In a quiet village at the jungle's edge lived a brave girl named Amina, known for her fearless spirit and love for animals.

While others played by the river, Amina wandered the forest, listening to birdsong and helping injured creatures.

One misty morning, Amina heard cries from deep within the trees.

Curious and concerned, she followed the sound and found a young gorilla tangled in vines, frightened.

Though many feared gorillas, Amina saw only pain in its eyes.

Don't be scared, she whispered, gently cutting the vines.

The gorilla watched her with wide, intelligent eyes, and when it was free, it didn't run.

Instead, it sat beside her, sensing her kindness.

Amina named him Bantu, and for weeks they met secretly in the jungle.

She brought him fruit.

He brought her rare flowers and protected her from wild animals.

They became the unlikeliest of friends.

But when poachers came to the jungle, everything changed.

Bantu was their target, a prize too valuable to ignore.

She ran to the village and warned everyone.

Amina led the villagers and Bantu deep into the forest to a hidden cave.

When the poachers arrived, they found nothing but empty trees and fading tracks.

The jungle was safe, thanks to Amina's courage.

From that day forward, the villagers no longer feared the forest.

They protected it, just like Amina did.

And though Bantu stayed hidden, he was always near, watching over the girl who had freed him from fear.

And though Bantu came, it was a great village and my mother was never near.
