00:22Budget papers in 2014 have line items there, $50 billion ripped out of health, $30 billion

00:27ripped out of education.

00:29That was the 2014 Abbott budget.

00:33Education went from $13 to $25 billion, Prime Minister.

00:36What you're talking about is the growth.

00:38Your argument, and I'll pay you credit on this, your argument is that the growth should have

00:43been higher.

00:44And the growth was there every year.

00:46The funding went up every year.

00:48Surely you can see that.

00:49What you're saying is that it should have gone up by a bit more each year, and that's what

00:53you describe as a cut.

00:54But in actual fact, if you're telling the truth...

00:57The 2014 budget described it as a cut, as a saving.

01:01If you were being honest, you would admit that funding went up each year.

01:04$50 billion in health and $30 billion in education.

01:07Every year, every year went up.

01:08Well, our population is increasing.

01:10You had the allocation that had been previously put in the budget prior to you coming to office.

01:16You ripped $80 billion out of those two items in 2014.

01:20Prime Minister, you couldn't lie straight in bed, honestly.

01:43I think my time as a police officer, where you see some truly horrible things.

01:47You're dealing with victims of crime who are in the worst moment in their lives.

01:52Hardened is a word that people use, and I think when you go to deliver a death message

02:00to a family whose son is overdosed, or you go to a shooting or to a car accident where

02:06a child's been killed, I do think that has a big impact on you, and it certainly has on

02:10me.

02:11I've always been serious in my public life as a police officer and since I've been in

02:15parliament in protecting people, and I'm very genuine about that.

02:18What do you say to the opposition claims that you're too soft?

02:21That you're too wishy-washy?

02:22Do we need more of a hard man as a leader?

02:24It's just rhetoric.

02:26Kindness isn't weakness.

02:29Kindness is something that I was raised with.

02:33We raise our children to be compassionate with each other, but I've been capable of making

02:40tough decisions.

02:41You don't turn a $78 billion deficit into a $22 billion surplus without making tough decisions.
