00:00Next up here in Las Vegas
00:01Yuri Foreman fighting for the
00:02first time since tearing up his
00:04right knee in his title bout
00:05with Miguel Cotto last June.
00:07Foreman lost his belt that night
00:09at Yankee Stadium but won the
00:11respect of the entire boxing
00:12world.
00:12He'll take on a fighter with a
00:13completely different style.
00:15The hard charging Pavel
00:16Volokh the New Jersey and Pavel
00:23Volokh by way of Poland ready
00:26for the biggest fight of his
00:27career.
00:28A win can fold him into world
00:29title contention as a late
00:31replacement for Julio Cesar
00:33Chavez Jr. came off the canvas to
00:35stop Jose Pinzon in a gritty
00:37comeback win.
00:38And Antonio Volokh's training
00:40team should certainly know how to
00:42beat Yuri Foreman because they
00:43used to be Foreman's training
00:45team.
00:45Yeah and Foreman's biggest fight
00:47with Miguel Cotto he was working
00:49with Aras, Chris, Darian Antola
00:53which was his cut man and the
00:54great Tommy Brooks and they've
00:56all switched sides now to Volokh.
00:58So you know it's kind of strange.
01:00They know him well and they say
01:02they mapped out a game plan to be
01:03victorious tonight.
01:04We'll see Steve.
01:06Volokh a crowd pleasing fighter in
01:09his Vegas debut who truly lives up to
01:11his nickname the Raging Bull.
01:13the Raging Bull.
01:14Not original but it fits.
01:15Al, keys to victory.
01:17For Pavel Wolokh, he's got to move his
01:20head.
01:21He comes in, he's a relentless
01:22attacker but unless he moves his head
01:24Yuri Foreman is going to pick him
01:25apart with counter punches.
01:26He's got to get on the inside, fight
01:28right off the chest of Yuri Foreman
01:31which can be hard to do in this big
01:32ring and then once he's there he's got
01:34to be not just busy but very busy and
01:36throw a huge volume of punches.
01:38And a construction worker who got six
01:41weeks off to prepare for this fight.
01:48One of the most intriguing stories in
01:51all of boxing.
01:52From Belarus to Israel to Brooklyn,
01:55future Rabbi Yuri Foreman, the first
01:57Orthodox Jewish champion in nearly 70
02:00years since the loss to Miguel Cotto.
02:02He's had reconstructive surgery on his
02:04right knee.
02:07He experienced the birth of his son and
02:11unfortunately the death of his co-manager
02:14and friend.
02:15And Antonio, that's a lot to absorb in
02:18nine months.
02:19Had to be a very emotional stretch.
02:20Yeah, yeah.
02:21But you know what?
02:22It hasn't really killed his spirit.
02:23I mean, he's a very engaging guy.
02:25You know, when I spoke with him in the
02:27fighters meeting, I was surprised, you
02:29know, that he has such an overwhelming
02:31personality.
02:32And like I said, I'm surprised he's not
02:34wearing a knee brace tonight because he
02:36had one on when he fought Cotto.
02:38And, you know, movement is his specialty.
02:41And let's hope his leg holds up tonight.
02:43Yeah, that knee could be really tested
02:45tonight because of Pavel's style.
02:48And the style he's spotting tonight could
02:49be the perfect test for where Foreman is
02:52right now.
02:53With that, Al, let's grab your keys to
02:54victory for Foreman.
02:55Yuri Foreman needs to do something.
02:59For instance, he needs to jab so much I
03:01wrote it three times.
03:02He's got to continue to do it over and
03:03over again.
03:04And movement, can he do it on his knee?
03:06Yeah, again, three times just to make
03:08sure that he does move in this ring.
03:10And it's a big ring, by the way.
03:11And so we'll find out if that knee can
03:13hold up to that.
03:14But he's got to stop from time to time
03:16and throw a right hand.
03:17He's not a power puncher, but he's got
03:19power in that right.
03:20So Yuri Foreman, Yuri, by the way,
03:22translates to George.
03:23Ah.
03:24Yeah.
03:25He looks to bounce back from his first
03:27loss versus Pavel Vola.
03:29Kalic size them up.
03:31We're set to check out the tail of the
03:34tape.
03:35Well, the salient numbers here are the
03:37height and reach of Yuri Foreman.
03:39If ever there was a classic Matador
03:41versus Bull matchup, this is it.
03:43He wants to use the height and reach to
03:45fight from the outside.
03:46And that is what he will attempt to do.
03:48And Volek will try and get inside.
03:50So we are ready for Yuri Foreman versus
03:54Pavel Vola.
03:55Let's get the formal introductions from our
03:56ring announcer Jimmy Leonard Jr.
03:58Well, fans, once again from the MGM Grand
04:04here in Las Vegas, Nevada, Top Rank
04:06Incorporated in association with
04:08Don King Productions, Tecate and Showtime
04:11Pay Per View present a special attraction.
04:14This time we move to the Super Welterweight
04:16Division.
