00:21:25selamat menikmati
00:21:55you know when they're driving so cleanly it's hard to actually get a true indication of the speed they're going until the car gets out of shape and then you realise quite how fast and how much speed they're carrying through the corners and how much the room for mistakes is tiny so it's still exciting to watch inside even if they are driving as cleanly as possible to replicate a circuit racing style
00:22:25now Thierry Nouvelle is going to be the next driver to complete we were just watching Taka Sami Pairi he's in the stage as well we're seeing a really great battle with Taka and Sami right now there's 10.3 seconds between them with Pairi in fourth position overall and Taka in fifth
00:22:44eight tenths of a second up then on Tanax time this is 7.45.7 for Thierry
00:23:02with all the changes they're making service upon service and all the feedback they're giving back to base it is a busy old service area Hyundai this weekend
00:23:17yeah and it's a difficult one because you have a very small amount of time to make the decisions on what you're going to do next blue
00:23:23so it's important to try not to go down a rabbit hole in the wrong direction
00:23:28you just need to kind of keep it as minimal as possible but actually making a change
00:23:33I'm on the maximum of what I can do at the moment with what we have so I try to enjoy this one but
00:23:48yeah still not not the greatest feeling but it is what it is
00:23:52I'm not sure if I was driving I'd be really calm about how big those drifts were
00:24:04but this is it sometimes we see things and we think oh wow that's just oh that's super scary we
00:24:12mention it at the stage and they're like yeah whatever it's the ones that you don't see coming
00:24:16that are the more scary ones the ones that they catch that are not expecting that is the for me the true
00:24:21skill level you know the ones that you can see are going to come and how they set the car up
00:24:24that's what they're trying to do yeah it's when it snaps away from you at least expecting it
00:24:29at 100 mile an hour is the bit that's often quite impressive
00:24:33how does this ever happen to you behind the wheel rich milliner
00:24:36I did I did I did make a citron sack so about three foot shorter than it was supposed to be
00:24:41impressive
00:24:43yeah
00:24:43altered the wheelbase
00:24:46yes to it was no advantage
00:24:49oh my god
00:24:51Sammy Paya you mentioned earlier has had a fantastic rally we've seen a massive level
00:24:56of commitment from him here and again he's he's talked really maturely at the stage and about
00:25:01knowing where he can push where he can't where to hold back
00:25:05yeah I mean I think I'm taking nothing away from him he's done a great job he does have a you know
00:25:11that ability to bounce off his teammates set up and be able to see that the car works in the
00:25:17setups they have because of the times and positions they're in and that always adds a lot of confidence
00:25:21because you know the car's capable so you don't need to worry about that element you just concentrate
00:25:26on your driving and take something away our guys are kind of bouncing off each other and neither of
00:25:30and feel totally confident so you know that's where it's harder when in the past where we've had events with people
00:25:37like lobe or and or adrian there who who are further into their careers and able to concentrate
00:25:43they may not cost stress unfair but maybe have a little bit more experience on driving on these tricky conditions
00:25:48that can help kind of cement some of the feelings that they are getting and how they could maybe change the
00:25:54car set to suit them but when you're two youngsters learning your way together it's just a bit more of a challenge
00:25:59yeah that's a really good point actually because there's strength and depth there in Toyota right now
00:26:04and Sammy is benefiting a lot from that wealth around him
00:26:08we saw it i think adrian learned so much from said but those few events that we did below
00:26:12and and that's any tips to any youngster any advice that comes just take it yes and watch how they do it
00:26:20what they've learned from not even talking to watch how they prepare
00:26:23when i look at this split between you and Sammy it's so close but how much are you enjoying driving out
00:26:29there this afternoon yeah it's enjoyable for sure yeah like i said even i was struggling yesterday
00:26:35stage was very nice so doesn't matter you're struggling or not just a beautiful stage always
00:26:40uh like enjoyable to drive and uh yeah today also has been pretty okay maybe still put the push but
00:26:49i don't want to you know do anything extra so i'm quite happy with that moment where we are now so
00:26:56uh yeah just try to focus uh small steps forward but nothing extra too much
00:27:05there's a bit of rain there yeah this is what we saw earlier um it's a little bit of moisture but
00:27:14no drivers mention it at all at the stage end doesn't seem to have any real effect
00:27:19yeah i think that often there's a lot of temperature in the tires and there's not a huge amount of
00:27:29change to the road condition so you see the wipers you maybe start to panic but i think they know that
00:27:35realistically it's not going to change a huge amount at this point uh you know a full-on downpour
00:27:41right now might be a different story but i'm not sure we're expecting that but uh the last time
00:27:45i was here like you mentioned it was crazy it was crazy rain that year in 2020. i think this is
00:27:51what rallying on an island has the potential to do we've seen that before in places like
00:27:55corsica as well and things and uh really hope you haven't commentators cursed that one and all of a
00:28:00sudden we do get it down for a brain i think we're going to be okay this weekend but uh you've got a
00:28:05pretty astute to where the full caster is part of the team he's quite the character he is but yeah
00:28:12it's uh it's looking a little bit more sensible this weekend has he been standing on top of the
00:28:16containers with his finger in the air this event uh no he's on well at the minute he's in the hotel so get
00:28:21well soon get well soon absolutely right we're into uh elvin evans and sebastian ogier we've just
00:28:29seen elvin we're on board with sebastian ogier right now he's in second position nobody really able to
00:28:35make any inroads into the time of kalirov and para in front sammy pyrie is going to be next to
