00:03:00From the Manchester Evening News Arena
00:03:30in Manchester, England, HBO Sports presents
00:03:33World Championship Boxing, where tonight
00:03:36England's own Prince Nassim Hamed
00:03:38defends his featherweight title against a fellow
00:03:41Yorkshireman, undefeated Paul Engel.
00:03:45It's scheduled for 12 rounds on a beautiful
00:03:48spring day in the northern England town
00:03:51of Manchester, about 40 miles down the road from Prince Nassim Hamed's
00:03:55hometown of Sheffield. A crowd of about 20,000,
00:03:58perhaps the largest indoor crowd
00:04:00ever to see a boxing match in England
00:04:03fills this Manchester arena to watch their darling
00:04:06Prince Nassim Hamed against a man from nearby Scarborough,
00:04:11also in Yorkshire, Paul Engel.
00:04:13They are both undefeated, and as Prince Nassim said to us
00:04:16yesterday, somebody's own is going to go.
00:04:20Hello again, everybody. I'm Jim Lafley.
00:04:23We welcome you to this special edition of HBO's
00:04:25World Championship Boxing, the first appearance
00:04:28on these airwaves and in the ring for Prince Nassim Hamed
00:04:32since he was forced to go 12 full rounds to earn a unanimous
00:04:36decision against Ireland's Wayne McCullough last October 31,
00:04:40Halloween night. That decision victory for the Prince
00:04:43has increased his unbeaten record to 31-0, but ended his
00:04:47knockout streak at 18 consecutive knockouts and perhaps
00:04:50rubbed off a little of the mystique, which has helped to make
00:04:53him one of the most entertaining, if not the most entertaining
00:04:57fighter in boxing.
00:04:58Working with me as always, HBO boxing analyst Larry Merchant.
00:05:02Larry, when the Prince first came to HBO, we all knew the
00:05:05fighter against whom he was matched, Kevin Kelly.
00:05:07Likewise, we've been able since then to recognize Wilfredo
00:05:10Vasquez and Wayne McCullough, both of them former world
00:05:13champions. But who is Paul Engel? And what is he doing
00:05:16fighting Prince Nassim Hamed?
00:05:18Imagine coming all this way, Jim, to watch two Yorkshiremen
00:05:21duke it out. What we want to know is whether Engel is going to
00:05:25be a Yorkshire pudding swallowed whole by one punch from the
00:05:30hard-punching champion, or whether he's going to be a
00:05:33Yorkshire terrier who hunts the champion down like a good
00:05:37ratter should. Engel, in some ways, is a typical English fighter,
00:05:44perhaps a little bit better. But we wonder whether he has the
00:05:46strength to work on this level. He's tough, he's well schooled,
00:05:52and he looks like he hasn't been in the sun in six years. To
00:05:56withstand Hamed's vaunted punch, he's trained himself in unusual
00:06:01ways, jumping into the icy rivers around here, going to an army
00:06:07course to train, and even camping out on the moors with his pet
00:06:12whippets and other beasts of prey. The question, again, is can
00:06:18he take that punch? If he can, and it's a big if, we might have a
00:06:23titanic upset.
00:06:24By way of underlining the style difference, the lifestyle
00:06:27difference between himself and the Prince. Engel likes to say, he
00:06:30has two Bentleys and a Lamborghini, I have two whippets and a ferret.
00:06:35Well, working with us as always, no ferret this man, two-time world
00:06:39heavyweight champion George Foreman, a big fan of the Prince's
00:06:42entertainment value. And George, there's no more unorthodox fighter
00:06:46to be found in the sport than the wild swinging knockout artist,
00:06:49the Prince. But since last we saw him, fired his promoter, fired his
00:06:53manager, fired the trainer who had taken him through 17 years of
00:06:57his career, has hired to replace Patty Engel as former trainer, a
00:07:01guy named Oscar Suarez, who has been working in Patterson, New
00:07:04Jersey for 18 years, but we've never seen him. And now Suarez says
00:07:07that he's making changes in the Prince's style. He did so well
00:07:10doing it the wrong way. Is there any value to trying to make him
00:07:14do it the right way?
00:07:15I don't think so. Like I said earlier, it would be like teaching
00:07:18Einstein to count on his fingers again. You don't want to mess
00:07:21with something so successful. This guy's got everything. He's a
00:07:24little unorthodox, but he's a phenomenon and you don't want to
00:07:27mess with those kind of guys. But if you want to mess with them,
00:07:30this is the right time for your opponent because all of these
00:07:33distractions can cause for a great upset.
00:07:35Well, let's see what happens as Paul Engel looks to take advantage
00:07:39of the main chance against Prince Nassim Ahmed. Here's the tail
00:07:47of the tape for the two Yorkshire men. You see that Engel is one
00:07:50year older. They were more or less contemporaries years ago on
00:07:53the British national amateur boxing team before Engel, not Prince
00:07:57Nassim. Engel went to the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 as the
00:08:01flyweight representative. Engel with a two inch height advantage.
00:08:04They weighed in within a half pound of the limit. Tonight Engel weighs
00:08:07137 to Prince's 136 as they enter the ring. Six and a half inch
00:08:11reach advantage for Engel. But will that help him to stay away
00:08:16from Hamed's power shots? Punch that numbers, Larry.
00:08:20These are the numbers from their last fights. You can see they're
00:08:25vaguely similar. But of course, Hamed is a much bigger puncher.
00:08:29Interestingly, Engel, although he has a reach advantage, is a very
00:08:33aggressive fighter and doesn't use that reach advantage.
00:08:37And here are the power punches, the significant edge that
00:08:41Hamed has. It's a significant edge because he is unorthodox, throws
00:08:46punches from awkward angles that opponents frequently don't see.
00:08:50And rules of the bout from the avid traveler who has eaten fish and
00:08:54chips three times in the last two days, Harold Letterman.
00:08:59Paul Engel will fight his schedule for 12 rounds using the standardized rules of the
00:09:03Association of Boxing Commissions. There is no standing eight count, no three
00:09:08knockdown rule. Only the referee can stop the fight, and he cannot be saved by the
00:09:12bell in any rounds, including the 12th and final round.
00:09:14He has to do it twice tonight if he's kept waiting too long for Hamed in the ring. But it looks
00:09:33like he's got some stuff going on for himself.
00:09:38Trying to upstage Prince Nassim's anticipated customary, overly elaborate
00:09:45entrance. Paul Engel produces his own theatrics.
00:09:49Well, he calls himself the hunter, so I guess we just saw some machine gun bullets outline his
00:10:01attempt here to upstage the Prince. I like it.
00:10:06Oh, you're becoming a fan of these showy entrances, Larry?
00:10:13I like showy entrances. I think that's something boxing can borrow from wrestling,
00:10:18as long as what goes on in the ring is honest.
00:10:22Well, I wonder if Frank Maloney has started his stopwatch yet. Engel's manager Frank Maloney says he'll
00:10:28put a stopwatch on his own fighter's entrance, and then they will, in effect, give the Prince
00:10:33the same amount of time to get into the ring, and if he doesn't get into the ring
00:10:36within the allotted time period established by the stopwatch, then Engel will, as Larry
00:10:42mentioned, leave the ring, go back to the dressing room, and wait to come back out again
00:10:46after the Prince has already made his entrance. We'll see if they'll follow through with that
00:10:50plan. Frank Maloney, the man who is ostensibly holding the stopwatch, you'll recognize as
00:10:55also the manager of world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. Lewis isn't here tonight, incidentally.
00:11:01He spent the weekend in New York for the United States Boxing Writers Association dinner.
00:11:07The Prince called Engel ugly in one of the fight promotion ads, and Maloney said the Prince
00:11:20must not have any mirrors in his house.
00:11:29Well, there it is. Engel makes his entrance in a fatigued outfit,
00:11:34befitting his paramilitary approach to training.
00:11:37He calls himself in the Yorkshire Hunter. This is hunting gear.
00:11:42He recognized referee Joe Cortez, one of the finest referees in the sport, as he stands in
00:11:48front of Engel and begins individual instructions. There's the record for Paul Engel. 21 wins,
00:11:54no losses, no draws, 15 KOs. A lot of people say, well, his most significant opponent was
00:11:59Billy Hardy. Prince Nassim knocked out Billy Hardy in one round.
00:12:03And we can see Maloney saying they took six minutes to come into the ring. He's got a stopwatch in his hand.
00:12:20And there's Maloney holding the stopwatch. So you presume that Maloney has now established
00:12:27for purposes of this camp.
00:12:31Well, you know, and he has a point. He says,
00:12:33What's the time limit is?
00:12:34I've warmed up my fighter in the dressing room. We're coming out here. It's just not fair to have him
00:12:39freeze for 10 or 15 minutes.
00:12:42You saw what happened to Kevin Kelly in Madison Square Garden as he stood in the ring and watched
00:12:47and waited, watched and waited for the Prince finally to enter.
00:12:52But I would like to have an opponent
00:12:54leave the ring and make that walk way back out and come out again.
00:12:58That would be great.
00:13:00So I'm actually trying to exploit that.
00:13:02So you think they'd be cutting off their noses to spite their face
00:13:05if they do what Maloney plans?
00:13:07George, it's not that long of a walk.
00:13:10Yeah, but that's the kind of walk, an emotional walk
00:13:12that you don't want your fighter to do but once.
00:13:14It's all about emotion.
00:13:18Now, Prince Nassim, incidentally,
00:13:21well aware of Maloney's announced plan to pull a fighter out of the ring
00:13:26and a master of gamesmanship, or at least certainly he sees himself that way,
00:13:31has not yet left his dressing room.
00:13:34I guess he's daring Maloney and Engel
00:13:37to follow through on their threat.
00:13:46Last Halloween in Atlantic City,
00:13:49Nassim cut short his entrance by several planned minutes.
00:13:54Seemed to sort of cut it off in midstream
00:13:56and just walk directly to the ring as if to say,
00:13:58I'm a little tired of the show this evening.
