Manchester City 1 Wolves 0 - Liam Keen and Nathan Judah analysis
Transcript
00:00Hello Nathan Judo, I'm here with Wolves reporting, Mr. Liam Key, Liam full-time, Manchester City 1, Wolves 0, Wolves had the chances on the night, but ultimately it all just felt a little bit flat.
00:20Yeah, I think that's the right way to describe it, Wolves didn't disgrace themselves by any means, but they definitely weren't at their best, they had a really good spell in that first half, with two chances they did score, or did have rather, and should have scored, the first one, Bellegarde, I mean it's an unbelievable pass from Cunha, to find Bellegarde, and he has to shoot, in my opinion, he has to shoot, and if he doesn't, you cannot afford to get the pass from him, the pass is not a horrendous option, in my opinion he should shoot, it's not a horrendous option,
00:49but it's too quick, it's too far in front of Minetsi, and he can't get to it, but that should be 1-0 without a count, and then 8-0, he doesn't do a lot wrong really, with his chance, hits the post first with a decent effort, Gavardio gets in to block the rebound on the line, and Wolves had two massive chances, should have been 1-0 up, they concede a relatively poor goal really, giving it away, Andre, I thought was brilliant in that first half, gives it away midfield, Wolves defensively don't really react quick enough, and concedes to De Bruyne, and from there, you're just hoping they can just up the tempo a little bit,
01:18con you attempted to with a shot in the second half, hit to the post, otherwise Wolves didn't have a lot, but also, City didn't really test Jose Sar a lot either, it was a game really, of two decent teams, not performing at their optimum, and it was a poor watch really.
01:33Yeah, no, it was a poor watch, especially in that second half, and you just felt that, like you say, when De Bruyne had scored, Wolves just went into the shell, and second half, you expect them, okay, it was a good time for them to go in, because City were piling on the pressure, you think, okay, they've got into half-time, they're only 1-0 down, you know that 1-0 is a slender lead, you know that this stadium started to get a bit nervy, the play started to get a bit nervy, it's a massive game for Manchester City in terms of them reaching the Champions League, but Wolves never put the pressure on them, and I think that's the frustrating thing tonight.
02:02Look, Jürgen Strand-Larsen missed the game, I think he was a big miss tonight, I think you can say that, you could see the team out there, Matthias Cunha substituted in the end tonight as well, so you could see what a loss that was, but at the same time, five substitutes were used, and no one really made that impact tonight, did they?
02:17No, no, I thought Rodrigo got into a couple decent areas, that right wing back, particularly late on, Srabi had picked up a couple of okay positions in between the lines and started getting Wolves ticking, but Vito Pereira sort of threw all the players he could off the bench on to try and just impact in any way, just to light this game up, and no one really took the chance, and that's probably one of the disappointing things alongside the performance overall,
02:47he comes off the bench, makes a run at the end and wins a corner, but doesn't really do a lot else, Guedes I thought was sloppy when he came on, giving the ball away, another player who had a chance, an opportunity there, so, yeah, not Wolves' best night, but look,
02:59you've got to put it into context, they weren't beaten in seven, winning six in a row coming into this game, they could have
03:05equaled their best ever top flight winning record of seven for 1946, but at no point during that game, even with plenty of time to play, did either of us think Wolves would win the game,
03:15it was just one of those where they just weren't at the races, barring a decent spell in that first half, and even though City weren't anywhere near their best either,
03:23they did enough to win the game.
03:25Yeah, I guess that's a frustrating thing, isn't it, because you can go here and play, like, it's been really disappointing,
03:28they were a lot better than what they have been in the last two seasons, but he just wanted someone to take the ball by the horns and really give it a good go tonight,
03:34and it just felt a little bit flat, and I'm sure that the fans have gave them a standing ovation there at the end, as they should do as well,
03:39it's been an unbelievable run, but they'll be a little bit disappointed they didn't have more of a go tonight, I think, that's the frustrating thing,
03:45but look, like you say, better days ahead, they go next week against Brighton, and they'll be looking to continue this excellent run at home,
03:51it's not to be tonight, but it is what it is, and they'll still be looking to eyeing up Palace at 12th and above them as well.
03:57Yeah, sort of the disappointing thing as well is that, because City aren't at their best, and you don't take advantage of it,
04:03it's frustrating, it was a frustrating watch room.
04:05If they take that chance there with Bellegarde, they go 1-0, 1-0 up, then this stadium completely changes.
04:11And it's a very different game as well, and it sounds crazy, but I would fancy Wolves to win the game at 1-0,
04:15if Bellegarde takes that opportunity, or even if Aiton already gets slightly luckier with his chance.
04:20You've got to take your chances against this opposition.
04:22Yeah, you have those two chances, you can't afford to miss them.
04:25As I say, Aiton doesn't do a lot wrong, but both of them together are two massive chances that you can't throw away.
04:30But, moving forward, yeah.
04:32Let's hope Sean Larson's OK.
04:33Yeah, first of all, yeah, we're going to speak to V2 after the game,
04:36we were told before kick-off it was a slight groin issue,
04:38so we're hoping that that means it's slight and it's not a major injury there.
04:42With three games to go, you need him back in and firing,
04:44because he's got a good chance to get a few extra goals,
04:47and look, it's not the easiest of runs, but it's also, it could be a lot worse.
04:52Two home games, one trip to Palace, you obviously are going to be,
04:56you know, just after the FA Cup final, they'll be distracted in one way or another after that game,
05:00and it's a good opportunity for Wolves.
05:02With two home games on that trip to London,
05:04to potentially catch Palace, but I think just finish the season well.
05:09Finish it strong, finish, if you can, 13th, even if you drop the 14th round there,
05:15I think it's a really, really good return.
05:16Year 12 would be fantastic as well, but a really good return,
05:19considering they were 17th for, you know, virtually the whole season,
05:22and that would be a good ending to, hopefully, the start of a fantastic era under Vito Correira.
05:29Manchester City won Wolves nil for the post-match reaction.