00:28:42complete now he's been slower than tacker on all four splits apart from the final one now he is faster
00:28:49by eight tenths of a second remember he has the advantage already over tacker in the overall
00:28:55classifications and he extends that by six tenths of a second 10.9 seconds the advantage is now for
00:29:01sammy pyrie we've got seven drivers through it's sammy leading the stage at the moment that's another
00:29:07good stage time on the boards my next just messaged me to tell me i'm wrong the helicopter is in the clouds
00:29:14therefore droplets condensate on the lens there we go there we go that's put you in your place
00:29:21but i still think it's raining a little bit because it's raining on elvin
00:29:24which is screening he's not in a helicopter take that henry
00:29:31let's cross out to jules and uh hear from sammy
00:29:37i'm not sure what it is about you in this stage but again so quick on the split it's only one person
00:29:48ahead of you by point four at the moment what works so well in here uh what works i don't know
00:29:55uh somehow the car is really really nice to drive the states are really really cool so i'm just trying
00:30:04to enjoy it and yeah somehow we are able to find some flow so um yeah i don't really really feel that
00:30:13i was again pushing but it's quite quite clean quite tidy so yeah it's going quite there smoothly i guess
00:30:20smooth is best probably the fastest way by the looks of things we know that um but yeah like i
00:30:28said they're doing a great job let's talk about seb ogier then it's man you know well of course he's
00:30:35a big part of the team it only feels like a few years ago he's a little bit longer than that now
00:30:41yeah i mean still a huge amount of respect for seb still a great guy
00:30:45uh and still one of the fastest out there uh and i think as he as he mentioned at the start of the
00:30:51weekend you know he's maybe not as sharp as he would be if he was doing all the events but i don't
00:30:55think he's uh he's not exactly blunt disease um he's absolutely what we would expect to see and you
00:31:03know i'm sure there's a bit of frustration he loves to win he comes to win that's where he comes to the
00:31:06rallies and uh it's hard competition against this bearing it really is this weekend they have been on
00:31:12supreme form kane roben pera and jone haltonen have a good lead it is 38.1 seconds after 10 stages
00:31:22and they've won every single stage of the event so far it's interesting isn't it you think on a
00:31:28rally like this where it's similar conditions we'd have like a really really close battle yeah yeah
00:31:33we've probably got the biggest gaps we've seen this year that's true yeah on some events like kenya and
00:31:38sweden and the loose gravel events it's the closest we ever get so it's it's been an odd one
00:31:43at times it is it's it is quite hard to believe but it just goes to show what commitment rovin pera
00:31:49is putting in but yet not taking those massive risks it's just as he said earlier he's in the flow
00:31:55yeah and uh you know another solid time from elvin it seems to be the trend of elvin goes fastest then
00:32:02ogio goes fastest and then cali goes fast it does elvin's had a terrific start to the season
00:32:07though rich hasn't he i mean that's a real confidence builder just in itself absolutely
00:32:10i'm really happy for him you know it'd be great to see him do well this year and thoroughly deserves it
00:32:18he's being clever here already you know reaching the top two steps is going to be difficult so
00:32:23take the points and keep that championship league growing
00:32:30i've been watching the pictures from the helicopter on the onboard and the wipers are still on there is this
00:32:34some rain or something out there or mist just a little bit of drizzle on the screen yeah
00:32:40then it starts to make you worry of what's to come ah yeah you always when that happens but uh
00:32:45hopefully it should be all right the stage okay though
00:32:50he could be a man a few words just to the point concise yeah exactly
00:32:58it just makes me think a little bit about tomorrow rich you know super sunday tomorrow it's extra points
00:33:02available obviously for uh the stage wins for the uh the top five drivers through and right now you
00:33:09can't see that going any other way than toyota's way no i have to be honest i think it's going to be
00:33:14hard for anybody else to to make an indent into into that so they have a massive chance to capitalize on
00:33:20that and come away from here with incredibly strong amount of points um but like i said we're only in
00:33:24round four and we've got 14 rallies this year not 13 so we've had our time off uh it gets super super
00:33:31busy from here on in um i know the toyota team have got a huge job ahead of them you know running four
00:33:37five cars every event and the event's now coming thick and fast every two and a half three weeks
00:33:42uh you know there's a lot of work to do there and and um there will be challenges away from the
00:33:49driving you know the team has to work really hard to reprep the cars the shipping times to get them
00:33:53out that means you have days not weeks to reprep these cars and you know they're putting everything
00:34:00towards the championship uh both drivers and manufacturers but it's not going to be uh
00:34:06it's not going to be easy so to come away here with potentially what looks like a huge amount of
00:34:10points is going to be a great result taking a look at the splits of color and it comes as no surprise
00:34:22to see him at the top of the splits board right now not quite much but still he is there as we said it
00:34:30has been a pretty supreme event he's going to be next to complete yeah you know it is busy as you
00:34:42say it's going to be busy with gravel events pk called me out earlier saying you know it's october
00:34:47till we see tarmac again yeah and it's uh you know that's something you can't forget and it's in some
00:34:53ways good uh you know the gravel events is what rally is what a lot of people think about when you think
00:34:58about rallies is off-road gravel events but it's going to be a a run of these of gravel events and
00:35:04then suddenly if the championship's close we're back onto tarmac yes for two events uh and then again
00:35:11to a complete unknown new event in saudi at the end of the year so could be a thrilling end then
00:35:19let's hear from sebastian ogier who's come through with a 7 43.3 it's the fastest time on the board
00:35:26by a tenth overall win so the stage is uh 13.75 kms long that's four toyotas through one and a half
