During a press briefing on Wednesday, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) was asked about Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) pushing articles of impeachment against President Trump.
00:00Thank you. I just wanted to follow up on the Congressman Tanadar impeachment articles.
00:05This morning he admitted that some members of his party strongly disagree with him,
00:10and he kind of said, I'm moving forward anyway because I think that it's always the right time to do the right thing,
00:17regardless of what members of my party think.
00:19So what would you say to the fact that he's pretty much admitting,
00:24I know my party doesn't want me to do this and I'm doing it anyway?
00:27I'll keep the conversations that I have with members, you know, between members.
00:33Many of us have made our positions known.
00:36Like I said, this is such an impactful moment.
00:39When our colleagues are locking themselves in a room for 24 hours to protect and defend health care for their constituents,
00:51we should be talking about uplifting that hard work.
00:55We shouldn't be talking about this proposal that is not right and not timely.
01:05That's what is most important.
01:08Impeachment is a tool.
01:08Like I said before, this president is no stranger to impeachments.
01:12He's been impeached twice.
01:14Impeachment is a tool that can be used, but it takes weeks and months to do.
01:20Right now, the issue of the day is will for Republicans to stand up and support health care in this country for their constituents.
01:30That is a fundamental issue.
01:31Everything else is just a distraction.
01:35And we're seeing that play out in real time in the Energy and Commerce Committee.
01:38And we will see that again as this bill goes to the Rules Committee and comes to the House floor.
01:43That's what House Democrats are focused on fighting for.
01:48And I understand, as we've said before, it is a broad mosaic of opinions within the House Democratic caucus that the Vice Chair and I get an opportunity to lead.