04:17Introducing to you our three judges, all from Las Vegas,
04:22Nevada.
04:23Adelaide Byrd, Robert Hoyle, and Dave Moretti.
04:28And our referee in charge of this bout, Kenny Bayless.
04:34All right, fans, here we go.
04:36Super Welterweight in a special attraction.
04:39Scheduled ten rounds of boxing.
04:42Introducing to you first on my right.
04:44Fighting out of the blue corner, wearing camouflage
04:47trunks.
04:48Fighting out of Ruffaway, New Jersey by way of Poland.
04:52He weighed in at 154 pounds with a fine record of
04:5628 wins and one loss.
04:58He has 18 wins coming by way of knockout.
05:01Currently ranked the WBA number seven Super Welterweight
05:05contender.
05:06Introducing, Pavel, the Raging Bull, Vola.
05:16And his opponent across the ring on my left.
05:19Fighting out of the red corner in this ten-round attraction.
05:22Wearing black trunks and fighting out of Brooklyn, New York.
05:27He weighed in at 155 pounds.
05:30His record stands at 28 wins.
05:32One loss, one no decision.
05:35With eight wins coming by way of knockout.
05:38Ladies and gentlemen, here is the former WBA Super Welterweight champion
05:43of the world known as the Lion of Zion, Yuri Foreman.
05:57Once again, our referee in charge.
05:59Now to give instructions, Kenny Bayless.
06:02Stay back.
06:03Stay back.
06:04Stay back.
06:06Stay back.
06:08Stay back.
06:09Stay back.
06:10Stay back.
06:11Stay back.
06:12Stay back.
06:13Okay.
06:14Okay.
06:15Okay.
06:16Come.
06:17Okay.
06:18Trunks are a little high on both sides.
06:19So punches thrown in the upper area will be considered a clean punch.
06:22Now, gentlemen, we went over the rules in the dressing room.
06:25I want to fight clean.
06:26I want you to protect yourself.
06:27And what I say, you must obey.
06:29Good luck to both of you.
06:30Touch them up.
06:31Don't bleed tonight, Yuri.
06:32You see the height difference immediately noticeable.
06:35A fight with world title implications.
06:37Can the former champ, Yuri Foreman, a relaxed, disciplined boxer,
06:41keep the raging bull off of him?
06:44Wind him up and let him go.
06:46All-action pressure fighter, Pavel Volokh,
06:49who normally comes out with guns blazing.
06:51This is an ultimate clash of styles.
06:54As Alan Antonio pointed out, intriguing matchup.
06:56Super Welterweight scheduled for ten.
06:58Two guys with great fortitude and will.
07:01But their approach is so contrasting.
07:03Will the fight show how tough Yuri Foreman is?
07:06The light hitting but quick-footed Foreman in the black trunks.
07:10The physically strong, tough-minded Wolokh in the camouflage.
07:15Foreman's first fight since the surgery to his right knee.
07:19Free of the brace.
07:20As doctors say, the knee is as strong as before.
07:23We'll see, indeed, if it's put to the test.
07:25And you know, Foreman was cut in training.
07:28And over the, I guess it's the, is it the left eye?
07:31The left eye.
07:32The left eye.
07:33He still has a red area there.
07:34So there's some danger, I think.
07:36No more, bring it down!
07:38Yeah!
07:39Volokh wants and needs to be close to be effective.
07:42Usually gets inside and blasts away.
07:45Foreman making a miss already.
07:47Foreman with a big red welt on his back from a,
07:50from a right hand by Volokh.
07:55Volokh throws in volume.
07:56Never one at a time.
07:57Not an overly heavy-handed puncher.
07:59But he can, he can really drain you, Antonio.
08:01You know what I mean?
08:02Yeah, it's that pressure.
08:03And not only does that pressure wear you down physically,
08:06it wears you down mentally.
08:07And he's been getting close.
08:08He's landed a couple good shots to the body.
08:10So that's where he wants his camp tonight.
08:12Watch your hands.
08:13Watch your hands.
08:14Can Uri keep the charging bull at bay?
08:16Make him move.
08:17Neutralize his stalking aggressiveness.
08:19We shall see.
08:22You hear all that tacophony in the background.
08:27We're in an active corner.
08:28So, boy, it's going crazy over there to our left.
08:31Look out.
08:35Lots of instructions.
08:36Now, this first round,
08:38Pavel Volokh has got to feel good about what's happening here
08:41because he's right on top of you, Foreman, all the time.
08:44Oh, yeah.
08:45And it looks like he wants to count him, which is good.
08:47But like I said, that's where he wanted to pitch camp at tonight.
08:52He did it, baby!
08:53That's Tommy Brooks, you hear, in the background,
08:55the trainer for Volokh, Foreman's former trainer.
08:58Tommy, one of the excellent trainers in boxing.
09:01Foreman has to jab and move,
09:03but he's standing right in front of Volokh.
09:05Dangerous, guys.
09:08He's got a sidestep and counter and work the body
09:11when Volokh leans in.
