01:52They've won nine away matches in the Premier League.
00:01:57Only the champions Liverpool have had greater success on the road
00:02:00with 11.
00:02:02Bit of space for Vladimir Sofal.
00:02:06Sofal's delivery, it's not a bad one,
00:02:08and the header brings an excellent save from Matt Sells.
00:02:12Thomas Socek so close to giving West Ham the lead
00:02:16in the second minute of the game.
00:02:18First attack of the afternoon, pinpoint cross,
00:02:21excellent header, very fine save.
00:02:25That's a decent delivery.
00:02:28De Lange, back out to Heiner,
00:02:31and another Nottingham Forest throw.
00:02:40Great distance on that throw, here could be an opportunity!
00:02:44Good save from Areola to deny Morgan Gibbs-White.
00:02:49Nottingham Forest's first sighting of goal,
00:02:52and Anderson-Atwell inside the penalty area.
00:02:57Big block made here by Areola.
00:02:59Well struck.
00:03:02Now the chance with Guido Rodriguez
00:03:05to find a little bit of space here for Sofal.
00:03:07Look, acres of it to run into.
00:03:09Jared Bowen near side.
00:03:12Socek is forward.
00:03:14Curtis into the middle.
00:03:16Breaks for Sofal, and the deflection!
00:03:20Saved by Sells.
00:03:22Well, that was nearly a special moment for Sofal.
00:03:26This is his last home match as a West Ham player,
00:03:29and he's never scored a goal for them.
00:03:33This is Curtis.
00:03:35Socek under pressure and relieved of the ball.
00:03:38De Lange.
00:03:39This could spell trouble for West Ham.
00:03:41Back into Chris Wood,
00:03:43who finds De Lange again.
00:03:47They will have a little look at this one
00:03:49as Elliot Anderson sends it back in towards the box.
00:03:53Well, the referee's initial decision
00:03:56has been backed up here by the video assistant referee.
00:03:59And the match will continue.
00:04:04Oh! Areola's given it away!
00:04:06It's a gift of a goal!
00:04:08A defensive howler.
00:04:11And an easy finish for Morgan Gibbs-White.
00:04:14Forest lead in a match they must win
00:04:17to keep their top five hopes alive.
00:04:21And as they take the lead,
00:04:22they remember their team-mate,
00:04:24Tsai O-Wan-Yi,
00:04:26as he recovers from injury.
00:04:29Dear, oh, dear.
00:04:30West Ham have made a bright start to the match,
00:04:32but it all unravelled in an instant here.
00:04:35Areola trying to find Rodriguez
00:04:39straight to the feet of Forest No. 10.
00:04:44And you can't give Morgan Gibbs-White a chance like that.
00:04:47West Ham United 0, Nottingham Forest 1.
00:04:51Milenkovic away to Anderson,
00:04:53who looks for Chris Wood,
00:04:55who's in behind the defence here.
00:04:57Tries to pick out Elanga,
00:04:59back out to Wood,
00:05:00and he's denied by Alphonso Areola,
00:05:02and now the flag finally goes up.
00:05:05Chris Wood made the run,
00:05:07and, well, that's a tight call
00:05:10with Thaddeo.
00:05:13Thaddeo then with the flick away.
00:05:16And Areola making the save.
00:05:24Still finely balanced at 1-0.
00:05:26Here comes Gibbs-White for Nottingham Forest,
00:05:29away towards Anthony Elanga.
00:05:31He'll keep it in.
00:05:33Up against Thaddeo.
00:05:36Free kick.
00:05:40Left arm across the stomach there,
00:05:44penalised by the referee.
00:05:46Free kick here for Nottingham Forest,
00:05:48in a good position.
00:05:52Whipped in! It's 2-0!
00:05:55Excellent delivery from Anthony Elanga.
00:05:58May have taken a slight deflection on the way through,
00:06:02but it is 2-0 Nottingham Forest,
00:06:05with half an hour to play.
00:06:10Elanga's delivery,
00:06:12and then maybe a deflection there.
00:06:15Milenkovic in the area,
00:06:17and it does come off Nikola Milenkovic.
00:06:20It is being checked in the VAR hub.
00:06:24The check for a possible offside.
00:06:28The automated system's not working, I think,
00:06:31so that is going to be an additional delay.
00:06:35Well, this is just not great at all.
00:06:37We're already up to not far short of five minutes
00:06:40waiting for this to be sorted out.
00:06:42At last, and finally, we do have a decision.
00:06:45It's 2-0 Nottingham Forest.
00:06:47Milenkovic was not offside.
00:06:49The ball came off him,
00:06:51and Nuno Espirito Santo's team have got a great chance
00:06:54of taking their campaign
00:06:57and attempt to make it into the Champions League
00:06:59all the way to the last Sunday of this season.
00:07:05Alvarez.
00:07:08Sofal.
00:07:11Scampering forward.
00:07:13Fulcrug in the middle.
00:07:15Still with Sofal, in towards Fulcrug.
00:07:18Here's Soler, the sub.
00:07:20Tees it up!
00:07:22Sells with the save.
00:07:24That's a bit better from West Ham,
00:07:27who need a goal
00:07:29to just give themselves a little bit of hope in this fixture
00:07:32that they might still get something from it.
00:07:38Soler.
00:07:40Into Bowen.
00:07:42Looking for an opening.
00:07:44Struck his own team-mate.
00:07:50Here comes Kilman then for West Ham.
00:07:56That catches delivery.
00:07:58Headed down...
00:08:00Into the back of the net from Jarrett Bowen!
00:08:04It's a wonderful strike.
00:08:08It's been a frustrating afternoon for the home crowd
00:08:11but they'll have enjoyed that moment.
00:08:16It's a really good finish
00:08:19as Jarrett Bowen
00:08:21scores for the fourth home league match in a row.
00:08:25Emphatic,
00:08:27brilliant technique
00:08:29and at 2-1
00:08:31a glimmer of hope for the Hammers.
00:08:35We're in the 100th minute of the game.
00:08:38Time's starting to run a little short for West Ham.
00:08:42Jarrett Bowen.
00:08:47Tangles with Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:08:51Again, good play from Williams
00:08:54up to Chris Wood
00:08:56who looks for the surging figure of Jota Silva.
00:08:59Trailed by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
00:09:03Jota Silva on the deflection.
00:09:06Could so easily have dipped underneath the crossbar there.
00:09:11Their Champions League dream is still alive.
00:09:14It could still happen
00:09:16for the two-time European champions Nottingham Forest.
00:09:19They could be back in the Champions League
00:09:21in a week's time, you never know.
00:09:24Kilman's up there.
00:09:26Ole Reiner gets it away as far as Lucas Paqueta.
00:09:30It's beyond Falkrug and West Ham have a corner.
00:09:33Surely this is it.
00:09:36On and on this game goes.
00:09:38West Ham with one chance to throw the lock
00:09:41at Nottingham Forest to rescue a point.
00:09:44Alphonso Arreola
00:09:48in the heart of the penalty area.
00:09:49That goes Falkrug!
00:09:50What a save by Sels.
00:09:52Drama to the last ear
00:09:54but finally Nottingham Forest see it through.
00:09:57It's finished.
00:09:58West Ham United 1, Nottingham Forest 2.
00:10:02What a big three points for your team today.
00:10:05How much of a relief was it to hear the final whistle
00:10:08finally at the end of that second half?
00:10:11It looked like it was never going to end.
00:10:12Yeah, there's a lot of stoppage in the game
00:10:15so it justified the long period of extra time.
00:10:19But anxious that the game was finished.
00:10:22We allowed a goal and everything was much, much difficult for them.
00:10:26It was about closing the goal, closing our goal.
00:10:29Mads did great again so we are happy.
00:10:31Credit to the players.
00:10:32They kept going, they kept going.
00:10:33They're pushing, pushing all the way.
00:10:35The effort was there, they gave everything.
00:10:37We just came a little bit short.
00:10:39Big three points after a tough period.
00:10:43We won the game.
00:10:45It's so important.
00:10:46After what happened to Thierry, we united everybody.
00:10:49Club, staff, players, coach, fans, everybody together.
00:10:55We did everything we can today to make Thierry happy
00:10:59and this win is sure for him.
00:11:01Now we have the last game at the city ground.
00:11:04We are in Europe after many years but we still believe in our dream.
00:11:10So we will do everything to make our fans happy.
00:11:14Well, they had a difficult afternoon last week, didn't they?
00:11:18Against Leicester and that two-all draw.
00:11:20But a sort of tactical tweak today really benefited them.
00:11:23Well, I love the way Nuno and his Forest team constantly tweak
00:11:26and change tactics depending on the opposition they've got.
00:11:29Today he went with a diamond in midfield.
00:11:31Gibbs White is a ten who we know loves that role.
00:11:33And he pushed the langer up alongside Wood,
00:11:36which he's done before, against the back three of West Ham
00:11:39and he loves running in behind and it caused West Ham
00:11:41all sorts of problems.
00:11:43There you see the diamond.
00:11:45West Ham didn't work it out at all early in the game.
00:11:47He langered high up and of course when you've got that option,
00:11:50what do you do?
00:11:51You look for it constantly.
00:11:52Good ball.
00:11:54Two forward players linking up.
00:11:56Snapshot from Wood.
00:11:57Good start to the game, putting West Ham on the back foot.
00:12:00Excuse me.
00:12:02Here again you see the diamond.
00:12:04Well drilled.
00:12:05Knowing when to press and when to drop off.
00:12:08Dominguez jumps out from that inside right position
00:12:11and they all follow.
00:12:12And you can see, look at the distances, how close they are.
00:12:15Waiting to win it back.
00:12:16Brilliant.
00:12:17Well coached.
00:12:18And then when they get here, a langer.
00:12:20This central area is much more dangerous.
00:12:22Thought Wood could have hit that.
00:12:24Gets it back to Elanga and West Ham snuff it out.
00:12:26But again, a little warning shot for them.
00:12:30When they transition out, when they get it back here,
00:12:32there's the diamond in place again.
00:12:33And Gibbs White keeps, he's so elusive.
00:12:35He picks up these wonderful positions in between the strikers.
00:12:38And I think here he could play Wood in, but he decides not to.
00:12:41Does a little flick to Elanga and again it peters out.