00:35:36seconds between the four of you that's pretty precise okay and who is the fastest so far you by your
00:35:43tenth of a second but your teammates coming i'm really sorry yeah you don't even need to say that we
00:35:49kind of get used to it now enjoy that stage yeah i have a different one yeah i think they are getting
00:35:56used to it now are they it seems that way it's exactly what i said would happen at the moment again
00:36:00so uh yeah you know we shouldn't take it away from from what's going on here you know it's still
00:36:13it's still very exciting to watch and it's still uh i think the in car is still incredible and it really
00:36:19gives a sense of what's going on we're being treated to some incredible tarmac driving here the stages in
00:36:24in grand canera are beautiful and we're seeing some superb performances it's a real treat and i
00:36:29think right now in terms of the championship in terms of the competition okay cali's pulled out a
00:36:33big lead here that's kind of unusual these days but the competition in wrc right now is so exciting and
00:36:40so close between the drivers and that's typical to see with just the gaps between them coming through
00:36:44this stage yeah i mean i love watching the in car stuff in this view this kind of view especially because
00:36:49i love to see how they manage to carry the speed through these corners you know how what is the
00:36:55driving style to get through this you know cali there just has a little tiny little nip on a
00:37:01handbrake to rotate the back and then keep the power coming in whilst being gradual and patient and that
00:37:07the speed they can take around the corner slow corner is really interesting to watch because
00:37:10often we see big differences between uh between drivers and it may only look like something very
00:37:15small on the screen but you add it up over the course of a 27k stage and maybe half the time
00:37:19we're losing is down to driving as opposed to setup and there's you know there's always two sides to
00:37:24it the drivers aren't happy with the car setup which is something the team has to sort but then
00:37:28there's always something that can be done with the driving as well and the tools we have now in terms
00:37:32of the coverage and the and the all life and the rally tv have been able to watch back after the event
00:37:36and understand where they're winning like this corner especially we saw it better we said there we didn't
00:37:42have the break up but again slow a small tiny bit of rotation with the power coming in to keep the speed
00:37:47through and a couple of times i've been lucky enough to sit in the cars with the guys that's
00:37:51the one thing that always amazes me is how much speed they carry through medium uh a medium and slow
00:37:57speed corners the high speed stuff is a little bit more straightforward i guess because it's just
00:38:00commitment and you know the car's going to make it but carrying that speed through the slower stuff
00:38:05is where is where the skill is and and i think there's so much you can learn young drivers coming
00:38:11through as well thank you on the time for college seven four two one three seven four one three
00:38:17color
00:38:20or kind in that is that is the fastest time on the board it's another 11 stage wins all four toyota's
00:38:28before you are split by one and a half seconds you're two seconds quicker than everybody else so
00:38:32another stage win yeah that's uh that's good news what i want to know because i'm sick of talking to you
00:38:40about stage wins and everything but does your contract have a stage winning bonus in it
00:38:45unfortunately not you could do to do with that next time yeah it wouldn't be bad in this kind of
00:38:51problem but yeah yeah it's not so often we we can be in this position that they come so easily but
00:38:57yeah now i'm enjoying a lot it's it's quite nice well that's a suggestion isn't it and i wouldn't have
00:39:05to worry about if julian was driving with it oh jules if you're listening it's okay have a sit down
00:39:13digest that comment there from rich milliner neither if i was either to be honest i was a stinger
00:39:20it's a brilliant performance it is you can't take anything away from him it is mega but
00:39:24i do like what you were saying about the fact that you know how many drivers are utilizing the onboards
00:39:29looking back at other drivers not just their own they're looking back at other people's styles
00:39:33especially if you're going to see this is another great another great shot to get that
00:39:37understanding of the tarmac driving of you know where do we put the braking where do we bring the
00:39:42power in you know having the ability to see this for the best in the world is something you can just
00:39:47utilize and bring through to your own driving in your own rallying fields just coming up through and
00:39:51you wouldn't have this when i first died following rally right to the early 2000s it was
00:39:57you know you waited till the end of the day to watch 30 minute highlight program which is all you could
00:40:01get and now we've got everything we want but to be the best you have to utilize these tools it's just
00:40:06part of the sport now it's so developed and then the gaps are so small because you have to use every
00:40:11tool you have to um to understand where to go quicker and how to go quicker joan rosal has been on
00:40:18very impressive form this weekend he's got a lead of 17 and a half seconds after 10 stages this kid's been
00:40:25very impressive he is impressive isn't he alejandro catch on he won the spanish super championship last
00:40:32year i think i looked when i looked at the entry list i knew it would be uh it would be good but you know
00:40:39often we see that uh local drivers are really really fast near the road over the course and the length of
00:40:45a wrc event it can sometimes be hard for them to keep that pace over the three the full three days but
00:40:50certainly no with no issues here with that no alejandro has been uh really good and i have to
00:40:57say last year when we were here for the erc he finished on the podium last year uh but giving him
00:41:03a couple more stages he would have really been fighting for the win he'd had an issue and he bounced
00:41:07back from it and he was really putting pressure uh on bernardo it's a difficult one for them as well
00:41:13because you have to balance wanting to showcase that you can be fast on your home event and and uh
00:41:20and get your name in front of the cameras but ultimately you don't want to make a mistake either