09:12Throw that uppercut.
09:13Volokh off to a good start.
09:16Stylistically, this is just what he wanted.
09:19And for Yuri Foreman coming off the long layoff,
09:21the issue with the knee, all the rest,
09:23this is not exactly how he wanted it to start.
09:28Oh, big right hand there to the head of Yuri Foreman.
09:31Combination upstairs.
09:32What a start by Volokh!
09:34Look out, look out!
09:35And like you mentioned, Al,
09:36this is a bad fight for a guy
09:38that's coming off reconstructive knee surgery.
09:40And, you know, the last thing you want
09:42is a guy crushing you all night.
09:43Oh, and Volokh won't stop.
09:45He'll still do this for 12 rounds if he has to.
09:47He is fighting with a vengeance right here.
09:49Get a great reaction from the crowd of the MGM Grand.
09:56Great first round for Volokh.
09:58Tough one for Foreman.
09:59Well, Pavel Volokh, when he laid his head down during training to go to sleep, dreamt of this first round.
10:11He's been inside, whacking away at Yuri Foreman.
10:14And he comes in, and Foreman, he hits him with a solid little jab,
10:20gets hit with a good straight right hand by Foreman,
10:23but that doesn't discourage Pavel Volokh.
10:25A relentless attack in the first round by Volokh.
10:27No let-up at all.
10:28A relentless attack in the first round by Volokh.
10:32No let-up at all.
10:33And he's been inside, whacking away at Yuri Foreman.
10:36And he comes in, and Foreman,
10:39he hits him with a solid little jab,
10:41gets hit with a good straight right hand by Foreman,
10:43but that doesn't discourage Pavel Volokh.
10:46A relentless attack in the first round by Volokh.
10:52No let-up at all.
10:54And let's see what happens here from this point forward.
11:01But you're right, Antonio.
11:04What a-this is a real tough fight for Foreman to test that league.
11:07Coming off that difficult situation nine months ago at Yankee Stadium.
11:12Against a guy like Volokh.
11:15But what a difference in the power punches of Volokh,
11:22you know, landing half of his power punches, which is a great percentage.
11:26And a lot of those power punches went to the body,
11:28which would serve him well with the mover, uh,
11:32a mover like Yuri Foreman.
11:34You know, I wrote jab three times for Yuri Foreman.
11:37I don't think he noticed it.
11:39And I wrote move three times.
11:41He's not-he's not reading my keys.
11:43Right.
11:44Well, there's the jab.
11:45I just-I thought you just had seen the king's speech.
11:48Yeah.
11:49Outside shoe!
11:50Outside shoe!
11:51When you made your king?
11:52Yeah.
11:53I've got a stutter in your shoes.
11:54A little subtle humor there.
11:55Yes, indeed.
11:56Not over our heads, though.
11:58Outside shoe inside!
11:59Outside shoe inside!
12:00Outside shoe inside!
12:02Foreman is-is trying now in this round to be a little more active,
12:07at least with his counter-punching.
12:08And, you know, they're worried.
12:10A caution about low blows.
12:12They're very worried in the Foreman corner about, uh,
12:15uh, Valak using his head.
12:17And, uh, he-Foreman kind of jokingly said he uses his head as a pretty good jab.
12:22Yeah.
12:23Get there, your ball!
12:25I'll tell you what, I-in the fighter meeting they said that, uh,
12:29uh, Valak said he was almost close to sparring.
12:32I wonder if they would've ever sparred when we'd be seeing this fight tonight.
12:35Yeah, he was with one-within one round of sparring with Foreman,
12:39then, uh, it didn't happen.
12:41And you're right.
12:42Would we be seeing this fight?
12:43We might not, because he-the-Foreman would've known this style was an issue for him.
12:47Coming up on a minute remaining in round two, scheduled for ten.
12:51Uri Foreman, 28-1 with a no decision with eight knockouts.
12:56Pavel Volak, 28-1 with 18 knockouts.
13:00He won seven in a row, four by KO, since his only loss back in August, 08.
13:05Ooh.
13:06Keep working for him! Keep working!
13:10Keep working!
13:11He-
13:12Both hands to the body!
13:13Both hands to the body!
13:14Both hands to the body!
13:15You gotta be-
13:16Both hands to the body!
13:17But that-
13:18Pull-out just keeps coming on.
13:20Foreman attempts an uppercut.
13:22Oh!
13:23Use the stick coming in!
13:25Hey, look at that!
13:27I know.
13:28It's an active corner.
13:29Where's it down?
13:30You gotta stick my other feet so good.
13:31You get it!
13:32I'm here, officer.
13:33Foreman just doesn't look sharp.
13:35He's struggling here.
13:36Continues to get whacked on the head by Volak.
13:38Make it rough!
13:39Make it rough!
13:40Double up with that body shot down stage!
13:43You continue to hear Tommy Brooks in the background, Volak's trainer.
13:47There's, uh, the non-stop aggression by Volak.
13:50No let-up.
13:51Bangs him off the top of the head at the bell.
