00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10We got Ricky on the phone today who is honoring his brother Robert today for Military Monday.
00:15Ricky, tell us about how your brother Robert has served our country.
00:19All right, so my brother joined the military in 2003 right out of high school.
00:23Wow.
00:23He was deployed in Iraq three times, deployed in Afghanistan three times.
00:28He's still actively serving.
00:31He's actually moved back to Tampa, still in the military, and he's just a few years away from retiring.
00:36So I wanted to call in and give him a shout out and give him some flowers.
00:39Wow, that is great.
00:40So right out of high school, now is this something that he always wanted to do, or is there more members of your family that has served?
00:47Our grandfathers have been in the military, but that was right around after 9-11.
00:53It was kind of like a thing you wanted to do right out of high school.
00:57We thought it would be good for him as a career, and he's stuck to it, and he's still in there today.
01:02Wow.
01:02Now, Ricky, is Robert your older or younger brother?
01:05He's my older brother by six years, I believe.
01:08I forget.
01:09Okay.
01:09I can't imagine how hard that is.
01:12Watching your brother go to Iraq three times and then come home and then go to Afghanistan three times.
01:18I mean, how do you even get through that?
01:22He's trying not to think about it, honestly.
01:25You know, wishing the best.
01:26He's been super courageous about it, never worried, and, you know, was excited to go and be a part of, you know, the whole movement, I guess.
01:32So he's taken it really well, and, you know, I kind of just let him worry about that, and I just let him, you know.
01:40When he was gone, were you guys able to communicate much?
01:43Yeah, he was able to call sometimes from some super random numbers, but he would call right home sometimes, but over there, it's kind of hard to get a hold of him, you know.
01:53Yeah, I can imagine.
01:54Now, when your brother is not serving and he's out of uniform, what are some things that he likes to do here in Tampa?
01:59Oh, man, we've gone to Bucs games, we've gone to Lightning games, Rays games, putt-putt golf, all types of stuff.
02:07You know, just to get away from the seriousness of the military and what it's going to call for.
02:12Yeah, it's important for, you know, those guys to take a break, a mental break, and a physical break, obviously.
02:18So I'm glad that you're there with him, and you guys can hang out and do some not as stressful things as over there serving our country.
02:26So, well, you know what?
02:27I am really glad, Ricky, that you called up today, and we get to learn a little bit about your brother, Robert,
02:33who has been serving in our Army for over 20 years and getting ready to retire soon.
02:38Absolutely.
02:39Well, Ricky, we want to do this for Robert.
02:41We want to give you a $100 gift card from our friends at Stingray Chevrolet.
02:44It's a small way for us to say thank you for his service, his dedication, and his sacrifice, and we appreciate you reaching out to us.
02:50Wow, thank you. That's so awesome of you guys.
02:52It is the least we could do, man. Thank you so much.
02:55Well, if you want to nominate someone for Military Monday or First Responder Friday, you just go to 995QIK.com.
03:01It just takes a couple minutes, and we'd love to hear your story.