00:41:25because then people very quickly forget you need that result at the end of it um and like i say
00:41:29diversity events are long old things and hard uh they're hard going on uh concentration and stepping up
00:41:36from erc now it's usually another 100 125 kilometers of driving so uh he's approaching it very well
00:41:43i'm doing very well but it's fantastic to see you know and i think we see this a lot more probably
00:41:49in the erc championship where you do see the national champions coming in obviously and
00:41:53and joining the rags and sometimes having the ultimate success and the top step of the podium
00:41:58but to see the young drivers come through now in so many different countries uh you know you've got
00:42:03robert jorgensen who run the junior category last year in estonia estonian driver rather winning the junior
00:42:10category and he's the talent of the big talent of the future yeah and it's easy to get carried away
00:42:15with the with their experience levels again you know you see them come through they put in these
00:42:19these monster performances but then you realize they haven't done so many rallies and you know for
00:42:23robert yesterday it was another hard lesson you know of how hard it is at this level you know
00:42:28unfortunately a small small mistake on the first stage 10ks in or whatever into a barrier and that was
00:42:33the day done and you lose all of that mileage and then today you know malcolm's told him i only want
00:42:38to see a fast recce for for today and tomorrow get the rest of the mileage get the notes make the
00:42:42changes understand more grow over the weekend don't make any mistakes now but it's it's never easy when
00:42:49you've made one because you need confidence on these kind of stages and uh his was certainly not
00:42:54yesterday so the footage and the tv and everything we have is is amazing but it also adds pressure
00:43:01without through no fault of their own because we're watching everything that's being done and there's
00:43:05nothing that you can find anymore sadly so you know it's very easy to justify or or confirm or deny
00:43:12exactly what may be said no there's definitely no hiding at the moment nikolai grison is desperately trying
00:43:20to to make some inroads into the drivers in front but it's leo rossel who's the closest to him and
00:43:25that's from behind so leo rossel is only 7.3 seconds behind grison it's 24.2 up to catch on and a
00:43:34further 41 up to the lead he was impressive in sierra morena a few weeks ago yeah um really fast there
00:43:41and uh you know uh a great result there for him john john was uh getting close on a few stages and
00:43:51unfortunately a small mistake put put into that but uh you know nikolai is the biggest thing for
00:43:57nikolai nikolai i think is uh probably the tired the tire change between manufacturers between
00:44:01championships um you know you're trying to learn each tire individually and that's not easy they both have
00:44:08differences and uh you know here with like we spoke about earlier so specialist that
00:44:13it's although you you know tarmac very well it's it's hard to do it they enjoyed it though i think
00:44:18oh yeah constantin with a little bit of a smile and a chuckle and a shake of the head there i
00:44:22wonder if there was a probably a couple of drifts in there somewhere yeah knowing nikolai yes he's
00:44:27certainly an impressive driver anyway uh some of the shots that i've seen from the outside of
00:44:31sierra morena are uh pretty uh hollywood film worthy dynamics certainly it's 1.9 seconds off the pace
00:44:40though of johann rossel who's set the fastest time through so far eight minutes 0.5 of a second for
00:44:46rossel big shame for emil earlier actually as well he was doing incredibly well considering being out
00:44:51in the car so yeah he was yeah he was a puncture real left puncture for uh emil lindholm and again he
00:44:57kind of he was a bit perplexed as to actually where it came from he didn't feel like he'd hit
00:45:01anything in the stage no very lucky unlucky really i think he's the only one to have had a puncture i
00:45:05think yeah i've seen so far yeah exactly we we were quite oh my god that's the first we've seen this
00:45:10weekend we talked about this earlier the fact that we saw the two rossel brothers both on the podium
00:45:17a rally monte carlo that was a real special event leo obviously very still early on in his career but he's
00:45:23been on impressive form and showing confidence of a of a driver far more experienced yeah great to
00:45:29see and great to have the modern day uh better in heading i guess yeah that's what uh lewis brought
00:45:37up earlier wasn't it you know i wonder how much rallying is talked about in the rossel household it's
00:45:42got to be hard someone's got to mention something at some point at dinner haven't they yeah yeah yeah
00:45:47but for leo rossel as i said he is trying to make inroads into the podium he was in podium
00:45:53position but yesterday his throttle got stuck open scary scary moment which he described at the stage
00:46:01end he dropped down the leaderboard and now he's clawing his way back up but he is a little bit slower
00:46:07than grizin so it's it's a tough ask even though it's just a handful of seconds between him and nikolai
00:46:13he's not quite able to uh to get a gain on it at the moment
00:46:21so elmin lindholm has just completed the stage we've got no on board in the car but he is through
00:46:27eight minutes zero one point nine is the time for emil so that's third fastest through in wrc2 at the
00:46:34moment you talk rich about you know the fact that you can see everything right now everyone can see
00:46:38everything you know when you're looking for you know up and coming talent you're looking at other
00:46:43drivers how much is is this kind of coverage helping with that yeah obviously it helps a lot
00:46:50because you can watch exactly what's going on but you know you can never really judge uh a youngster
00:46:56on one event so as much as we talked about cash on doing incredible event here um you know this
00:47:02needs to be his springboard to find ways to do more events outside of just this one and show that he's
00:47:07capable across all surfaces which i'm sure he is but then when you start to see the name more and more
00:47:12people start to look more and more and then you begin to to to have uh more of a look every now and
00:47:19again on what's going on you know it's difficult when you're when you're concentrating on your cars and
