00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Derek Houston Betts and congratulations, we've made it to the weekend.
00:05This is not just any weekend, however, because it's going to see the start of the second of Manchester's great running events within a few months.
00:12The Great Manchester Run is taking place this Saturday 17th May and Sunday 18th May and here is everything that you need to know.
00:19Now the AJ Bell Junior and Mini Great Manchester Run kicks off on Saturday with younger runners taking on the challenge.
00:24Kids aged between 3 and 8 will have a 1.6km dash to attack, while children aged between 9 and 15 will be running 2.5km.
00:33This is happening at the Etihad campus and there'll be a few of the stars from hit show Gladiators there as official race starters too.
00:391,500 kids are expected to take on the challenge with the run starting at 10am so it's absolutely worth getting down there and showing them some support.
00:47On Sunday the main event gets started at 10 past 8 in the morning and it's set to be a party from start to finish.
00:53Runners will be plodding along to a brilliant soundtrack of high energy tunes with live music and entertainment zones dotted all the way along the route.
01:02This is said to be the biggest run in a decade with 35,000 people participating and many contributing to the millions that's been raised for charities.
01:11Hundreds of thousands of people will be lining the streets to show support and if you can make it down in person please do.
01:17It will be a great opportunity to show some support but if you can't you can watch the event live on BBC 2 between 11am and 1pm.
01:23The route sees both the 10k and 12 races start on Portland Street and will finish on Deansgate.
01:29Runners will be going via Old Trafford and Salford Quays before circling back.
01:32The half marathon route is going to see runners take a detour to the Etihad Stadium before rejoining the 10k route for the last stretch.
01:38Let us know if you're participating or going down to watch and support and follow Manchester World for more.
01:44We'll see you again soon.
