00:00Nagbabalik ang PTB Sports at para naman sa ating Sports Banter, muli mga kasama natin live sa studio
00:05ang The Asian Tournament Leg One Champion na Aces.
00:09Ayan, and dyan, Denzel Wong, of course, Brian Ilan, Alfred Gayo, Saeher Alexander, and Marcus Elliott.
00:17Good morning, guys!
00:18Good morning!
00:19At syempre, fresh na fresh yan from Pasi, Iluilong.
00:23Congratulations on your fourth champion, tama ba?
00:27Yes, yes.
00:28Syempre, back to back to back to back.
00:30Pero namin ko na si Denzel.
00:32Sir Denzel, this is your fourth championship, and you've been very consistent sa mga different legs ng The Asian Tournament,
00:41mapa-Pilipinas man, o mapa-out of the country.
00:44So how are you able to sustain that?
00:46I think it's basically our teamwork.
00:49Yung teamwork namin, yun yung nagtulungan kami lahat.
00:52Binigay namin yung best namin every time na sa court kami.
00:54And if something's missing in our court for our team, our vets always stand up and tell us what to do.
01:03So basically, it's a team effort talaga.
01:05And of course, teammate Sheila, ito, this leg won finals.
01:10PNB Sports Network covered the finals of the Asian Tournament.
01:14And of course, the MVP of that game against Pasi, Grumpy Joe Titans is,
01:19non other than that, Xavier Alexander, of course, he garnered a triple-double.
01:23So I just wanna ask, Xavier, can you take us back to that finals game?
01:27And what's your motivation to tally a play-ball double and lead your team to your fourth championship?
01:36And of course, personally, it's your sixth championship in this Asian Tournament.
01:39For me, like Denzel said, just staying consistent, continuing to be all about the team.
01:49You know, not really worried about attributes or stats or anything like that.
01:53And just continuing to try to win, continuing to try to be a champion.
01:57And, you know, it feels good to win.
02:00Everybody wants to win.
02:01So we try to continue to do that and continue to do what it takes to be a winner.
02:06Xavier, as you've mentioned in our interview last Sunday,
02:10you're undefeated while you're playing in the Pasi City Arena.
02:14So how special is that for you that every time you play in Iloilo,
02:18you're undefeated and in that arena, you won your sixth championship in the Asian Tournament?
02:25Iloilo is a great place for me.
02:28I don't know if it's lucky or, you know, I just love the fans there.
02:32And, you know, it's the city of love.
02:34So I get a lot of love there.
02:37And I've been able to be successful there with my team.
02:41Ayan.
02:41Punta naman ako kay Coach Brian Ilad at syempre kay Alfred Gaiosa.
02:45You've been playing sa collegiate basketball since then, ngayon,
02:50from college to professional basketball league with Aces.
02:54So far at ilang championship na ang nakuha nyo,
02:58gaano ba kahirap o gaano ba kadali itong makuha ang inyong kampiyonato?
03:03Kay Coach Brian, muna.
03:06Well, for the remaining games namin,
03:11pinagandaan namin lahat from our defense
03:15and especially on our offensive side,
03:20it's a collective effort for all the coaching staff down to the players also.
03:28And luckily, we got our fourth championship last leg,
03:35which is held at Pasi Iloilo.
03:38Alfred?
03:40Para sa akin, yung sa pag-adjustment namin from collegiate to professional league like this,
03:48ano siya, yung pagiging physicality ng games,
03:51at naging madali sa akin na sa pag-a-adjust ng games,
03:55sa mga games namin dahil sa mga veterans namin tulad ni Marcus at Xavier.
04:01Hey, and now let me go to Marcus.
04:04Marcus, if I'm not mistaken,
04:05you started playing with Aces when you started playing for the Asian tournament,
04:10am I right?
04:11Mm-hmm.
04:12Okay, so you've been with Aces for the longest time,
04:15and how's the transition?
04:17Like, this is your first Philippine team so far.
04:20The transition's been pretty well.
04:23Everybody's made me feel like I've been at home.
04:25The best thing about our team is that we just have a collective of a...
04:30It feels like a brotherhood, like a real family.
04:33So, you know, I fit right in.
04:36I'm pretty adaptable, so I'm enjoying it.
04:40First Philippine team, first time in the Philippines as well with them?
04:43Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:44My first time playing for a Filipino organization.
04:48Not my first time playing in the Philippines or competing in the Philippines, but yes.
04:51Just a follow-up for Marcus, since this is your first time playing in the Philippines
04:56and playing for a Filipino team,
04:59how different is the brand of basketball here in the Philippines compared in your workplace abroad?
05:06The brand of Filipino basketball, I feel like when you're born Filipino,
05:12it's automatically in your blood to love basketball.
05:15Everybody watches basketball.
05:17You can walk down the street and see kids playing basketball outside all day,
05:21in the rain, every day.
05:23So, that's what I love about it.
