An elderly man was charged in the Butterworth Sessions Court on Tuesday (May 6) with the murder of his friend last month.   Yee Fatt Seong, 70, nodded after the charge was read to him in Mandarin by the court interpreter before Judge Nor Azah Kasran. 00:20Yee is alleged to have murdered Lu Ataeong, aged 63, at a hut on Jalan Kolam in Cherok Tokkun,

00:27Bukit Murtajam, between 2 p.m. and 3.22 p.m. on April 27. He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for Murder,

00:38which provides for the death penalty, or between 30 and 40 years in jail,

00:42with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Yee, who was unrepresented,

00:50said he understood the contents of the charge sheet after they were read to him in Mandarin,

00:55before Judge Noor Aza Khasran. No plea was recorded from the accused as murder cases are

01:02under the jurisdiction of the High Court. On April 27, a brawl at a hut in Cherok Tokkun

01:09resulted in the death of one man. Investigations found that the victim was chatting with five friends,