00:12:44But so much danger to this West Ham side early in the game.
00:12:49And what this does really is it gives them an extra amount
00:12:52in forward positions to press rather than when he plays
00:12:54one up top and two wide.
00:12:56Especially against the back three.
00:12:57Look, they're all locked in.
00:12:59It is a poor ball.
00:13:00Of course it is.
00:13:01But Gibbs White isn't there if he's not playing in that ten roll.
00:13:05Second half, more of the same.
00:13:06This was more resilient, more defensive Forrest.
00:13:09Protecting what they had, understandably.
00:13:11Dominguez filling in for Sangare, who switches off.
00:13:14Again, the advantage of that system because he's tucked in.
00:13:16He's closer to Sangare.
00:13:20Dominguez, to be fair, unsung hero today.
00:13:22The amount of work he gets through.
00:13:24And when they do win it back, Anderson, Morgan, Gibbs,
00:13:27they've all got this little bit of quality.
00:13:29They can play around corners and little triangles.
00:13:31Really impressive performance in a game that they had to win.
00:13:34It's a pressurized game.
00:13:36And when they do break through, West Ham were pushing late on.
00:13:39The performances of the back players have been noted all season.
00:13:41But that tackle from Williams there at the end,
00:13:44just a nice mix of everything in their game today.
00:13:47Just benefited them at both ends of the field, didn't it, really?
00:13:50It's a system they've played before, but they do mix it up a lot.
00:13:53And he seems to get it right more times than not,
00:13:56depending on the opposition he's playing.
00:13:58And today against that back three of West Ham,
00:14:00playing two up worked a treat.
00:14:02Speaking of getting it right,
00:14:04the second goal was rightly allowed to stand, in your opinion?
00:14:08I think so. It's just the time it took.
00:14:10Mark, it took forever.
00:14:12Semi-automated systems apparently don't work
00:14:15when there's a cluster of players all in tight area all at once.
00:14:18That's very helpful.
00:14:20But I think the naked eye tells us, though, that it's all OK.
00:14:23Milenkovic comes off his shoulder, actually,
00:14:26and Dominguez, I think he's OK there.
00:14:29He's not in the line of the goalkeeper.
00:14:31It's just a normal ball into the box.
00:14:33So he's not interfering. He's offside, but he's not impacting.
00:14:36Exactly that. So they eventually come to the right decision,
00:14:38but just took an age to do so.
00:14:40I think the word technical difficulty is apparently what we've been told,
00:14:43because it took over six minutes.
00:14:45Communication problem, which is the only reason
00:14:47it could have taken over six minutes.
00:14:49But what we always say, got to the right decision.
00:14:53Just wish they could get there a bit more quickly.
00:14:55I don't know what it feels like to you,
00:14:58but it feels like West Ham are in a very, very odd place at the moment.
00:15:03Do you know what they are and what they want to be?
00:15:06Well, there's certainly no magic wand.
00:15:08This manager's come in 17 points from 17 games,
00:15:11and normally his teams are so flexible in the way that they play.
00:15:14I just don't think the players are at the moment.
00:15:16They spent a lot of money in the summer.
00:15:18I think £126 million was spent.
00:15:20And they would have expected the sort of season that Forest have had.
00:15:23That's been the contrast, to see how well Forest have done this season.
00:15:26Only last year, what, were they fifth from bottom?
00:15:28They've really turned it around.
00:15:30West Ham spending that amount of money.
00:15:32It's a big summer for them.
00:15:33It's a big summer, and the start of next season will be huge, won't it,
00:15:36for Graham Potter, really?
00:15:38It will be. The recruitment's going to be huge.
00:15:40The one thing they've got to get in the team is some legs and athleticism,
00:15:43especially in the middle of the park,
00:15:44because if you don't have that, which they don't,
00:15:46you're in a world of trouble.
00:15:48Forest then moving a point behind the top five ahead of the late game,
00:15:52and this was second against third at the Emirates,
00:15:55where because of their respective goal differences,
00:15:57a point for Arsenal or a win for Newcastle
00:16:00would be enough to all but secure Champions League football next season.
00:16:03Commentary on this one from Mark Scott.
00:16:07Not just a big game, but one that's had a bit of edge to it recently as well,
00:16:12and Newcastle have certainly had the edge results-wise of late,
00:16:16winning all of the three previous meetings this season without conceding.
00:16:20The Gunners have never lost four times to the same opponent in a single campaign.
00:16:26The one Arsenal change from the spirited draw at Anfield
00:16:29sees Declan Rice, who missed that game with a hip injury,
00:16:32come in for the suspended Mikel Mourinho.
00:16:34Newcastle are without 23-goal Alexander Isak because of a groin injury,
00:16:39so Callum Wilson gets just his second league start of the season.
00:16:45Newcastle will go above Arsenal into second place with a win.
00:16:49They haven't finished above the Gunners since 1997,
00:16:53when they were Premier League runners-up under Kenny Dalglish.
00:16:59Raya's pass is straight to Tenali, this could be trouble for Arsenal.
00:17:08Wilson and Kima Rice!
00:17:11Raya to the rescue, making amends for his earlier error.
00:17:16Newcastle not done yet, though.
00:17:19Kivio in the way.
00:17:22Gordon lays it off.
00:17:24Bit of a fiasco inside that Arsenal penalty area, but they've got away with it.
00:17:29Absolute shocker this from David Raya to give it straight to Sandro Tenali.
00:17:34He quickly found Wilson and the ball found its way to Kima Rice.
00:17:38It's a decent block from Raya and a really good recovery as well.
00:17:43Lewis Kelly.
00:17:47Tross up.
00:17:49And still.
00:17:51Leandro Trosser!
00:17:54We've got a touch on its way through.
00:17:59Not far away from the opening goal for the Gunners.
00:18:04Saka gives the signal.
00:18:06And now look at the red shirts move.
00:18:08Oh, and it's saved by Pope!
00:18:11They nearly did the job from another dead ball situation.
00:18:15And it was Partey stealing in at the near post who got the flick goalwards.
00:18:20And from point-blank range, Pope just got himself in the way.
00:18:25Arsenal haven't won any of their last five games.
00:18:28They've never gone six without a win under Mikel Arteta.
00:18:34Barnes.
00:18:36Slicing through the Arsenal midfield and going for goal!
00:18:40And Raya gets a big hand to it to prevent it going into the goal.
00:18:44This is far too easy for Harvey Barnes here.
00:18:47It got a touch on its way through, which makes it a really good stop from Raya.
00:18:54Newcastle now with their first corner of the game.
00:18:57Which is worked short to Tenali.
00:19:01That was a useful delivery which Keebure has to send behind for another Newcastle corner.
00:19:10Tossed in by Tenali.
00:19:11Free header! Raya with the save!
00:19:13Not once, but twice!
00:19:16Couple of cracking stops here from Raya.
00:19:19The instinctive reaction to get down with his hand.
00:19:22And then likewise to block with his feet on the follow-up.
00:19:30Even though he's been out for three months,
00:19:33Kai Havertz is still Arsenal's top scorer in the league this season.
00:19:37Back on the bench for the first time since suffering that injury in February.
00:19:43Erdegaard.
00:19:46It's a bit sloppy from him.
00:19:47Keemer-Reiss intercepts.
00:19:49Anthony Gordon for Newcastle.
00:19:52He's given that to Saka.
00:19:54He's offloaded to Erdegaard.
00:19:57And here's Reiss!
00:19:58Oh, yes!
00:20:01It's another banger at the Emirates from Declan Reiss.
00:20:05Memorable goals in the Champions League against Real Madrid here.
00:20:11And one that could secure Champions League football next season for Arsenal today.
00:20:18All came about after Gordon gave the ball away here.
00:20:21Saka slipped it into Erdegaard.
00:20:23He had the vision to spot Declan Reiss.
00:20:26Only one thing on his mind, the first-time sweep.
00:20:29And he caught it oh so sweetly.
00:20:31Little hope for Pope with that.
00:20:34And Arsenal, who have been much better since half-time,
00:20:38have the opening goal.
00:20:41First goal that Arsenal have managed to score in their four meetings with Newcastle this season.
00:20:47And it's a special one from Declan Reiss.
00:20:52Martinelli packing into his man.
00:20:54And then there's a bit of a tangle between him and Emil Kraft, who's just come on.
00:21:00But Arsenal insistent that that merits more than a yellow card.
00:21:04Simon Hooper quick to point out his reasons for deciding it's not a clear goal scoring opportunity.
00:21:11Confirmation from Michael Salisbury that he feels that's the right call as well.
00:21:19He begs to differ of course.
00:21:23Ben White.
00:21:25He's gone for it!
00:21:27And wasn't far away.
00:21:30Surging forwards and striking cleanly.
00:21:36They've won eight of their last ten in League and Cup Newcastle,
00:21:40so not a familiar feeling for Eddie Howe and co. to be trailing.
00:21:46Guimaraes finding Osula.
00:21:48Back here for Guimaraes.
00:21:50And over the top it goes from Harvey Barnes.
00:21:54Just opened up there for Newcastle.
00:21:56And White was there oh-so-quickly to hurry Harvey Barnes into the effort.
00:22:03Lukaku Saka will depart here then.
00:22:07And it's the return of Kai Havertz after three months out injured.
00:22:13And a great reception for the German as he makes his return to Gunners action.
00:22:19Former Arsenal man Joe Willett has come on for Newcastle.
00:22:23Harvey Barnes who just had that chance is taken off.
00:22:32There's going to be a yellow card here for Mikel Arteta.
00:22:37And that means that he will serve a touchline ban in their final game of the season against Southampton.
00:22:43Thanks for kicking the ball onto the pitch.
00:22:52Livramento, Willock.
00:22:57Livramento again.
00:23:00Willock.
00:23:02Room to work with and Willock.
00:23:05Willock.
00:23:07Willock.
00:23:09Willock.
00:23:11Room to work with and Willock's still going.
00:23:16Well his reaction suggests that that was a big chance for Newcastle to get themselves level.
00:23:22All his own work really, twisting and turning beyond White.
00:23:27But then the final effort skewed wide much to his and the travelling fans' disappointment.
00:23:33Will Newcastle get one last chance?
