In remarks on the House floor on Wednesday, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) called to overturn the California fish species, longfin smelt, off the endangered species list.

00:00Thank you Mr. Speaker. I rise tonight to speak about the resolution I have to

00:06overturn the listing of the San Francisco Bay Delta population of

00:11Longfin smelt which is being done under the Dangered Species Act. This listing

00:17was not based on sound science. It was forced through by a lawsuit in a court

00:20order kind of the last minute at the end of the Biden administration. Of course not

00:24the way environmental decisions should be made. This is done on the heels of the

00:28regular Delta smelt which for over 30 years has had tens of millions of acre

00:33feet of water shoved out through the Delta to try supposedly to sustain that

00:37Delta smelt to no effect because they've been trawling the area looking for the

00:43fish trying to find the fish and haven't found any since I believe 2017. The

00:48Dangered Species Act has been weaponized for decades to shut down water

00:51deliveries, halt forestry, cripple farming, ranching and mining across the West. By

00:57administration and activist judges that have turned the law into really a

01:01political tool. Fish and Wildlife Service overlap this new listing on top of

01:05Delta smelt regulations that already send valuable water out to the Pacific

01:09Road the Pacific Ocean in droves. Hurts farmers families and every California

01:14supplies on a depends on the supply of water supply. We must stop these

01:18bureaucrats. I yield back.