00:14:02Later admitted that he was out of sorts coming into the fight.
00:14:05We knew that he was arguing with his trainer.
00:14:08He said that he was poorly nourished
00:14:11and not well-conditioned for the fight
00:14:14and also on the wrong time clock
00:14:16because he had only gotten to the United States
00:14:17four days prior to the assigned date in Atlantic City.
00:14:21And maybe that had something to do with his cutting short the entrance.
00:14:24Maybe he knew that he wasn't about to produce
00:14:26one of those explosive signature performances.
00:14:30Well, I think Wayne McCullough
00:14:31had more to do with it than he did.
00:14:33Yep.
00:14:36If Engel is as tough as McCullough,
00:14:38we could have some fun here tonight.
00:14:40So Maloney apparently timing Hamed's entrance starting now.
00:15:00And that would seem to indicate that in a couple minutes
00:15:03Maloney's going to turn to his fighter and say,
00:15:06let's get out of here and they're going to leave the ring
00:15:07and go back to the dressing room.
00:15:09You know, in a day we fought for the world titles
00:15:12back in the 60s and 70s,
00:15:14we'd have to wait for a long time anyway.
00:15:16The champion will come in.
00:15:17Then we put the gloves on in the ring.
00:15:20We taped the glove.
00:15:21So there's nothing unusual about waiting in the ring.
00:15:28What about NASA's entrance tonight, Larry?
00:15:30What's in the offing?
00:15:32Well, I've heard it has something to do with automobiles.
00:15:37He's in an automobile buff,
00:15:39although in his new image as being more modest
00:15:43ladies and gentlemen, making his entrance to the ring.
00:15:46He's just the defending champion.
00:15:47It has to do with Martin here and a proof horse.
00:15:49There he is.
00:15:50Hi!
00:15:51Hi!
00:15:51Hi!
00:15:52Hi!
00:15:52Hi!
00:15:53Hi!
00:15:54Hi!
00:15:55Hi!
00:15:56Hi!
00:15:57Hi!
00:15:58Hi!
00:15:59Hi!
00:16:00Hi!
00:16:01Hi!
00:16:02Hi!
00:16:03Hi!
00:16:04Hi!
00:16:05Hi!
00:16:06Hi!
00:16:07Hi!
00:16:08Hi!
00:16:09Hi!
00:16:10Hi!
00:16:11Hi!
00:16:12Hi!
00:16:13Hi!
00:16:13Hi!
00:16:43Hi!
00:16:43And for the Saint Joseph Camp leaves the ring.
00:16:45As promised, Paul Engel, at the behest of manager Frank Maloney,
00:16:50has left the ring and headed back to the dressing room
00:16:52as the Hamad entrance begins with triple princes.
00:16:56Well, the prince likes to do a solo act.
00:16:59When he gets into the ring, he may have to do one.
00:17:01This is the real Prince, actually, come out there, man.
00:17:14Folks, Prince Ahmed, I've heard, is getting a reported $7 million for this fight tonight.
00:17:36Most of it from overseas.
00:17:38Sources of television revenues.
00:17:41This is why he gets all that money.
00:17:44Whoa.
00:17:45I can't wait to say that.
00:17:47Yeah.
00:17:48Get some sweet.
00:17:53All right, let's get my music to be.
00:18:00Yeah.
00:18:02Oh, yeah.
00:18:07Maybe he has a new choreographer as well as a new trainer, a new promoter, and a new manager.
00:18:14All right, let's get to his music, but let me see some dancing.
00:18:20Come on, come on.
00:18:25Let me see some dancing.
00:18:33All right.
00:18:34Come to the mic.
00:18:35The Prince seems disappointed that he's not getting the response he had hoped to get with
00:18:45this entrance.
00:18:49Well, not a lot of people can see what's going on, to be honest with you.
00:18:52The sight lines run such that they can all see it.
00:18:55What do you think he's going to do when he gets to the ring and he turns out to be the
00:19:08only fighter there?
00:19:09Maybe he'll lead.
00:19:12Go back to the dressing room.
00:19:14Here comes Engel.
00:19:19So, George, you would say that he just played into the Prince's hands.
00:19:22That's right.
00:19:22That's one thing you want to do.
00:19:24You want to be solid.
00:19:25And everything you do is strictly basic.
00:19:28We move out of that.
00:19:29We're moving into his territory, and he's the king of it.
00:19:31In case you haven't seen him before, get ready for the flip over-the-top rope into the ring.
00:19:54The coup de grace, as it were, of this entrance.
00:20:01This is as usual for Prince Nassim Hamed.
00:20:23You mentioned the new trainer, Oscar Suarez, originally from Puerto Rico.
00:20:27Last 28 years in Patterson, New Jersey.
00:20:29Here comes Paul Engel back into the ring.
00:20:36Prince Nassim with record of 31-0, 28 knockouts, but new promoter, new trainer, maybe a new
00:20:43in-the-ring style.
00:20:45Emanuel Stewart has also been hired on for the night to advise Suarez and Hamed.
00:20:50Ostensibly, he'll only talk to the trainer, but you've got to wait and see.
00:20:54Emanuel's not shy if something goes wrong.
00:20:59There's Suarez, the new trainer.
00:21:01There's Manny Stewart walking right in front of him.
00:21:06And Michael Buffer waiting for his cue to provide the official introductions.
00:21:11Emanuel Stewart is here because in a later bout, actually the walkout bout here tonight,
00:21:24his most famous fighter ever, Tommy Hearns, is fighting against Nate Miller in a cruiserweight bout.
00:21:35Since he was going to be on the scene anyway, it was apparently the Prince's idea to have him involved
00:21:41in what has suddenly become a pretty strong corner beyond the relatively unknown trainer.
00:21:46Stewart, and brand new cut man, Al Gavin, one of the very best at his trade.
00:21:52The Prince has never been cut, he says, but he hired Gavin anyway.
00:21:56Here's Engel.
00:21:57And here comes Michael Buffer.
00:22:00My lords, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Manchester Evening News Arena here in Manchester, England,

00:26:15Any questions here?
00:26:17All right.
00:26:18Touch them up.
00:26:19When this is over here,
00:26:22are we going to be seeing,
00:26:24singing Paul Garfunkel's
00:26:26Are you going to Scarborough Fair for Engel?
00:26:29Or from the musical here
00:26:31for the champion,
00:26:33Manchester, Manchester, England,
00:26:35across the Atlantic Sea?
00:26:38I am a genius, genius.
00:26:42That would be Art Garfunkel and Paul Simon.
00:26:46Simon and Garfunkel.
00:26:49And round one begins.
00:26:52You caught a brief ringside glimpse
00:26:54of Nassim's father, Sal Hamed.
00:26:57And to go back to the early discussion
00:26:59with George Foreman about a change in style,
00:27:02the trainer says that he wants Hamed
00:27:03to be better balanced
00:27:04in a tighter envelope,
00:27:06boxing more conventionally
00:27:08out of the southpaw stance, George.
00:27:09And I hate the thought of that.
00:27:11It would be like,
00:27:12like I said earlier,
00:27:12sending Einstein to Harvard
00:27:14to get an English degree
00:27:15just so he could do his math.
00:27:16This guy's got the whole package.
00:27:19You should let him alone.
00:27:20You can see why Engel is regarded
00:27:22as a pretty good defensive fighter.
00:27:24His head movement,
00:27:25his hands held high.
00:27:30Conventional wisdom is that
00:27:31fighters revert to form.
00:27:33Form for Prince Nassim
00:27:34is to launch wild shots
00:27:36from odd angles
00:27:38while avoiding his opponent's punches
00:27:42in the least conventional ways,
00:27:44ducking his head backward
00:27:45or from side to side.
00:27:46He's had enormous punching power
00:27:48with either hand.
00:27:49And I like what he's just done.
00:27:50He did something stupid,
00:27:52and that's what he does best.
00:27:54You want to call the other gal
00:27:56to do the other things
00:27:57that he can't do.
00:27:57He's had a career
00:28:00of beating basic boxers.
00:28:02Why change and make him
00:28:03a basic boxer?
00:28:05After failing to come through
00:28:06on a prediction
00:28:07of a third-round KO
00:28:08against McCullough
00:28:09last October,
00:28:11Prince Nassim stayed away
00:28:12from any specific round prediction
00:28:14for a knockout in this fight,
00:28:16but as his confidence grew
00:28:17in the last couple days,
00:28:18he did say,
00:28:19don't blink.
00:28:20The Prince looking for an opening
00:28:25in that shell defense from Ingo.
00:28:29Hey, Harold Letterman,
00:28:31they're wearing different colored gloves.
00:28:32Is there a story there?
00:28:33Yeah, Jim.
00:28:34At the rules meeting,
00:28:35the champion picks first.
00:28:37He picked a brand-new pair of red gloves.
00:28:38They didn't have another pair
00:28:40of brand-new red gloves left.
00:28:41Some point Ingo got stuck with the other.
00:28:43Don't blink.
00:28:45Ingo goes down on the left hand.
00:28:47Oh!
00:28:48Five!
00:28:49Six!
00:28:51Hadn't been knocked down
00:28:52in five years.
00:28:53Only the second time in his career
00:28:54he's been knocked down.
00:28:55I guess the punching power
00:28:56remains intact.
00:28:57The power is there.
00:28:59Now, you look,
00:28:59Joe Cortez,
00:29:00when you see him in the ring,
00:29:02that means the champion
00:29:03is not worried about losing his crown.
00:29:05But this man has integrity.
00:29:11He should be crowned the referee,
00:29:13the best referee
00:29:15as far as integrity is in town.
00:29:17Hard right hand by Hamed.
00:29:18Drives Ingo into the ropes.
00:29:21Prince Nassim has landed
00:29:22some power wallops
00:29:23in the first round.
00:29:25Two left hands and a right.
00:29:27And now Ingo lands a right hand
00:29:29coming back.
00:29:31Oh!