00:23:3530 seconds of stoppage time remain.
00:23:38Jorginho doesn't get the free kick.
00:23:41Arsenal fume, Gordon crosses, Raya comes and spills!
00:23:47Cleared by Lewis Skelly.
00:23:50The minimum of five added minutes are up.
00:23:54Martinelli.
00:23:56He's lost out to Burn.
00:24:05Willock.
00:24:10Willock again.
00:24:12Corner kick.
00:24:14Newcastle still have time.
00:24:16Pope comes up.
00:24:26Pope was up there, Raya gathers and that will surely be that.
00:24:31And now there's a bit of a coming together inside the area.
00:24:37There's been a bit of needling games between the sides in recent meetings and just started to see tempers fray here.
00:24:47Well, there is the full-time whistle.
00:24:50And Arsenal secure their place in the Champions League next season.
00:24:56Newcastle still have work to do on the final day to join them.
00:25:02Arsenal 1, Newcastle United 0.
00:25:07I know you wanted a trophy this season, but you've got Champions League football guaranteed now.
00:25:11Can you take some of that away?
00:25:12I know you wanted a trophy this season, but you've got Champions League football guaranteed now.
00:25:15Can you take some of that away?
00:25:17Yeah, well, we had a clear dream. It was to deliver a big trophy this season to our people.
00:25:22Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do it, understanding the circumstances that we've been through.
00:25:28Every single day dealing with all the problems that we have throughout the season.
00:25:31It's been like that for 10 months, not for two weeks.
00:25:34And normally what happens, especially when the expectations are so high, is you just collapse.
00:25:39And this team hasn't collapsed because it's so ingrained, the way they compete, their mindset and how much they want it.
00:25:45Yeah, we're unsatisfied because we want much more.
00:25:47Obviously, you'll be disappointed with the result today, but when you look at the Champions League situation, it's still in your hands.
00:25:53Yeah, I'm hearing everyone say that at the moment.
00:25:56It's obviously to-ing and fro-ing and it's a great race for everyone to watch.
00:26:00We have to do our job now against Everton.
00:26:02We have to be very focused on that game and prepare as well as we can.
00:26:07An important win and well-deserved overall?
00:26:10I don't know whether it was well-deserved.
00:26:13Probably a game of two halves, to be honest.
00:26:15We started the second half really well.
00:26:16They started the first half really well and they missed some big chances.
00:26:19Obviously, we took ours and in the end we defended really well.
00:26:22So, it was probably an evenly matched game.
00:26:24But the most important thing was the three points.
00:26:26That was all I cared about today and we got it.
00:26:28So, that's the main thing.
00:26:29Well, he said it there, didn't he, Martin Dekkerijs?
00:26:32It was a game of two halves.
00:26:33They were lacklustre in the first half and they're much better in the second.
00:26:36Very much so.
00:26:37I think Mikel Arteta, who's the driving force, I think he deserves a lot of credit
00:26:41because that would have been a big team talk.
00:26:43Two-nil down at Anfield last week and probably should have been two-nil down
00:26:47at the start of this game.
00:26:48I thought Newcastle started the game incredibly well.
00:26:50But they matched their intensity at the start of the second half
00:26:54and they needed to because they were second best, really, in that first half.
00:26:59Saka, you see here, an early sign that the manager had been in their ear
00:27:03and they need to step it up.
00:27:04This is a change, actually.
00:27:05Martinelli switched with Trossard.
00:27:07He went down the middle of the second half.
00:27:08Rice a bit further forward.
00:27:10Three at the back was, I think, better and we saw a lot more of Lewis Skelly
00:27:13who has been a revelation this season.
00:27:15Driving from midfield, a real talent that he is.
00:27:19And this structure seemed to...
00:27:21It got the crowd going, it lifted everybody
00:27:24and it was very much a different second half.
00:27:26Again, pressing higher.
00:27:28Martinelli, Rice, who was pretty well ever.
00:27:30I mean, he typified the way that he performed today.
00:27:34I mean, the goal he scores is absolutely outstanding,
00:27:37as you're going to see shortly.
00:27:38But getting bodies around the Newcastle players.
00:27:41We were bullying Arsenal a little bit, bossing them.
00:27:43They've lost three times to Newcastle and they needed to recover.
00:27:47Just look at this man here, how he develops, how he's game now.
00:27:50I mean, he's whipped that in Beckham-like.
00:27:52And then again, look, here he's everywhere for Arsenal.
00:27:55Second half, he was absolutely magnificent.
00:27:58I think there was a bit of fatigue amongst the players.
00:28:00I don't mean they're feeling sorry for themselves.
00:28:02This is them going from back to front now, in a flash.
00:28:05Really, a real zest to their play.
00:28:08Moving the ball quickly.
00:28:10Saka there just not getting enough power from the shot.
00:28:12And then look at this, look.
00:28:13This says, if you badly want the ball enough,
00:28:16doesn't matter how big you are, six foot six,
00:28:18look at that for a leap.
00:28:20And that's about desire.
00:28:22And this man has put that there.
00:28:24And it's kind of like we've got our Arsenal back again.
00:28:27But they're not winning trophies, but they're on the way.
00:28:30They're putting a foot on the ladder.
00:28:31It's about recovering from this,
00:28:33because it's going to be a long pathway for them.
00:28:35Come back to that in just a moment.
00:28:37But as Martin said, they could have been two down in this game
00:28:40if it wasn't for their goalkeeper.
00:28:41Yeah, exactly.
00:28:42It's worth giving him a mention, David Ryer,
00:28:44because he is a brilliant goalkeeper.
00:28:46And early in the game, they needed him a couple of times.
00:28:49He's kept the most clean sheets this season.
00:28:52He's so reliable, normally brilliant with his feet.
00:28:54That's a little mistake.
00:28:55But boy, does he make up for it here with his double save.
00:28:58Absolutely outstanding.
00:29:00I think we talk a lot about Arsenal in glowing terms,
00:29:03but I'm not sure he gets the recognition at times.
00:29:06Another decent save.
00:29:07And this is the best one, another double save.
00:29:09He's brilliant.
00:29:10He seems to be one of the best at double saves.
00:29:12He's so agile and quick to react after making a first save.
00:29:15Which is why I want to show this one again.
00:29:17Look, he's down.
00:29:18I know they practice this a lot, but...
00:29:20He is great at double saves, though, isn't he?
00:29:22He is.
00:29:23He is great at double saves.
00:29:24He's a calming influence.
00:29:25Very quick, busy goalkeeper around, isn't he?
00:29:27He is.
00:29:28When I talk about Arsenal needing signings, I get it.
00:29:30But they certainly don't need a new goalkeeper.
00:29:32Well, let's look a bit to the future, then, with Arsenal.
00:29:35So, their third, second-place finish on the trot.
00:29:39You have been in exactly that same situation.
00:29:41I've been in that position.
00:29:42And I think it's one of those that the manager talks about
00:29:45using it as energy.
00:29:46And it takes a special group to keep coming second
00:29:49and bounce back and go on and win something.
00:29:51And we had a guy came into the dressing room,
00:29:53psychologist came in and said,
00:29:55statistically, you guys are second best.
00:29:57People were throwing things at him.
00:29:59But actually, we needed to show there's more under the bonnet.
00:30:02And this Arsenal team...
00:30:03Did that work?
00:30:04So, that worked?
00:30:05Well, it did.
00:30:06We want to double that in the very next season.
00:30:08But it's kind of like the group is saying,
00:30:10you're building leaders here.
00:30:12We're not going to take this anymore.
00:30:14We're going to find a way to win.
00:30:15And I sense it with the manager.
00:30:16And I see it with Declan.
00:30:17I see it with others.
00:30:18And it has to start fostering now.
00:30:20It starts to grow.
00:30:21Yeah, I think recruitment is going to be key.
00:30:23They need a couple.
00:30:24Just to add to that firepower.
00:30:26Because, you know, you can't...
00:30:27Well, Josh Cronkite put in the programme today,
00:30:30and there's a column on the Arsenal website as well,
00:30:32that he has written,
00:30:33Josh Cronkite, part of the owners,
00:30:34we plan to invest.
00:30:36Yeah, but everyone else is going to as well.
00:30:38So, it's how well you invest
00:30:39and which one hits the ground running more quickly.
00:30:42Arsenal are in a good position.
00:30:44I know people get obsessed by trophies.
00:30:46And I understand it, that thirst and desire for silverware.
00:30:49But the progression they've made
00:30:51in terms of how competitive they are
00:30:53and how well-rounded and balanced they are,
00:30:54they had some horrendous injuries early in the season,
00:30:56hence the points differential.
00:30:58But overall, he's done a good job.
00:31:00He's done a good job.
00:31:01I'm happy to support them,
00:31:02but they've got to go and win a trophy.
00:31:03But I'm seeing all the signs.
00:31:04They're close.
00:31:05That it's there.
00:31:06They're close.
00:31:07When they buy this summer,
00:31:08obviously the striking position
00:31:09is the one that everybody focuses on.
00:31:11But they could do with, what,
00:31:13other options in other areas as well?
00:31:15They're likely Zubermande, aren't they?
00:31:17Which would then change that midfield dynamic a little bit.
00:31:19I get it, Partey yet not to sign.
00:31:21Maybe Martinelli needs some help in wide positions.
00:31:24And then you've got all the players coming back.
00:31:26I mean, look at the way they've raced back to fitness.
00:31:28But the manager's really been using a thin squad.
00:31:30There's not many players he's turned to.
00:31:32Calafiore comes in today,
00:31:33but he was out for a number of weeks
00:31:34and he's straight into the team.
00:31:35So I think he needs to strengthen that squad.
00:31:38We've done the last four Sundays together, haven't we?
00:31:40Shall we get our favourite graphic up?
00:31:43Yes, let's do it.
00:31:45It's easier now.
00:31:46No, tweaked it slightly.
00:31:47I'd rather do it horizontally.
00:31:49I've done it in a table form for you.
00:31:51I mean, you would expect,
00:31:53I don't need Optus percentage there,
00:31:55but you would expect Newcastle to be fine, wouldn't you?
00:31:59Yes, at home to whoever, and I would say so,
00:32:01with those fans behind them.
00:32:03Man City got it all in their own hands with that extra game.
