00:00Pope Leo XIV met more than 6,000 journalists and media workers on Monday, just days after he was elected.
00:08This has become a common practice with new popes. It happened with Pope Francis and Pope Benedict.
00:16As he entered the Vatican Auditorium, he received a standing ovation.
00:21He mainly reflected on the importance of using communication as a tool to achieve peace.
00:27Peace. Let us disarm words, the Pope said.
00:30It's important, he added, to strive for a different kind of communication, one that does not seek consensus at all costs, he said.
00:38Does not use aggressive words, does not follow the culture of competition.
00:43Peace begins with each one of us, he said, in the way we look at others, listen to others and speak about others.
00:50In this sense, the way we communicate, the Pope said, is of fundamental importance.
00:55We must say no to the war of words and images.
00:59Pope Leo XIV also expressed solidarity with imprisoned journalists and highlighted the importance of free speech and the press.
