‘…Will soon realise’: DG & CEO, FIEO Ajay Sahai explains how India’s trade ban will impact Pak

New Delhi, May 5, 2025 (ANI): While speaking on India’s trade ban on Pakistan, DG & CEO, FIEO Ajay Sahai said that Pakistan will realise a little later how much cost they have to incur. He further said, “Both import and export from third country will not be permitted… we have seen in the past many of the Indian products were routed through UAE and Singapore but now since the third country trade has been banned we will not allow any export to happen from these sources also…Pakistan will realise a little later how much cost they have to incur…”

00:00There is no specific drugs which have been banned. India has not only banned the pharma export,

00:04India has virtually stopped all trade with Pakistan. That includes the direct export from

00:09India, goods under transit, and goods which were being routed through the third country.

00:13And that's across the sector. We have given very clear message that looking into the Stardy

00:18Act of Pakistan involvement in Pailangan, we are not interested in any trade in Pakistan.

00:23Sir, this is about the import and export and everything, and third countries are also involved?

00:29Yes, absolutely. Both the import and export from the third country will not be permitted.

00:34We have seen in the past that many of the Indian products were routed through UAE and Singapore.

00:40But now since the third country trade has been banned, we will not allow any export to happen

00:44from these sources also.

00:46Sir, can you describe a little about the pharma products which have been banned,

00:50either the vaccines or what else it includes? Sir, what kind of drugs it includes?

00:53In fact, if you look into the past when Pakistan stopped trade with India, subsequently they

00:59realized they can't live without Indian pharma and they have given relaxation to the pharma.

01:04This time also they have said no export or import from India. India has also said we will not

01:09have any trade dealing with the US. And they have stopped virtually all the products. So it

01:14involved bug drugs, it involved vaccine, it involved medical and diagnostic equipment.

01:18Probably Pakistan will realize little later how much cost they have to incur. They are already

01:23short of the foreign exchange reserve. And Indian pharma has been the most competitive among

01:28all the products which we are exporting to Pakistan. If they have to get these kinds of drugs from

01:34European Union, probably the cost will vary between 400% to 1000%. It will be a huge hit on the pocket

01:41of the consumer in Pakistan. And probably Pakistan will realize it very shortly.

01:46Sir, as you have banned the day before yesterday, the notification has also circulated. There were

01:53import and export of other goods as well? Yeah. In fact, we have virtually stopped all

01:57trade. So it is not allowed in respect of pharma generally on the humanitarian grounds we allow

02:03pharma export. But look into the kind of act which has been perpetuated by Pakistan. We have

02:08virtually stopped all trade with Pakistan. And it is across products. It is across all the

02:13services and the products as well.
