00:03what's the mental prep that you need to do before you tackle it?

00:06First of all, I have to tell you, it is years, decades, to be able to prepare for something.

00:11Because I've been flying airplanes and studying aerial photography for decades.

00:16Even before I was, you know, after I made mission, after I made Top Gun, the very first Top Gun.

00:23It's sort of funny, isn't it?

00:24Everything I kind of look at, I'm going, okay, when I'm shooting something, I learn a little bit,

00:28and then I keep trying to expand on that knowledge.

00:31So aerial sequence all the way back to 40 years ago, and now I fly aerobatic air phones,

00:37I fly aerobatic jets, helicopters, I fly everything, wings.

00:42So what I do is I'm learning these skills, and then I'm applying it to cinema.

00:46So it's also just understanding the aircraft, the camera, what kind of cameras can we have?

00:52How's the aircraft going to behave with that camera?

00:54How am I going to create a lot of motion in space that will create an emotional reaction with the audience?