00:29:31Oh!
00:29:32Oh!
00:29:32Oh!
00:29:33Oh!
00:29:33Oh!
00:29:33Oh!
00:29:34Oh!
00:29:34Oh!
00:29:35Oh!
00:29:35Oh!
00:29:36Oh!
00:29:36Oh!
00:29:36Oh!
00:29:36Oh!
00:29:37Oh!
00:29:37Oh!
00:29:38Oh!
00:29:38Oh!
00:29:39Oh!
00:29:39Oh!
00:29:40Oh!
00:29:40Oh!
00:29:40Oh!
00:29:41Oh!
00:29:41Oh!
00:29:42Oh!
00:29:42Oh!
00:29:43Oh!
00:29:43Oh!
00:29:44Oh!
00:29:44Oh!
00:29:45Oh!
00:29:46Oh!
00:29:47Oh!
00:29:48Oh!
00:29:49Oh!
00:29:50Oh!
00:29:51Oh!
00:29:52Oh!
00:29:53Oh!
00:29:54Oh!
00:29:55Oh!
00:29:56Oh!
00:29:57Oh!
00:29:58Oh!
00:29:59Oh!
00:30:00Oh!
00:30:01Oh!
00:30:02Oh!
00:30:03Oh!
00:30:04And I see him trying to fight from a conventional stance left to the body, left to the head.
00:30:30A wonderful two-punch combination.
00:30:36As promised us, more body shots than we've seen in the past, and the left to the body there perfectly set up the power shot.
00:30:44In round one, Prince Nassim landing 18 of 52 punches by CompuBox number, 17 of the power shots.
00:30:51Engel, five of only 38, and Engel had promised us that he would throw 140 punches around.
00:30:58No problem, he said. 38 punches in the first round, only 102 short of his predicted number.
00:31:12It's hard to throw a lot of punches against Prince Nassim, George, because he stays at a distance and dodges from side to side.
00:31:18He'll slide his lead foot ahead and then slide it back to you, so he keeps in position.
00:31:24Put that foot right back up there and hits you.
00:31:27I like that. Slide in, slide out.
00:31:30Nassim misses with a right hand.
00:31:33He's only thrown a few jabs.
00:31:35Engel just has not been able to set up and mount an offense because he cannot or will not get close.
00:31:41This after claiming to us that he would come in and put his face on Nassim's face and try to fight him in a phone booth.
00:31:47It only took one left hand to alter that strategy.
00:31:50Once you taste that kind of power from a guy like that, you've got to protect yourself.
00:31:56Now, incidentally, with regard to the use of the term title here, Nass doesn't own one of the three more notorious titles given by the well-known so-called governing bodies.
00:32:08The one he owns is a sort of off-brand, but in terms of his public impact and his accomplishment, he's the number one featherweight in the sport.
00:32:16That's why we designate him as the champion.
00:32:19He is definitely the champion.
00:32:23He's better beware that Engel has come here to win.
00:32:27Even though you knock him out, you can't play with him.
00:32:35Engel comes in close.
00:32:37Has lands an uppercut.
00:32:39And you see the fluidity with which Prince Nassim is able to throw his combinations with power cuts when you get in close.
00:32:46You have to be careful, Engel is using elbows a little here.
00:32:49Oh, he said he'll use everything.
00:32:51Elbows, forehead.
00:32:52He said he can't mess around in there.
00:32:54You've got to do anything you can to hurt the guy.
00:32:56I don't like the idea of a guy gloves on and un-gloved elbows.
00:33:02I think for a lot of guys out there who would like to be referees, they should really watch Joe Cortez.
00:33:17Most you see him out of the picture, which is the best picture you want to see for a referee.
00:33:23I do remember him getting into the picture to count out Michael Moore on November 5, 1994.
00:33:28Ups.
00:33:31Uppercut lands for Nassim, backs Engel up again.
00:33:34Get in the way!
00:33:41Engel is starting to use his footwork left and right, and that's what I would do.
00:33:45Anything that Nassim does tonight, remember, he's half-heartedly doing it.
00:33:49He's messed up in training camp.
00:33:57For the featherweight championship of Yorkshire and the world.
00:34:01Okay, that's good, okay, baby, but remember, that job has to be a little bit more sharper than that, right?
00:34:06You're being a little lazy with it, all right?
00:34:08Now, remember, you don't have to fall into his fight, okay?
00:34:10You keep doing your fight, okay?
00:34:12Now, like I say, two hands to the body, okay, baby?
00:34:15Now, we have to keep it down, remember?
00:34:17We have to keep it down, all right?
00:34:19So, we have to be looking a little bit more sharper than that, all right?
00:34:22And pick him, pick him nice, okay?
00:34:25Okay, pick him nice, and remember, we don't have one hand, all right?
00:34:28We got three hands, okay, baby?
00:34:30Okay?
00:34:31And we're going to turn him just a little bit.
00:34:32We don't need to reach with him.
00:34:33Just turn him a little bit, all right, baby?
00:34:35And go.
00:34:36Okay?
00:34:37Then we go with the motion.
00:34:38Okay, baby?
00:34:39So, we're going to go to the bank now, right?
00:34:42What a contrast to last October 31 when Brendan Eagle barely tried to speak to Hamed,
00:34:47and Hamed made clear that he wouldn't listen to him if he did.
00:34:50Tonight, listening very intently to the new voice in his corner, Oscar Suarez with George.
00:34:55He spent 17 years listening to one voice in the corner.
00:34:58How strange is it for the Prince now to be listening to an entirely new guy?
00:35:02It's shocking.
00:35:03It's going to take more than just sitting in a corner.
00:35:05It just does not sink in because the guy gets to be part of him, that voice.
00:35:10And this guy has not become a part of him yet.
00:35:13As you see, he hasn't thrown one body shot as he was told.
00:35:16Now you see one.
00:35:17But it was back to the head.
00:35:18Like, I believe I know what I'm doing.
00:35:20He spent his whole life polishing a style which is completely and entirely his own.
00:35:30There isn't another fighter in the sport who attacks in exactly the same way as Prince
00:35:34Nassim Hamed.
00:35:35Suarez wants more conventionality.
00:35:37Suarez wants more conventionality.
00:35:38The Prince just wants to smile and knock people for a loop with power shots.
00:35:42Like that.
00:35:44Ingle is really smart.
00:35:45When he's not doing anything, he's moving his hair.
00:35:48You've got to keep your hands up at all time and tuck your chin with a puncher like this.
00:35:53Ingle keeping his right glove pinned to his cheek, the guard against the left hand.
00:35:58And that time, Hamed punches right through the guard.
00:36:01And lands a right.
00:36:03Ingle just hasn't been able to mount any kind of attack.
00:36:10Well, what makes Hamed special is not just his power, but his combination of the power, the quickness, the eyesight that sees everything coming.
00:36:19That's right.
00:36:20The movement.
00:36:23The eyesight.
00:36:24I like that.
00:36:25The reflexes.
00:36:26Yeah, he watches everything.
00:36:28The fact that the other fighter stands in front of him, having been trained to fight conventionally
00:36:32and wonders what in the world this guy thinks he's doing and can't believe how effective it is.
00:36:39Breaks a few rules here and there, but let me tell you, he makes up for it with the power.
00:36:44It's a little like standing on the practice tee in golf and watching somebody with a horrendous swing and saying,
00:36:49Oh, I'm going to tear this guy up on the course.
00:36:51And then after five holes, you're four shots down and you're thinking, What happened?
00:36:55Ingle is starting to go to the body just a little now.
00:37:01He's starting to get through.
00:37:03And Hamed comes back with a three-punch combination.
00:37:08And he's wanting to go to the body with a combination, but Hamid has got to understand that your fighter must be coming to you to be able to land that shot.
00:37:17You can't go to him and throw combinations to the body.
00:37:20And they're ducking, smiling, firing the left hand, just missing.
00:37:24Ingle misses wildly with the left, and Hamid effectively counters him inside.
00:37:29Prince Nassim, delighting his fans in the crowd through the first three rounds with some vintage Nassim moves.
00:37:39Now the prince is starting to throw away a lot of his strength and endurance by throwing such hard shots.
00:37:54Well, he's extremely knockout conscious, and tonight, maybe more so than ever.
00:37:59He's holding up.
00:38:00How you feeling?
00:38:01How you feeling?
00:38:02Great.
00:38:03Good, good.
00:38:04Take it deeper, baby.
00:38:05Take it deeper.
00:38:06Take it deeper.
00:38:07Excellent.
00:38:08Excellent.
00:38:09Now, we rushed there a little bit, all right?
00:38:10Which you didn't need to.
00:38:11Okay, baby?
00:38:12You didn't need to do that, all right?
00:38:14Remember, you keep to the point, okay, baby?
00:38:17Now, every time you throw that hook there, baby, I want to see it to the body, okay?
00:38:21Because he's there for you.
00:38:22Automatically, he's right there for you.
00:38:23Uh-huh.
00:38:24Okay, baby?
00:38:25So, we have to do it.
00:38:26Okay?
00:38:27Uh-huh.
00:38:28Here you go.
00:38:29Awesome.
00:38:30Now, again.
00:38:31Again, baby.
00:38:32We still...
00:38:33Eagles trainer is named Steve Pollard, himself a veteran fighter.
00:38:36Round four.
00:38:37Oh!
00:38:38Oh!
00:38:39Oh!
00:38:40Oh!
00:38:41Oh!
00:38:42Oh!
00:38:43Oh!
00:38:44Oh!
00:38:45Oh!
00:38:46Oh!
00:38:47Oh!
00:38:48Oh!
00:38:49Oh!
00:38:50Oh!
00:38:51Oh!
00:38:52Ingle is getting $500,000 for this fight.
00:38:56By far the biggest purse of his career.
00:39:00He's also bet $10,000 on himself.
00:39:0310,000 pounds.
00:39:0410,000 pounds, which is about $16,000.