13:53Go!
13:54Go!
13:55Go!
13:56Go!
13:57Go!
13:58Go!
13:59Go!
14:00Go!
14:01Go!
14:02Go!
14:03Go!
14:04Go!
14:05Beautiful, man.
14:06Beautiful, man.
14:07You don't have to head-hawk.
14:08Get him in the arms, in the chest.
14:09It's gon' pay off.
14:10Trust what I'm telling you, Paul.
14:11Listen, man.
14:12You throw that left hook to the head, man.
14:13Bring that same left hook back downstairs, man.
14:15When you got an impact, get the outside shoe.
14:17Early in the round, Uri Foreman did have some success with some combination punching.
14:22Ripping the body and then landing that nice right hand to the head and following with the jab.
14:27So that was the best moment he had in this round.
14:30However, for the most part, Volak was very effective in the round.
14:34Now, this punch was a bit low, although it was not too low, but Kenny Bayless giving him a warning on that.
14:41But it was just kind of just under the belt line.
14:49Well, as Uri Foreman is finding out, very tough to keep Volak off of you.
14:53You have to keep the jab at his face to keep him on the outside.
14:56He wants to crowd you and ball you.
14:58That jab is key.
14:59There you go.
15:00There you go.
15:01Uri Foreman talked to us at the fighter meeting about making sure that he had the will, the desire to fight again.
15:08And I'll tell you what, he's gonna find out in this fight, right, Antonio?
15:11Yeah.
15:12Because he's gonna be tested to the limit.
15:13And that test, he's gonna have to pass that test.
15:15And how he's gonna do that, he's gonna have to draw the line tonight.
15:18You know, it's beautiful when you move.
15:20But in order to stop Volak, he's gonna have to hit him with some power shots
15:23and draw the line and really let his hands go.
15:26What a work rate here by Volak.
15:28Hey, move it! Hey, move it!
15:32He's hitting him with everything.
15:33There's a little uppercut on the inside by Foreman.
15:36Which, by the way, is a good punch that Foreman has, and he needs to use it tonight.
15:40And Volak leans in, so it could work.
15:42This has turned into a very entertaining fight
15:45because Foreman has not been able to keep Volak off him.
15:49That was a good counterpunch that Foreman just landed.
15:53Foreman must feel like he's fighting George Armenta.
15:56That was the 2002 brawl that made him decide to adopt a different style.
16:02The more cautious defensive style.
16:04And some have criticized Uri for that style,
16:07but in recent years, he's been, he's made it a little more fan-friendly.
16:11Yeah, I mean, he got in some pretty good right hands on Cotto,
16:14even though Cotto pretty much, you know, landed the hardest shots
16:17and dominated most of the fight.
16:18Yeah, Foreman fought well in that fight,
16:20and many people believe that without the injury, he might have gone 12.
16:23Nice counter right hand by Foreman.
16:25He's now starting to pot-shot Volak a little better as he comes in.
16:29He said he wanted to get more aggressive in the later rounds against Cotto,
16:33but then came the knee injury.
16:37There's a little rat-a-tat-tat to the head by Foreman.
16:43Again.
16:46Chopping right hand by Volak.
16:48And that little right hand has been his most successful weapon.
16:52Oh, he's whacking Foreman now with those punches.
16:55And to the body, to the side, and then upstairs.
16:58Great work here by Volak. Another right hand by Volak.
17:03Well, he said he wanted to get aggressive late,
17:06but he's going to have to get aggressive early.
17:08Very aggressive, Volak.
17:10I've never seen Foreman fight this long on the inside.
17:13It might be fatigue, who knows what it is,
17:15but he's now standing right there with Volak.
17:18He had that tough nine-month stretch since the Cotto fight.
17:21And look where that left hand is.
17:23It's buried right there on his hip.
17:25That's why Volak has had some success with that overhand right.
17:29Right there.
17:30He had the surgery.
17:31He was sitting around a lot after that.
17:33He finally got back into the gym.
17:34Then he had a lot of a...
17:35He was on an emotional roller coaster.
17:37It's been a tough stretch for Foreman.
17:39And you're right.
17:40This may be a tough fight to take on right after that.
17:43Tell you what?
17:44It's producing an exciting fight right now.
17:46We've got some good fireworks.
17:47A little back and forth here.
17:49But that's not the fight for Foreman.
17:53No.
17:57Not the way of Foreman.
17:58Not the way of Foreman.
17:59No.
18:00Ha ha ha!
18:01He hit you right there with you.
18:02He pow, pow, pow, pow, and you don't answer back.
18:03Okay?
18:04Three, four, five, one, two, one, two.
18:06And you don't answer back.
18:07Okay?
18:08You make three, four, five, one, two, one, two.
18:09He bop, bop, bop, bop, and you don't answer back.
18:12Okay?
18:13Three, four, five punches from the nation.
18:15Pedro Saiz in the corner replacing El Cerdo, who is not here to train Foreman.
18:20Now, here's Volek.