05:25I like the passion.
05:26I like that everybody has their own opinion about the styles of play from different players.
05:32But as a whole, I think basketball is in the Filipino blood.
05:36Okay, punta naman ako kay Denzel.
05:38Denzel, kung si James Bond ay 007, license to kill.
05:41Ikaw naman daw.
05:42Ikaw ang may license to shoot sa iyong team.
05:45Wow, in the last game, you had 60 points.
05:48Mainit-init.
05:49Mainit-init.
05:49Yeah, hot shooting hands.
05:51Ngayon, para sa'yo, I mean, ano ba yung lagi mong iniisip on the floor,
05:55I mean, competing with other teams?
05:57At, well, for a fact na hindi naman ikaw yung isa.
06:00I mean, isa ka sa, isa talaga nga shooter,
06:03isa sa mga teams sa the Asian Tournament.
06:07For me, it's just the hard work, no?
06:09Susipag talaga, tsaka tsaga lang.
06:11Every time I go to practice, you can ask my teammates,
06:14before practice, I would really work my skill sets out.
06:17And then, it's not only before practice, even after practice,
06:21I would still stay for maybe an hour to just work on my own skill sets,
06:24especially on my shooting, kasi maliit tayo,
06:28hindi naman ako matangkaran kagaya ng iba.
06:31So, I think for me to have an advantage on the court,
06:34I have to make my shots so that people would be playing more hard defense on me
06:43and that it would open up an opportunity to my teammates.
06:46And again, the accomplishments I had is not because of my personal accolades,
06:52you know, like, it's a team.
06:54So, I always think what will be helpful for the team
06:56and my teammates are always there to support me.
06:59And if, for me, if shooting more is gonna help us win more,
07:04then I'll do it just for the team, not because of myself.
07:06So, basically, it's for the team.
07:08You know, I was able to witness how your team progressed
07:11since the first time you joined the Asian Tournament.
07:15So, yung unang sali nyo, hindi naging maganda.
07:17Yung naging resulta ng performance nyo.
07:19But then, after that leg, you decided to bring in, you know,
07:24isang mga magagaling na players, whether it's an import or Filipino.
07:28So, how were you able, you know, to put them all together in one team
07:33and actually bring or come up with a champion team?
07:38I think the Filipinos already have that heart
07:41even though when we started playing,
07:44we just needed the right pieces to make it right.
07:47So, Xavier coming in from different championship teams
07:50and especially, he came from another team that won championship also.
07:54So, I think his leadership helped our team
07:58and then Marcos being a former ABL MVP
08:01and also from a champion team,
08:03both of them led the way for the team.
08:06They became a leader
08:07and they also helped influence the teammates
08:11to work harder and to give out their best
08:15and so show them their capabilities.
08:17Okay, let's head to...
08:21I just want to ask Xavier again,
08:22as I've mentioned earlier,
08:24you won a total of six championships
08:26in the Asian tournament.
08:28Do you consider yourself as maybe one of the greatest
08:30of all time in the Asian tournament
08:32since you've won six championships
08:34in this tournament?
08:37Yeah, for me,
08:39six championships means a lot.
08:42These last four mean a lot
08:43because like they said,
08:45the brotherhood and the camaraderie of the team,
08:47for me,
08:50you know, championships are not won
08:51without your teammates.
08:53So, you know,
08:54I try to give them
08:55and give the team whatever it takes to win
08:57and, you know,
08:59hopefully it doesn't stop here at six.
09:01Hopefully, you know,
09:02we can get 10, 20,
09:04whatever it is.
09:06I'm about the championships.
09:07So, the final question is,
09:11Xavier,
09:12will you aim for that seventh title
09:14in the upcoming league two
09:15in China?
09:16Yeah, no doubt.
09:17If the aces are in the building
09:19and, you know,
09:21I'm there able to play
09:22and, you know,
09:24we're able to take the court,
09:25then we're looking for a championship.
09:27So,
09:28that's what we're going for.
09:29And like I said,
09:30seven this time,
09:31you know,
09:33it was a long week,
09:34but we were able to,
09:36you know,
09:36relax now
09:37and rest our bodies
09:39and get back to work
09:39and go for the seventh one.
09:42Ayan kay Denzel,
09:43last one,
09:44what's next for aces?
09:47For us,
09:48we just maybe
09:49get our rest
09:50since we came from
09:51a week long of our games
09:53and then
09:53probably after a week,
09:56get back to work
09:57and busy.
09:58Our team is always like a family.
10:00So,
10:00you can see the bond together
10:01on and off the court.
10:03So, we still continue that bond
10:04and then
10:04we also work hard.
10:06So, we work hard
10:06for that next championship
10:07that we want to get.
10:08Ayan,
10:09mabilisan lang.
10:10So,
10:10do you have anyone
10:12to shout out
10:13at napasalamatan?
10:15Unahin ko muna si Coach Bryant.
