00:30that you are paying witness to what is said to be a landmark chapter
00:34in both the professional wrestling careers and love of this sport
00:38for El Desperado and Mao.
00:40And I can't believe I'm going to say it, Chris.
00:42The first time ever in singles action happening here,
00:46not in a DDT ring, but in a New Japan pro wrestling ring.
00:51It is Mao and El Desperado.
00:54Well, getting into this one, Mao is said
00:58to represent DDT and himself in canon in Strange Love Connection.
01:06But yes, this might be in the cerulean blue,
01:11but Mao has every intention of making this not a New Japan main event,
01:15but a DDT main event.
01:17And I have a feeling that we're going to go all over the place.
01:20I have a feeling this is going to get wild.
01:22It's going to get weird. It's going to get crazy.
01:25I got a feeling that you and I are going to love it.
01:28And it was a campaign for El Desperado and best of the Super Junior 32
01:47that kicked off only the way anyone would have expected.
01:50A victory over T-Todd, two points on the board.
01:53However, two points are all that remain for El Desperado
01:56as he has dropped two back to back in Corcoran Hall,
02:00including the most recent bout against one Taiji Ishimori.
02:04And as we saw at the tail end of that bout with Ishimori,
02:07the frustration continues to build for El Desperado,
02:11knowing he is not only the defending best of the Super Junior winner,
02:14but also the current IWGP junior heavyweight champion.
02:18RED CORNER
02:26The official match, one win, two losses.
02:29The winner is the all-time best of the Super Junior champion,
02:34and the IWGP junior heavyweight champion,
02:39the unknown heavyweight champion, El Desperado!
03:10It was a match that Sasaki had with Mao as part of a four-way match.
03:16That was when Desperado first set eyes on Mao,
03:20and has been determined to get involved with the young man ever since.
03:25One tag team match, All-Star Junior Festival in the USA and Philadelphia.
03:33Desperado and Mao face Nick Wayne and Jordan Oliver to bring us all back full circle.
03:39Oh man, everybody's up for this.
03:54This is one of those situations where you just have no real idea of what to expect.
04:01You know, that's something to say about this matchup, Chris.
04:03Two wrestlers who are incredibly unique in their own rights,
04:06but it's one thing for El Desperado to be unique within the New Japan Pro Wrestling Sphere,
04:10but for Mao to be unique in coming out of an organization like DDT,
04:14that changes the definition of unique overall.
04:22I gotta tell you, it's my first time being able to call a Mao match live in person,
04:26and Mao's been a real standout, special talent throughout this tournament.
04:32As it is, Mao and Desperado are going to go back and forth trading a couple of holds,
04:37and it is a trade indeed, as Desperado knows he won't make quick work of Mao here tonight.
04:42Has a lot of respect for Mao in that regard.
04:48Mao is someone who just casually will do something you've never seen before.
04:55You know, I mean...
05:00He's a rare beast, and a rare sort of mentality.
05:07And even just the way he got into the business, Walker, you know, I mean, he was...
05:12Some of the kids in the West might wrestle in their backyards,
05:16and not many backyards here in Japan, so...
05:19Nick Wayne in his bedroom would stack out a bunch of mattresses as a junior high school kid,
05:25film it, put it on YouTube.
05:29Sensho Takagi just happened to see one of those videos and said,
05:33well, if you want to take this seriously, kid, you better get yourself trained professionally,
05:37and that's exactly what Mao did, he came into the DDT.
05:40Wow.
05:47This is Super Genius, by the way, Walker, brought to you by the shape Square.
05:52Hey!
05:55Hey!
05:57Hey!
05:59Hey!
06:01Hey!
06:02Hey!
06:04Hey!
06:06Hey!
06:08Well, being square doesn't have anything to do with legality,
06:11and El Desperado can have as much umbrage with Mao tonight as he wants with it, but...
06:18It's hip to be square, Walker.
06:23No selling that.
06:25You're way too young.
06:27Okay, well, I told you.
06:33Red Shoes wants it inside.
06:39Well, Red Shoes always the harbinger of the law, but...