00:39:07That bet doesn't look too good right now.
00:39:10Odds of 11-2.
00:39:11If he wins the bet, he wins 55,000 pounds to go on top of his purse.
00:39:15Harold, how do you have it through three?
00:39:17He's got a good punch in 3-0, 30 to 26.
00:39:1830 to 26.
00:39:19Prince to see him.
00:39:20I mean, give him an extra point for the knockdown in round one.
00:39:23Certainly he's winning his fight.
00:39:24A clean punch for the left-handed spits.
00:39:26He's murdering him.
00:39:27Good defense, good effect of aggressive and piss by the Prince as well.
00:39:32I think the big mistake, the corner talking too much.
00:39:36You want to tell this guy, fight your fight.
00:39:38Don't forget to get into that baton and let him alone.
00:39:42They did ask for body shots again.
00:39:44And if Emanuel Stewart is playing an active role in that corner,
00:39:46he's doing it during the rounds, talking to Suarez.
00:39:49Actually, he's seated on the opposite side of the corner from Suarez.
00:39:53So for the moment, there can be no conversation between Emanuel and Oscar Suarez.
00:39:56So he's talking to Suarez, his brother now, who's a cheap second.
00:39:59But Emanuel Stewart, so far, not talking to the prince.
00:40:03Left hand lands for Nassim.
00:40:05And the number.
00:40:07He was caught by a straight right hand himself.
00:40:09Yeah, first time he took a good punch to the head.
00:40:14And there he goes to the body.
00:40:17But it's not necessary that he integrated all that body punching into his style.
00:40:21It let it come in the flow.
00:40:25You want him to headhunt the Yorkshire hunter?
00:40:28Yeah.
00:40:29Go after him, and then if you're able to get a body shot, just remind him of it.
00:40:32But don't have him going out doing things he's not accustomed to.
00:40:35There's a trickle of blood from the right nostril of the prince.
00:40:44With right hand counter for Nassim.
00:40:47Engel becoming much more aggressive now around four.
00:40:49He keeps all his punches up.
00:40:50He's in success.
00:40:51I hear exactly what you're saying, George.
00:41:01You think that Nassim's a lot better off if he just follows his instincts in there,
00:41:05because you can almost see him trying to think his way through what his new trainer wants him to do.
00:41:09Well, see, when you're thinking body punching, you automatically bend your face down.
00:41:14That's why you see the bleeding of the nose.
00:41:15So Engel begins to mount an attack after having been frustrated through the first three rounds by the elusiveness of the prince.
00:41:29In the last round, he got up to 57 thrown punches.
00:41:33This will be the first round in which he's landed a double-figure number of punches.
00:41:37Engel must be in great shape to be going at this rate.
00:41:54April and May boxing on HBO.
00:41:56Next Saturday night, Boxing After Dark presents one of its all-time best lineups.
00:41:59Its lightweight champion, Shane Mosley, takes on John Brown.
00:42:03What a fight, plus a battle between two well-known lightweight warriors, Ivan Robinson and Angel Manfredi.
00:42:09In May, it only gets better.
00:42:10When Oscar Deloia, coming off his split decision victory over Ike Quarte, good left hook, Oscar,
00:42:15defends his welterweight title against veteran Oba Khan.
00:42:17Also featured super featherweight champion Floyd Mayweather against Goyo Vargas.
00:42:22Then one week later, on the 29th, boxing's other premier welterweight champion, Felix Trinidad,
00:42:27last seen dominating Brunel Whitaker in Madison Square Garden.
00:42:30This time, he'll beat Vincent Pettway in San Juan, Puerto Rico, April and May boxing on HBO.
00:42:45And now, for the first time, we can see Emmanuel Stewart beginning to talk to Prince Nassim Ahmed between rounds.
00:42:54Engel landed 13 of 57 punches in round four.
00:42:57That's by far his best round in the bout.
00:43:00Prince Nassim, 18 of 65 by CompuVox numbers, most of them power shots as usual.
00:43:08Engel is doing something I like.
00:43:10You get a guy, basically, who's a boxer, who possesses a punch, make him come after you.
00:43:19Throws away a lot of punching power, make him follow you around.
00:43:22He's going to stay.
00:43:39Beforehand, Prince would get a rhythm to it.
00:43:41He'd hit you with two to the right.
00:43:43Then he'd throw a power shot.
00:43:44All that rhythm factor he has is going.
00:43:47He lands two lefts, including one to the body.
00:43:50Engel comes back with a couple of left hands
00:43:52as Nassim stalked and looked for a chance to throw a right.
00:43:55Prince Nassim changing his lead foot from time to time.
00:43:58Now goes into a conventional stance.
00:44:01On paper, he's a southpaw.
00:44:03In reality, he's whatever he feels like at any given moment.
00:44:06Yep, but he's...
00:44:07The rhythm that he possesses,
00:44:08he would always do one, two, three-something.
00:44:12Now he's just waiting for one shot here and there.
00:44:17Ingle himself is a natural southpaw.
00:44:21Rights and brushes his teeth with his left hand,
00:44:24but fights, as you can see, out of a conventional stance,
00:44:26and that helps his jab and his hook.
00:44:38Nassim's right uppercut was blocked by Ingle's glove,
00:44:41but he lands the left as Ingle continues to stalk
00:44:44and look for bigger opportunities.
00:44:47Now he's missing with the uppercuts,
00:44:50but if he lands one, he's gonna score.
00:44:56Ingle reaching the far right to the body.
00:44:59Seems to feel as though he's weathered the early power score.
00:45:04Remember, Prince Nassim knocked Ingle down
00:45:07with a left hand in round one.
00:45:09A double left, really, one to the body and one to the face.
00:45:11Slight welt under the right eye of the prince.
00:45:19A lot of that has to do with him reaching in for those body shots.
00:45:22Everything else he does is solid reflex,
00:45:26but when he goes to the body, it's a reach forward.
00:45:31Crowd kind of sitting back in its seats now
00:45:34as the action slows in round five.
00:45:37Nass going back to his elusiveness
00:45:39to stay away from Ingle,
00:45:41who landed enough in the fourth and fifth
00:45:44to get Nass' attention.
00:45:46Now Nass is doing his thing.
00:45:48Put your hands down.
00:45:49Relax.
00:45:53That was boring.
00:45:54Earlier tonight, we had some excitement.
00:46:00Junior Jones fighting on the undercard
00:46:02against a little-known Coventry Englishman
00:46:05named Richard Ebbett.
00:46:06In the first round,
00:46:07Ebbett, with the tiger-striped hair,
00:46:09put Junior down.
00:46:11And in round four,
00:46:12already behind on the scorecards,
00:46:14Jones was penalized a point for holding
00:46:16by English referee Paul Thomas.
00:46:19In round eight,
00:46:20they stood toe-to-toe and went at each other,
00:46:22and Ebbett landed a right hand
00:46:24that again put Junior Jones seemingly in trouble.
00:46:28But in round 11,
00:46:28trailing on two scorecards
00:46:30and with his career hanging in the balance,
00:46:32the former two-time world champion Junior Jones
00:46:34landed a clean left-hand shot
00:46:37that put Richard Ebbett down and out.
00:46:41And he won the fight,
00:46:42although, as you see,
00:46:43going into the 11th,
00:46:44Jones trailed on two of the three scorecards
00:46:48and seemed, in our eyes,
00:46:50headed toward defeat.
00:46:51Yeah, he looked like a shock fighter
00:46:53for ten rounds,
00:46:54but found some ammunition,
00:46:57reloaded, and unloaded.
00:46:58And landed a shot in the dark
00:47:00to salvage, for the moment,
00:47:02his career.
00:47:07Round six,
00:47:09Prince Nassim,
00:47:10with a whitewash so far
00:47:11on Harold Lederman's guard.
00:47:12He's won every one of the five rounds
00:47:14as we come toward the midway point of the bout.
00:47:18When you've boasted of your greatness,
00:47:21when you've told everybody
00:47:22you're the second coming of Muhammad Ali,
00:47:25you create a very high standard,
00:47:27and that's how he's going to be judged.
00:47:29He could win this fight 12 rounds to nine,
00:47:32but if he doesn't put more hurt on Engel,
00:47:35doesn't stop him,
00:47:36it will not be
00:47:38a victory
00:47:40as far as the media
00:47:41and the fans are concerned.
00:47:43And will it be a moral victory
00:47:44for Paul Engel?
00:47:45Well, of course.
00:47:45I mean, it's a win.
00:47:47You go on to the next fight,
00:47:48can't knock everybody out,
00:47:50but Prince has established himself
00:47:52in such a way
00:47:53that that is
00:47:54the high expectations of him.
00:47:56Did McCullough,
00:47:57though he won very few rounds,
00:47:59get a moral victory
00:48:00for going the distance
00:48:00against the Prince
00:48:01last Halloween?
00:48:02Well, in a sense,
00:48:03he's earned a fight
00:48:04with Eric Morales,
00:48:05the wonderful
00:48:06junior featherweight champion
00:48:08in May.
00:48:09So that showing
00:48:10helped him.
00:48:13You've got to remember,
00:48:14Muhammad Ali
00:48:15got a lot of decisions.
00:48:16What he did
00:48:16was to shuffle
00:48:17in between the rounds
00:48:18to make him
00:48:19keep himself popular.
00:48:20The knockouts
00:48:21don't come for a lot.
00:48:23It's almost a fluke
00:48:24that happens
00:48:24beyond your expectations.
00:48:26Yeah, when he had
00:48:2718 in a row, George.
00:48:29I've had 30 of them
00:48:30in a row.
00:48:31It doesn't mean a thing.
00:48:32Winning that big W.
00:48:35That's what we come to see.
00:48:37I agree with you.
00:48:38We're talking about
00:48:39a fighter whose
00:48:40popularity is what counts.
00:48:42It's what puts people
00:48:44into the seats
00:48:45to want to watch him.
00:48:47George, you had
00:48:4830 knockouts in a row.
