00:00So the top four is not where they should be looking, where they should be aiming for but
00:05you have to see what's right now and what's going on and I think that's where they're
00:09aiming to get.
00:10Tottenham on the other hand are looking to join the so-called big four teams and to get
00:15into the Champions League and get themselves back into European football.
00:20And because they are so tightly packed together in the middle of the table Darren, because
00:25they are hoping, as Ashley was saying, to mount this kind of campaign to get into Champions
00:30League football.
00:31Is that why this game today is so big and so important?
00:34Yeah, it's massive because I know it's really early on in the season but still, whoever
00:37loses this, you start looking up the way and the points gaps are getting bigger and bigger
00:40so I expect both teams to go for it.
00:42I mean we know certainly from the Spurs' perspective the way that they play, they'll go front foot,
00:46go after Manchester United because they'll sense that this Manchester United side's maybe
00:49not as defensively solid as it used to be or it once was and Spurs will give you an
00:53opportunity but as I said they play one way, one way only, 100 miles an hour, front foot
00:57football and try and really hurt Manchester United.
00:59Jamie, that's why we're looking forward to this one, as Darren said we know Spurs will
01:03go for it, Manchester United at home, their fans will be hoping they go for it as well.
01:07Well they're not going to park the bus, you can see the midfielders pick Kulicheski, Maddison
01:10and Benson, he could have played Bissouma in there and maybe played Kulicheski wide
01:15instead of Werner but he hasn't.
01:16They're going to have a go, they realise that's maybe where a weakness at Manchester United
01:20have and that's how Addison's team's playing, that's what we like about them.
01:23Making you through this match at Old Trafford this afternoon, it's Gary Neville and Peter Drury.
01:28Kelly, thank you.
01:30Well, historically of course this has always been a glitzy one, United, Spurs and all that
01:36it has meant through the years.
01:38So at Old Trafford today, another day of dreams and high ideals but also of immediate, urgent
01:44demands.
01:45Beyond the enduring allure of two forever charismatic clubs, an awkward reality from
01:52halfway down the league table for either, this would be an inconvenient one to lose.
02:07So for now, accentuate the positive, United are four games unbeaten for Eric Ten Haar
02:13and their goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has kept three clean sheets in five league games.
02:17Brilliant double save at Palace last weekend.
02:20Of the back four, only Matthijs de Ligt has excused Wednesday's European game here.
02:24He's back in for Harry Maguire.
02:26Diego Dallo is the only United player to have started every game in every competition.
02:31Finally, Manuel Ocate has afforded his first start in the Premier League.
02:35He and Kobe Meunier, a brand new combination.
02:38And whatever the explanation for his omission last weekend, Marcus Rashford is involved
02:43from the beginning today at the expense of Ahmad Diallo.
02:47Once more, Joshua Xherxe is at the sharp end.
02:50Six weeks and six games since his debut goal here.
02:54And do note, by the way, that Victor Lindelof returns to be United party after injury today.
02:59Harry Maguire is not on the list.
03:03Well, it's 13 months now since Hans Koster-Koglu achieved his first Premier League win against
03:08Manchester United.
03:09His goalkeeper then, as now, was Juliano Vicario, who had a really good game in Europe on Thursday.
03:15Of this back four, only Micky van de Ven started against Carabao.
03:19Though Destiny Odogi was introduced much, much earlier than had been planned.
03:23It's the same midfield three who kicked off against Brentford last weekend.
03:26Rodrigo Bentancourt, a scorer here at Old Trafford in January.
03:30Son Heung-min hasn't made it.
03:32Timo Werner deputises.
03:33He made his Spurs debut here.
03:35Dominic Solanke has scored in the last two.
03:38Brennan Johnson in the last three.
03:40And it's a Spurs bench which has room for Radu Dragosin after his speedy setting off in Europe.
03:45And indeed for teenage strikers Mikey Moore and Will Langshin.
03:55We do sense a certain amount of mutual empathy between managers, each charged under substantial pressure
04:01with bringing back the good times.
04:03High privilege, high pressure to lead two clubs where just okay is not okay at all.
04:10So, Gary, the dynamics of the midfield.
04:12Yeah, I think this is the first time in the Premier League game that we're going to see Manchester United's first choice midfield.
