Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) voiced his opposition to increasing the deficit.
Transcript
00:00I've always favored a multi-step approach to provide the border funding, defense funding.
00:05I would extend the current tax cut. I want to take a massive automatic tax increase off the table, but
00:12without returning to a reasonable pre-pandemic level of spending, I don't see any way I can
00:18support more tax cuts and more deficit spending. We should not be increasing deficit.
00:24Would you need to see $5 trillion spending cuts if it's a permanent tax?
00:30I've been saying we need to return to a reasonable pre-pandemic level of spending.
00:33I've laid out a number of options for doing it, going back to previous outlets under Clinton,
00:38Obama, or Trump, growing yields by population and inflation, somewhere between $5.5 to $6.5
00:45trillion in spending without touching Social Security, Medicare, or interest. So it's entirely
00:50possible to do. You have to do the work to do it, and I'm not seeing anybody really willing
00:54to do the work.
00:55Senator, do you make concerns about this plan?