06:46This is a main event.
06:48Okay, it's a main event.
06:49This is Super Genius, we should do it the right way.
06:57Well, Mao definitely has his own opinions on what the right way looks like,
07:01coming out of a DDT ring, and now...
07:04Yeah, right back to the outside.
07:06Mao and Desperado take it.
07:08And charging full steam ahead into the outside here.
07:15Oh, and Mao, square as square can be.
07:18Squares up to Desperado.
07:22Move your laptop, you're going out loud.
07:24You don't talk about my laptop.
07:27Mao and Desperado here.
07:33Oh, well...
07:35Mao with a boo right across the face of Despe, and now...
07:40Sizing up.
07:44Oh, my gosh!
07:48Effortlessly.
07:50Easily.
07:52Casually.
07:53Doing something you've never seen before.
07:57Even if you've seen it done before, have you seen it done so effortlessly?
08:00Have you seen it done so well?
08:04There's a lot of force crashing down on Desperado here.
08:07Now, cursing the hardness of Desperado's head.
08:22And Red Shoes is going to continue this count here on the outside.
08:27As Desperado wanted to put Mao down, and now...
08:31Oh!
08:32He gave them some time.
08:34They might be running out.
08:36Wait!
08:38No, not like this!
08:39Look at the main event!
08:41Oh!
08:43Oh!
08:45Oh!
08:47Oh!
08:49Oh!
08:51Oh!
08:53Oh!
08:55Oh!
08:57Oh!
08:59Oh!
09:00Oh, not like this!
09:01Look at the main event!
09:07Oh, a count of 19!
09:08What?
09:11And a cutter!
09:13From Mao to Desperado!
09:16And Red Shoes has stopped the count to go outside to...
09:23You would think that Mao thought he was about to get counted out,
09:27and did something deliberately so reckless,
09:30that Red Shoes went out to check on the two and stop the count.
09:33I think that's exactly what might have happened.
09:39I mean, if Mao had the forethought, I'm not certain, but...
09:46Well, Desperado looking to drag Mao down.
09:52Oh, and beating the count at 20.
09:55I said that was the longest 19 in pro-wrestling history.
09:59Yeah, you talk about a long leash, Chris, but...
10:01Good God, Red Shoes Uno has it here tonight.
10:04That was about as long as a Nick Patrick fika.
10:19Am I making that outright, Chris?
10:21The show must go on.
10:22That's what I'm hearing.
10:24The show must go on.
10:26The show must go on.
10:28The fight continues.
10:30You're the one who's going to win!
10:33I'm not going to break!
10:35I'm not going to lose!
10:37DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
10:45New Japan! New Japan! New Japan!
10:54DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
10:58DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:01DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:04DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:07DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:10DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:13DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:16DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:19DDT! DDT! DDT! DDT!
11:21Ah!
11:43A little bit of the grin wiped off the face of Mao here.
11:49Nice! Nice!
11:52Wow.
11:54The lady in the lake is raising a middle finger to El Desperado.
11:57And now...
12:02That face-locker is...
12:21Long way for the ropes.
12:27Going to get there. Mao taking that arm away.
12:31Oh, and look at it. Desperado on the cover. On the cover again.
12:35And it's only two.
12:38Oh, Mao's superhero efforts.
12:41And again for Desperado. We're back in the crucifix.
12:44Drop down. No!
12:47Oh, it's had a clutch.
12:49Oh, get a clutch in the other way.
12:52No.
13:04Oh, and Mao with the dropkick to rock the junior heavyweight champion.
13:10Despe up, up, up. What comes up must go down.
13:14Despe wanting Mao in place. Tried for no more, Dawson.
13:17Mao came up to his feet.
13:21And he's hurting here. And he's trying to...
13:23Wait, wait, wait. Hey, wait a second.
13:25Mao. No!
13:26Oh, cut on Red Shoes.
13:30In each of his matches, Mao has found some way
13:33to bring the referee in between him and his opponent
13:36so he can hit that cutter.
13:38And this time, Red Shoes did not. He ate all of it.
13:43Oh, well.