00:47:22your team it's hard to look at the entire field and see what's going on so to have the ability to
00:47:28go back again afterwards and have a look and see what's happening is is great um but it's uh it's
00:47:35hard to make it to the top in here and then that's why i said about uh you know for the youngsters it's
00:47:40just as important to show speed but also finish each rally as well because that's where you start to
00:47:45read about them more as well because you have an unfortunate issue over a weekend and really the field
00:47:50in wrc2 is often so big and so competitive if you have a situation like romit you know he's out of
00:47:56he's out of the points now you're sadly not going to get much much coverage that's the brutal reality
00:48:02at the end of the day isn't it and it's balancing that uh ability to ensure you're still getting the
00:48:06coverage but at the same time you're proving a point as well um so it's not just about driving
00:48:13there's a lot else a lot of other stuff in the background to make it uh successful and keep going
00:48:17forward leo rossell completes then just waiting for his uh time to be confirmed
00:48:32and this is the last car we're going to be seeing here
00:48:36so let's take a look at some of the classifications then for this stage with uh i did say i just could
00:48:42just recall my voice saying cali rovin pair is fastest through maybe we'll do that a bit later
00:48:467 41.3 was the time look at the differences though you know it's two second drop to og but then look
00:48:53how close the rest of the uh the toyotas are behind and newville not too far away from takakatsuta either
00:49:00you know those gaps really down to oitanak are very small between the drivers cali rovin's rovin
00:49:06perez lead is now 40.1 of a second over sebastian og elvin evans is 23.8 seconds behind seb between
00:49:14sammy pyrie and takakatsuta it's still pretty tasty it's only 10.9 seconds but uh sammy pyrie is
00:49:20keeping katsuta honest out there it's been a brilliant performance from the young finished driver so far
00:49:27rich milner thank you very much for joining me it's been a pleasure you're welcome i had the pleasure's all
00:49:32mine uh we are going to be heading out into the service park now to catch up with our crews there
00:49:45well a few drops of rain falling in the service bug i'm not sure it's going to last the evening out
00:49:49but just might add a little bit of spice to that super special that's on the way it's myself
00:49:53and chenny for the next half an hour i think also we'll have fx here at hyundai in a moment to talk all
00:50:00things technical but for now oh i wonder whether greg will be regretting that moment with rich in
00:50:06comms as well i know i don't think so it was nice to hear rich miller in comms did a good job didn't
00:50:11he and um frustrating for for gregoire munster ultimately i mean he went into that right hander
00:50:15properly hot i think we can have another look at it now but you know he just outbraked himself for me
00:50:20actually it looked almost like a wrong pace note here we go look how late he is on the brakes there was
00:50:25not a chance he was getting that car turned in uh and um i mean rich even said it in commentary
00:50:31uh and that it was just like a late pace note carrying way too much speed into there now he
00:50:37just gregoire kind of shrugged it off as uh i was just breaking too late and couldn't get the car
00:50:42stopped but um what i would say is he's extremely lucky to have not collected those trees on the way
00:50:47in so here we go from the onboard look how late he's breaking now not a chance he knew full well he wasn't
00:50:54getting any look at that he very nearly took that tree with him didn't he if you're going to do
00:50:58that that was the perfect way to do that yeah i mean look he's there's no damage to the car
00:51:03fortunately that's the most important thing isn't it but um but that's the first time this weekend
00:51:07we've seen somebody that's the first time we've seen somebody make a mistake and um this throughout
00:51:13this entire weekend and unfortunately like i said most important thing is no damage to that car
00:51:18whatsoever so they can just shrug it off put it behind them get on with it yeah exactly like you said
00:51:22the first incident we've seen all weekend and coming out of that unscathed i guess the only
00:51:27person sort of that was involved and that was uh adrian formo a little bit just catching going past
00:51:31that just just sort of maybe perhaps influencing a little bit of his stage time but it didn't really
00:51:35make any difference anyway yeah no adrian adrian said yeah it cost him a little bit of time but i
00:51:39don't think it cost him anything significant at all certainly not worth going to the uh the stewards
00:51:44and trying to get some time back you can see there the front wheels spinning up the car was beached on the
00:51:49on the sump guard underneath fortunately there were some spectators there were there not spectators
00:51:54uh that ford puma would still be where it is there's no way that they were going to get that out of
00:51:59there and again just goes to show isn't it so often um you know that the spectators become the heroes of
00:52:05the sport don't they and um again it's one of the the the unique things about rallying one of the
00:52:10brilliant things about rallying is that you've just got members of the public coming down and and
00:52:15shoving the guts of a million quids worth of uh of car back up onto the stage yeah there is nothing
00:52:20quite like rallying and we've been talking about the fans a lot i know that rich in comms as well
00:52:24mentioning the fans there it really has been an absolutely spectacular show of fans and then again
00:52:30this is the true heart of rallying yep absolutely and uh and they got the job done they got the car
00:52:35out gregoire's got to be a little bit careful it's very easy in these situations to burn out the clutch
00:52:39and uh and then and then you are in trouble and we've seen plenty of people in the past doing that
00:52:43they're desperate to try and get the car out and they're riding the clutch and then uh
00:52:47and then it just gets very hot and they burn the thing out and then it really isn't going anywhere
00:52:51so um look one of those things i think it was a mistake to make he said he was trying to brake late
00:52:57personally i think there's a little bit more to it than that because he was so late on the brakes but
