00:00It's my privilege to introduce Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, Ted Lew.
00:04Hi. Thank you, Chairman Aguilar. An honor to be here with representatives
00:09Mannion and Delaney. Donald Trump's first 100 days have been one of the worst
00:15first 100 days of any U.S. president in history. That's because his policies are
00:20harming America. And the American people have noticed. Multiple polls show Trump's
00:26approval ratings plummeting. An associate press poll showed him at only 39%
00:31approval, 59% disapproval. And a recent Washington Post poll also shows him at
00:37only 39% approval, the lowest of any U.S. president in 80 years. One reason is
00:45because of tariffs. Its indiscriminate tariffs have increased prices. I urge
00:50all of you to look at the statement from the International Longshore and Warehouse
00:55Union. They put out a statement saying that the tariffs are crushing the working
01:01class with higher prices. And what's even worse is we don't even understand the
01:06rationale for these tariffs because the White House has put out two completely
01:10different rationales. One of them is we're imposing these indiscriminate tariffs to
01:16try to strike deals to go to a zero-tariff situation with other countries and have
01:21more free trade reduce trade barriers. And then you have Donald Trump saying over the
01:26weekend, I'm doing these tariffs to create an external revenue service to use it as a
01:31permanent revenue source to take the money that consumers are paying and inject
01:36that into the federal government. Those are completely opposite rationales and the
01:41White House can't even figure out why it's doing these tariffs. And then let me just conclude
01:45out about Secretary of Defense Pete Hexeth. I note that he has recently spent taxpayer funds for a
01:53makeup studio. I hope it's going well and make him look better on TV. But in terms of his policies,
01:59they are completely awful, especially his operational ability to handle sensitive information.
02:06You may have seen recent reporting showing that his phone number has now been all over the Internet.
02:11And if hackers have your phone number, there are a number of ways to surveil your phone.
02:16I ask reporters to look into whether he uses his personal phone overseas. There is a hack called the SS7
02:24attack. It stands for Stingley System Number 7. I was part of an investigation a few years ago.
02:29It doesn't matter how great your phone is. It's because of telecommunications providers you use.
02:34There's a flaw on there that they can surveil your phone and they can do that in the U.S.
02:38even worse overseas. So you all should check out whether Secretary Hexeth compromises phone if you use it overseas.