00:48:49Nassim is landing
00:48:50a lot of shots
00:48:51in this round, incidentally.
00:48:52You had 30 KOs in a row
00:48:54and the highest knockout
00:48:55percentage of any
00:48:56heavyweight champion.
00:48:57Can you honestly tell me
00:48:58you were just as happy
00:48:59with the 12-round
00:49:00decision victories?
00:49:01Yeah, I went to
00:49:0212-round distance
00:49:03with Evander Holyfield,
00:49:05for instance.
00:49:06Seemed like I got
00:49:07a hand up
00:49:07because I did it.
00:49:08So people are not
00:49:09looking for a knockout.
00:49:10They dress up,
00:49:11put on their suits
00:49:12and sit down
00:49:12and watch a fight.
00:49:13If they get a knockout,
00:49:14good.
00:49:17What tells the story?
00:49:19We'll see after the night
00:49:20with the ratings.
00:49:22How many seats
00:49:23were about to have been?
00:49:23Well, I think it sort of
00:49:24depends on how you sell it.
00:49:25You never went out
00:49:26of your way,
00:49:27as the Prince does,
00:49:28style yourself a knockout artist
00:49:30say you were going to
00:49:31dominate your opponent.
00:49:32The body shot in it again.
00:49:34Second vicious left-hand
00:49:36body shot of the evening
00:49:37for Nassim.
00:49:38You can't catch his wind.
00:49:41That's a hard shot
00:49:42to recover from.
00:49:43Only 10 seconds
00:49:44left in the round.
00:49:45Let's see if Nass
00:49:45launched as a Wilder.
00:49:48Went back to the body.
00:49:51With both hands
00:49:52to the body.
00:49:53And really hurt Engel
00:49:55as the sixth round
00:49:56comes to a close.
00:49:58That's what they came
00:49:59to see, George.
00:50:00That's right.
00:50:02That's right.
00:50:04But they would love
00:50:05to see it for 12 rounds.
00:50:07That's what we want, okay?
00:50:09Deep breath.
00:50:10Come on, give me deep breath.
00:50:11Give me deep breath.
00:50:12Come on, come on.
00:50:12Give me deep breath.
00:50:13Give me deep breath.
00:50:14All right, see?
00:50:15So now we're having fun.
00:50:17Okay, baby?
00:50:18Now we're having fun.
00:50:18Okay?
00:50:19Another deep breath.
00:50:21Another deep, baby.
00:50:22Come on.
00:50:22A little deep.
00:50:23Yeah, there you are.
00:50:23Okay, Jeff.
00:50:24I got no call, right?
00:50:25No.
00:50:26Beautiful.
00:50:33Left to the body,
00:50:34something we didn't see
00:50:35the prints do much of
00:50:38in the past.
00:50:39There's no opening up top
00:50:40because of the defense of Engel.
00:50:42That body punch
00:50:43put a hurtin' look
00:50:45on Engel's face.
00:50:46And it was done
00:50:47right in the floor of things.
00:50:48He didn't aim for it.
00:50:49He just let it happen.
00:50:50That facial expression
00:50:51from Engel tells you
00:50:52everything you need to know
00:50:53about the natural
00:50:54punting power
00:50:55of Prince Nassim.
00:50:56Some fighters just have
00:50:58heavy hands
00:50:58and he is a case in point.
00:51:01What we wonder now
00:51:02is whether he'll bring
00:51:03his right hand down
00:51:04and leave his jaw open.
00:51:07Harold, how do you have it?
00:51:08Through six.
00:51:09Jim, 60 to 52,
00:51:10six rats to death
00:51:11on Prince Nassim Hamed.
00:51:12Jim, let me tell you something.
00:51:13The knockdown,
00:51:14he knocked him down
00:51:15with a left hook.
00:51:16That means he was fighting
00:51:16out of the right-handed stance.
00:51:17He switched it right
00:51:18and lefty very often
00:51:19and he's very effective
00:51:20about it.
00:51:22He's now back
00:51:23in the southpaw stance
00:51:24so left hands here
00:51:25are crosses.
00:51:26Either way,
00:51:27they're effective.
00:51:28And while he does
00:51:30generate power
00:51:30with the right hand,
00:51:31the more we watch him,
00:51:32the more it seems
00:51:33that the left
00:51:34is his thunder and lightning.
00:51:38Engel landed
00:51:38a nice right hand
00:51:39while we were chatting,
00:51:42talking heads here.
00:51:48Tough kid, Engel.
00:51:49Engel is keeping
00:51:51his gloves up high
00:51:52so a lot of the power
00:51:53is going off
00:51:53being absorbed
00:51:54in the gloves.
00:51:56Well, and you might
00:51:57have heard Nass
00:51:58bragging to the new trainer
00:51:59about his body shots
00:52:00as he went back
00:52:01after round six.
00:52:03He's sort of like a kid
00:52:04with a new toy
00:52:05with these body shots.
00:52:07Fascinated to see
00:52:08how easily he can hurt
00:52:09Engel to the rib cage.
00:52:13There's the old Nass.
00:52:16Wild, off balance,
00:52:17and effective.
00:52:26And the crowd
00:52:27cheers mightily
00:52:28and Nass smiles
00:52:29as Engel lands
00:52:30a right hand.
00:52:31It was a good right hand
00:52:32by Engel.
00:52:32All those body shots.
00:52:44When he doubles up
00:52:45with the left hand
00:52:46and comes back
00:52:47to the body,
00:52:48he is doing some damage
00:52:49to Paul Engel.
00:52:50Engel lands a left
00:52:51and another left.
00:52:53So Engel making
00:52:54a nice little comeback
00:52:55in this round
00:52:56after having been
00:52:57knocked down
00:52:57in round six.
00:52:58ready to Nass's nose
00:53:01once again.
00:53:09Now,
00:53:10the prince is using
00:53:11his rhythm.
00:53:13Goes one side with power,
00:53:14same side with power,
00:53:15and then come back
00:53:16with another shot
00:53:17with another hand.
00:53:19And Engel starting to tire
00:53:21as he landed a shot
00:53:22well below Mazz's waist
00:53:24on his hip.
00:53:28But he doesn't tire much,
00:53:30does he?
00:53:30Keeps those feet going.
00:53:32High intensity,
00:53:34rapid pace.
00:53:35He just can't throw
00:53:35as many punches
00:53:36as he expected to throw
00:53:37against Prince Nassim.
00:53:39When you throw
00:53:39that many body punches
00:53:40that the prince has thrown,
00:53:42you bound to lay in
00:53:43on those elbows
00:53:43a few times.
00:53:44By the time this fighter's over,
00:53:46he's gonna have
00:53:46some sore hands.
00:53:47He says
00:53:50that he broke
00:53:51his left hand
00:53:52as early as
00:53:53the third round
00:53:54against Wayne McCullough,
00:53:55though we know
00:53:56of no procedure
00:53:57or split
00:53:57that he wore
00:53:58after the fight.
00:54:07That's when you're in danger.
00:54:09You're getting underneath,
00:54:10well,
00:54:10you've got to close you up
00:54:11and then start driving in.
00:54:12Start driving in.
00:54:13Don't be gentle.
00:54:13Be rough.
00:54:14Don't be fucking gentle.
00:54:15This is a fucking man's game.
00:54:16Get in there
00:54:17and right there comes
00:54:18elbow,
00:54:18shoulder,
00:54:19the lock.
00:54:19Take his balance.
00:54:20Take his balance
00:54:21and step on him.
00:54:22Take his balance
00:54:22and step on him.
00:54:23His mouth is open
00:54:24like a train.
00:54:24He's only trying
00:54:25in but he's just...
00:54:25Watch him, watch him.
00:54:26He's getting frustrated
00:54:27to block it.
00:54:28I'm telling you,
00:54:28you're frustrating
00:54:29because he can't
00:54:29hit you.
00:54:29He's trying to put
00:54:30the bombs on.
00:54:31Now he's trying
00:54:31to just flick off
00:54:32and he's trying
00:54:32to measure you up.
00:54:33Just keep that head
00:54:34moving.
00:54:34Keep fainting him off
00:54:35and draining.
00:54:36Start telling...
00:54:36Take a hand to scoop
00:54:37and do it right
00:54:37to the middle
00:54:38and he's gonna go down.
00:54:39Okay.
00:54:39Big gap he's giving
00:54:40because you're not
00:54:41operating inside.
00:54:42You're doing everything
00:54:43with outside.
00:54:45You're so fucking strong
00:54:46that you're twisting
00:54:47him around
00:54:47but you're not doing
00:54:48the clean.
00:54:50You heard from
00:54:52Engel's corner.
00:54:53They're very excited.
00:54:54That was probably
00:54:55Engel's first round
00:54:57and you heard
00:54:58Emmanuel Lewis
00:54:59in the prince's corner
00:55:01saying you've got to
00:55:02stand there closer
00:55:03and you've got him
00:55:04which is just what he did.
00:55:07Yeah, if you're
00:55:08a ringside judge
00:55:08and you were looking
00:55:09hard for a round
00:55:10to give to Engel,
00:55:10round seven would
00:55:11probably have been
00:55:12your choice.
00:55:13Punched at numbers,
00:55:14Hamad landed 26 of 64,
00:55:16Engel 16 of 61.
00:55:18So at least
00:55:19he was in the round.
00:55:25Emmanuel Stewart
00:55:26and Prince Nassim
00:55:28both claim
00:55:29that they have no plans
00:55:30to do any future
00:55:31business together
00:55:32but here's Emmanuel
00:55:34in the corner tonight.
00:55:35Let's see what happens
00:55:36down the road.
00:55:37Naz is pretty good friends
00:55:38with heavyweight champion
00:55:39Lennox Lewis
00:55:40and says that he spoke
00:55:41to Lewis just three days
00:55:43ago as he got ready
00:55:44for this fight.
00:55:51Engel couch
00:55:52with Prince napping
00:55:53a little bit.