04:17The one that Eric Tenaerts has been waiting to put together.
04:20And he's got to that time now. I thought it would be coming into October, November, where there could be no excuses.
04:25Legate is out there alongside Meunier and Fernandes.
04:28And Manchester United have to get out of mid-table.
04:30And for Spurs, they have James Vannesson, the most talented player in the Spurs team.
04:35Obviously without Son playing today.
04:37He's not scored a goal against Manchester United.
04:39And he does have the ability to run a game like this.
04:42And Legate will know that he's been in a game at the end of it.
04:52Manchester United top them forever.
04:54A hot-ticket game from Cantona to Kane.
04:58A Premier League unmissable.
05:00Each currently at a ticklish point where the whole thing could easily tip either way.
05:08Momentum for the right, at least on the fringe, to be a part of the big top-end conversation.
05:14Here is a day which can, for both, dictate a direction of travel.
05:37Come on, John!
06:07David.
06:21Lifted up towards Solanke.
06:25Watched by Mazraoui.
06:27Popped on its way by Ogathe.
06:30Sokse couldn't keep it, Odogi has it.
06:37To Moverna.
06:38The Spurs debut on this ground in January.
06:46Fernandes turned into Porro, stolen by Solanke.
06:55Swooped by Romero, Kulisovski couldn't quite break to its challenge.
06:59The Spurs have settled quicker.
07:05He's playing with fire.
07:08Martinez weakly out as far as Porro.
07:12He was caught back seam by Dalot, who had a sense of duty around that.
07:16Now Fernandes with space, Garnaccio up ahead of him.
07:20Taking through in a boot, Rashford hurried through.
07:23And van der Ven hurried out.
07:26He drove away from Ogathe.
07:29Brilliant.
07:30Van der Ven, and touched it by Johnson!
07:32Absolutely brilliant from van der Ven.
07:36One of the best runs I've ever seen from a centre-back.
07:42Sheer blistering pace.
07:45A searing 75-yard sprint from Vander Ven,
07:49and Brennan Johnson has four in four.
07:58I said Spurs had settled quicker, van der Ven just steps in.
08:03And this is absolutely incredible.
08:06He drives through four Manchester United players.
08:10Rashford there, and he just carries on running.
08:13Rubbish from him.
08:16But then there's enough players back to be able to stop it.
08:19But he's unstoppable.
08:21De Ligt starts off running too late.
08:23He completely misreads the pace of the Spurs centre-back.
08:29It's amazing.
08:31He's got the pace of the Spurs centre-back.
08:34He's got the speed of the Spurs centre-back.
08:36He's got the speed of the Spurs centre-back.
08:38It's amazing.
08:41Absolutely brilliant and devastating from van der Ven and Spurs.
08:45He's smiling before he puts it in the net.
08:52Four goals in four games in three different competitions.
09:00Get off your phone, smile and play.
09:03Brennan Johnson has done just that and feels a big part of it now.
09:23At the back of the doggy.
09:27He's protected it well, Fernandes.
09:30And they do.
09:41That's Peter Johnson on the crest of a wave.
09:46Fernandes with the tackle.
09:50And they've kept it from going behind.
09:52I think Manchester United have only had the ball once,
09:59and it was when they tried to take those risks playing out of their own six-yard box.
10:05I actually think we're getting to a point now,
10:07there's Brennan Johnson's dad, played with him when he was young,
10:10he's still smiling.
10:18I actually think we're getting to the point now
10:20where they take more risks in their own box than they do in the opposition box.
10:28That's a steal by Maddison, and he's set it for Solanke.
10:32Martinez did enough.
10:34Spurs are in a moment that if you want to, they can go and score two and three.
10:40They must be smelling blood.
10:46Tottenham, of course, last weekend were behind to Brentford.
10:50Inside the first minute.
10:52They're ahead here inside the first three minutes.
10:57It's not that Manchester United at a certain point will get better in this game,
11:00so whilst you've got them like this...
11:04Spurs keep the tempo, keep playing forward.
11:07We are Tottenham!
11:09Tottenham!
11:11We are Tottenham!
11:37Even if he dives in, he gives a foul away.
11:41Mugate, who's supposed to stop things in midfield,
11:43de Ligt, who's come in to stop things at the back.
11:45Helpless.
