With summer fast approaching, we asked Leeds locals about their initial plans and for any holiday booking tips.

00:00Going on my first holiday for the first time in about 14 years to Slovenia with some friends,

00:07so really looking forward to that. I don't like it when it's too hot, so I'm hoping it won't be too

00:13hot. I'll be useless if it is, but otherwise, yeah, looking forward to that, looking forward

00:17to the summer. It's always welcome after a long winter. Being a student, it's quite difficult to

00:21organise with money, but I feel like we always end up organising something about two weeks before

00:26we go. We look on cheap flights and try and get something sorted, then it's just a quick rush,

00:30pack, and then, yeah, off to the airport before we know it.

00:33I've not really planned anything this year. I usually tend to go to Barcelona, Spain. I think

00:39there's a potential for me to go to South Africa at some point. Could be the next couple of

00:44months, few months, depending on my work situation. But I generally don't, I'm not a good planner.

00:50I don't like to plan ahead too, too far. The only thing I will do is book my ticket. Then

00:54everything else is more close to the day. I look at Airbnbs.

00:56Yeah, you're very filled with the flowy. Yeah, yeah, exactly. I'm a very chill guy,

01:02you know, I don't like to stress myself out beforehand.

01:04Packing maybe within the week, within the week we go. And I'd like to go...

01:09I want to go to South East Asia. Okay. Yeah. I want to go to Ibiza.

01:14My partner is in teaching, so she gets a long holiday off, which is nice. We were originally

01:20planning on going to Berlin. I think that plan has maybe gone out the window a little bit

01:24right now, but I'm not too sure. I'm hoping it's going to be a nice summer here anyway,

01:27if I don't go abroad. But yeah, obviously planning a holiday now versus planning a holiday sort

01:34of five, ten years ago is very different. Everything is now online. I think that's good,

01:39because it's convenient, but it's also I think that convenience is maybe taking a little bit

01:43of control out of it, you know, and we're seeing as well a lot of sort of travel agencies and

01:47things shut down, which is, you know, that's jobs people are losing. I think that move movement

01:52towards entirely digital is in some cases not been a positive, you know, in case you lose

01:58your ticket or anything like that. Currently, I'm looking for a job. If I got a job

02:01got an offer, definitely I will fly from Leeds to like, you know, Greece, maybe Italy, but

02:08it depends. But summer is great. Summer in the UK is great, but I also travel around.

02:13And maybe a lot of people will go like South, South France is also a good destination. Maybe

02:18I also go again. I'm not leaving the country this summer just because I've just finished

02:22my degree or I will have just finished my degree. And so my focus is more on finding a

02:27job before I start booking holidays. But how I tend to book holidays is normally on credit

02:34because I can't afford them outright. And I think that's kind of the case for a lot of

02:37people. A ticket that you may be looking at, maybe like a flight to I don't know, say Italy

02:43or something that you're looking at, you could go on three other different sites have the

02:46exact same ticket, the exact same like plane, and it's like 20 or 30, 40 pounds cheaper.

02:52So comparison. Yeah, yeah. Comparison sites do your due diligence so that you can get it

02:58as cheap as possible.