18:21He lands that overhand right that Antonio talked about,
18:24which has been so available for him, and there it is again.
18:27Yeah, it's that left hand.
18:29He cannot get it up by his chin.
18:33But Foreman did do some good things, and he's a volume puncher.
18:36You know, the last thing that he wanted to do is fall behind in this fight,
18:39because he's not really a knockout puncher.
18:42He's a volume puncher.
18:49Yeah, Foreman's trainer, Al Soto, didn't make the trip.
18:52He's back home in New Jersey, not feeling well.
18:55Our best to Al for a speedy recovery.
18:57As Al pointed out, Pedro Saiz taking over.
19:01And again, you know, when you look at his corner, you know, you know Soto.
19:05It's a lot of inexperience in that corner.
19:07And for them to take a tough fight like this, and, you know.
19:13Yeah, this is a crossroads fight.
19:15It is.
19:15I mean, he needs the very best in this corner right now,
19:18and the very best seem to be in Volek's corner.
19:21How about the punches?
19:22That's an amazing, amazing amount thrown by Volek,
19:25but that's normal for him, 250.
19:27And boy, is he landing that clubbing right hand over and over again.
19:30And remember, Volek's not a giant puncher,
19:33but when you land as many, you're going to make an impact.
19:35Yeah.
19:36Solid right hand inside by Volek.
19:39You've got to be in amazing condition to fight this guy, Volek.
19:42Oh, now there's Foreman with that good combination.
19:45And this is the fight I was talking about.
19:47He's still getting hit with the right hand
19:48because he has that left hand stuck on his hip,
19:51but he's going to have to draw the line like this
19:53and hurt Volek if he's planning on winning this fight tonight.
19:56And, you know, from the outside,
19:58he's used to having a left hand low,
19:59but you can do it from the outside,
20:00but not from when you're standing in front of somebody.
20:03Volek just fighting hungry.
20:05I mean, he knows Foreman so well from training alongside him
20:10many, many times in the New York area.
20:14And he's showing that he knows Foreman well.
20:16Plus, as we have talked about, documented,
20:18he's working with Foreman's old corner.
20:20What an advantage for Volek.
20:29Kenny Bailish, the third man of the ring.
20:36Volek just continues to chase Foreman around the ring.
20:40Then Foreman rips a couple into the body.
20:42Volek makes Volek miss with the right.
20:47There's a good right hand.
20:48That was probably the snappiest right hand by Foreman all night.
20:53Right hand upstairs by Volek.
20:56Everything's getting in for Volek.
20:57That's the problem.
20:58Well, and Foreman's retaliating,
21:00but, you know, he can't hurt Volek.
21:02This reminds me of fights I used to do in the old, old days,
21:04between Freddie Roach and Tommy Cordova.
21:07Neither man was a big puncher,
21:08so they would stand there for 12 rounds,
21:10or, in this case, 10 rounds,
21:11and just blast away at each other.
21:14And nobody went down.
21:15Who would have ever thought you'd be, you know,
21:17putting Yuri Foreman in the same breath
21:19with Freddie Roach the way they fight, you know?
21:21Or Tommy Cordova, yeah.
21:22You know, just no.
21:24Foreman's showing a lot of heart right now,
21:26and, I mean, he's really, like I said, digging deep.
21:28He's landed some great counterpunches, but it's there.
21:32Wow.
21:33Look at this series of punches,
21:34and that one hurt.
21:36That one hurt Foreman.
21:38And another right hand upstairs by Volek.
21:42This is really difficult for Foreman.
21:45Final seconds.
21:48Boy, Foreman just won't lift his left hand.
21:51It's amazing.
21:55Yuri Foreman is in big trouble.
21:58You know, it's not that Yuri Foreman
22:20isn't landing punches in this fight.
22:22He is, and here's some indication of it.
22:24Where he gets hit,
22:25Foreman lands a good freight train right hand
22:27and a left hook.
22:29They just don't stop Volek,
22:31and he keeps coming,
22:32and then he works on the inside.
22:35He's rough,
22:37and that's a caution for using the head by Kenny Bayless,
22:41but he just comes in and keeps blasting away
22:43with all those combinations.
22:44That was a murderous combination right there,
22:47and it took a lot out of Foreman.
22:51Can Yuri Foreman turn this thing around?
22:55Round five, scheduled for 10.
22:59And, you know, the big right hand has landed.
23:04If there's a punch that's going to turn this around for Foreman,
23:07it's the uppercut.
23:08He's going to have to land some perfect uppercut.
23:09Oh, look at that press roll.
23:14Yeah, Diego Martinez and Kieran Mulvaney and Lance Pugmire all agree,
23:18and I think we do too, that it's a shutout.
23:20Yeah, he's put himself in a hole right now that he's,
23:23I don't know how he's going to fight out of it with this stop.
23:25Look at that right hand.
23:26Oh, Volok just continues to let his hands go.
23:30Constant pressure, just wearing Foreman down.
23:34And if anything that, you know,
23:36Rolak's corner and his team knew is that that left hand is buried low
23:41because he hasn't missed with a right hand tonight.