00:55:55That's what happened
00:55:56in your corner
00:55:57tells you to get in
00:55:58and go straight punches,
00:55:59get a little closer.
00:56:00You start thinking
00:56:01about all of this foolishness
00:56:02and you find yourself
00:56:03waiting for something.
00:56:06You can hit yourself.
00:56:07Let it happen
00:56:07in the floor thing.
00:56:09Prince Nassim produced
00:56:10two eighth round knockouts
00:56:11in his career.
00:56:12He knocked out both
00:56:13Steve Robinson
00:56:13and Tom Newboden Johnson
00:56:15in round eight.
00:56:16He had an 11th round
00:56:18knockout of Manuel Medina
00:56:19back in 1996.
00:56:20Those are the only
00:56:21three knockouts
00:56:22which have come
00:56:22this late in about.
00:56:23And now Joe Cortez
00:56:27stopped the action
00:56:28to allow Engel
00:56:31to recover
00:56:32from low blows.
00:56:33Okay.
00:56:35I think it was
00:56:36the mouthpiece.
00:56:36Oh, that's it.
00:56:37The mouthpiece.
00:56:38Okay, excuse me.
00:56:40Prince's mouthpiece
00:56:41replaced.
00:56:43You see,
00:56:44when a corner man
00:56:44tell you to do something,
00:56:45sometimes you got to
00:56:46stop what you were doing
00:56:47and wait
00:56:48and look for it.
00:56:51You got to be careful
00:56:52how you say it.
00:56:52It's not what you say,
00:56:53but how you say it.
00:57:06Judging from the look
00:57:07on his face
00:57:07between rounds,
00:57:08I'm not sure Engel
00:57:09felt as encouraged
00:57:10as his corner did
00:57:11by the events
00:57:12of round seven.
00:57:14Well, that's the job
00:57:15on the corner
00:57:15is to make you feel
00:57:17like you're winning
00:57:17the fight.
00:57:18You can lose every round
00:57:19but the corner said,
00:57:20boy, you're doing great.
00:57:21Something can happen.
00:57:24Did Dick Sadler
00:57:24used to do that for you?
00:57:26No, I didn't go
00:57:27many rounds.
00:57:29Engel's the kind of kid
00:57:30who would start a fight
00:57:31in an empty room.
00:57:33He really wants
00:57:34to try to do it,
00:57:35but it's very hard
00:57:36to do what you'd like
00:57:37to do against a fighter
00:57:39of Nassim's style,
00:57:41power, and quickness.
00:57:42Yeah, he really wants
00:57:43to fight.
00:57:49Good right hand by hand.
00:57:53Nass slowing down
00:57:54a little bit
00:57:55and the numbers say so.
00:58:23And why are there
00:58:24so few black faces
00:58:25on the track
00:58:25or in the stands?
00:58:27Also, an investigation
00:58:28into the billion-dollar business
00:58:29of counterfeit golf clubs.
00:58:31Only a billion?
00:58:32Plus a look at pitcher
00:58:33David Cohn
00:58:34quickly developing
00:58:35into one of baseball's
00:58:36most outspoken citizens.
00:58:38Real sports
00:58:39where nothing
00:58:40is out of bounds.
00:58:41Yeah, because it follows him.
00:58:46He doesn't know
00:58:47how to have a jab
00:58:47when it comes from a southpaw.
00:58:49Uh-huh.
00:58:49It's different if he was
00:58:50picking it and returning,
00:58:51but he doesn't do anything.
00:58:51Yeah, baby.
00:58:52He's confused.
00:58:53Just keep playing with it
00:58:53with the jab.
00:58:54He just started it, please.
00:58:56Ahmed has found something
00:58:57with the body punch.
00:59:00The only way to go
00:59:01when a fighter
00:59:02is protecting his head
00:59:04that way.
00:59:05But right after that punch,
00:59:07Ahmed lost his mouthpiece.
00:59:09And if you were listening,
00:59:11you noticed that
00:59:12the, uh,
00:59:13the gag order is off
00:59:15for Emanuel Stewart,
00:59:16who is now talking
00:59:17a blue streak
00:59:18to Prince Nassim Ahmed.
00:59:19He tried his best to be quiet.
00:59:22Well, but the most
00:59:24fascinating thing
00:59:25about this is
00:59:26is that he's not
00:59:27getting paid for this.
00:59:29Stewart is the kind of guy
00:59:31who would go and do a round
00:59:32for someone for free
00:59:33all the time.
00:59:34Yeah, but...
00:59:35Like Angelo Dundee.
00:59:35They love this.
00:59:37A couple of fighters
00:59:38who were paying him
00:59:39a lot of money
00:59:40decided they didn't want
00:59:41to pay him all
00:59:41that money anymore.
00:59:44There are many
00:59:44who believe
00:59:45Emanuel Stewart
00:59:46is the best trainer
00:59:47in boxing.
00:59:48There are at least
00:59:48as many who believe
00:59:49he is the best self-promoter
00:59:51among trainers.
00:59:53All of the above.
00:59:56Angelo busier
00:59:57and busier now
00:59:58as we get into
00:59:59the later rounds.
01:00:01Nassim hot-shotting,
01:00:03but slowing
01:00:04his own pace.
01:00:05Well, he's having
01:00:06some problems
01:00:06with his bleeding.
01:00:08A lot of the...
01:00:09He has to pay the price
01:00:11for all of that
01:00:11body hunting early on.
01:00:15And the decision victory
01:00:17over McCullough
01:00:18rubbed a little
01:00:19of the bloom
01:00:20off of Nassim Hamed's road.
01:00:23What would two straight
01:00:24group-going performances do?
01:00:27Oh, good left hand
01:00:29by Engel.
01:00:38Engel still wobbling
01:00:39a little bit
01:00:40with the left hand.
01:00:41Body shot from the head.
01:00:44Prince Nassim
01:00:45a little bit more active,
01:00:47but not so intense
01:00:49that he seems to indicate
01:00:50he's desperately
01:00:51trying to finish.
01:00:53Surely he knows
01:00:53he's well ahead
01:00:54in the back.
01:00:56He is so on
01:00:56body punching this time.
01:00:58Isn't he, though?
01:00:59Yes.
01:01:00And Cortez is doing
01:01:01a great job
01:01:02of forcing this fight
01:01:03and staying out
01:01:04of the way.
01:01:06Cortez is a terrific
01:01:07referee.
01:01:08I totally agree
01:01:08with you about that.
01:01:10He handled
01:01:11the Nassim McCullough
01:01:12fight in Atlantic City
01:01:13as well.
01:01:14Folks,
01:01:16a fight breaking
01:01:17out here.
01:01:20Nassim's face
01:01:21is starting to look
01:01:23like a fighter.
01:01:24Like a fighter, yeah.
01:01:29Now, for the first time,
01:01:31we see footwork
01:01:31by Nassim.
01:01:34There's nothing wrong
01:01:35with moving
01:01:35out of the way.
01:01:36Let's remember
01:01:37that at the start
01:01:38of this round
01:01:39that Emmanuel Stewart
01:01:41told him to stand
01:01:42in there and go.
01:01:45All of a sudden,
01:01:46the prince has decided,
01:01:47wait, let me get
01:01:48out of here.
01:01:50Because look what
01:01:51happened when I stood
01:01:52in there.
01:01:52He's got a bloody nose
01:01:53and a bloody neck.
01:01:54When you start
01:01:55passing blood
01:01:56out of your mouth
01:01:56and nose like that,
01:01:57you have a problem
01:01:58bleeding, I mean,
01:01:59breathing.
01:02:00And that's what
01:02:00is happening now.
01:02:01And he's not used
01:02:03to it.
01:02:03He's never been caught.
01:02:04So he's not
01:02:06particularly accustomed
01:02:07to tasting
01:02:08or seeing his own blood.
01:02:09It's a new experience
01:02:10for him.
01:02:11And Engel celebrates
01:02:12the appearance
01:02:13of the blood.
01:02:13And Hamid shook
01:02:15his head
01:02:15saying to good rounds.
01:02:17Everything is okay,
01:02:18okay?
01:02:19Don't worry about it.
01:02:19Man, this is when
01:02:21the chatter should
01:02:22stop in the corner.
01:02:23Man, I thought
01:02:23you were going to
01:02:24roll the...
01:02:24He's going to say
01:02:25we lost that round.
01:02:26Yeah.
01:02:26We lost that round,
01:02:27okay?
01:02:27Okay.
01:02:28You got to go
01:02:29through the middle.
01:02:29You got a wide open
01:02:30gap.
01:02:31Shoot that hard left
01:02:31hand through the middle,
01:02:32man.
01:02:33The outside force
01:02:34is all down here
01:02:34and he's catching
01:02:35him.
01:02:35Yeah.
01:02:36And he's there.
01:02:36He's coming back
01:02:37because you see
01:02:38your time
01:02:38when you finish up.
01:02:39You're hung out.
01:02:40You're making him
01:02:40work through the middle.
01:02:41You got a road,
01:02:42man.
01:02:42You get set it
01:02:44for right.
01:02:45Look now.
01:02:45Right between this...
01:02:46It's going to be dangerous
01:02:52for the first 30 seconds
01:02:53now.
01:02:54Each round,
01:02:55each 30 seconds,
01:02:56stand off,
01:02:56draw him off
01:02:57until he starts
01:02:58drawing down a bit.
01:02:59Don't start putting it on.
01:03:00When you're putting it on
01:03:01now,
01:03:01you've got to tell
01:03:02you've never done it.
01:03:04Keep that pressure
01:03:04there.
01:03:05Keep that fucking
01:03:06pressure there, Paul.
01:03:07Let's go!
01:03:07Let's go!
01:03:09Trainer telling
01:03:10Engel,
01:03:11give it a little bit
01:03:12of time.
01:03:13Don't come right out
01:03:14as the round goes on.
01:03:16Put more pressure on.
01:03:20Harold,
01:03:20how do you have it
01:03:20scored through nine?