00:32:06Bournemouth and Fulham, not easy games,
00:32:08but I'd tip them as well.
00:32:10Tough week, though, for Man City, isn't it?
00:32:12On the back of the cup final.
00:32:13Yes, they're going to have to pull themselves up.
00:32:15You were talking before about bouncing back.
00:32:17This City squad's got resilience, they've got experience in it.
00:32:20I expect them to get...
00:32:21And that Chelsea-Forest game next week,
00:32:23it's the pick of the bunch, isn't it?
00:32:25That's going to be a hell of an atmosphere down there.
00:32:27And either one of them...
00:32:28Still might not be enough for Forest.
00:32:30It might not be, but give themselves a chance.
00:32:32But, yeah, to a certain extent,
00:32:35it's in their hands as regards them and Chelsea.
00:32:37I know there are other things elsewhere,
00:32:39but all they can do is go into that knowing that it's in their hands.
00:32:42They've been magnificent this year, Forest, haven't they?
00:32:44Breath of fresh air to see how they've performed.
00:32:46It's looking tough for them right now.
00:32:48They just had a little blip just at the wrong time.
00:32:50But they can't have any regrets to the way they've played this season.
00:32:54But I think Man City will have enough to get there and so will Villa as well.
00:32:58They are two horrible games, aren't they?
00:33:00Off the back of a cup final defeat for them.
00:33:02It is, but, I mean, if you look around the dressing room
00:33:05and you look at the manager,
00:33:06I mean, they're just the best in their class, aren't they?
00:33:09If they don't have the resilience and fortitude
00:33:12to get through those games, then there is a real question mark.
00:33:15They should beat Bournemouth and Fulham nine out of ten times
00:33:18when they need to.
00:33:19OK.
00:33:20Now, it's complicated a little bit lower down,
00:33:22but the European places could still extend to eighth place.
00:33:26Brentford occupy that spot ahead of their meeting
00:33:29with Fulham and James Fielden.
00:33:30Watch this one.
00:33:35Two West London rivals vying for eighth place,
00:33:38but it's their other neighbours, Chelsea,
00:33:40that hold the keys to their European qualification
00:33:42after Crystal Palace won the FA Cup yesterday.
00:33:45Today, a win for both is a must.
00:33:47Brentford boss, Thomas Frank,
00:33:49says it's their biggest game since promotion
00:33:51and, as such, his team is unchanged
00:33:53in the fourth successive game
00:33:54as they search for a fifth straight win.
00:33:56Ben Mee is leaving in the summer after three years at the club
00:33:59and he could make his final home appearance from the bench.
00:34:02Fulham welcome back Anthony Robinson
00:34:04and Sasha Lukic from injury,
00:34:06while Adama Traore also starts.
00:34:08Harry Wilson scored twice in added time
00:34:10to win the reverse fixture,
00:34:11but he makes way along with Sessegnon and Andres Pereira.
00:34:17For either of these teams to qualify for Europe,
00:34:19Chelsea have to win the Conference League
00:34:21and finish seventh.
00:34:22The Blues could also finish sixth,
00:34:23but it would require Newcastle to finish behind them.
00:34:26Fulham have to win here
00:34:27or their chances are extinguished before the final day.
00:34:31Jimenez.
00:34:33Great experience play there by the Mexican.
00:34:37He comes back and here's Damsgaard.
00:34:39Johan Wisse, his first chance!
00:34:41Blocked by the goalkeeper, Leno.
00:34:44And Salah comes in with Damsgaard.
00:34:46Not this time by Anderson.
00:34:51Johan Wisse in red-hot form right now,
00:34:53he's scored four times in his last five games.
00:34:56He's timed his run really well,
00:34:58just couldn't quite lift it over the goalkeeper.
00:35:01Damsgaard couldn't put it to either side.
00:35:04Tete.
00:35:06Traore.
00:35:09Another one-on-one battle here with Luis Potter.
00:35:14Just coming towards Jimenez!
00:35:16And he's squeezed in!
00:35:20Two-in-two for the Mexican,
00:35:22as Fulham hit the front.
00:35:26Raul Jimenez's 12th Premier League goal of the season.
00:35:29Maybe Fulham's bid for European football has something left in it.
00:35:35Traore did his bit.
00:35:36Jimenez just had to make the powerful contact on it,
00:35:39and it was too much for Flecken.
00:35:42He's made more saves than any other goalkeeper
00:35:44in the top five leagues this season,
00:35:46but he couldn't prevent that one.
00:35:51Traore.
00:35:53Traore.
00:35:58Over the way there, Wisse.
00:36:00And Beno, looking for the equaliser!
00:36:02And he's got it!
00:36:07Brian and Beno for Brentford.
00:36:11That is 19th Premier League goal this season.
00:36:14Adamo Traore, who helped create the opening goal,
00:36:17giving the ball away to let Brentford in there.
00:36:19And it was so simple after that.
00:36:21Beno just peeling away, shifting it and slotting it.
00:36:26Brentford's on terms, they were only behind for six minutes.
00:36:30And it's one of their staff from three that does it again.
00:36:40Dugas had it.
00:36:42Jimenez loses it.
00:36:43Paid for by Jamuyuk, and it's Xhada in this time!
00:36:46He was pulled back inside the area there,
00:36:48but play went on, and now it's a penalty!
00:36:54Jared Giller gave himself some thinking time.
00:36:57And in the blink of an eye,
00:36:58Brentford could be set to go from 1-0 down to 2-1 up.
00:37:02Hansen pulled him down there, Xhada's about to shoot.
00:37:06Marco Silva is absolutely furious.
00:37:09Fourth official, Farai Halam, as well as security,
00:37:12trying to hold him back here.
00:37:15This is the sixth penalty that Brentford have won this season.
00:37:17Which is more than any other Premier League side.
00:37:20And Mbembe is 11 from 11 for the spot for Brentford.
00:37:24But he can't score a 12!
00:37:26And the rebound can't be touched home either.
00:37:29It's a great save by Ben Reno.
00:37:34Brentford normally so cool from the spot,
00:37:36no matter who's taking the penalties.
00:37:39Mbembe there perhaps a little bit too relaxed.
00:37:43Clawed away by the German.
00:37:44And it remains 1-1.
00:37:52It's a bit scrappy here at the moment,
00:37:53as we edge towards the break.
00:37:55And here's the Dama Traore.
00:37:59Jimenez and Iwobi making their way into the middle.
00:38:02It's towards Jimenez again!
00:38:05Unable to score this time, but it's the same combination
00:38:08that provided Fulham with the opening goal.
00:38:14Michael Silva not a man to be crossed when he's in a bad mood.
00:38:20Nogar, Damsgaard, Sharder.
00:38:25Only Whistler in the box, but fastly going in full count there.
00:38:31Compromising challenge from the Nigeria international.
00:38:35Brentford have scored more headed goals in the Premier League
00:38:37than anybody else this season.
00:38:39Could be another one here.
00:38:40On by Vandenberg and Nogar!
00:38:42It's in!
00:38:45It's Whistler's fifth goal in his last six games.
00:38:49He is loving life at Brentford right now.
00:38:55The non-throw, dispatched so long.
00:38:58On by Vandenberg, Nogar coming from an onside position.
00:39:02He might just have been over the line before Whistler got there.
00:39:05Brentford have come from one down to lead by two goals to one.
00:39:09He will not score an easier goal in his career.
00:39:15Kick-off for the second half here at the GTEC delayed for now
00:39:17because a drone is flying over the stadium.
00:39:21A couple of minutes of delay at the start of the second half.
00:39:24Bassett.
00:39:26Lukic.
00:39:29Wilson.
00:39:31He's going to take aim there, he still might.
00:39:33Just behind him was Jimenez trying to return.
00:39:36Tete.
00:39:37Deflected into Kearney!
00:39:39It's 2-2!
00:39:41Substitute Tom Kearney has done it!
00:39:45And that Fulham away end is going wild!
00:39:50That might be a massive goal to keep Fulham's season alive.
00:39:56They simply love Tom Kearney.
00:40:01There was some luck with that deflected cross there but he rose so high.
00:40:05He managed to generate the power.
00:40:08His first goal since December.
00:40:10It's a tall things level at 2-2.
00:40:13Once again another goal filled game at the GTEC.
00:40:17Fulham looking like a different side.
00:40:20Traore.
00:40:25He's moving at pace.
00:40:27That's our Fulham as a collective.
00:40:29Wilson.
00:40:31Harry Wilson.
00:40:32He's going for it!
00:40:33Oh he scores!
00:40:36What a season against Brentford!
00:40:38What a season against Brentford this man is having!
00:40:42Twice he netted in added time to win the game for the Cottagers back in November.
00:40:48And twice now Fulham have scored in a matter of minutes.
00:40:52He scored twice away at Brentford while wearing the colours of Derby County.
00:40:55That was at Griffin Park.
00:40:57Here at the GTEC.
00:40:58He's just scored one of Fulham's goals of the season.
00:41:02Nine on 30 yards from goal.
00:41:04As he opened up and bent it beautifully.
00:41:07Flecken didn't even move.
00:41:10Fulham lead by three goals for two.
00:41:14Damsgaard.
00:41:17As he gets a toe on it.
00:41:19Norgaard.
00:41:20Irkzaar shoots.
00:41:22And Bermode.
00:41:27That's a great ball into Wisse who goes down.
00:41:30Schärder!
00:41:31Blocked by Cetic.
00:41:33Oh the Brentford fans screaming at the referee.
00:41:36And he should be pointing to the spot for them again here.
00:41:39This is being checked by the VAR John Brooks.
00:41:42Was there a push there on Wisse?
00:41:46Well Tete certainly made contact with him but was it significant contact?
00:41:50The VAR says there is no case to answer.
00:41:59Norgaard.
00:42:00A killing up in the middle.
00:42:02But it was a Fulham head that met the cross.
00:42:04Henry.
00:42:07Jensen.
00:42:09What a swing at that right boot.
00:42:10And Norgaard.
00:42:11What a save by Leno.
00:42:14Stunning reflexes there from the Fulham goalkeeper.
00:42:17And not for the first time today.
00:42:19Norgaard who was scoring previous with his head.
00:42:22Surely thought he was going to find the net there as well.