23:44And I think no one would have expected Foreman to be this stationary a target,
23:48whether it's from the work of Volok
23:50or whether it's he just simply can't move on that knee like he used to.
23:53Well, it doesn't seem like the knee has given him a problem,
23:55but it just seemed like this pressure is really giving him problems.
23:59And most of Volok's punches are so concise because he's so close.
24:08Obviously, Tommy Brooks and the corner men that had worked with Foreman,
24:13they felt that they had a way to get Volok in there.
24:17And maybe part of their tutoring has helped him
24:20figure out how to get inside against Foreman.
24:23Oh, look at this fighting spirit by Pavel Volok.
24:29He's trying to put an end to this fight here in the fifth round.
24:34He's just a pit bull.
24:36Yeah, you love his style.
24:37You know, you love his style.
24:38When you look at his record, I mean, the guy is 28-1 with 18 KOs.
24:42Why would Foreman feel that he needs to take this fight on a comeback fight?
24:49Yeah, it's interesting, especially come now.
24:51There's a nice right hand again by Foreman.
24:54And there's the left uppercut, but it doesn't stop Volok.
24:58Counter right hand by Volok.
25:00You're right.
25:01Foreman did some nice work there.
25:02Yeah, but back came Volok.
25:04This doesn't stop him.
25:05Look at this.
25:08These inside shots, then right off the head.
25:12That's going to disorient you.
25:15When you look at Foreman's corner, they have to be telling him to keep your left hand up.
25:20You're getting hit with right hands all night.
25:22And, you know, if he don't get his hands up soon, I mean, that might be the one that stopped this fight.
25:27Left hand by Volok.
25:29The uppercut, unbelievable.
25:31You just can't keep this guy off of you.
25:33And Foreman landed his own uppercut, and it just didn't stop.
25:36Volok now just shakes his head when he's hit.
25:38As if not.
25:38Sorry, it didn't hurt me.
25:41Volok continues to mull and crowd and zero in and connect to the body and head of Foreman.
25:50Stop, stop, stop, stop.
25:51Well, it's the fight of the year, May 7th, on Showtime Pay-Per-View, as eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao faces another future Hall of Famer in Sugar Shane Mosley.
26:05The build-up to that fight already has begun, obviously, and it's going to be a lot of fun.
26:12And, of course, Shane Mosley is tweeting right now from his training camp, and you can follow him at SugarShaneM on Twitter, and he'll tell you about the fight, and he's going to tell us about this fight as well.
26:26Yeah, and in that fight, I mean, Styles makes fights.
26:29I mean, he's not fighting a classic boxer like a Floyd Mayweather.
26:32Manny Pacquiao is going to give him opportunities, and you never know.
26:37That's exactly right.
26:38Yeah, that's what makes the fight fascinating.
26:42We're halfway through, things looking very bleak for Foreman.
26:45It's interesting because this is where Foreman won the title, right here in this ring, over Daniel Santos, and he fought a great game plan.
26:54And that's why he mixed it up with, you know, his usual great boxing ability and aggressiveness against Daniel Santos.
27:02But this is a long way from that night, the way he's looking tonight.
27:07And he's fighting a style, obviously, that he's just not accustomed to.
27:11Yet, with all that, and I wanted to make this point, we saw the toughness of Foreman against Cotto, and that's what won the hearts of people.
27:18In some ways, we're seeing it again here tonight.
27:20He's in there against the guy that's pressuring him.
27:23He's not able, for whatever reason, to fight his normal fight, and he's hanging in there, even though he's losing these rounds.
27:29I mean, with that right hand, it seems like he's just putting it on a tee.
27:36He's teeing off the right hand.
27:38How about this set?
27:39Yeah, the combinations, Volok landing so many more and throwing so many more than Uri Foreman.
27:45But, yeah, you can never question the heart and courage of Uri Foreman.
27:48He's going to, he'll hang in there.
27:50But he is just being overmatched by Volok.
27:52And we've seen Volok before.
27:54He's made appearances on Showbox, on Showtime, and, you know, he just keeps coming.
27:59He's just not a fighter that will stop.
28:02And also, you know, he realizes that Foreman can't hurt him.
28:06So that gives him more confidence to step inside.
28:09Well, I wouldn't say that, because when a fighter is coming with all that aggression,
28:13you can use his aggression against him and his body weight against him
28:17and land that perfect counterpunch.
28:19And Jose Pinzon did that in the last fight that he fought and knocked him down in the second round.
28:24But Volok got up and just dominated him after that.
28:26Yeah, he said he just didn't see that punch coming.
28:29That's why he went down in that fight.
28:32Minute 20 left.
28:34Round 6, scheduled for 10.
28:36One, two, three.
28:43What's your chance, huh?
28:46Volok's loss was to Ishe Smith, who was able to box him effectively
28:51and land tremendous counterpunches, because Ishe punches with more power than Foreman.
28:56Look out, look out.
