00:00may be the biggest surprise thus far of the NBA playoffs as the New York Knicks are on the verge
00:05of eliminating the Boston Celtics. They're up 3-1 in their best of seven series after getting a win
00:10at Madison Square Garden last night, trailing by 10 at one point. They come all the way back to win
00:15121 to 113. The story once again was the second half of the Knicks, and it was once again Jalen
00:22Brunson, who had 39 points and 12 assists. He also had 18 points in the third quarter. It's been
00:29blowing leads for the Celtics. That's really been their story, and we'll see if the Knicks can
00:34indeed close it out as they head back to Boston later this week. But first, let's hear from Jalen
00:39Brunson, who still is not taking the Celtics lightly. It's easier said than done, but
00:49the one thing I have to do is respect my opponent, knowing that it's not going to be easy. No, it's
00:57going to be tough. And knowing that, I could get got. But I'm not going to be afraid to do so. I'm
01:03going to go out there and just give it everything I got and put myself and my team the best chance
01:10to win a game. And it's as simple as that.
01:16Yeah, just got to find a way. Whoever's out there, whatever it takes, and just find a way. So
01:23yeah, find a way. And not like we planned to be in a position, but we are where we are, and
01:32got to find a way to win Game 5.
01:34And the Celtics have had a lot of adversity in the past and have come back to win series,
01:40but they may have to do it without their superstar, Jason Tatum, who had 42 points last night before
01:46leaving the game with a non-contact lower leg injury. No word as of yet this morning as to
01:53Tatum's status, but seemingly very much up in the air, pending an MRI, according to head coach Joe
01:59Mazzula.
02:00No, not yet. I know it's a lower body injury. He's going to get an MRI tomorrow. He's with
02:04the doctors now.
02:07Did they do any tests on the side of my killings?
02:10I didn't ask him. I just got the update from him. I just asked him how he was doing. So
02:14get the MRI tomorrow and, you know, we'll see what it is.
02:17How concerned is that for you guys right now?
02:20Yeah, I mean, obviously always concerned about someone's health. So, you know, it's twofold.
02:24We're concerned about his health, where he's at, and then we're concerned about what we have
02:28to do better for game five when we get back to Boston.
02:32Duke.
02:32Joe, was it the Achilles or was it the ankle itself? It was in contact? Because there was
02:38some contact.
02:39I have no idea. I got back there, talked to the medical staff. They told me it's a lower
02:44body injury, and they're going to get an MRI tomorrow. So, you know, we'll see where it
02:48goes from there.
02:50And we'll get an update, I'm sure, in the coming hours on the status of Tatum. Meanwhile,
02:53the status of the Minnesota Timberwolves appears to be on the verge of moving on to the Western
02:58Conference Finals. They take care of business last night against the Warriors, 117-110. Golden
03:05State still playing without Steph Curry, and it clearly is the difference. Anthony Edwards,
03:09Julius Randle had 30 points apiece. Randle has been fantastic for Minnesota in the playoffs.
03:16The Warriors needed Jimmy Butler to come up in a big way. He had just 14 points last night. It was
03:21close until late in the third, and then Minnesota pulled away. Here's Anthony Edwards on the verge
03:28of getting to the Western Conference Finals with one more win.
03:33At halftime, coach came in and just said, we're playing like we already won the series,
03:38pretty much, and I don't really like that. I didn't like how we was playing overall,
03:44and I didn't like how I was playing individually, so I knew I had to pick it up.
03:47What had to change the most, or what did you change?
03:49Our defense. We was letting Jonathan Kamingo just get everywhere he wanted to go.
03:54Draymond was pushing the pace. We wasn't impacting the ball unless he was crossing
03:57half court. Offensive rebounds, we wasn't boxing out. We wasn't limiting those guys
04:03to one shot. Just game plan mistakes that can't happen if you want to be the
04:06championship team, and if you want to go to the finals, or Western Conference Finals,
04:10at least you can't. You can't let those things happen, so we've got to be better.
04:13Well, Ant got going, and we decided to go to a bigger lineup with J.K. and Trace,
04:26Draymond, Jimmy, just to try to slow them down and slow Ant down, and obviously it didn't work.