00:42:26For the second time this season.
00:42:29Harry Wilson comes off the bench to win the derby for Fulham.
00:42:32And with that goal surely gives the colleges a chance on the final day of making the top eight.
00:42:38Brentford had this game in their grasp.
00:42:41But tossed it away midway through the second half.
00:42:44And really troubled Fulham after that.
00:42:47They have to go to Wolves and win and hope.
00:42:50Full time at the GTEC.
00:42:52Brentford 2 Fulham 3.
00:42:54Harry congratulations.
00:42:55Derby hero again.
00:42:56How does this one feel?
00:42:58Yeah amazing feeling again.
00:43:00I thought it was an amazing game.
00:43:02Chances at both ends.
00:43:04I think both keepers made some great saves throughout the game.
00:43:07But to come out on top and be the one who scored the winner.
00:43:10Incredible feeling.
00:43:12Just heard you speaking to the fans outside.
00:43:14Is the message looking at perspective and context of what the season has been like overall?
00:43:18Even if you've lost this derby here today.
00:43:20Yeah definitely.
00:43:21It's difficult because you're so invested in it.
00:43:25To stand there and smile and be happy because inside you're burning.
00:43:29Because I hate losing.
00:43:31But I agree I think it's very important to put it into perspective.
00:43:34I think so far we can still finish 8th.
00:43:37Which will be the highest position ever in the Premier League.
00:43:40Now two players and 19 goals.
00:43:42There's so many positives.
00:43:44And we have everything to play for into the last round.
00:43:47I don't know if you know that you scored the last time that Fulham won at Brentford in 2016.
00:43:51That just kind of sums up how long you've had at this club and what a journey it's been for you.
00:43:55I remember that.
00:43:56That was one of my favourite goals actually in a Fulham shirt.
00:43:59That was another one of my favourite goals.
00:44:01I don't score many headers.
00:44:03I think my eyes might have been shut.
00:44:05But yeah I was like prime Duncan Ferguson.
00:44:07You're still in the mix for that chance of Europe.
00:44:09We are there.
00:44:11This afternoon we broke the tally points record from this football club for the first time ever.
00:44:15And in the future they are going to talk really about this season and these football players.
00:44:20Because we achieved it.
00:44:22Something that Fulham never achieved before.
00:44:24And now more three points to fight for.
00:44:26We want to finish as high as we can on the table.
00:44:28And the last game at home is very important for us to finish on a high with our fans.
00:44:33We have been showing some great moments of football.
00:44:35Let's hope we can do it again next Sunday against City.
00:44:38It feels like two things have been guaranteed this season and we saw them today.
00:44:42Which is one, lots of goals at Brentford.
00:44:44And two, Fulham substitutes making a difference.
00:44:47Yeah, wonderful game.
00:44:49Marco Silva has got this special unity with his substitutes.
00:44:52They knew before they started the game that if we come off the bench and we score goals
00:44:55we can set a record today.
00:44:57And it can be difficult sitting on the bench.
00:45:00But the difference they made when they came on.
00:45:03Tom Cairney coming on at half time.
00:45:05And then Wilson.
00:45:07And then young Josh King.
00:45:09Really made a difference.
00:45:11They have got their shape here.
00:45:13Two full backs really high.
00:45:1530 yards from the halfway line.
00:45:17All condensed in.
00:45:19Suddenly they have got Wilson now playing a little bit deeper.
00:45:21But wanting to make things happen.
00:45:23Getting bodies into the final third.
00:45:25And look at this.
00:45:27Great header.
00:45:29But you have this feeling that they have done it before.
00:45:31They come off the bench.
00:45:33Look, King makes a really good run.
00:45:35Intelligent 18 year old youngster.
00:45:37Starlet of the future.
00:45:39And then this man comes on the ball.
00:45:41He has got no right to hit that from there.
00:45:43But he wants to score.
00:45:45He is hungry to score.
00:45:47He can set figures by the manager.
00:45:49And he feels that when he comes on he can score goals.
00:45:51He has done it before.
00:45:53He has done it again in the previous game of the season.
00:45:55So you are going to have an impact.
00:45:57Exactly that.
00:45:59And you sit there and you are made to feel a part of it.
00:46:01You travel up and down the country.
00:46:03Nobody wants to be a substitute.
00:46:05It only happened to me at the end of my career.
00:46:07You want to play Danny, don't you?
00:46:09But if they are made to feel like that.
00:46:11They are special as well.
00:46:13They get their moment in the sun.
00:46:15And they grab the headlines.
00:46:17And that is what they have done again today.
00:46:19And what they have also done is broken Fulham's Premier League points record.
00:46:21Yes, it is an amazing achievement.
00:46:23Although I feel a tinge of sadness.
00:46:25Like it was just you.
00:46:27No, it is a remarkable season for them.
00:46:29Very little wrong from Marco Silva.
00:46:33And the choices he has made.
00:46:35The teams he has chosen.
00:46:37The times he has mixed it up.
00:46:39They play a nice variation in the football.
00:46:41They can fight and have a battle.
00:46:43So many options he has got as well.
00:46:45He has got good options.
00:46:47He has been backed.
00:46:49They have got some good squad now.
00:46:51But they play good stuff as well.
00:46:53The fans enjoy it.
00:46:55It is daft to say.
00:46:57Because every club will feel like they have a big summer.
00:46:59But they are another one that it feels like they have got a big summer.
00:47:01In some respects.
00:47:03In making sure they keep hold of him.
00:47:05Yes, in terms of the manager.
00:47:07The squad is quite healthy.
00:47:09Both managers by the way.
00:47:11Yes, both managers.
00:47:13Thomas Frank, the way his team played today in BOMO.
00:47:15He missed a penalty by the way.
00:47:17The only thing I would say about Marco Silva.
00:47:19It would have to be a fantastic opportunity for him.
00:47:21Because it is a good club.
00:47:23And it is a wonderful location where people want to be.
00:47:25It is a good location for the Champions League places.
00:47:27Let's just show you.
00:47:29How 8th could qualify for European football.
00:47:33A couple of permutations there.
00:47:35So Chelsea finishing 6th.
00:47:37Win the Conference League and Newcastle finish 7th.
00:47:40Or Chelsea finish 7th and win the Conference League.
00:47:44So they are the two ways in which 8th can qualify.
00:47:48We are all a lot clearer now.
00:47:50That is what I am here for.
00:47:52Make life easier.
00:47:54Next to the final game for Everton's men at Goodison Park.
00:47:57The club's home for 133 years.
00:48:04Let's get straight on with the match that really matters.
00:48:07And that would be the game at Goodison Park.
00:48:10This is the entrance to Goodison Park, Liverpool.
00:48:13Home of Everton Football Club.
00:48:15Everton expect success from a very good crowd.
00:48:18A crowd who are very loyal.
00:48:20They know what it means to play at Goodison.
00:48:21And they hope that we can give them something to show.
00:48:51What shakes to its very foundations.
00:49:02Your commentator is Steve Wills.
00:49:07The sights and the sounds of this grand old Goodison Park.
00:49:11If Everton's new home is stunning, their old is unique.
00:49:15And if you know your history, you know about Royal,
00:49:18Reid, Radcliffe and Rooney.
00:49:20Dixie Dean and Brian LeBowne.
00:49:22Sheedy and Sharp.
00:49:24Latchford, Ferguson.
00:49:26Stephens, Stephens and Southall.
00:49:28And of course their Holy Trinity.
00:49:30Kendall, Ball and Harvey.
00:49:32And so for the 2791st time here, bring on the Blues.
00:49:48David Moyes makes four changes to decide which one at Fulham.
00:49:52O'Brien, McNeill and Dye come in.
00:49:55As does 36-year-old Seamus Coleman.
00:49:58For a first Goodison start since August.
00:50:01Southampton's miserable campaign is almost consigned to history.
00:50:05There'll be no tear shed for that.
00:50:07Two changes for them.
00:50:09Wood and a rebow for Bednarek and Ugo Chukwu.
00:50:17The Blues.
00:50:23Everton's joint biggest ever win at this stadium was against Southampton.
00:50:28Back in 1971, they beat the Saints 8-0 here.
00:50:35That's a corner.
00:50:40No more popular player in Everton's starting line-up than Seamus Coleman,
00:50:44who wins this corner.
00:50:45And Dwight McNeill
00:50:47will go and take it.
00:50:52McNeill's delivery
00:50:54headed away pretty well by Wood.
00:50:56It's fired back in. It's a chance.
00:50:58It's a good save by Ramsdale.
00:51:00Beto denied.
00:51:02Good save there.
00:51:04It's headed away by Nathan Wood.
00:51:06Drilled back in by Mikulenko.
00:51:08Fell to Beto.
00:51:10Denied by Aaron Ramsdale.
00:51:13Wayne Rooney.
00:51:15With Graeme Sharp in front of him.
00:51:18Joe Royal there, one of the great Everton No. 90,
00:51:21and Snowden alongside him.
00:51:23Joe Royal who, of course, managed Everton to their FA Cup victory in 1995.
00:51:28Ilimane N'Jai.
00:51:30Darting run!
00:51:31And 1-0 Everton!
00:51:35It's taken only five minutes!
00:51:41Ilimane N'Jai with an excellent goal.
00:51:46Just what the home fans demanded.
00:51:52Well, he did brilliantly here.
00:51:55Slightly fortuitous the way he came to him,
00:51:57but nothing lucky about the little turn, the attack.
00:52:01And the finish is perfect.
00:52:03Everton 1, Southampton 0.
00:52:07Glee in the Gladys Street.
00:52:10Bedlam in the Bullens Road.
00:52:12Pandemonium at the park end.
00:52:151-0 Everton.
00:52:23Coleman,
00:52:25I think, has a problem here.
00:52:30Jordan Pickford has put that out of play
00:52:33so that Seamus Coleman can go off.
00:52:36That's unfortunate.
00:52:39A standing ovation.
00:52:41A standing ovation
00:52:44for Seamus Coleman.
00:52:53His 430th Everton appearance has only lasted 17 minutes or so.
00:53:05Beautifully done.
00:53:07Idrissa Ganegei into Ilimane N'Jai.
00:53:09And on to Beto!
00:53:11And wide.