28:58Keep breaking it, baby.
29:01Go ahead, Paul.
29:02Go ahead.
29:06Those are the two best jabs Foreman has thrown in this fight.
29:09And Volok's punch is a little wide there.
29:13The mouthpiece came out.
29:21Kenny Bayless retrieving it.
29:23It's Foreman's mouthpiece.
29:26So when there's a low on the action,
29:28the referee is able to get the mouthpiece back in.
29:35We approach 30 seconds left in the sixth round.
29:38Do you guys see Volok's left eye closing?
29:52Well, there's some swelling around it and a little redness.
29:55I don't know how bad it is, but there is swelling there.
29:58I'm sure to see some of those right hands by Foreman.
30:06Volok looking for the big finish here, and he gets it.
30:09Well, in Volok's last fight, as you guys were talking about,
30:13versus Jose Pinzón,
30:15Volok was dropped for the first time.
30:17It came early in round two off a perfect right uppercut,
30:20left hook combination to the chin.
30:22This was back in December in Anaheim.
30:25And early in the fight, Pinzón, as you said,
30:28landing the uppercut, then the hook.
30:29Now, that's the kind of punch that keeps people down.
30:32It didn't keep Volok down.
30:33Oh, man, that says a lot for his heart and desire.
30:35He popped right up.
30:36You okay?
30:38Walk to me.
30:39You need love.
30:40And then in this round that we just saw here in this fight,
30:43the mouthpiece of Uri Foreman,
30:46courtesy of the left hand,
30:47hits the canvas.
30:49And it will, of course, eventually cause a stoppage
30:52as Kenny Bayless got him to put it back in,
30:54but that's a demonstration.
31:03Oh, that's it.
31:05That's it.
31:06They have stopped the fight.
31:08Uri Foreman will not answer the bell
31:12for round seven.
31:16And it's a big, big victory for Pavel Volok
31:20as they celebrate
31:21and the second straight loss for Uri Foreman.
31:26I wonder what happened in the corner, Al.
31:28I mean, the fight wasn't over by any means.
31:31Even though I had him down six rounds,
31:33he needed a knockout to win on my car.
31:35But, I mean, we're talking about a former champion here.
31:40Probably, I guess, just the effect of all those punches
31:44and their feeling that maybe he'd taken enough punishment,
31:47apparently it was enough.
31:49I don't know.
31:49But Uri Foreman took a pounding in this fight.
31:53And the numbers will verify that.
31:55We see before the Klanic 51, 265 out of 105 punches, you know, over 50%.
32:04These two men know each other very well and have respect for each other.
32:07And that's evident there at the end of this fight.
32:09It's a one-sided victory, dominating fashion, for Pavel Volok.
32:13And this look of shock on the face of Uri Foreman.
32:18A night of celebration for Volok finally gets that elusive signature victory.
32:23The Polish-born New Jerseyan with a huge win over former champ Uri Foreman.
32:27And he gets to do some commentary as well.
32:36Let's leave some action in this last round
32:40as Volok continues to blast away at Uri Foreman.
32:43He put himself in a perfect position geographically in the ring
32:47to land these big shots against him.
32:49Yeah, he was very close all night.
32:52And I tell you, I mean, you better be in some fantastic shape
32:56going up against Volok because, I mean,
32:58you're going to have to have a knockout punch to stop this guy.
33:00Yeah, you hit on it.
33:01You have to get his attention and get his respect.
33:04And Foreman, though he landed big punches, was just not able to do that.
33:08And this fight turned into, stylistically,
33:11something that was a nightmare for Foreman.
33:13And we see how Volok was able to land
33:15all these great punches on the inside.
33:17And, you know, he's criticized sometimes for his power,
33:23but when he throws the right hand straight like that,
33:26he's got much more power in it.
33:29So Volok ups his record to 29-1.
33:3319 KOs.
33:35Disheartening night for Foreman.
33:36It's time to make it official.
33:37Let's go up to our ring announcer, Jimmy Leninger.
33:43Well, fans, on advice of the corner,
33:45our referee in charge, Kenny Bayless,
33:48stops this contest at the end of round number six.
33:52He is the winner by way of technical knockout,
33:56Pavel Raging Bull Volok.
34:00Yeah!
34:01Yeah!
34:02Whatever!
34:03Let's do it!
34:04I need him.
34:04I need him.
34:05Okay.
34:06Let's go, boy.
34:06So a big win for Pavel Volok.
34:11And just a very difficult night for Uri Foreman.
34:17Couldn't bounce back from the loss to Miguel Cotto,
34:19who took his belt.
34:26We're set now for post-fight comments.
34:28Let's go to Jim Gray standing by.
34:30Jim!
34:30All right, Steve.
34:31Thank you very much.
34:32Congratulations to you, Pavel.
34:34How were you able to dominate this fight?
34:37I was just training really hard for it.
34:38You know what I mean?
34:38We did everything we had to win, man.
34:41I was like, I'd be in his face nonstop.
34:43He's not a lot of jab.
