00:16The Jeonju District Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday that 72-year-old Moon was indicted for bribery.

00:23Former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik was also indicted in the same case for bribery and breach of trust.

00:29Prosecutors allege that Moon's son-in-law received a job, salary, and living expenses from a Thai airline controlled by Lee,

00:37while Lee served as head of the Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups Agency between 2018 to 2020.

00:44The payments, amounting to 5.95 million baht, or approximately 780,000 ringgit, were allegedly a form of bribery to Moon.

00:56Yoon Kun-young, a close aide to Moon and a Democratic Party lawmaker, denounced the charges in a Facebook post,

01:03calling them ridiculous and groundless, and accusing prosecutors of targeting Moon without proper investigation.

01:10Moon, a liberal former civil rights lawyer, served as president from 2017 to 2022.

01:17The indictment comes as South Korea prepares for a snap presidential election on June 3.

01:24Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party and a frontrunner in polls,

01:28has called the charges against Moon politically motivated and an act of retribution by the prosecution against the previous administration.
