During a teletownhall on Monday, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) was asked about President Trump's willingness to go to war.
Transcript
00:00You know, and then, but a question I have is, do you think Trump is actually trying to do anything to get us out of these ridiculous wars?
00:13He seems to be.
00:18There's a lot to unpack there.
00:19So let me first talk about the war situation.
00:22I think of any president in my lifetime, President Trump is least likely to get us involved in any kind of long-term engagement.
00:29At the same time, as you'll see what he did with Iran, he's going to do everything he can to keep America safe and simply will not tolerate, for example, the largest state sponsor of terror having a nuclear weapon.
00:42So the example I use in terms of his peacemaking proclivity is in his first term, I ran down one of our drones, and everybody was being the drum of war.
00:53You've got to retaliate, and really the 12th hour President Trump, I thought, asked the relevant questions.
00:58First of all, I said, well, how much did that drone cost?
01:01That was a couple million bucks.
01:02And so how many people are going to die in our retaliation?
01:05And the estimate was a few hundred.
01:08I think President Trump made the correct calculation going, eh, that's not worth it.
01:13I don't want to see that loss of life for something we can easily afford to lose.
01:17Now, Soleimani, he took out the nuclear sites in Iran, he took out.
01:24He retaliated when Bashar Assad used chemical weapons against his people.
01:29So again, he's showing strength, and that's the best way to achieve peace.