34:43He's not a head movement.
34:44Punish the body.
34:45Stop him from moving.
34:46I mean, that was my whole plan.
34:47Terrific Tommy right here.
34:49We were going over that game plan.
34:50Watch tapes.
34:51We did everything we had to win.
34:52You mentioned Tommy.
34:54How about the familiarity of having his former corner with you
34:57and plus all the training that you had done side-by-side with Uri?
35:01Yeah, that's true.
35:02You know, Tommy, terrific.
35:04Tommy, to be his former trainer, terrific.
35:05He used to bring a lot of sparring for Uri for past fights.
35:09Darren Antolo was his former cup man.
35:12And I've got to say, man, I can't read my sparring partners,
35:15Ozzy Duran from Ghana, Africa.
35:18I mean, all you guys.
35:18Glenn Tapia, EJ Barto, Alejandro Berrios.
35:22I've got the best ball in the world, man.
35:23I can't complain, man.
35:24I love your hands.
35:25You hit him so many times with power punches
35:27and consistently with that right hand.
35:29Were you surprised that his left hand was so low throughout the fight?
35:34What do you think you're going to get him, man?
35:35That's it.
35:35I know one way or another, if I put enough pressure, hit you enough,
35:38I'm going to slow you down, you know what I mean?
35:40That's the game plan, man.
35:41You know, that's terrific sense, man.
35:42You ain't the fastest guy.
35:44You ain't the slickest guy.
35:44You ain't the prettiest guy.
35:45But one thing that you do is you work like a madman.
35:47That's what I do, man.
35:48I work.
35:49This is a big victory for you.
35:50What would you like to do with this and take on next?
35:54Well, Chavez, we got to finish business.
35:56Any of the guys, 54.
35:57So, Alvarez just won a title.
35:59Love to fight him.
36:01I could use Bundridge.
36:02Also got a title to fight him.
36:03Any of the top guys, man.
36:04I'm trying to be the best.
36:05That's it.
36:05I want to get the titles.
36:07Congratulations to you.
36:08I want to say to my wife, to my son, I love you guys.
36:12All right.
36:12Congratulations to you.
36:14Yuri, are you all right?
36:15Is everything okay with you?
36:17I'm okay.
36:19You know, I'm okay.
36:23You know, so many things happened since the last fight.
36:28I didn't feel like myself, you know, today.
36:31When you talk about so many things, first let's address the knee.
36:33Was that a problem for you tonight?
36:35Did it cause you to be too stationary?
36:36No, it was nothing.
36:37Nothing.
36:37No excuses.
36:39No knee.
36:40Nothing away from Paul.
36:42Great performance.
36:43He really pushed hard.
36:45But, you know, I just, I don't know, from long layoff, you know, I didn't feel sharp, you know.
36:52I just feel like mushy a little bit today.
36:55Yuri, he had your former corner and is very, very familiar with you.
36:58How much of a factor do you believe that was in his victory?
37:01I, you know, I'm not sure it's a corner, you know.
37:04The only corner was Mike Cartman, so Tommy Brooks, we worked for a while together.
37:11But I've been with my older corner for a long time, you know.
37:15Joe Greer, hello.
37:19Here, your left hand seemed to be down most of the fight, and he seemed to hit you repeatedly with that right-hand shot.
37:25And now Bernstein and Antonio talked about it throughout the fight.
37:28Why wouldn't you raise it?
37:29It's fine to do that, they were saying, when you're on the outside, but inside it was way too low.
37:33I, you know, I can't say why, I just probably could blame the overall feeling, the way I felt today in the rink.
37:42Didn't fail myself, I should have boxed, and I was just not even moving, you know, I was on the ropes all the time.
37:50Even though I put great pressure, but it's not like, you know.
37:54What will you do from here?
37:55What will you do now from here, from this point, the last couple of losses?
37:59I need a second loss in a row.
38:02I need to relax, to take time off, rethink things, and we'll see, you know.
38:10Yuri, thank you.
38:11Appreciate your time.
38:12Thank you very much.
38:12Showtime.
38:14All right, Steve.
38:14Back down to you.
38:15All right, thanks, Jim.
38:20Let's take a look at how the scoring went for the Foreman-Volok fight.
38:24First, we'll take a look at the official judges.
38:26Yeah, this was at the time of the stoppage.
38:28Of course, they were all unanimous.
38:30That last one, 60-54.
38:32They're all 60-54.
38:33As we had it, a total shutout.
38:38And press row.
38:39Press row, clearly, exactly the same.
38:41So it is rare that you see a fight that's a two-way fight like this, because Volok just
38:46dominated where every round scored for him.
38:48Yeah, he did dominate, and they made no adjustments in Yuri Foreman's corner.
38:54Inexperienced tonight.
38:56And maybe that man, I know he wanted to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
39:00They had it made.
39:01I'm loving that fight.
39:02Oh, yeah.
39:04So a great night for Pavel Volok as he takes care of business against his friend.
39:11And he is very eager to pose for the cameras up in the ring.