00:53:15Lovely little ball around the corner
00:53:18from Idrissa Ganegei into Ilimane N'Jai.
00:53:20Beto onside and he's made a bit of a mess of that.
00:53:28Flip from Suleymane didn't come off.
00:53:30Here's Ducore.
00:53:32Idrissa Ganegei into McNeil.
00:53:36Life hand into N'Jai.
00:53:38And it's 2-0.
00:53:44In stoppage time at the end of the first half,
00:53:48Ilimane N'Jai takes his tally for today to two.
00:53:58Taking advantage of some pretty rotten defending.
00:54:02He's definitely onside, isn't he?
00:54:04The yellow-shirted Southampton defenders
00:54:08seem to just fade away.
00:54:11Ilimane N'Jai
00:54:13around Aaron Ramsdale
00:54:16and 2-0.
00:54:22In time for Everton,
00:54:23Harwood-Bellis with a misjudged flick.
00:54:28Beto.
00:54:30Ducore wants it.
00:54:31Ducore gets it.
00:54:34And on to Ghana!
00:54:35And Ramsdale with the save.
00:54:38Not done yet here though, Everton.
00:54:39Ashley Young.
00:54:42Great header just over the top.
00:54:45Beto
00:54:47is just off the mark.
00:54:53That is a good header.
00:54:54Just too high.
00:54:58Stanley Park resplendent
00:55:02in the sunshine.
00:55:05Glorious goodness.
00:55:11Ramsdale away downfield.
00:55:16Idrissa Ghana gate for Young.
00:55:19That's an error.
00:55:20Ross Stewart, the substitute is there!
00:55:22And it's a really good save by Jordan Pickford.
00:55:25It's a very good stop that.
00:55:28Ross Stewart is yet to score for Southampton.
00:55:30This is an opportunity.
00:55:33Carelessly presented to him and well saved by Pickford.
00:55:37First thing he's had to do all day.
00:55:39England's goalkeeper.
00:55:42Abdoulaye Ducore,
00:55:43who is one of those out of contract at Goodison Park.
00:55:48To be replaced by Carlos Alvarez.
00:55:52And that looks like that's that
00:55:54for Abdoulaye Ducore in blue at Goodison.
00:55:58A tearful farewell.
00:56:03Flinders.
00:56:06Brie.
00:56:08Robinson.
00:56:14And today's attendance 39,000.
00:56:17Two hundred and one.
00:56:25The new stadium holds an excess of 53,000.
00:56:28Mathias Fernandes.
00:56:30Nicely done.
00:56:34It's Robinson for Southampton here.
00:56:36Can he squeeze across in?
00:56:37He can!
00:56:38And it's a really good save to deny Archer.
00:56:40And then put behind for a corner.
00:56:44First Pickford and then O'Brien have
00:56:46performed heroics here.
00:56:49Pickford's clean sheet intact.
00:56:51Really good play by Mathias Fernandes.
00:56:53And then by substitute Robinson,
00:56:55who did well to cut that back.
00:56:57It's a really good save from Jordan Pickford.
00:57:01Never one to miss the opportunity to
00:57:03play to the crowd and the camera.
00:57:07And the last few moments
00:57:09will be against the backdrop of
00:57:11nearly 40,000 Evertonians on their feet
00:57:14and singing their hearts out, as they have here.
00:57:18It's a really good save from Jordan Pickford.
00:57:21Singing their hearts out, as they have here
00:57:24for 133 years.
00:57:27Michael Oliver blows his whistle.
00:57:30Goodbye, old friend.
00:57:34That's it.
00:57:36After 133 years
00:57:40of Everton first team football
00:57:43at Goodison Park.
00:57:46A grand old stadium.
00:57:48A grand old team.
00:57:49With a great new arena waiting.
00:57:53The last game has finished Everton 2,
00:57:56Southampton 0.
00:58:02It was extraordinary, the atmosphere inside the stadium.
00:58:04I have to say the crowd was amazing.
00:58:06As it was outside, before the game,
00:58:08was something else.
00:58:11Look, we started the game pretty well.
00:58:13Got ourselves in front.
00:58:14Played some good bits.
00:58:15Not always.
00:58:16Second half wasn't so good.
00:58:18But the job was to win the game today.
00:58:20See ourselves out of Goodison in a good light.
00:58:23Clean sheet.
00:58:24Two goals today, so certainly no complaints.
00:58:26Difficult first half for us.
00:58:27We knew it was going to be an emotional game
00:58:29from their point of view.
00:58:30They were going to want to put us under pressure.
00:58:32And they've got quality and aggression within their team.
00:58:34So we didn't get to the level that
00:58:36we would have hoped in the first half.
00:58:38But I was really encouraged by the second half display.
00:58:40Ilemen, you're going to go down in history
00:58:42for scoring the last goal at Goodison Park
00:58:45for the men's team.
00:58:47What does that mean to you?
00:58:48It means a lot to me.
00:58:50Obviously, I came to this club,
00:58:52wanted to give everything for them.
00:58:54And they've done the same back with me
00:58:57since the minute I came in.
00:58:58And today was the day to give them
00:59:00everything they deserve.
00:59:02And, yeah, obviously I've got the two goals,
00:59:04which I couldn't ask for a better day.
00:59:06This club, the support here is immense.
00:59:08Today for them has been a day they've been waiting on
00:59:10for so long.
00:59:11Maybe 10, 15 years for a new stadium coming.
00:59:14And we're about to get it now.
00:59:16What does it mean to you to lead this club
00:59:19into a new era?
00:59:21Well, I never thought I was going to be the one
00:59:24who was doing it.
00:59:25I didn't think it was the case.
00:59:26But I'm really pleased.
00:59:28I'm honoured, I feel, to be given that opportunity
00:59:31to do so.
00:59:32I think we all see it as another chance.
00:59:35We need to start rebuilding ever again.
00:59:37Amazingly, we've come from 17 points to 45 at the moment
00:59:40with one game to go.
00:59:42So we have to try and build on that next year.
00:59:44If we can get the atmosphere in the new stadium
00:59:47like we had today, it will give us every chance
00:59:50of winning games.
00:59:51It was brilliant, it really was.
00:59:54Some day, wasn't it, Martyn?
00:59:56I mean, the fans were there from 8 o'clock this morning
00:59:59getting ready to welcome the coach and the legends
01:00:03coming back.
01:00:04They just did everything really well today, Everton.
01:00:07Some incredible players there from the past.
01:00:09It's a sad day but a great day because they now go
01:00:12to the new promised land, the new stadium,
01:00:15see all those great players.
01:00:17The nostalgia today, the fans, the great people to play.
01:00:21Merseyside are a hotbed of football.
01:00:23All your memories.
01:00:24My memories?
01:00:25Interesting.
01:00:26I ran out to play and I hadn't played at Goodison
01:00:29before I signed for them.
01:00:31And Zedcastle was playing.
01:00:33It was a song that my father had taught me to whistle to
01:00:36as a kid.
01:00:37I played every game then for my dad.
01:00:39He's not with us now, God rest his soul.
01:00:41So that was resonating with me.
01:00:43So every time you came out of the tunnel at Goodison,
01:00:45made you think of your dad?
01:00:46Not an easy one to learn to whistle to, I can tell you.
01:00:48Can you still whistle it?
01:00:49I'm not going to try.
01:00:50I was going to get you there.
01:00:54We'll sign off, we'll sign off.
01:00:56That is lovely, Martyn, that.
01:00:58Yeah, but it meant a lot to me.
01:01:00And then the siren would go, wouldn't it, just before.
01:01:02And that expectation.
01:01:03I think all that will come to the new ground.
01:01:05The 4-4 game I played there when Kenny Delcaliche
01:01:08resigned after that was Liverpool-Everton.
01:01:11What a wonderful atmosphere that was to play in that.
01:01:13It's a great place to play your football.
01:01:15When the fans there, they told you how to play.
01:01:18They made you put your foot in and give everything.
01:01:20They really dictated.
01:01:22Great, great supporters.
01:01:23Yeah, it was my favourite away ground to go and play at for sure.
01:01:27A couple of great memories for me.
01:01:29I was actually at the 4-4 as a Liverpool fan.
01:01:32I stood on the Gladys Street.
01:01:33But you could wear your Liverpool scarves there.
01:01:35It was a different time, but it was an amazing atmosphere.
01:01:38And probably, of course, I was lucky enough
01:01:40to score the winner for Liverpool there in one of the derbies,
01:01:42which is a great memory as well.
01:01:44But a wonderful, wonderful stadium.
01:01:46It's a shame in many ways, but I understand.
01:01:48It is, it is.
01:01:49But, yeah, you do understand.
01:01:50And Ilham Erengia scores the last two goals
01:01:53for Everton's men at Goodison.
01:01:55Yeah, I mean, he says everything about the way this man plays.
01:01:59His football intelligence is immense.
01:02:01Look at this now.
01:02:02He tries to find space in there amongst a cluster of players.
01:02:05Branthwaite just punches it into him.
01:02:07He just lends it, just a little give and go,
01:02:09gets behind the Southampton midfield.
01:02:12And then this is the area where he's improved.
01:02:14He flattered to deceive from me early in his career,
01:02:17but now he's got the finish, the quality to it.
01:02:19Here, this is really intelligent.
01:02:21He realises they blocked that pass this time.
01:02:23But then it's his movement.
01:02:25He just wants to find a new position.
01:02:27The ball goes into Gay and he flicks it round the corner
01:02:30and he's away and gone.
01:02:32And that is really smart play.
01:02:34And, you know, again, he feeds Beto.
01:02:37Again, he's been introduced by the new manager.
01:02:40You know, deserved to score today but didn't.
01:02:42I want to put this in, Mark,
01:02:44to talk to you about the way that he defends now.
01:02:46Look, he's on that side of the pitch,
01:02:47but look at his work rate.
01:02:49Totally committed.
01:02:50You'd really want a player like that playing in front of you
01:02:53as a full-back.
01:02:54Bree gets across him, but he can hardly get it in
01:02:56because of the work rate, the pressure he's put on there.
01:02:59He really is intelligent.
01:03:01Here, he's found himself on the top line.
01:03:03Decore is coming to feet.
01:03:05He wants to swing into the channel, possibly, but he waits.