13:45That's a new Japan icon right there in Red Shoes.
13:48Oh, he's in trouble. And Mao pointing fingers at Despe.
13:54It's not Mao's fault. It was definitely Mao's fault.
14:06Despe going, what are we going to do now?
14:09Well, it's not referee Shoma Kato.
14:12That's young lion Shoma Kato.
14:16Shoma Kato took a tie to the head earlier today.
14:18I think he's in no position to be calling anything.
14:20I believe this is...
14:23strong coming to sigh out of Mao tonight.
14:26He ain't getting booked again.
14:31Freedom!
14:33Oh, no. Freedom.
14:36The cry for Mao.
14:38Oh, no.
14:40I can see it, too.
14:50Well, Desperado's not saying no tonight, Chris.
14:53Despe! Despe! Despe!
15:03He's seen a little bit of everything tonight, Walker.
15:06Kishida, Fujita, that great grappling match they had.
15:10High flying.
15:13Hiromi, drag and die. That was a great back and forth.
15:17I don't think we've seen...
15:18How do you use this?
15:20These plastic boxes brought into a Best of the Super Junior match before.
15:33That'll wake you up.
15:43Now, let's not pretend El Desperado and especially Mao...
15:47are not used to this level of punishment.
15:49No, I mean, they've done far worse to it.
15:55They're helping each other set it up.
15:58Somebody...
16:01Boom!
16:14Well, it's one thing to say, let's see who's tougher.
16:23You know, forearms, chops, grapple submissions.
16:28How about we set up a bunch of boxes?
16:30We'll see who can throw the other foot.
16:33Oh, and now referee Marty Isami.
16:38Oh, that's not...
16:41That's not at all what Mao and Desperado want here.
16:44Hey! Hey!
16:53I can't do this anymore. Get up.
16:56No, no, no!
16:58I'll get up even if you tell me to.
17:00I don't know how to get up.
17:02Hey, hey, hey!
17:04Get up!
17:10Get up!
17:14Get up!
17:18What are Mao and Desperado thinking here?
17:20No, no, no, no, no.
17:22I don't think they're thinking much of anything.
17:25Yeah, what the hell?
17:32Well...
17:44What the hell are you doing?
17:46Again!
17:50Listen, I mean...
17:52Hey, hey, hey!
17:58It's best of the super juniors, Walker.
18:00It's not brightest of the super juniors.
18:02Well, best of is in every single style.
18:06Lucha libre type.
18:09Whatever you classify DDT and Mao as,
18:12is infested and infected.
18:14New Japan Pro Wrestling tonight.
18:18Oh, but Mao...
18:25I think they've gotten it out of their system.
18:31And now...
18:33Mao showing too hard boots to the head.
18:37Have a couple of kicks to the junior heavyweight champion.
18:42And a spear from El Desperado.
18:48Desperado want to put this one away here.
18:54Brain Buster!
18:57Brain Buster!
18:59I feel one of the sides of that box as well.
19:02Skull first, and here we go.
19:04Put it away, Pincheno!
19:09Pincheno can drive it too.
19:13Mao, could it be a win for the junior champ?
19:16No!
19:17Mao, could it be a win for the junior champ?
19:20No!
19:31Mao came here intent on showing New Japan Pro Wrestling
19:36how unique DDT Pro Wrestling is.
19:38And now he's determined to show how strong DDT Pro Wrestling is.
19:43The EI kick, Rokka, put him flush on the jaw.
19:58And it's not just about DDT and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
20:02It's the defiance of the junior heavyweight champion.
20:06Oh!
20:12Yeah, hold it.
20:15Mao having wrist control.
20:17Desperado can't go anywhere.
20:19And that square granite skull driven into the champion.
20:29Oh, geez!
20:31The back of the head of Mao collides with the front of Desperado.
20:37Off the ropes.
20:44Moments of distraction stop the Rinkai upper.
21:01Yeah!
21:05Yeah!
21:06Oh!
21:08Again, Mao!
21:12Yeah!
21:14Oh!
21:17Yeah!
21:18That's it!