11:51Since conceding three here against Liverpool on the first of the month,
11:54United hadn't conceded at all in the Premier League.
11:59214 minutes became 217 before they did again,
12:03clean sheet two against Barnsley in the League Cup.
12:0720, did score here.
12:10Sam Hammers on the first eight.
12:13And now very promptly Brennan Johnson has as well.
12:18It's nice to see a centre-half just step into the space in front of you,
12:21we don't expect centre-back to do quite what Van Der Bende did, it was special.
12:26But rather than just playing it sideways with each other and pop it into midfield,
12:30you can drive forward like he's just done.
12:33Make a big difference.
12:38Check Madrid's record against Manchester United isn't good.
12:43Everybody remembers, of course, their 6-1 Covid win here.
12:50It was unprecedented and odd,
12:53but since then they've won just one in seven home and away against United.
13:08Martinez, Dalot, Xherxei.
13:16Everything's got to be perfect when you play like that.
13:29I just think there's something about a game of football when you're playing at home,
13:32you've got to come out of the real urgency,
13:34and what they've done is decide to let Spurs have it and control the game,
13:37and they've sat off them, Xherxei and Fernandes are not really going.
13:40He's just letting Spurs settle into the game.
13:43And have they settled?
13:47Dalot.
13:49Taken back by Poro, Kosevski couldn't progress.
13:57I actually thought the idea of a football match was to get the ball into the strikers' feet
14:01as early as possible with quality like that.
14:03And that is passed for Marcus Rashford!
14:09Di Cario shut out the lights at the near post, and in any case, the flag was up.
14:16He bends his run, Marcus Rashford.
14:21That's a hell of a pass.
14:23Spurs play with that higher line.
14:29Tottenham amongst his favourite opponents, Rashford, six goals.
14:33Against Spurs in the Premier League.
14:36Going to go 2-1 up in this fixture in January, lovely.
14:41A neat 1-2 with Rasmus Hoyland.
14:43That actually, you'll recall, was his first Old Trafford goal for nearly eight months.
14:48It was one for which he had been thirsting.
14:52I think Rudolf Fernandes has recognised he can't just let the centre-halves of Spurs control the game,
14:55he's got to go and try and press them.
14:57Ben Tancred, Maddison in a meat-piddle pocket, Timo Werner.
15:08Maddison.
15:10Kulisiewski, beautiful!
15:12Maddison!
15:14Out by Ogarte.
15:17Highlighted before the game, Maddison versus Ogarte,
15:20and I said he might have a challenging day.
15:241-0 to Maddison.
15:27Just 1-2'd him and maybe should have scored.
15:34It was a wonderful play from James Maddison, it really was.
15:37The 1-2's fantastic.
15:38Ogarte, he's done, left for dead.
15:41Kulisiewski with a beautiful little return.
15:43Is that first touch just a little bit too far ahead of him?
15:46And credit to Inane, he comes out quickly.
15:53Spurs have started this game really well.
15:57FULL-TIME WHISTLE
16:19Horrow.
16:21That's a snoop, Bruno Fernandes.
16:23Ben Tancred, Maddison, Sweet again.
16:25Kulisiewski.
16:26Good doggy.
16:31They'll regret it, Spurs, if they don't want to score a second,
16:33the way they're playing and how hopeless Manchester United have been
16:36in these first 12 minutes.
16:38Really good from them again, winning it back.
16:40Bruno Fernandes, good in the duel,
16:42and then just really good combination play around the edge of the box.
16:50Just trying to dig it out, the doggy.
16:55Romero, Kulisiewski.
17:02Dominance.
17:06Pretty unambiguous numbers.
17:08Which would not make happy reading for him.
17:16There's only way to go in this game,
17:18this game can't go like this.
17:21Ten Hard coming into October-November,
17:23this is where he's really gonna be judged,
17:25he's had five transfer windows, these are his players out on the pitch,
17:28this is his team.
17:30We've got to start seeing some real progression.
17:35Anderson searching out Werner.
17:38Who got there?
17:39He looked into the eyes of Mazraoui.
17:49That's in court.
18:04This is Tottenham without Son Heung-min.
18:08They did, though, come here in January without him.
18:113-4 at Amsterdam that day, had Johnson on one side,
18:14Werner on the other on debut, and Richarlison will send it forward.