01:03:08He's very patient, intelligent.
01:03:10He doesn't waste energy now.
01:03:12And look at the way he just opens his body up,
01:03:15affects the defender.
01:03:16He wants that ball in there behind.
01:03:18Didn't come initially.
01:03:19He gets a little bit lucky.
01:03:20I think Ramsdale should do better there with that one
01:03:22and he tucks it away.
01:03:24He's been really outstanding under the new manager.
01:03:26OK, next, last stat against Ipswich.
01:03:28Tom Gale was at this one.
01:03:31CHEERING
01:03:34Despite a final day trip to Bournemouth still to come,
01:03:37today's Jamie Vardy's last game for Leicester,
01:03:40his 500th appearance and targeting a 200th goal for the club.
01:03:45A nod to the future sees 15- and 16-year-old attackers
01:03:49Jeremy Monger and Jake Evans amongst the substitutes.
01:03:53Ipswich's away points tally has more than doubled
01:03:56the amount they've picked up at home.
01:03:58One of four changes sees Premier League Young Player of the Year
01:04:01nominee Liam De Lapp drop to the bench,
01:04:04their biggest creative weapon.
01:04:05Leif Davies returns from suspension.
01:04:08Two sides hoping to avoid their worst-ever points return
01:04:12for a single season.
01:04:14Leicester need at least five more from their two remaining games.
01:04:18A further three are needed for Ipswich.
01:04:21And Sisso can see Davies.
01:04:23Leif Davies on his right foot and his left.
01:04:26Off the post.
01:04:29First big moment of the game.
01:04:31Forcer Ipswich Town leave Davies in so much space.
01:04:35And that's how close he came.
01:04:37Kieran McKenna turned 39 in the week.
01:04:40This is his fourth meeting against Leicester,
01:04:42having drawn the previous three.
01:04:46They get a break.
01:04:47Jamie Vardy.
01:04:49O'Shea.
01:04:50Vardy.
01:04:51Still Vardy.
01:04:53Angles tight.
01:04:56Well, he's renowned for his blistering pace, Jamie Vardy.
01:05:00And Daro O'Shea knew he was up against it.
01:05:04Maybe does enough just to slow him down slightly.
01:05:07His team-mates are able to provide cover.
01:05:11Nigel Pearson was the Leicester manager who signed Jamie Vardy
01:05:15back in the summer of 2012.
01:05:18Has that chance.
01:05:20Clipped Leicester into gear now.
01:05:22Ayoub is fouled.
01:05:26Davies.
01:05:27Good contact from behind.
01:05:33Alcanuz.
01:05:35Finds Vardy.
01:05:36On the tip!
01:05:39Well, a number of home supporters inside the stadium
01:05:42thought that this was the moment.
01:05:45Does well to bring the ball under control,
01:05:48but credit the Ipswich back line for doing all they can.
01:05:53Clarke.
01:05:54Slips.
01:05:56Justin can bring Leicester forward.
01:05:59Brilliant run here.
01:06:01James Justin.
01:06:02Jamie Vardy!
01:06:17The man Leicester City define as their greatest ever player
01:06:22further cements his legacy.
01:06:27A 200th goal for the club,
01:06:30but a lot of credit has to go to James Justin here.
01:06:34This is what the fans have been begging for.
01:06:36Be positive, slip Vardy in, he does the rest.
01:06:41You could tell there was just no way this wouldn't be his day.
01:06:46Leicester 1-0 Ipswich.
01:06:50Lovely roll there from Kajusta.
01:06:54I think Davies moving at speed, he's away from Justin.
01:06:58Cross.
01:06:59Hutchinson!
01:07:04My reading of this is that he gives George Hurst a shout
01:07:09to let the ball go.
01:07:11That is a chance.
01:07:13Should he have done better?
01:07:17Van Nistelrooy looking to guide Leicester City
01:07:21to three games unbeaten,
01:07:23something they haven't managed all season.
01:07:26McAteer.
01:07:28Groove.
01:07:29McAteer!
01:07:33Close to a wonder goal for the Leicester man.
01:07:38Vardy draws away the Ipswich defenders,
01:07:41the space opens up.
01:07:44He too opens up his body and is inches away
01:07:48from doubling the scoreline.
01:07:51Samara.
01:07:53El Canuce.
01:07:55And Didi.
01:07:56McAteer goes for goal and finds it!
01:08:06Casey McAteer does get a first-ever Premier League goal.
01:08:13He goes for the near post and it rockets past Thorner.
01:08:19Will this be enough to secure all three points for Leicester City?
01:08:26Jamie Vardy from non-league to Premier League,
01:08:30champion of England, FA Cup winner, Golden Boot winner,
01:08:35signs off his Leicester City career with 200 goals.
01:08:42He's not retiring, so the only question is next, Jamie.
01:08:52Hutchinson.
01:08:59Slowed by Thomas.
01:09:04Hutchinson's ball in, a deep one.
01:09:06Leek-Davies!
01:09:08But the flag is raised by Nathalie Aspinall.
01:09:13That would have only been a consolation for the visitors.
01:09:18Semi-automated system confirming Leek-Davies was offside.
01:09:28Leicester City sign off their final home game with a win,
01:09:33just their fourth under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
01:09:38But no doubt in their headline acts is Jamie Vardy.
01:09:43It's four defeats in their last five now for Ipswich Town.
01:09:47Full-time, Leicester City 2-0 Ipswich Town.
01:09:52Of course we were motivated to do well for Jamie,
01:09:55but also to get some momentum going after the Southampton win and the Forest Point.
01:10:00It's at least some positives towards the end of the season,
01:10:03and of course we can't turn back the relegation.
01:10:06Yeah, it's been a great day, it's what dreams are made of,
01:10:08scoring in the Premier League, especially for the first time.
01:10:11To win a day like this, which is so special for Vards and for the club,
01:10:14I'm just happy that I could pay my way into the game and get on the score sheet as well as Vards.
01:10:19First goal is so important in the Premier League,
01:10:21and I think we had a really good start in the game,
01:10:23and the better chances to get it, but they were really clinical,
01:10:28and maybe it was written that it was going to be his goal today.
01:10:31If you're capable of timing all these things,
01:10:34you have to score for your 200th goal and your 500th appearance,
01:10:38and you do it, then you are a great one.
01:10:40It's just great to be part of that, to be part of this unique person and player for this football club,
01:10:46and I think years to come we will realise that we were part of this moment.
01:10:51And now it's time to welcome to King Power Stadium
01:10:55the 2020 Golden Boot winner,
01:10:57the 2016 Premier League Player of the Season,
01:11:01FA Cup champion, Premier League champion,
01:11:05Leicester's number nine, Jamie Vardy!
01:11:20It's been a rollercoaster, it really has.
01:11:24But the good thing is there's been way, way, way more highs,
01:11:28and I think everyone would have never thought we'd have been in the Champions League, winning the league,
01:11:32and I've enjoyed every minute of it,
01:11:34and I look forward to keeping an eye on the club, I love to be honest with you.
01:11:38They're in my heart, that's it.
01:11:41Thank you for taking myself and my family in as one as your own,
01:11:44and I hope I've repaid everything for you.
01:11:50Well, he's more than repaid, hasn't he?
01:11:52200th goal in your 500th appearance, having cost a million quid.
01:11:56He got the send-off he deserved,
01:11:58he's been inspirational for this football club,
01:12:01and the goal was so Vardy-like,
01:12:04watch the movement, the timing,
01:12:06there's the little dart now,
01:12:08little ball and he finishes like we know he can.
01:12:11It's that inspiration he gives to those players who might be in non-league still,
01:12:16might be thinking it's too late.
01:12:19But if you look at him and what he's achieved,
01:12:21it's incredible the hunger he's kept,
01:12:23the desire to keep playing at the age he has,
01:12:25the discipline and the fitness that he has to have
01:12:30to be able to compete at this level at 38, 39.
01:12:3338 is remarkable, isn't it?
01:12:35He just keeps going and going,
01:12:37and you're right, it's about hunger.
01:12:39He's retained his pace as well, not too far away,
01:12:41once another year apparently in the Premier League.
01:12:44It'll be interesting to see where he goes,
01:12:46but certainly to go from non-league to Champions League,
01:12:48and all that in between,
01:12:50he's been the most decorated player for Leicester.
01:12:52Well, he's got the trophies to back the goals up as well,
01:12:55hasn't he? He's got both.
01:12:57He's had a wonderful journey,
01:12:59and to have trophies to look back on as a measure of your success
01:13:04as well as the goals is every striker's dream.
01:13:07Some signing from Nigel Pearson back in 2012.
01:13:11Right, two games from Friday night to show you now.
01:13:14Chelsea against Manchester United on the way,
01:13:17but we begin with Aston Villa against Tottenham.
01:13:23Two clubs chasing the Champions League next season.
01:13:27To maximise their chances, Villa must win their last two games.
01:13:32For Spurs, it's all about the Europa League final on Wednesday,
01:13:36and with that in mind, how focused will they be on matters here?
01:13:40Villa have won their last seven on home soil.
01:13:43They bring in McGinn, Mattsson and Pau Torres.
01:13:46Son Heung-min makes his first start in five weeks for Tottenham.
01:13:50None of their other big names are involved from the off.
01:13:55A minute's applause in recognition of two former Villa favourites.
01:14:01Peter McParland, who scored both goals in their FA Cup triumph of 1957,
01:14:07who sadly passed away this week aged 91.
01:14:11And Jake Findlay, a former goalkeeper who spent three and a half years in the 1970s,
01:14:16who also has sadly passed away aged 70.
01:14:22Anana, getting those long legs, striding forward,
01:14:25Asensio's cut back, looking for Rodgers, away by Davis, in goes McGinn!
01:14:33Well, it's a firm hit from the captain, but unable to keep it down.
01:14:37Plenty of power, but not enough accuracy.
01:14:41Tell, Son.
01:14:48Spurs on the move, Odebere feeding Tell.
01:14:51Moore is in the box as well.
01:14:53Clever effort with the backheel, and it's a brilliant save by Martinez.
01:14:58Lovely flick from Odebere.
01:15:00Lovely interchange between Odebere and Tell.
01:15:04And Tell's cross finds his fellow Frenchman in the middle,
01:15:07what a delightful effort that was.