21:19That's it!
21:20That's it!
21:21That's it!
21:22Come on!
21:28Ah!
21:29Oh!
21:31Oh!
21:40Each time the heel of the hand.
21:44Oh!
21:45Oh!
21:46As close as it can be.
21:54Oh!
21:55Oh!
21:58OK!
22:02They started crazy, Walker.
22:04They started...
22:07..with a couple of shots of a picnic.
22:12On the answer tonight, there'll be even less of a picnic left to have.
22:28Oh!
22:32Come on!
22:34Come on!
22:37Come on!
22:40Marnie Osami's leash tonight has to be just as long as Red Shoes Uno's.
22:45And for good reason.
22:47For all we've seen so far, Chris.
22:49Party time's over, Walker.
22:53Come on!
22:55Oh!
22:58Come on!
23:02Ah!
23:07Fun time's done.
23:11And Desperado to put it away.
23:14Oh!
23:15Mau!
23:16Mau!
23:17Mau!
23:18No!
23:19Oh, that was incredible!
23:24Mau off the rebound.
23:26Caught in!
23:27Despy drops!
23:28Despy drops and Mau's not done!
23:30Oh!
23:32Landed in the red card!
23:34Oh, no!
23:35Despy's out!
23:37And we could go all night at this rate.
23:41Desperado on the cover.
23:42Mau slips out underneath.
23:45Ah!
23:47There is a delight in the absurd.
23:50There's a defiance in the absolute.
23:52And Mau just rocks.
23:56Desperado.
23:59Desperado.
24:00Desperado.
24:01Desperado.
24:02Desperado.
24:03Desperado.
24:04Desperado.
24:05Desperado.
24:06Desperado.
24:07Desperado.
24:08Desperado.
24:09Desperado rocks.
24:11Desperado.
24:14Left to defiance against the champion.
24:39Spear!
24:44Before the blade could be drawn, a spear through the guts.
24:47And this time, Desperado.
24:50Reverse tiger.
24:59And now to close it out.
25:01Pinche loco.
25:10Oh!
25:12Holy hell!
25:13Holy hell!
25:14Mau just kicked out of Pinche Loco.
25:19You see in this workshop every bit of the man that Mau is,
25:24the athlete that Mau is.
25:28And you might have been thinking,
25:30this guy's off his rocker.
25:32He might be crazy like someone who beat the champion.
25:35Oh, maybe not.
25:40Oh!
25:53And still walking.
25:58Doing all he can to hold on is Mau.
26:10Now struggling for control here on the underneath of it.
26:14And now Desperado has to capture that other arm,
26:18cinching Pinche Loco.
26:20Call it a day.
26:22Can't lace the fingers.
26:24Now trying to wiggle himself free.
26:27Doing all he can.
26:29Perhaps to delay the inevitable.
26:32Desperado's got it!
26:34Pinche Loco!
26:40Come on, guys!
26:41One, two, three!
26:4823 minutes and 31 seconds.
26:52El Desperado wins!
26:56It started out loco and it caught Pinche Loco pretty damn quickly.
27:02I was going to say, to save myself loco,
27:05the opening bled.
27:10That match took you through almost every single corner imaginable,
27:14and then some.
27:18It had the defiance of DDT.
27:21It had the dramatic of DDT,
27:24and that's courtesy of Mau.
27:27With a strong style and spearing in the end,
27:29victorious in the hands of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion,
27:35New Japan Pro-Wrestling's El Desperado.
27:38And the winner is,
27:40El Desperado.
27:55El Desperado.
27:56It certainly had the dramatic,
27:58but Mau's dream not coming true.
28:25Damn it.
28:29New Japan fans,
28:31they're going to take me.
28:33Damn it.
28:34Mau's just won the hearts of a bunch of New Japan fans.
28:38It was awesome.
28:40It was fun.
28:42Mau-chan,
28:43thank you.
28:45Thank you to Mau.
29:03I'm not a superstar.
29:05They won't get me that easily.
29:08DDT,
29:10thank you.
29:12It was not easy.
29:14I still have a long way to go.