01:03:2288, 81,
01:03:23seven routes to two.
01:03:24Prince Nassim Ahmed.
01:03:25He's got a seven-point lead,
01:03:26Jim.
01:03:27Paul Engel's got to do
01:03:27something dramatic
01:03:28in the last three rounds.
01:03:29Watch the Prince's right,
01:03:30Jim.
01:03:31Joe Cortez can't make
01:03:31him to smile.
01:03:32If it's a back angle,
01:03:33you're not allowed
01:03:33to back end the guy.
01:03:34Watch the light hits
01:03:35that bell goes
01:03:35Dingle in the league.
01:03:36You can't hit him
01:03:37after the first thing
01:03:38in the league.
01:03:39For the first time
01:03:39in the fight,
01:03:40Engel,
01:03:40by CompuBox numbers,
01:03:42had the edge
01:03:42in power shots
01:03:43in round number nine.
01:03:45So he's won
01:03:46at least a couple
01:03:47of rounds,
01:03:47or so it would appear.
01:03:48How close are
01:03:49the judges' scorecards?
01:03:50Sometimes closer
01:03:51than Harold's.
01:03:55Two judges
01:03:55from England tonight,
01:03:57one from Florida.
01:03:59Florida, I should say,
01:04:00in the USA.
01:04:02A lot of this
01:04:03has to do
01:04:04with the wrong guys
01:04:04in your corner
01:04:05talking too much.
01:04:07Well, you heard
01:04:07Emmanuel Stewart say,
01:04:09fire the left-hand shot
01:04:10straight up the middle,
01:04:11and Prince Nassim
01:04:12just tried.
01:04:13Two straight left hands
01:04:14up the middle.
01:04:15All right,
01:04:15and Engel's,
01:04:16Engel's trainer,
01:04:18Steve Pollard said,
01:04:20it's gonna be dangerous
01:04:21as you go in.
01:04:23He knows that
01:04:24this is the most
01:04:25dangerous time
01:04:26when you're trying
01:04:27to put the pressure
01:04:27at the end of a fight
01:04:29on a puncher.
01:04:31Well, amazingly,
01:04:32Pollard is on record
01:04:33before the fighters
01:04:34having said,
01:04:35it's undoubting
01:04:37that if Nassim
01:04:38catches my man
01:04:39with a clean shot,
01:04:39my guy's going down.
01:04:41I want him
01:04:42to know that.
01:04:47I can tell you this.
01:04:49The corners over there
01:04:50has confused
01:04:51this guy
01:04:52an awful lot.
01:04:54You mean the Prince?
01:04:55Yeah,
01:04:55he's been awfully
01:04:56confused tonight,
01:04:57standing around
01:04:58trying to do
01:04:58what they told him
01:04:59to do.
01:05:00There are a lot
01:05:01of Yorks in the crowd
01:05:02rooting for Paul Engel,
01:05:04rooting against
01:05:05Prince Nassim,
01:05:06and Engel's
01:05:07having his moments
01:05:08once again
01:05:08in round number 10.
01:05:20Engel's like
01:05:21Prince Nassim
01:05:22used to be
01:05:22with Brendan Engel
01:05:23in the sense
01:05:24that he's listened
01:05:24to the same trainer
01:05:25his whole professional career.
01:05:27The only voice
01:05:28he's ever heard
01:05:29in the corner
01:05:29is Steve Collard.
01:05:33Ralph Dunn,
01:05:34Nassim almost went down.
01:05:37He was off balance
01:05:38as is so frequently
01:05:39the case.
01:05:39Engel is landing
01:05:40his right-hand shot
01:05:42fairly freely now
01:05:44as he comes back
01:05:45in the latter stages
01:05:47of the fight.
01:05:48Prince has never been
01:05:49in this kind of a war.
01:05:55Not over a distance,
01:05:56of course,
01:05:57his fight with Kelly
01:05:57was a short,
01:05:59intense war.
01:06:02He's got one solid pilot
01:06:04in front of him
01:06:05that ground engel.
01:06:09It'll be ruled a slip,
01:06:11and round 10
01:06:13comes to a close.
01:06:14And for showmanship
01:06:16effect,
01:06:17Nassim flips up,
01:06:18or kips up,
01:06:19I should say,
01:06:20from the mat.
01:06:21An old gymnastics move.
01:06:24And Cortez now allows
01:06:25the round to come
01:06:26to a close.
01:06:31Another man is going
01:06:32to the prince's corner.
01:06:34His father had some
01:06:35advice for him.
01:06:36He's looking for the man.
01:06:37You've got to see what's happening.
01:06:38After you finish up
01:06:39the punches,
01:06:40you're going to do this.
01:06:41That's what he's going to take.
01:06:42You know what I'm saying?
01:06:43No shots, baby.
01:06:43After you finish your punches,
01:06:45you're laying out,
01:06:46okay, you're tying you.
01:06:47If you just work
01:06:48your right jab,
01:06:49you can win the fight.
01:06:50You don't have to just
01:06:51work the jab,
01:06:52you can straighten up
01:06:53hands between the middle
01:06:54club.
01:06:54Just work the jab,
01:06:56jab, jab, jab.
01:06:56You're going to do this.
01:07:00Work the right jab.
01:07:02The prince getting
01:07:03a little tired.
01:07:04Catches that big right hand,
01:07:06shook him,
01:07:07turned his head
01:07:0890 degrees.
01:07:09Or more.
01:07:11Round 10,
01:07:12a big round
01:07:13for Paul Engle,
01:07:15who by CompuBox numbers
01:07:16landed 26 of 68,
01:07:19to 16 of 51
01:07:20for the prince
01:07:20and had a 23 to 9
01:07:21edge in power shot.
01:07:23So the momentum
01:07:23of the bout
01:07:24belongs to the underdog,
01:07:26Paul Engle,
01:07:27as we go into
01:07:28the championship round,
01:07:2911 and 12.
01:07:34And it looks as though
01:07:36the prince has decided
01:07:38to freeze the ball.
01:07:40Asim's insurance,
01:07:41he has scored two
01:07:42knockdowns in the bout
01:07:44against Engle.
01:07:46He's the better boxer,
01:07:47so he should win this fight.
01:07:49And if a knockout
01:07:50presented itself,
01:07:51let it happen.
01:07:52Here's the third knockdown.
01:07:55And Pollard told Engle
01:07:56it would be dangerous.
01:08:03And Delcote stops it.
01:08:05Second, 11th round knockout
01:08:09of Prince Nassim's career.
01:08:12The straight left-hand shot
01:08:13of the middle.
01:08:14Too much for Paul Engle
01:08:16in round 11.
01:08:17Way to go.
01:08:18The referee was once again
01:08:20just right on the money.
01:08:21We give the prince credit.
01:08:24Arguably one of his toughest fights.
01:08:27Pulled it together,
01:08:27did the right thing at the end,
01:08:29and still had enough
01:08:30to knock out an overeager opponent.
01:08:32Not before a couple
01:08:35of anxious moments.
01:08:36A couple of rousing celebrations
01:08:38for the Engle Rooters
01:08:40and the crowd.
01:08:42And a longer fight
01:08:43than Nass expected
01:08:44when he told us yesterday,
01:08:46don't blink.
01:08:47But all in all,
01:08:48the power's still there.
01:08:49He knocked Engle down
01:08:50three times,
01:08:52including the last one
01:08:53that sealed the issue.
01:08:56Let's take another look
01:08:58at the knockout, George,
01:08:59on a perfect left-hand shot.
01:09:01Yeah, it was all about
01:09:02moving around.
01:09:03He got his legs together.
01:09:04This guy walked right into it.
01:09:07Yep.
01:09:08I'd like to have seen
01:09:09that a lot earlier.
01:09:10When his legs were moving,
01:09:11he's in charge.
01:09:13Bounce to the left,
01:09:14then throw.
01:09:16Engle, as you've told us
01:09:18so many times,
01:09:19was following a puncher
01:09:20in those last few rounds.
01:09:21Yeah, you gotta make sure
01:09:22that you keep your chin
01:09:24tucked down,
01:09:25but he hit him
01:09:25on top of the head anyway.
01:09:28So Prince Nassim's
01:09:29vaunted power
01:09:30wins the bout for him
01:09:33as referee Joe Cortez
01:09:35decides that Paul Engle
01:09:36is not safe
01:09:38continuing
01:09:39in the 11th round.
01:09:41He beat the count,
01:09:42but he was still wobbling,
01:09:44and it was the third time
01:09:45in the bout
01:09:45that he'd been down.
01:09:47And he kind of
01:09:47fumbled off the ropes.
01:09:48I think that's what
01:09:49made the difference
01:09:49when he was getting up.
01:09:51His hands slid a little
01:09:52bit off the ropes,
01:09:53and that caused the referee
01:09:53to have more concern.
01:09:55Nassim Hamed
01:09:56seemingly struggling
01:09:58to adapt to a new style,
01:10:00new voices in the corner,
01:10:01and new instructions.
01:10:03Nevertheless,
01:10:05although tasting
01:10:06his own blood,
01:10:07pulls it out.
01:10:09And a new knockout streak
01:10:11has begun.
01:10:16Proud back their money's worth.
01:10:18Here's Michael Buffer.
01:10:19And we must indeed
01:10:21give our respects
01:10:23to the man
01:10:23who will not
01:10:24have his hand
01:10:25raised first.
01:10:26A round of applause
01:10:27for this challenger
01:10:28from Scarborough
01:10:30who came here tonight
01:10:31and gave it his awe,
01:10:33Paul Engle.
01:10:39Referee Joe Cortez
01:10:41following the knockdown
01:10:43has to call a halt
01:10:44to the bout.
01:10:45The official time,
01:10:4645 seconds
01:10:48of round number 11,
01:10:50the winner,
01:10:51and still
01:10:52the undefeated
01:10:54WBO
01:10:55coverweight champion
01:10:56of the world,
01:10:58Prince
01:10:59Vim Hammond.
