South Korean investigators call to formally charge President Yoon

The agency leading criminal investigations into impeached former-leader Yoon Suk Yeol have recommended he be formally charged with insurrection and abuse of power.

00:07president Yoon Suk-hyo, accusing him of rebellion, abuse of power, and obstruction

00:12of Parliament. The Corruption Investigation Office has been leading a

00:18probe into Yoon with police and military authorities and detained him last week.

00:23They said Yoon staged a riot seeking to undermine the Constitution when he

00:30declared martial law in December. At the same time, Yoon and his former defense

00:36minister appeared at a hearing on Thursday at a separate trial on his

00:40impeachment. Yoon has insisted that his actions were not intended to undermine

00:46Parliament, but as a warning to break political deadlock. His team claims that

00:53Yoon's detention and the criminal investigation are illegal.