18:17Richarlison's missing now.
18:20That game was notable for being Tottenham's first Premier League game
18:24for three or four years with neither Kane nor Son.
18:29Up top.
18:30Came away with two goals at a point.
18:33That was very highlighted before the game.
18:35James Madison does have a little bit of unfinished business
18:37against Manchester United.
18:39There is no team against which he has played more minutes
18:43without scoring a goal.
19:02Mazraoui.
19:03Fernandes.
19:04Meunier.
19:06Fernandes.
19:09Rashford from wide, Xherzay going in.
19:17He's inviting for him, Xherzay just gets a yard on the Spurs centre-backs.
19:22Hand of ends just half struggling to get back to him.
19:32Romero, Solanke.
19:34Johnson.
19:35Kulishevski joining in, Tottenham are really smooth here.
19:38Madison.
19:45Madison's cross, left into the air by Lissandro Martinez.
19:50Hooked on and out by Okate.
19:54Just getting to terms with the game on the ball and off the ball,
19:58but just to simplify it for him, I think he's got to play quicker
20:01and look over his shoulder and find out where James Madison is
20:04and concentrate on him, because he's causing damage.
20:09Okate began the League Cup romp against Barnsley.
20:16With Casemiro as his partner, he was partnered by Eriksen
20:19against Twente in the week.
20:23So it's a new combination with Kobe Meunier.
20:26He's on the ball now.
20:32It's the first quarter of an hour here, which is leaving Old Trafford
20:37feeling a shade flat.
21:02It's a really good pressing team, they may settle into this shape
21:06in parts of the game, but I still think in the first 5-10 minutes
21:09when the opposition team play up in the back,
21:11you've got to get after them, just to set the intent of the match
21:14and the urgency of the game for the crowd that are here.
21:18Try and get something going, they're just going to hold spurs
21:21to get comfy.
21:31I used to think if you went away from all the teams set up
21:33you could just play out from the back.
21:35It's beautiful.
21:38Dalot.
21:39Rashford.
21:41First chance to taunt Poro.
21:43Marcus Rashford got to the byline and beyond.
21:58He's not going to stop doing that, he shouldn't be discouraged.
22:01He overruns it and Poro just edges him out of play.
22:10Fernando to Rashford, sorted out by Bentancourt.
22:14There's the athlete van der Ven.
22:18The doggy.
22:19Madison crunched by Ogate.
22:24Which is what he's there for.
22:27He's tackling stats with PSG at the top of the league.
22:42Van der Ven.
22:45Madison.
22:46Werner.
22:56Rashford.
23:05Bentancourt.
23:06Led okay by Martinez.
23:08The space out of which Fernandes can create.
23:11And he's all gone at show.
23:19That's Rowey.
23:23Picked off by Werner.
23:26First start of the season in the Premier League for Timo Werner.
23:31Got a game at Coventry in the League Cup.
23:34Hasn't started a league game since getting injured in the North London derby last April.
23:56Van der Ven.
24:08The doggy.
24:09Beyond him, Werner.
24:11The doggy.
24:13Chasing away from Mazraoui.
24:16Feeding it in for Dejan Kulishevsky.
24:19And Brennan Johnson hits the poster now!
24:22That would have been a wonderful goal.
24:24From back to front.
24:27I was just watching Tottenham play out and thinking,
24:29what is Manchester United's trigger for the press?
24:31It comes the whole length of the pitch, it's a wonderful move from Spurs.
24:36And he does nearly everything perfectly well, Brennan Johnson.
24:41He's concentrating on the strike, going across the goalkeeper, through the legs.
24:47And it's just the width of the post.
24:50I think he'd look at this game after 20 minutes and he'd realise his team are playing well.
24:56And think they should be 2-0 up.
24:59Brennan Johnson amongst the goals, hungry for more.
25:02His best scoring season was Forrest's promotion year when he got 19 goals, 18 in the Championship.
25:09Eight goals in his Premier League season for Forrest.
25:14Five goals in his complete Premier League season for Tottenham.
25:18Who, it would appear, are pondering change here with Odoi struggling.
25:25That's a big blow that for Spurs, I think they really do miss him.
25:27I think he missed the last six, seven games of last season.
25:31The form wasn't great, the record isn't great when he doesn't play.
