It currently has more than 1,500 on the road

00:00Waymo, the self-driving vehicle arm of Alphabet, is being forced to take more than 1,200 cars
00:05off the road. The recall is due to a necessary software update and to address potential accident
00:09risks with roadway barriers like gates and chains. In a report filed to the National Highway Traffic
00:15Safety Administration, Waymo said it was aware of 16 collisions between 2022 and 2024.
00:21NHTSA then opened an investigation after there were reports that Waymo's robo-taxis exhibited
00:25potentially dangerous driving behavior. That investigation is ongoing, with the agency
00:30saying some accidents involved collisions with clearly visible objects that a competent driver
00:35would be expected to avoid. This isn't the first time Waymo has faced a recall. In February of 2024,
00:41it recalled 444 self-driving vehicles due to a software issue, and then recalled 670 more just
00:47three months later after a vehicle struck a utility pole. Waymo currently has more than 1,500 self-driving
00:53vehicles in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Austin. That'll do it for your daily briefing
00:58from New York City. I'm Kelsey Barbario with The Street.