00:53:03um yeah he's out he'll get to the end of the stage he'll press on for the rest of the day yeah that
00:53:07is that pretty much summed up there i guess nothing ventured nothing gained there he may as well
00:53:12have pushed through that which is kind of what he was saying wasn't it he's there's no point actually
00:53:15just sitting and doing nothing in the position that he was in no exactly and uh you know there
00:53:19was plenty of other action in this stage as well but um yeah the main thing is that that they got
00:53:23the car out i think this is where they it wasn't long after this they uh they were able to get it free
00:53:28and you know we're just repeating ourselves now they got it out and down the stage you went that's it
00:53:33indeed but good to see the fans are all working hard out there right that's greg munster's situation
00:53:37happening through that stage as you just said back on the road and running through our next
00:53:42stage okay well another win for cali robert through that stage i wonder if we can do the
00:53:48lot do you know i i think i think on actual stages he can but um there are two stages that are that
00:53:56are kind of showcase stages one is this evening uh it's only 1.8 kilometers and it comes into the
00:54:01basketball basketball court now Sebastian Ogier said uh he says that's the stage i'll get him on
00:54:06and there's also a kart track a stage tomorrow which is only 1.5 kilometers which is kart track
00:54:10those could potentially be the undoing for kalirov and pera i think out in the mountains
00:54:16he's untouchable i think he'll remain untouchable but uh on those little mickey mouse tricky stages
00:54:21there's an opportunity there and i would say that not necessarily it'll be a toyota that wins that
00:54:25either okay interesting all right well that that might be nice a bit of solace for the hyundai guys you
00:54:30just saw adrian form open going past greg okay now we have got a little bit more about these hankook
00:54:37tires so stephen cho is the man that we've been speaking to all weekend he's here now just giving
00:54:43you an insight into exactly what tires hankook have produced for this weekend
00:54:47starting here with our prime tire this is the hankook ventus z215 uh in the hard compound and then
00:54:57moving down the line here this is our option tire so it's the same z215 uh uh ventus as the prime
00:55:04except that it is now in a softer compound so if the weather is a little bit cooler or some of the
00:55:09stages where we see expecting very smooth surface conditions this is the the tire that would be optimal
00:55:14for that and not sure how the forecast is looking but there's a possibility of some of some wet
00:55:19conditions uh and so in that case we brought our z210 uh ventus wet tire here as well even the hard
00:55:26tire if you uh if you if you touch it you can see it's very very soft it just feels like it's ready to
00:55:31to give lots of grip the soft even more so the soft even more so you can feels really like a like a
00:55:36sticky eraser and the wet tire um i wouldn't say it's necessarily softer than our tarmac soft but it's
00:55:43designed completely different to work in uh in in wet conditions uh so all of the ingredients and the
00:55:48pattern uh to have better water evacuation as well they have a total allocation of 58 tires from the
00:55:5558 tires uh as i mentioned before the the tarmac hard is the prime they'll have a choice to use up to
00:56:0128 they'll also have up to 18 uh option tires which is the the tarmac soft and then again in the case of
00:56:08bad weather they'll have up to 12 tires uh in the wet specification but throughout the entire rally
00:56:14they are limited to a total of 28 so from there they can choose and that's where the interesting
00:56:19strategy is going to come into play
00:56:25well it's good to know exactly what's available but they're actually not going to be using exactly
00:56:29what's available really it's the hard tire we saw all three softs i think make an appearance and
00:56:33i think that might be the only time we see them all weekend yeah exactly i mean you're absolutely
00:56:36right there's only been three softs and they were used yesterday today's unquestionably all about
00:56:40the the hard compound tire and and the hard i have to say is working very well there's there's nothing
00:56:46wrong with the hyundai there's nothing wrong with the tire but you have to marry the two together in
00:56:52order to get the performance out of them and it's kind of the same at the m sport and and you know
00:56:56again there's nothing wrong with the tire because toyota is using the same rubber as everybody else so
00:57:01really interesting to get an insight there from steven about about the difference between the soft
00:57:05compound tire the hard compound tire and the wet i don't think we're going to see the wet i wish we
00:57:09had done now and i i know i'm contradicting myself because i said i wanted to i want to see a a dry
00:57:14rally but um well there was a few drops of rain a bit more action wouldn't we yeah indeed all right
00:57:19well while we are talking at greg munster we may as well find out a little bit more about the man so check
00:57:25this out
00:57:39when we are here in the city close to the hotel we are really focused but sometimes when you go on ricky
00:57:47and uh you see incredible scenery while uh being on top of the mountain that's where you realize the
00:57:55most uh you stop sometimes on road section to make a picture or something and you're like
00:58:00what are we lucky to be traveling around the world like this you need to have some pleasure in
00:58:04life as well so if you've done well for example uh keeping strict to your diet for four or five days then
00:58:11you can have one guilty pleasure sometimes you also need to relax a bit just to get out of of that
00:58:19focus and stress zone so so it's good but also to share this moment with uh with your entourage
00:58:25because uh sometimes you're traveling all around the globe not especially with your closest friends
00:58:31or family and so having a good relationship with your co-driver or team members and so on it makes it
00:58:39really special to enjoy the journey i mean we are only like eight to ten people to to do that uh
00:58:48traveling around the globe with a rally one car and trying to be the fastest
00:58:56how would you describe your season so far i think better than last year in a way that we showed the
00:59:03promising pace uh we did some fastest stage time we we had really good pace but uh