29:16Thank you to DDT.
29:19I had a lot of fun,
29:21but Mau-chan is over.
29:24Deep in this tournament, there is a long way to go,
29:27but this match that I was looking forward to is now behind us.
29:33I'm worried about New Japan's junior heavyweights.
29:39I think you have to.
29:41If you are a New Japan pro-wrestling junior heavyweight wrestler,
29:45you have to be worried about the cult of personality that Mao has.
29:50But that's why I think it's worth coming here.
29:55And this means...
29:57I love the super junior heavyweights the most.
30:03This tour is the most fun I've had in a year.
30:07I'm doing my best, and I'm going to beat all the other wrestlers.
30:13I'm going to beat all the other wrestlers.
30:18But I won't let the juniors beat the heavyweights.
30:22And that is something you will never ever get in the heavyweight ranks.
30:26And it's a place where only the juniors will thrive.
30:30People are talking about the age gap, the career gap, and so on.
30:37It's been a while since I've been in the belt.
30:41But people are still talking about it, even though I didn't say anything.
30:45Get out of my way.
30:47Get out of my way.
30:48It is other people that say it takes a long time.
30:52Get out of my way.
30:53It took me a long time to get to that belt.
30:55That's not what I'm saying. I want other people to...
31:00I want that new generation. I want the hyper new generation...
31:05to try and knock me off my post right now.
31:15It's not wrong, Walker.
31:17This is the kind of match you only get in Best of the Super Juniors.
31:23This is the kind of night you only get in Best of the Super Juniors.
31:26You're right about it.
31:29You know what? We're going to see a lot of incredible action coming up.
31:32Dominion, G1 Climax, 35, so on and so forth.
31:36There is nothing like junior heavyweight tournament action.
31:40Best of the Super Junior 32 already has been won for the ages.
31:44We're going to keep the train rolling.
31:46Night five into night six, coming up 24 hours from now.
31:50The junior heavyweight champion meets an old foe in show in block B competition.
31:55We're going to see what Desperado is all about.
31:57When he faces off against show, not in a steel cage,
32:00rather one-on-one in regular singles action.
32:03That's going to be another one that bends the framework, I'm sure,
32:07of what a typical Best of the Super Junior contest will be.
32:13And while we're going to be waiting around for El Desperado
32:15and further post-match comments,
32:16I mean, what a night of action.
32:18Ten matches, top to bottom,
32:20and it is going to happen all over again in Hachioji.
32:24We are still here in Tokyo.
32:25We are going to be making our way 24 hours from now to Esporte Arena.
32:30Hachioji barely took it.
32:31Well, you know.
32:32We're going to be up in the mountains.
32:33Well, I like the mountains.
32:35Hiking Mount Takao all the way back down.
32:37You know, me, Torayano in the mountains with the bears,
32:40that's just how it works.
32:42It's an old joke, isn't it?
32:43Well, Hiromi Takahashi knows all about Hachioji.
32:47We're up there.
32:48And, well, having his third loss in a row,
32:52Walker, and having to take on Clark Connors in the main event.
32:55You know, it's almost a...
32:57It's not a guaranteed elimination,
32:59but it's about as close as you're going to get
33:00without facing the complete risk.
33:03But, God, what the risk that is going to come
33:05when you face off against a monster like Clark Connors.
33:08He's not had the full dominance that Connors or...
33:10I didn't expect him to bring me a plastic case in the main event.
33:16I told you it was nothing.
33:18I didn't know that Mau would have brought those plastic boxes.
33:22I can smell blood from the bottom of my pants.
33:25Who's in there?
33:27Again?
33:28I'm not feeling any blood, but I can't smell it.
33:31It's not blood.
33:32I guess that I'm busted open once again.
33:35Mau, next.
33:36I'll do it in your backyard.
33:38Next time, maybe we can do it.
33:43In your home, you have made the point of coming here
33:55and making something happen for yourself.
33:58Making a car with no engine into a car with an engine.
34:02I didn't expect that.
34:05But, as I said in the ring, this is what makes BEST OF THE SUPER JUNIORS special.