25:34He brings so much to them, the energy and the speed.
25:38Just his positions that he takes up.
25:42Could have had two.
25:44And he starts right at the back.
25:47Manchester United are a team that need to press well, but then let teams play through them.
25:53It's a very strange combination.
25:59He's beating Harnett, he's just hoping.
26:04They're always two or three yards late.
26:07Each of the Manchester United defenders backing up that sort of...
26:10I'm not even going to call it a press, I'm going to call it a movement towards the ball.
26:21Odoi looks as though he's willing to carry on.
26:25Jed Spence is shadowing him.
26:31There's a medical call to be made down there by the Tottenham staff.
26:3730 seconds for him to come back on.
26:43Bentancourt filling in.
26:45Garnaccio.
26:47Kobe Meunier.
26:49Joshua Zagzei!
26:50It's a fair old reach from Di Cario.
26:56He was stretching Xerxe, as was Di Cario when he saved it.
27:01Kobe Meunier just plays a lovely little pass into Xerxe.
27:05He's a little bit off-balance and just reaching out for it with his left foot.
27:11He just gets down the goalkeeper, a pretty strong hand at full stretch.
27:18Manchester United's first shot of the game.
27:20Towards the midway point of the first half.
27:23That is the nonsense of the 30-second rule, isn't it?
27:25Obviously Meunier gets it in that area where Odoi may have been.
27:30Here's Odoi.
27:32Still sharp.
27:33Werner.
27:35Problem for Mazraoui.
27:37Werner.
27:39Pinched by Delo.
27:40Now Fernandes can turn and look.
27:43Zerxe.
27:45Taken away by Romero, who is penalised.
27:56Rashford.
27:58Steered towards Garnaccio, who can't catch it up.
28:03Garnaccio.
28:09Spurs line.
28:10It's aggressive.
28:11Rashford's just hanging on the edge of it.
28:16Difficult pass that.
28:18Garnaccio is moving away from Garnaccio.
28:21Right, Spurs next weekend.
28:24The battle of the highest lines.
28:30Interesting.
28:32This is Manchester United's shape now.
28:34But what is the trigger for them to actually sort of start to press?
28:38I can't see a...
28:40I can't see a...
28:42I can't see a...
28:44I can't see a...
28:46I can't see a...
28:48I can't see a...
28:50I can't see a pattern of when they go.
28:55And yet they don't put pressure on the ball when it's played into midfield either.
29:00Just get out the other side.
29:13Found the net.
29:19Maddison-Harry by Xherxey.
29:38Fewest touches in the match.
29:41Not the most meaningful.
29:49Yes.
30:00Hikari, the doggy.
30:01Tested by Ugarte, who's won it well.
30:04Xherxey looked to sift it through for Bruno Fernandes.
30:08And Sandro Martinez.
30:12Overhits his pass.
30:20Maddison.
30:22Poro.
30:24Johnson.
30:46Selenki.
30:49Selenki.
30:55Slipped away from Martinez and from Rashford.
30:58Support from Poro.
30:59Bentancourt.
31:00Kulishevski.
31:02Johnson!
31:04Scooped away by Masraoui from in front of Timo Werner.
31:07It's brilliant all round.
31:10Spurs are just cutting through United at will.
31:12United have got all the bodies back there, but they may as well be statues or mannequins.
31:17And this from Masraoui, he's really good defending.
31:19That's a tough one for him with his left foot.
31:22And to clear it like that.
31:24He played right back a few times.
31:27He's brilliantly done.
31:30Anything can happen with those ones.
31:37How bad are United in this first 25 minutes?
31:41Really bad.
31:46Again for Spurs.
31:48United will come into this game at some point.
31:50They've really got to go for it now.
31:52They're so lethargic.
31:53Lacking energy, lacking quality, lacking any belief.
31:58The crowd aren't engaged at all.
32:02I refer you, Gary, to a game at White Hart Lane 23 years ago today when you were 3-0 down.
32:08And the second half was a very different story.
32:10Yeah, and this game will change at some point.
32:13But while Spurs are in this moment...
32:17They're going for it.
32:21Timo Werner.
32:27United that day for our younger viewers came back and won 5-3.
32:36One of the most gleaming pieces of Premier League archive there is, certainly from a United perspective.
