During a speech on the House floor Tuesday, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) spoke about Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's decision to pull funding for California's high speed rail project.
Transcript
00:00Thank You Madam Speaker. I heartily applaud Secretary Duffy's decision the
00:06other day to repeal, to rescind the four billion dollars that the federal
00:11government has put in at the end of the Biden administration for high-speed rail
00:15in California. Indeed it has been a clown show. The thing is off the rails
00:19with any kind of goal it was ever going to meet. It was supposed to have been
00:22completed by 2020 and at best it would be completed by 2040-45 with just one
00:28segment between Bakersfield and Merced. Hopefully by 2033 they hope. Instead
00:34let's move that four billion dollars to something useful such as expanding State
00:38Route 99 in California, I-15, I-5, Interstate 395, Interstate 80, or repairs on
00:46roadways designated as farm to market roads, or State Route 152 by raising it a
00:50little bit we'll be able to add more water supply to the San Luis Reservoir or
00:54the bridge over on I-5 over the Shasta Lake that would allow us to raise the
00:58level of that lake and provide more water, much more water for the State of
01:02California in order to grow crops for what people need, bring inflation down on
01:06the food prices by re-channeling money into something useful instead of useless
01:10instead like this clown show that high-speed rail for California's been for
01:1320 years. I yield back.