04:35They kept scoring, and we couldn't score, so we just lost our ability to connect the game
04:41there in that third quarter, and they got loose, and that was the difference in the game.
04:46The biggest surprise of the night in the NBA wasn't actually on the court. It was the NBA lottery.
04:52The Dallas Mavericks, with just a 1.8% chance of landing the number one overall pick,
04:57they get it done, and so they now have the opportunity, if they choose, to take the number
05:01one ranked prospect coming out of college into the NBA. That is Duke's Cooper flag, so the Mavericks,
05:08of course, trading Luka Doncic, and now seemingly could have a replacement pretty quickly for him,
05:13which we'll talk about a little bit later in the show. All right, on the ice, the Hurricanes beat
05:17the Capitals last night 5-2, so they're now up 3-1 in the series. They were very heavily favored to do
05:23so. One-score game with five minutes to go. Hurricanes scored two goals late to push ahead for the win.
05:28Earlier in the game, Washington had a four-minute power play, but they only got one shot off,
05:33which could have been the difference of the game. Here's Spencer Carberry, the head coach of the
05:37Capitals, knowing what they're up against.
05:40We're giving ourselves some opportunities. We're just not executing, making the play,
05:47whatever you want to call it, and making some mistakes, and they're capitalizing.
05:51The Taylor Hall's goal, I don't know if you have a chance to watch that back.
05:59Yeah, I did.
06:00How is he that open at that point? Did he just not back-check and kind of...
06:04Yeah, both our D lost basically track of that there was a guy in behind,
06:10so our four-check and failed four-check, and then both D are down.
06:16Spencer, what did you make of the four-minute power play at the end of the first?
06:19How difficult it was to enter the zone, and how key was it to not come up with a...
06:24Well, I saw what everybody else in the room saw. It was not good, and so we made some adjustments,
06:31made some changes to personnel on it, but you can't...
06:34Their penalty kill is excellent, as the league has been for the last, whatever, five years, call it.
06:41But it can't look like that. It cannot look like that.
06:44Meanwhile, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are also one step away from moving on
06:50in their Western Conference series with the Vegas Golden Knights, 3-0 to go up 3-1.
06:56They pitch a shutout as Edmonton is on the verge of doing what they did a year ago.
07:01Meanwhile, in the National Football League, today is scheduled release day.
07:05Some leaks coming out right now in the NFL.
07:07We already know that the opener is going to be Cowboys at Eagles on Thursday, September the 4th.
07:13Some games have been added to the leaked schedule.
07:16November the 10th, Monday Night Football, Eagles-Packers.
07:20Seems like the Eagles schedule's out. Bears, Eagles, Eagles, Commanders.
07:22We'll get all of it tonight, and then we'll break it down for you tomorrow.
07:25Meanwhile, Trey Hendrickson says Bengals have cut off contract talks.
07:27He wants to stay long-term in Cincinnati, but they have not been able to work that out.
07:32And also, Cleveland Browns' Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoa has been placed on the Physically Unable 2 playlist,
07:39and he could be out for the season for the Cleveland Browns.
07:42All right, in Major League Baseball last night, the New York Mets take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
07:47How did you think this one was going to go?
07:48Well, the Mets win, and they did not beat Paul Skeens, but they did win the game.
07:524-3 was the final.
07:53Pete Alonso hit a walk-off sack fly in the ninth inning.
07:56Meanwhile, the Nationals are struggling in a big way.
07:58They've lost six in a row.
07:59Alex Verdugo for the Braves' walk-off signal to propel them over a win over the Nationals.
08:06By the way, Ronald Acuna Jr. begins his rehab assignment today so they can get him back over the next few weeks.
08:10Taylor Ward hit a grand slam.
08:12Six in the ninth inning, the Angels come all the way back to beat the Padres 9-5.
08:17They beat Robert Suarez.
08:18He had converted 18 consecutive save opportunities.
08:21And the hottest team in the baseball right now are the St. Louis Cardinals.
08:25Mason Wynn hits a late home run.
08:26The Cardinals beat the Phillies 3-2.
08:28The Cards have won nine straight games.