32:42And the comeback began actually with a very good delivery from the right full-back that day onto Andy Cole's head at the start of the second half.
32:51Slanky.
32:53Beaten off it by Mazraoui.
33:12Rashford.
33:40Dalot.
33:41Runs it to Bentancur.
33:42Sharply up for Slanky.
33:43Outside of whom again is Johnson.
33:47Brennan Johnson.
33:48Dejan Kulishevski.
33:49De Ligt is tight.
33:52Johnson again.
33:54Maddison to dance.
33:59Timo Werner went to try and get it back.
34:06He doesn't know what's happening behind him there, James Maddison.
34:08He goes for the little dink to the back post.
34:12Just hoping someone's arriving.
34:15Sometimes you can drive it across and no-one be there, and vice versa.
34:29Dalot got into trouble.
34:31Maddison!
34:32Maddison!
34:39And do some more damage in this period, but it's almost as if United are asking to get beat.
34:45Yeah, I mean, Shakes has said it, he can't believe what he's watching, I can't believe how much it's awful.
34:52Calls to frown.
34:54It really is bad.
34:55Bentancur.
34:57Kulishevski.
34:59Werner.
35:03Get in!
35:08More puzzling, regardless of the midweek European game.
35:11Off the back of a first half at Crystal Palace last week, when United did look purposeful.
35:17It won't be at Coles.
35:25I mean, I'm not even talking about scoring goals, I am just talking about the basics.
35:33Shot to pieces, a lot of them.
35:37Kulishevski.
36:02Dalot!
36:03Kulishevski!
36:05Dalot!
36:06Kulishevski!
36:08Romero.
36:14Werner.
36:24Chose in a tight spot.
36:26Werner picked his pocket, and here's Maddison.
36:32Maddison.
36:37So, looking around the corner.
36:39I don't know whether he yarded or two.
36:43Mutogi.
36:45Squirts off to lick for a corner.
36:47That's the important block, can be licked.
36:56Come on then.
37:03I don't know, I'm just trying to get him going.
37:19Here comes Maddison, straight for it.
37:25Deep for Maddison.
37:28Into a point by Solanke.
37:30Back in by Poro.
37:32Romero.
37:34Acrobatics.
37:39Unless that ball gets cleared out.
37:41I think it's the United fans in the end that shout,
37:43get out there, and they don't get out there.
37:45And the cross comes in.
37:46He makes really good contact with it, Romero.
37:48It's behind him.
37:51There's a moment there.
37:52View, Peter.
37:53It looked like it might just settle into the corner.
37:56Mutogi.
37:57Werner.
37:58Mutogi's gone over again.
37:59And he's writhing again.
38:01Masraoui's gone and he's been booked.
38:05Chris Cavanagh's the referee.
38:18And that is why he went to his pocket.
38:24Premier League yellow card.
38:26And the life of Lucio Masraoui.
38:31For Eric ten Hagas now started all six in the Premier League
38:34as well as the European game midweek.
38:425-3 game 23 years ago.
38:43Ruud van Nistelrooy there got the equaliser.
38:45The 3-3 goal.
38:47In by Maddison.
38:51He had a crazy record against Tottenham.
38:53Ben Tancourt.
38:58Johnson.
39:00Toro.
39:01Solanke.
39:02Kulishevski.
39:03Masraoui was where he needed to be.
39:04Now Garnaccio just might escape for United.
39:05Slings it towards Serksei.
39:06Neydou.
39:07Dalot.
39:08Dalot.
39:09Dalot.
39:10Dalot.
39:11Dalot.
39:12Dalot.
39:13Dalot.
39:14Dalot.
39:15Dalot.
39:16Dalot.
39:17Dalot.
39:18Dalot.
39:19Dalot.
39:20Dalot.
39:21Dalot.
39:22Dalot.
39:23Dalot.
39:24Dalot.
39:25Dalot.
39:26Dalot.
39:27Dalot.
39:28Dalot.
39:29Dalot.
39:30Dalot.
39:31Dalot.
39:32Dalot.
39:33Dalot.
39:34Bruno Fernandez.
39:35Garnaccio's round the back from Higuindo.
39:47Well for Manchester United's officialdom.
39:49It doesn't make pretty watching.
39:51Pretty watching.
