00:05kicked off earlier today in the megacity with little fanfare and frills in 32 Kadiwa outlets.

00:13And the lucky patrons from the preferred sectors felt great relief from the cost

00:17and even greater surprise from the green quality.

00:25The Department of Agriculture prepared a simple treat for consumers

00:31for the formal launching of the Bente Bigas Merona program in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

00:37According to Elenita, she doesn't need to mix NFA rice with premium rice.

00:55She says that the affordable rice is a huge help for senior citizens like her.

01:26Ninety socks of rice have been prepared for the formal launch of the program.

01:29The Agriculture Department allocated 248,000 bags of NFA rice stocks in Metro Manila

01:35for the Bente Bigas Merona program.

01:38There are 32 kadiwa sites selling 20 pesos rice in Metro Manila and nearby provinces,

01:43while 35,000 socks have been delivered to Cebu.

01:46The DA aims to expand the sale of 20 pesos per kilo rice to 50 to 55 kadiwa sites by June

01:52in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.

01:55This month is a Phase 1 of the program, while Phase 2 will roll out in July for area expansion,

02:02including some regions in Mindanao.

02:10at maybe some parts of Musayas and Lison.

02:19Phase 3 is targeted to begin in September.

02:23The DA is coordinating with the Tupal Program of the Department of Labor and Employment

02:27to provide additional one power to meet the expected high demand

02:30during the expansion of the Bente Bigas Merona program.

02:34Members of the vulnerable sectors can avail up to 30 kilos per month,

02:38including four peace beneficiaries, senior citizen, person with disability, and solo parents.

02:44The DA assures there is enough rice to meet the demand.