01:11:03Final punch stat numbers
01:11:20from CompuBox. The spirited
01:11:22late round comeback for Engel
01:11:24reducing somewhat more
01:11:26even numbers than would have been the case
01:11:28in the middle rounds, but Nassim
01:11:30nearly doubling Engel's
01:11:32total of landed punches
01:11:33and throwing 110 more
01:11:36punches than the challenger and landing
01:11:38at nearly 40% despite
01:11:40throwing very few jabs,
01:11:42almost all power punches.
01:11:44Well, there you have it,
01:11:46369 power punches. He could throw more
01:11:48jabs than I might have contended would be
01:11:50the case, and
01:11:52many more power punches landed,
01:11:5479 of them in fact, than was the
01:11:56case for Paul Engel.
01:11:58Scorecards had Nassim ahead
01:12:0098-90, 98-91,
01:12:02and 98-91, so he had the bout
01:12:04won had it gone the distance.
01:12:08And now let's go to Larry Merchant
01:12:10with Prince Nassim.
01:12:12Congratulations, Prince.
01:12:14This fight seemed one-sided
01:12:16on the one hand, and a little bit
01:12:18harder work than you might have expected
01:12:20on the other.
01:12:21Yeah, I must admit,
01:12:22Larry, it was harder work than I expected,
01:12:24but to tell you the honest truth,
01:12:26when it came to run about round six,
01:12:28I mean, I really wanted to take him out
01:12:30early, and I thought that I could.
01:12:32And the second round, I nearly had the job done,
01:12:34but, you know,
01:12:36that's how God plans it, that's how God plans it.
01:12:38The sixth round, I hurt my hand bad,
01:12:40I left down, the one that I keep getting the pain
01:12:42with before, I thought it was all right before the fight,
01:12:44which it was.
01:12:45You say you re-injured the left hand,
01:12:48how did it happen?
01:12:50I think I hit him with a straight left,
01:12:51I ran about exactly the same shot that I took him out with,
01:12:55and that same shot in the sixth round hurt me really bad,
01:12:57so I had to use one hand for quite a bit,
01:12:59but I still kept throwing it, but it was hurting me,
01:13:01it was hurting, but you know I've got a heart of a lion,
01:13:03Larry.
01:13:04You were trying some new things,
01:13:07you were hearing new voices in your corner tonight,
01:13:09can you assess how all of that went?
01:13:13You were trying to be more flat-footed at times,
01:13:15you were moving at times,
01:13:16you were blending the two styles,
01:13:18what is your impression?
01:13:19It went brilliant, I think, I enjoyed it in there,
01:13:21it was a great workout,
01:13:22and I took some great advice in the corner,
01:13:24I was really comfortable in my corner,
01:13:26with Oscar Suarez and Emmanuel,
01:13:29it was great, I enjoyed it,
01:13:31but there's still quite a few things I had to learn,
01:13:33and you know, it's my first time I train,
01:13:35only two and a half months,
01:13:36so I've got to get used to exactly training,
01:13:39how we want to just go about everything in training,
01:13:43because the first time I've been training new techniques,
01:13:46you know, and I'm trying them out.
01:13:47But do you want to wind up having to fight an orthodox fight,
01:13:51rather than the unorthodox style,
01:13:53which results in you getting bloody noses,
01:13:56and swollen eyes,
01:13:57and blood all over your face?
01:13:59As long as you've got a heart of a champion,
01:14:01a heart of a lion,
01:14:01and you come through them,
01:14:03it don't really matter.
01:14:04I mean, anything could happen,
01:14:06as long as at the end of the day I come through,
01:14:07I come through,
01:14:08and I thank God, you know,
01:14:08for giving me the strength to take him out in the 11th round.
01:14:11People have got to realize,
01:14:12fighters have got to realize,
01:14:13that I can take you out at any round.
01:14:15Let's go through three of the rounds,
01:14:17and the knockdowns in the first round.
01:14:19You tell us what happened then.
01:14:21Were you surprised that he went down that quickly?
01:14:24No, I mean, I caught him with a body shot,
01:14:25we worked on that shot,
01:14:27Oscar taught me quite a few things with that shot,
01:14:30and it came through.
01:14:31I knew that the body was hurting him,
01:14:34and I've been working to the body, you know.
01:14:36For this, probably you haven't seen me work to the body as much as this,
01:14:39and I've been working great to the body with Oscar and new techniques,
01:14:42and the last knockdown was a wicked knockdown.
01:14:44It just, it just,
01:14:45timber,
01:14:46it just hit him in timber.
01:14:48You said that your left hand was hurting you,
01:14:52that you think you may have broken it,
01:14:54yet you stopped him with the left hand.
01:14:56That's what I'm saying.
01:14:57Don't matter what I've got,
01:14:59don't matter what's hurting me,
01:15:00at the end of the day,
01:15:01I've got the heart of a lion,
01:15:02I've got the belief in God,
01:15:03and I go out there,
01:15:04and I'll hit you with the hand that's hurting me.
01:15:05I don't really care.
01:15:06It comes,
01:15:07even the 11th round,
01:15:08it goes to 11th round,
01:15:09I still take you out.
01:15:10I still win.
01:15:11Who is next on your hit list?
01:15:14Well, you know that I want to unify,
01:15:16I want to become the undisputed featherweight champion in the world,
01:15:18because I believe that I am.
01:15:19I'm the best featherweight in the world,
01:15:21you know?
01:15:22So, I want to box a world champion with another belt,
01:15:24so I can get another belt.
01:15:25Maybe the WBC,
01:15:26the IBF,
01:15:27or the BA,
01:15:28any of them,
01:15:28because I know I'm going to take them out.
01:15:30Thank you very much, Prince,
01:15:31and again, congratulations.
01:15:32You're more than welcome.
01:15:34Jim?
01:15:3732-0.
01:15:38Now the record for Prince Nassim with 29 knockouts.
01:15:42He solidifies his status as the number one featherweight in the sport
01:15:46and looks ahead to what we hope will be a future
01:15:49fighting against the other top featherweights.
01:15:53Well, George,
01:15:54you heard Prince Nassim say that he's happy with his new corner.
01:15:59I don't think you're so sure it was such a good thing.
01:16:01Not at all.
01:16:02You know,
01:16:02that one minute that you have is most of all is to rest and refresh yourself.
01:16:07To me,
01:16:07it resembled,
01:16:08and I've been caught up between a Ford and a Chevrolet dealership,
01:16:11and both trying to sell me a used car at the same time,
01:16:15that's what his corner resembled tonight.
01:16:16That's going to have to be cleaned up if you want to move on with success.
01:16:19Well,
01:16:20whether coincidence or a legitimate product of Emanuel Stewart's instructions,
01:16:26Stewart called for straight left hands.
01:16:28He knocked the guy out with a straight left hand.
01:16:30Now,
01:16:31if Emanuel were to move in and become a fixture in the future,
01:16:34you know Emanuel well,
01:16:35would it be his instinct to try to change the fighter,
01:16:39or would he leave him alone?
01:16:40In the end,
01:16:41the Prince,
01:16:41he's got this knockout just like he's been getting all other knockouts.
01:16:45It didn't seem like the addition of these guys mounted to much anything.
01:16:48He was able to land a few body punches here and there,
01:16:51something new,
01:16:51but in the end,
01:16:52he won this thing for himself the old way that he's been doing it all along.
01:16:56So,
01:16:56he needs those guys for a little input,
01:16:58but too much.
01:16:58Yeah.
01:16:58Yeah.
01:16:59In the corner.
01:16:59It's not good.
01:17:00All right.
01:17:01Well,
01:17:01we'll see how all of that continues to play out over the future upstairs to
01:17:05rejoin us.
01:17:06Now,
01:17:06Larry merchant and Larry,
01:17:07the Prince told us yesterday that if he won this fight,
01:17:10it would be his goal to go out and seek fights against the three title holders
01:17:15from the more notorious governing organizations and become that rarest of
01:17:19commodities,
01:17:20a unified titleist in his weight class.
01:17:23Shall we believe him?
01:17:24I think we can believe him for a couple of reasons.
01:17:28One is,
01:17:29it is a noble ambition these days to want to do that,
01:17:31to want to fight anyone,
01:17:32anywhere,
01:17:33anytime.
01:17:34And he has shown or said he wanted to do that in the past.
01:17:38At the same time,
01:17:39some cynics,
01:17:40and there are cynics in this game might say,
01:17:43well,
01:17:43why don't you fight some of the other guys who aren't champions?
01:17:46Now,
01:17:46Espinosa here is the only one of the top featherweights or the ones that are
01:17:50regarded as the most dangerous featherweights,
01:17:53junior or senior.
01:17:54to have a belt.
01:17:56But Barrera is there,
01:17:57Morales is there,
01:17:59and Marquez,
01:18:00a newcomer who is highly regarded,
01:18:02is also there.
01:18:03And after seeing this fight tonight against the relatively unknown,
01:18:07tough,
01:18:08but limited angle,
01:18:09you wonder,
01:18:10how would he do against those kind of guys?
01:18:12But at the end of the day,
01:18:13what we find out also is that beneath the glitter and the bombast,
01:18:18there is a fighter from Sheffield,
01:18:21New Yorkshire,
01:18:23England.
01:18:23A lot of potential opponents for Prince Nassim Hamed,
01:18:26but if the Mexican,
01:18:28Eric Morales continues to progress the way he has,
01:18:32you have to suspect that somewhere down the road,
01:18:34that's the defining fight.
01:18:36The Oscar De La Hoya versus Felix Trinidad,
01:18:39if you will,
01:18:40of the featherweight division.
01:18:41We'll wait and see,
01:18:42and we'll hope for such combustion.
01:18:45We'll have a final word on what happened here in the ring in Manchester in just a moment.
01:18:48Right now,
01:18:49let's look at just a moment.
01:18:50Right now,
01:18:50let's look ahead.