39:57The manager, during a week when Burrata suggested they can be champions by 2028.
40:06Setting a marker.
40:15I'm not sure he said they would necessarily be or will be, but he said it as a reasonable target.
40:20Yeah, but I think that's the realism that's surrounding this place at the moment.
40:25It's been a fortune, yet I still feel that there's a few years left until the club can achieve Premier League title success,
40:32which, when I say the way in which Liverpool, Arsenal and City are at the moment, I wouldn't disagree with them.
40:38But when you watch this, I know it's Premier League football a lot, but this is not very good.
40:49A group of players who have been expensively assembled.
41:20That's because it's only 1-0.
41:26He really upsets Burrs.
41:28That's for Garnaccio!
41:34Beautifully clean connection.
41:38It was there last season when Garnaccio scored that incredible overhead kick.
41:43As it's coming over to him, you see it come to him and drop.
41:47A long way out, he has time to set it up.
41:49I think he just slips, his left leg just gives way underneath him, he's about to strike.
41:55It's a warning sign for Spurs.
42:06It's out from behind by Martinez.
42:17This time last year, Sandro Martinez was just beginning his long injury absence,
42:23between September and January.
42:29As part of a campaign when United's centre-half pairing appeared to alter week by week.
42:35Come on, come on!
43:05He's never going to get back.
43:07He's always going to get the shot.
43:09And Arnold was positive, he just chased out towards him.
43:14I'm not saying he had the game at his feet there, Timo Werner,
43:18but the long way towards it.
43:23Dalot's giveaway, Johnson.
43:27Krzyzewski was on his way, Dalot impeded.
43:30You must expect to see a yellow card.
43:35Spurs have been good, they've been very good,
43:39but they should be well ahead in this game, they really should.
43:46This is the Werner chance, Manchester United give it away,
43:49a little bit of good fortune there, and they just poke it through Krzyzewski,
43:53who's been fantastic.
43:59Let others in the studio explain what he should have done.
44:03The one thing I do know is he should have done better than that,
44:05I just never fancied him, sometimes it's a feeling when someone goes through
44:08that you think, I'm confident, I think he's going to score, and I wasn't.
44:13Maybe I just thought, I'll try and intimidate him by coming out early.
44:20Two goals for Timo Werner in his first Spurs season.
44:25Or half-season, on return from Leipzig.
44:34Maddison's free kick, Onana came, van der Ven,
44:38Neydou made the block.
44:42Johnson came hurrying in, and Xherxey was an impediment.
44:50Five minutes out from half-time.
45:04Krzyzewski's corner.
45:08Squeezed out here as far as Bentancourt.
45:12Solanke back to goal.
45:16Maddison.
45:18Johnson.
45:21Maddison kept going, couldn't bring it with him.
45:23Romero keeps it alive for Werner.
45:28Romero's dispossessed by Xherxey.
45:31Romero's dispossessed by Xherxey.
45:34Rashford.
45:36Fernandes outside of him.
45:49Neydou.
45:56Maddison found by Bruno Fernandes.
45:58They're not happy at all to red.
46:02Back to worst for Manchester United.
46:07We can't quite see it from up here, but when players react like that,
46:10then you think something's gone on that we've not seen,
46:13and it obviously isn't clever.
46:17He's not happy Bruno Fernandes, but he won't go off that.
46:21Let's have a look.
46:29Oh, no, it's no good.
46:33He's gone knee-high, Bruno Fernandes.
46:36Has he slipped maybe before?
46:39Not as bad from that angle, but he's not going to get away with it.
46:44I think he slips, you watch him there, and then he just...
46:53Four and a half years into his Manchester United life,
46:56Bruno Fernandes receives his first red card in these colours.
47:04The fact of the matter is he slips, and then I think he just reacts
47:07and thinks he tries to trip him, but it looks bad
47:09because he's gone in just under knee-high.
47:12He's not going to be overturned, the referee's decision is going to stand.
47:18It's not as bad as I initially thought, but it just sums up
47:20Manchester United in this first half, who, to be fair,
47:22have been an absolute disgrace.
47:25It's one of the worst performances I've seen in Eric ten Haag's time
47:28at Manchester United, and that's saying something.
47:31It's really bad, he will not be able to believe what he's watched
47:34in that first half, I'm not talking about patterns of play here,
47:36I'm talking about application towards a football match.