00:59:09the result wasn't always there uh in monty and in sweden but for example in kenya we didn't we didn't
00:59:16give up while it was quite tricky so uh we brought home a fifth place which is finally a good start to
00:59:22the season so now we can tackle all the other events i like to drive on tarmac surely on on one like this
00:59:31it's all about pace note making sure that you have the the commitment required and then it's also the perfect
00:59:38opportunity to push the car to its to its limits because you drive super stiff you want the front
00:59:43end that's super reactive and uh just drive till the grip cannot handle it anymore
00:59:55well i have to say we've all done exactly the same and got a bit of ice cream here at least we've not
00:59:59had so much sunshine but a bit of ice cream all the same all right well from the beach to a bit more
01:00:03serious business fx to maison joining us now here at hyundai now we do have a lot to chat about you
01:00:08are sort of being thrust into the limelight now because we want to know what's going on and i
01:00:13appreciate that you're still fishing for exactly what's going on but in terms of the the basic level
01:00:18to explain where are we at in terms of what's happening with these cars well where we are i mean we
01:00:25we came here thinking that we had a good car for for this rally but uh shows that we don't have the
01:00:31perfect car i mean all the other teams have a much better car than than us so they prepare it better
01:00:37they they know the the tires better so yeah yeah it's it's a bit difficult now we have to catch up so
01:00:42and you know that in a rally when you start to to look for a different setup and you play in one
01:00:48direction the other one you you lose you lose more time than uh than you will you know you will gain but
01:00:55i think we have to do it now it's a right place to to do it we you know we have the others to to
01:01:00to judge our speed so um we decided to sacrifice a bit uh the performance yesterday and today just
01:01:06to try to find a solution quicker quicker basically if we if we if we start with thierry um
01:01:15we know that he really struggled from the off and you've got experience in circuit racing and
01:01:19you know this on tarmac like this yeah everything has to be spot on doesn't it it all has to work it
01:01:23all has to gel together otherwise you get punished and thierry himself has been talking about this we
01:01:27know you've changed springs and dampers tried different dampers uh at least of what you can
01:01:32use um and thierry himself has mentioned has mentioned this we know adrian's running a slightly
01:01:36different diff is it is it a simple case of what what adrian's running is working better and if you
01:01:42could if you could go that way you can't if you could go that way we'd see thierry come back yeah i
01:01:47mean it will be uh it will be faster for sure uh i mean it still be not be the the what we have
01:01:52homologated is uh will not be the perfect uh this for these conditions but it will be better yeah
01:01:57definitely but i mean they are sealed today we see the twice the same day for for for thierry so
01:02:04we're stuck somehow now we did hear all you talking about sort of the very different things that you've
01:02:10thrown at the call can you give us any idea what you have done i appreciate now you've been mentioning
01:02:15this jenny that it it is more now testing because you've got to find something um what what has gone on
01:02:21with always car that's different to thierry's ah we tried many things you know starting springs uh
01:02:27anti-roll bars dampers don't put clicks for sure kinematic uh we try to to play also with some
01:02:34geometry with more combo more scrub less scrub uh more i mean caster trail we tried we tried really
01:02:42many many many things the last nearly 48 hours but yeah nothing really uh unlocked the the
01:02:51performance from a suspension point they're all quite significant changes i mean you would normally
01:02:56expect those to make big differences have they have the differences come though i mean yes we know the
01:03:00performance isn't there with toyota we'll accept that but have you seen the jumps the changes you'd
01:03:04expect when you make such big changes like that no not yet i mean you know you could see sometime the
01:03:10the drivers the three drivers doing very similar similar time with a complete completely different
01:03:15setup so it's uh yeah it's it's somewhere else than uh springs bars and uh and uh kinematic or
01:03:22geometry but it's it's bizarre right when you're making that many changes and they're big big changes
01:03:27to the car to not see significant changes occurring out on the stages and is that coming down to the way
01:03:33that the hancock hard tire is working yeah i mean it's uh that's a limiting factor so you really need to
01:03:39to have earlier the perfect car to to be you know always on uh on the maximum on the peak performance
01:03:45of the of this tire and not you know the other side of the of the curve so that's where i mean with our
01:03:51not perfect setup we are struggling to stay early on the peak of performance and uh we too easily you
01:03:57know fall down on the other side of the peak how did you get to this point because this car has been
01:04:05good on tarmac so i know you're this is a question that you'll all be wanting to answer but why are
01:04:11you here what what has led you to be so different as we come into this rally i mean this rally has uh
01:04:18i mean it's the profile is a bit i mean different from uh from the tarmac rally we've been i mean it's
01:04:24you know it's really uh you say a bit of secret tracing you have always the four wheels on the
01:04:29on the ground you can't cut you can't uh you can't compensate by pushing a bit more you know
01:04:35limited by the the tires so it's uh say you you really need a perfect circuit car to
01:04:41to be fast on this road and we don't have it yet there's always an opportunity to learn what have
01:04:48you learned going forward look this isn't going to be the weekend for you know it's not working out
01:04:51but there's a massive opportunity to learn and when we go to central european rally it's not quite
01:04:55as smooth as this but but what have the learnings been from the team fx well that's uh you know it's
01:05:02uh you always have to uh you know think again and and we i think we were a bit too confident after
01:05:08the the rally we did in south of spain two weeks ago with with theory um but yeah it was we misjudged