34:15There are a lot of people like Ishimori who come at me with great techniques.
34:21There are a lot of people like Mau who come at me with great ideas.
34:29You can have so many different approaches, so many different ideas,
34:33so many different attitudes towards professional wrestling all in one tournament.
34:39At the point of that, and my ability to deal with that means,
34:42El Desperado says that means him the favorite to win this tournament.
34:46Well, El Desperado is not looking as pretty as some of his contemporaries
34:50in the points department.
34:51However, it is Ryusuke Tsuguchi sitting at six points.
34:55Tsuguchi at six, Titan at six, Nick Wayne at six.
34:59Three at six, and then you've got that Lockjam, Mau, Sho, Robby Eagles,
35:05and El Desperado at four, Yoh and Kevin Knight, Taiji Ishimori at two.
35:10And, yeah, really, I would say at this point,
35:15if you're one and three, it looks a little bit hard.
35:17And if you have another loss, that's very difficult.
35:19You want to be at least four points, in my opinion, coming out tomorrow.
35:23You know, who could have imagined going into, at this point in the tournament,
35:26Ryusuke Tsuguchi, one of the men leading the pack in 2025.
35:29Big match, Tsuguchi coming out in Best of the Super Junior 32.
35:33The T in the THE in Best of the Super Juniors stands for Tsuguchi.
35:37Yeah, I think that's a little loose for Tsuguchi,
35:39but that's, loose is the name of the game for that man, isn't it?
35:43And, surely, there you go.
35:44Block A competition, four points for Kushida.
35:48Two top point scorers right now at six points.
35:50Yeah, I mean, the real surprise.
35:52I was ready to button it up.
35:53Okay, still Kosei Fujita alone at the top of the table on six.
35:56A big lockdown at four.
35:58No, Dragon Dyer upsetting Hiromu tonight.
36:01So you got Fujita and Dragon Dyer at six,
36:04and then a lot at four.
36:05Kanemaru, Robbie X, Clark Connors, Francesco, Akira,
36:08Master Wato and Kushida, all at four points.
36:11Ninja Mac and Hiromu right at the bottom of the table at two.
36:16And, yeah, that is a hard, hard ask to come back from,
36:20from Hiromu Takahashi.
36:22You know, I got to say for Dragon Dyer's sake,
36:24I mean, what a meteoric attempt so far in Best of the Super Junior
36:28to go from a last-minute replacement in Best of the Super Junior 31,
36:32winning over not only the hearts of the fans,
36:33but hearts of management,
36:35to be invited back for Super Junior Tag League,
36:37to be here for Best of the Super Junior 32.
36:39Dragon Dyer has really shown out and did so here tonight
36:42for Hiromu Takahashi,
36:44but it's interesting to see what's going to happen tomorrow
36:46in Hiromu's hometown of Hachioji,
36:48bottom of the entire tournament right now.
36:51Is Hiromu Takahashi?
36:53We're going to see what that man can do against Clark Connors in Hachioji.
36:55Any final thoughts, Chris?
36:57Yeah, I mean, it's exhausting and it's exhilarating
37:01all at the same time.
37:02You know, this is, you know,
37:03I just called 30 matches in the last three days.
37:06Right.
37:07There's still ten more to go,
37:08and you still keep on wanting more
37:10because everywhere you turn,
37:12there's something different and something special.
37:14I'm sure Mau and Desperado will divide the wrestling crowd
37:18roughly down the middle,
37:19and that's exactly the sort of atmosphere that we want to have.
37:22Yeah, I mean, how about Kushida and Fujita tonight, man?
37:25I mean, that was something so special in and of itself.
37:27You know, we talked about this being an event of, you know,
37:30every single style of professional wrestling you could hope for.
37:33You had your grappling with Kosei Fujita and Kushida.
37:36I really love Kosei Fujita really challenging Kushida in his own game,
37:38even knowing, oh, Kushida's probably going to be
37:40the more superior out of the two,
37:42and that is what we saw out of Kushida here tonight.
37:44Folks, we are wrapping up here.
