00:26degli Stati Uniti, J.D. Vence, la Presidente della Commissione Europea Ursula von der Leyen
00:30per aver accettato questo invito.
00:32A voi ripetete in inglese.
02:09can sit down and share our our points of view trying to go on we know how
02:17important is the relation between the EU and the US for a strong West for our
02:24civilization also for our economic relations that worth 30 percent of the
02:32world exchange and so I hope that this meeting can be a new beginning let's say
02:38like that and I was also saying that there are some topics which are competence
02:42of the Commission so the role of Italy is mainly the war of the war the role of
02:47trying to help a dialogue which I think is very important Frank open but knowing
02:53how important we are each for each other so I stop here vice president please
02:58great thank you Prime Minister Maloney who's become a good friend of mine and
03:03we're I know I speak for the president when I say we're both big fans of yours
03:07and of course of Italy the people of Italy have been most gracious especially
03:11today which was a beautiful ceremony and all credit goes to the Vatican but of
03:15course your government for making it possible for so many foreign leaders to
03:17come in and celebrate Pope Leo's inaugural Mass of course an American Pope the
03:22United States is very proud of him very thrilled with him and certainly our
03:24prayers go with him as he starts this very important work I'm looking forward to
03:28this conversation I think one of the things that Prime Minister Maloney has
03:31offered to do and of course the president and I are excited to accept is
03:36really to be a bridge builder I think in some ways between Europe and the United
03:41States I've said repeatedly that I think you know Europe is an important ally of
03:46the United States the individual countries within Europe are important
03:49allies of the United States but of course we have some disagreements as friends
03:53sometimes do on issues like trade and we also have many agreements and many
03:58things that we can work on together and I'm looking forward to this conversation
04:01so I appreciate Prime Minister Maloney's hospitality I appreciate
04:05Commissioner von der Leyen being here and being willing to engage in this
04:09conversation I think we'll have a great conversation and hopefully will be the
04:13beginning of some long-term trade negotiations and some long-term trade
04:18advantages between both Europe and the United States
04:22yes first of all thank you very much dear Georgia for your hospitality for
04:27having received us here today for enabling this trilateral so a wonderful day in
04:33the Vatican thank you very much for that and vice president it's good to see you
04:37again we've met in Paris now here in Rome and as you said we have a very
04:42special and close relationship if I may look at trade indeed we have the largest
04:48trade relationship in the world sure with more than 1.5 trillion dollars per year very much
04:57intertwined so indeed it is important now we have exchanged papers that our experts are deep diving
05:05discussing the details everybody knows that the devil is in the detail but what
05:09unites us is that at the end we want together to have a good deal for both sides I would like
05:16also to raise the topic of Ukraine what unites us is that we want to adjust and
05:22last in peace and I know how much you are engaged in ending this war and I thank you
05:28for that so what is important now is certainly that we push that things are
05:35moving forward and I think the next week will be crucial on that and finally
05:39perhaps an important topic between us also is the topic of defense and I know that the
05:45European member states have to step up the investment in defense this is why as a commission
05:50we have enabled the use of up to 800 billion euros in the next four years for defense investment
05:58and this of course will strengthen the European Union but we know what a strong Europe means
06:05always also a strong NATO so we will certainly take stock at the NATO summit but today very glad to
06:11be here for this trilateral and thank you very much again Georgia you're welcome