01:05:16our performance and uh so yeah it's every day is uh it's a school day we learn again and uh but just
01:05:22mind me remind me i i i've been through this in a few a few times in past my life i'm back in nearly the
01:05:29previous millennium but uh yeah it's uh 99 2000 2001 and then and a bit later 2005 and six i've been
01:05:36through this so it's uh yeah normally you say you can't do twice the same mistake but um yeah it's a
01:05:43bit of a stupidity but yeah in that case we're a bit stupid i i think i think that's strong because
01:05:49i think that's unfair because the the hank it's the first time we've seen the hancock hard tire being
01:05:54using this and if it's not it i've been saying it in commentary the it's there's nothing wrong with
01:05:59the hancock tire there's nothing wrong with the car but if they don't gel together it will not work
01:06:03that's what you're facing yeah we i mean the tires are is the only contact we have with the ground
01:06:09that's uh so we have to look after them and uh and and be gentle with them and and today with our
01:06:16with our car which has always been with you know quite aggressive uh driving style or quite i mean
01:06:26uh let's say setup for quite aggressive driving style we are we can't really perform well in these
01:06:33conditions with these tires today what i will ask that after the first three stages yesterday morning
01:06:39on friday i looked at the sides that came off thierry's car you could have almost bolted them back
01:06:43on they just hadn't they just hadn't switched on at all it was like they hadn't been activated they
01:06:46were like brand new almost did softening the car at least give you a little bit more on the front did
01:06:52you did you get the feedback from the tire that you were expecting by doing that oh we tried but uh no
01:06:57it did not really um went that direction so it was uh yeah quite surprising but uh no we tried to switch
01:07:05on the tires we try uh but we haven't burned any yet but oh they're there yeah i don't think really the
01:07:12problem is is coming from the tires i mean they are the same for everybody it's just that yeah we
01:07:16haven't find the the right uh let's say or the uh optimized empty optimum uh combination to make
01:07:24them work and and stay and uh on the peak well you're not going to be the first team or the last
01:07:30team to go through that and one of the difficult things of course is that you find out all of this
01:07:34and then it's a completely different setup again as we move through the mid part of the season
01:07:38just interestingly enough toyota temperatures coming back at the end of the stage is a lot lot
01:07:42hotter obviously based on what you've just been saying as well but a lot more than perhaps you've
01:07:47seen in a long while it must be fascinating to see the differences the disparity between what's going
01:07:52on at toyota and what's going on here and i'm sure throughout the season it might swing in your
01:07:56favor at a completely different rally based on those things yeah we we also had some high temperature
01:08:02so i don't think it's only the toyota and but uh i think there are other factors with the tires which
01:08:07uh which make them uh yeah you know make us dropping on the other side of the of the peak as i say i mean
01:08:14the grip and uh is uh it's not only the temperature but also the pressure the some of the factors so yeah
01:08:22it's uh tires are very complicated uh let's say uh
01:08:28uh
01:08:33person let's say yeah like a person you have to take care and and be nice with them and
01:08:38and like and like they don't talk a lot you know that's that's the problem they don't tell you it's
01:08:43a bit like animals they don't you they don't tell you if something is wrong so you you know you have to
01:08:48be a vet and understand what is wrong with the tire without any communication with them exactly and
01:08:53ultimately is your it is your contact patch to the surface of the road you've got to get it working
01:08:58what i want to do want to speak to you about if i can because i know we're running out time effects
01:09:01very quickly there have been some significant changes to the car particularly on gravel we're
01:09:04expecting the hyundai to work better on gravel we've got a flurry of gravel rallies coming up so
01:09:11some positives to come from from the car and we know you know you've got the right right drivers
01:09:15and engineers around you as well yeah no we uh for sure it's uh we have we have many rallies coming
01:09:21and and we should focus the development on uh for the fast fast gravel rally so we're looking forward
01:09:27for this rally but i mean to be honest if we if we solve the issue we have here we can also improve
01:09:33the car on gravel so we will uh we will really try to push quickly and unlock this last performance we
01:09:41have here and that we can transfer into good times last year we saw on in finland it was just it was
01:09:47in the high speed stuff the back of the car was just trying to overtake itself and it was quite hard
01:09:51to dial that out do you think that the work you've done uh with the geometry the car suspension the
01:09:57cover thing else has hopefully done that yeah i mean the feedback we get from the driver is uh going
01:10:02in that direction they sometimes say that maybe the rear is too uh is too stuck but um yeah it's a good
01:10:07problem to have absolutely this one on gravel yeah absolutely fast gravel rallies fx we really do
01:10:12appreciate you taking the time i know that it's not the best conversation to be having but we
01:10:16appreciate the explanation and there'll be many times where we can talk about podiums and all the
01:10:20other things that will come throughout the season all right thank you for that chat we've got more stages
01:10:26on the way for you we're going to be bringing the cheeky super special in a bit as well can calais get
01:10:31a clean sweep on the stage wins well that is all to come for you so make sure you stick with us
01:10:36there's plenty more action coming up throughout the evening this is a long day it was the longest
01:10:40day in terms of kilometers and i think it might be the longest stint we've done in a while in terms
01:10:43of hours as well shenny looking forward to the next stage absolutely look at i know i know it's not
01:10:48been the most exciting rally in terms of battles has it but it's the tech the technical stuff in
01:10:53the background so exciting all right we'll see you on the other side of this is goodbye for now thank you