01:15:11McGinn.
01:15:13For Anana.
01:15:15Good ball in, touched from Rodgers, and touched away by Kinski.
01:15:19It's the closest Aston Villa have come.
01:15:22Kinski able to get fingertips to that.
01:15:27Asensio.
01:15:30Watkins, Anana.
01:15:33McGinn in the box, Asensio on the edge.
01:15:36Good hit!
01:15:38It was curling, but not curling sufficiently.
01:15:41That would have settled the nerves around Villaparque somewhat.
01:15:45Ten minutes from half-time, it's still 0-0.
01:15:51Asensio looks for McGinn.
01:15:54In goes Mattson.
01:15:56And still, Mattson's hit, Danso in the way, another Villa corner.
01:16:03Holtend have picked up the noise,
01:16:06their team needs them as they search for this opening goal
01:16:10that could prove so, so priceless.
01:16:13It's deep, it's Watkins, back in!
01:16:15And it's in by Konza!
01:16:18Breakthrough!
01:16:22What a time for Esri Konza,
01:16:25to find only his second Premier League goal of this season.
01:16:29As Villa edge their way towards the top five of the Premier League.
01:16:35Relief is the big emotion around Villaparque right now.
01:16:40McGinn.
01:16:43Now they'll look to kill this game off as quickly as possible.
01:16:46Cameron.
01:16:50It's found Watkins!
01:16:52Oh, what a save, Kinski!
01:16:55Watkins just about gets the shot away, Davis made the challenge.
01:17:07Rodgers again.
01:17:10It's his camera.
01:17:12Lining up the shots, oh, what a shot!
01:17:16His first ever goal in the Premier League!
01:17:19What a night for the Frenchman to break his duck.
01:17:24Villa double up.
01:17:26And you can't see them getting anything other than all three points tonight now,
01:17:32as they edge ever closer to another Champions League campaign.
01:17:40They changed their style.
01:17:41They were not pushing man-to-man high like usually they are doing.
01:17:46But more or less we were getting better, getting confident.
01:17:49And when we scored the first goal, I think it was the moment we needed as well
01:17:54to feel the possibility to win the match.
01:17:58And with the second goal, I think it was the moment they more or less gave up.
01:18:04When they scored the goal, it kind of broke us a little bit.
01:18:07I think we started getting a bit fatigued.
01:18:09A lot of these players haven't played a lot.
01:18:11And then the game just got away from us.
01:18:13Full steam ahead for Wednesday.
01:18:14Obviously, it's such an important game for everybody at the club.
01:18:17Yeah, it's a massive opportunity.
01:18:19We've got now five days to prepare for it,
01:18:21and it's important we use every day to do that.
01:18:24Looking forward to it.
01:18:26It'll be a great build-up and a great occasion,
01:18:28and hopefully one we can take advantage of.
01:18:36The Chelsea win, coupled with other results going their way,
01:18:39could almost certainly guarantee Champions League football.
01:18:42Manchester United's focus is on the Europa League final now.
01:18:46They've not won in seven league games.
01:18:49Exciting 19-year-old Tyrek George gets his first league start for Chelsea
01:18:53in the absence of suspended Nicholas Jackson.
01:18:55James and Ader Abayo also return.
01:18:57And with Wednesday's Europa League final in mind,
01:19:00Manchester United make five changes.
01:19:02Onana, Lindelof, Maguire, Dorgu and Casemiro come back in.
01:19:07Casemiro, come back in.
01:19:15Just say that news has come on in leaps and bounds in the last 12 months
01:19:19as a Chelsea player strove confidently forward.
01:19:23Palmer.
01:19:25Slips a lovely ball in!
01:19:27Big chance game to Nani Maduaka.
01:19:30And the flag stayed down, and it would have counted.
01:19:34Look at this for a deceptive pass, beautiful.
01:19:37Maduaka spooned it over.
01:19:39Superb pass by Cole Palmer.
01:19:41He's rediscovered his form in recent weeks.
01:19:50Bruno Fernandes whips the ball in, it's beautiful!
01:19:52Maguire right, Manchester United are ahead.
01:19:54And you have to say deservedly so, put on an hour play.
01:19:58Harry Maguire.
01:20:00It's a lovely ball in by Bruno Fernandes.
01:20:03Just onside, or is he leaning off?
01:20:07Oh, I think he could be off.
01:20:11And the look of the manager tells the story.
01:20:13I think it's a rather rueful look.
01:20:16It's going to be ruled out.
01:20:18Offside.
01:20:21Goal does not start.
01:20:28Nani Maduaka.
01:20:30Taking on Masraoui, he's done well.
01:20:32It'll come all the way to James, you can hit to him, and he hit it well.
01:20:38Tracks away from giving Chelsea the lead with a good strike.
01:20:42Cut across the ball.
01:20:44Spun onto the post.
01:20:46Terrific effort.
01:20:50It's a good cross hanging in the air.
01:20:52Half headed away by Masraoui, big appeals for handball.
01:20:56By Enzo Fernandes, the free kick's gone the other way.
01:21:00Where did it hit Hoyland?
01:21:03The ball did strike the hand, says the VAR,
01:21:05but it was at a very short distance away from the striking player.
01:21:13Well, we are an hour into the game.
01:21:19Now here's an opportunity for George, and Anna's come out,
01:21:22and a penalty has given Manchester United rage.
01:21:27But Anna came a long, long way.
01:21:30Was George going anywhere?
01:21:33Was it worth plunging to the ground, but did he make contact?
01:21:38Well, I think Anna comes and gets his hand on the ball.
01:21:42Came a long way, took a chance, plunged into it.
01:21:45He gets his right hand down onto the ball, that's a save.
01:21:49You've seen the VAR monitor, no penalty, that's what VAR's for.
01:21:54No penalty.
01:21:59They say that.
01:22:02Switches on to Pedro Neto.
01:22:05Manchester United shuffle across in the middle to plug gaps.
01:22:09Luis James finds one.
01:22:11It's a good cross, Cucaraya arrives, it's a fine Chelsea goal.
01:22:16And the deadlock is broken after 70 minutes.
01:22:23In a game that has long lacked quality, that was a quality move.
01:22:29And Marc Cucaraya pops up with another goal for Chelsea, 7 this season.
01:22:35But it was Luis James who made it.
01:22:38Chelsea full-backs combined, and good for club and country that
01:22:43Luis James can find a moment like that.
01:22:46Little pirouette, and a fine ball on the half-turn.
01:22:50And Cucaraya came forward unnoticed, to do what he does so often in that situation.
01:22:57Planted a lovely header, beyond Onana, and Chelsea are ahead.
01:23:03And back on course for a Champions League position.
01:23:07That goal could be worth millions.
01:23:12Diallo.
01:23:14Oh, it's a good run.
01:23:16And Sanchez needed to make the save, that's the closest Manchester United have come.
01:23:21Smart stop.
01:23:23First real save he's had to make.
01:23:26Chelsea fans want it over.
01:23:30It is over.
01:23:32And Chelsea have three crucial points, as they end the Stamford Bridge season on a high.
01:23:39And they're still on course for the Champions League qualification.
01:23:42Chelsea 1, Manchester United 0.
01:23:45For me, for the club, for the players, for the fans, it was an important win.
01:23:49And the way I celebrate is because we have just two games to go.
01:23:53It's important to win these kind of games.
01:23:56And for the game to the players.
01:23:58United, they beat City away, they drew at home.
01:24:01They drew against Liverpool, they drew against Arsenal.
01:24:04So they know how to play a big game.
01:24:06And it was very difficult to win the game tonight.
01:24:08We faced the game in the right way.
01:24:10Since day one, the pressure is there, but I live quite well with the pressure.
01:24:14Also the players, because we are Manchester United, we know that.
01:24:17In the past, we had some difficulties in the league.
01:24:20But then when you have a final of any cup, we show up.
01:24:24So we are prepared for that.
01:24:27Well, good luck trying to predict what's going to happen in this Europa League final.
01:24:31Yeah, well, my Tottenham roots pulled me towards Tottenham.
01:24:34I wanted them to win, of course.
01:24:36But I think Manchester United have the only player in both the sides
01:24:40who's reliable in the big games and can create magic.
01:24:43Bruno Fernandes, I think he's been a shining light.
01:24:47And I think he'll make the difference.
01:24:49It's impossible, isn't it?
01:24:51I think it is absolutely impossible to say who this is more important for.
01:24:53Yeah, well, I mean, these are, as you know, two of my favourite teams.
01:24:57Over the years.
01:24:59At least he's got one out of two.
01:25:01You've got none out of two.
01:25:03That's right. I think of the battles I've had with these two clubs.
01:25:05I think Spurs will win it.
01:25:07I honestly do. I know it could be a long night.
01:25:09Maybe Manchester United looking for extra time and penalties.
01:25:12But I feel that Spurs can win this.
01:25:14All right. OK. Despite him saying the Bruno Fernandes, though?
01:25:17I don't... Well, I don't think he'll turn up on the night.
01:25:20I actually think Solanke might be the standout player.
01:25:21£65 million will be like a snip if they win that.
01:25:25In many ways, two of the worst pundits to discuss...
01:25:28Right. Let's show you the table, shall we?
01:25:32Arsenal secure Champions League football.
01:25:34But the race for the remaining three spots are extremely tight.
01:25:37Five teams below them, separated by a point.
01:25:41Brentford remain in eighth.
01:25:43That could still yield a European place.
01:25:45Fulham move into the top half on 54 points.
01:25:47That's their record total in a Premier League season.
01:25:49And Manchester United and Spurs
01:25:51will contest the Europa League final on Wednesday,
01:25:54despite losing 39 league games between them this season.
01:26:00Live commentary on the Europa League final
01:26:03on Five Live and BBC Sounds on Wednesday night.
01:26:06And you can see how the final day of the Premier League season
01:26:09unfolds on Match of the Day next Sunday.
01:26:12So thank you to Danny and to Martin.
01:26:14That's it from Match of the Day 2
01:26:16as we head towards the end of a season
01:26:17that once again reminds us
01:26:19that as much as what happens on the pitch is important,
01:26:22this is really all about the places where we watch football
01:26:25and who we watch it with.
01:26:27Good night.