47:39And now, frustration.
47:43The captain's sent off.
47:45A situation serious enough, exacerbated further by serious foul play.
47:52Manchester United, a goal down, a man down.
47:57Just down.
48:02I think a lot of Manchester United fans, including myself,
48:04came into this game today thinking this would be the day.
48:07Son's not playing, you've got mainly a full squad together.
48:11Last week at Palace some of the football was good,
48:14but it's been as bad as it gets.
48:16It really has, no urgency, no life in them.
48:21And the crowd, they will not be able to believe what they've just witnessed
48:26in this first 43 minutes.
48:29And they're patient, they're not booing,
48:31they may have a little bit of a grumble at half-time.
48:36Spurs have just dominated this match.
48:40Maybe a spin withdrawn, Mason Meltzer's his replacement.
48:52And he is not the only one to appear pretty disenchanted.
49:04It's the first time I've seen that happen, where a sub gets substituted,
49:07Mane has walked off and Mount's not come on.
49:10He can't even make a substitution well.
49:13So currently, Manchester United are defending with nine,
49:17why did Mane come off?
49:19Why didn't he just stay on?
49:20I mean, what's happened?
49:21It's ridiculous.
49:26Well, Mount gets them up to ten.
49:31We saw a team last week go down to ten men in the second half,
49:35play a certain way, but certainly with determination.
49:37We saw a team last week go down to ten men in the second half,
49:40play a certain way, but certainly with determination.
49:42People might not have liked the fact that they didn't come out
49:44and attack, but they certainly played with fight and grit
49:47and organisation.
49:49We'll see how Manchester United go with ten men.
49:54Turn up.
49:59Arsenal had a lead to protect,
50:01Manchester United have a game which in theory at least
50:03they're going to need to chase.
50:07First themselves played most of their midweek game
50:10with ten men on Thursday and did very well.
50:13They have the numerical advantage now.
50:24Johnson sent spinning.
50:27Dalot needs to be careful not to become overly involved
50:31as Johnson who's got the card now.
50:33But Dalot's on a card himself.
50:37He's got the card.
51:00The only little jolt of good news is that half-time is so soon.
51:04There's a chance to escape, get into them.
51:06I've started eating my own sandwich.
51:21Don't be quick on with it, Maddison.
51:23I'm not sure, but Old Trafford always seems like a very big pitch.
51:28Spurs have got to play on that, stretch the game as much as possible
51:32but still play with tempo.
51:35Work those legs.
51:37What a clear of Masraoui.
51:40A little too deep for Johnson, who's felt he's got a bit of a tug.
51:45Romero.
51:48Bentancourt.
51:50Check is complete, nothing doing.
51:53There's a VAR check.
52:01Romero.
52:03Bentancourt.
52:05Check is complete, nothing doing.
52:15You should see the half-time reaction of the fans.
52:18Really will.
52:23They're very loyal here, they'll stay with the team,
52:27they'll stay with the manager, but this is really testing their patience.
52:46I think they'll be more than entitled to have a right good boot.
52:50Mount has left one on Bentancourt.
52:55Another card.
53:07It's just all a bit grey.
53:11Three yellows and a red.
53:13So they're just united.
53:20It's just all a bit grey.
53:43A doggy.
53:48Romero.
53:51Check is complete, nothing doing.
53:55Poro.
53:59Again.
54:20Johnson, Kulosevsky.
54:51Half-time.
54:53Let the Stretford end tell you.
54:55Let it tell him.
54:57For Manchester United, that is pretty grim.
55:01They were behind inside three minutes and truth be told,
55:05they didn't ever really look like recovering.
55:07Brennan Johnson was in the back of the net.
55:10He's got a bit of a run-up.
55:12He's got a bit of a run-up.
55:14He's got a bit of a run-up.
55:16He's got a bit of a run-up.
55:17They didn't ever really look like recovering.
55:19Brennan Johnson, four goals in four games,
55:22off the back of a wonderful gallop from Micky van der Ven.
55:27And things went from bad to worse when United's captain, Bruno Fernandes,
55:31was sent off for a foul on James Madison.
55:35It's quiet here.
55:36It's Manchester United 0, Tottenham Hotspur 1.
55:47Oh.
