00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.

00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.

00:10It is Military Monday. We get to honor somebody right here from our community who serves our country.

00:16It takes such a special person to do this.

00:18And I love it when people want to call up and brag on the people in their family and those that they love.

00:23And today we have Jennifer on the phone. Good morning, Jennifer. How are you?

00:27Good morning. How are you?

00:28Now your husband has been serving our military. Tell us a little bit about him.

00:34He's a master sergeant in the Air Force. He's currently stationed at MacDill.

00:39He's been in the Air Force for 18 years as a security force defender.

00:44He's deployed three times and has had one hardship tour away from us.

00:48Holy cow. So have you been with him from the beginning of his career?

00:53The whole time he's been serving, yeah.

00:55We actually met a few months before he joined the military and we've been together ever since.

00:59Wow. So you stuck it through all these years.

01:04Yes.

01:05Oh my gosh.

01:05So, you know, you've been doing this for so long.

01:08I can't imagine it gets any easier.

01:12But what is maybe something that you've just come to terms with, with, you know,

01:16having a husband who's been serving and being deployed all these, all these years?

01:22Family and friends are definitely important.

01:25I've been a close-knit group of family and friends just to help out when needed.

01:29Yeah.

01:30Definitely.

01:31Now, because he serves, I mean, have you guys moved around a lot?

01:34I mean, it's probably hard to have family and friends help you.

01:38So we've been to Wyoming, Maryland.

01:41He actually went to Korea for a year without us and we moved back to Tampa for that year.

01:47And then he was stationed over, we got blessed and was stationed over in Patrick Air Force Base,

01:52which is in Brevard County, for five years.

01:54And then his last basin is actually MacDill.

01:58So we've definitely been blessed these last couple years.

02:00So is this where he's going to retire then?

02:04Are you guys done moving around?

02:06Yes.

02:06Done.

02:07Done.

02:08Awesome.

02:09We've got two more years and, yep, we'll be done.

02:11Now, do you think he's actually really going to be done?

02:14Because it seems like a lot of these guys retire, but then they have a calling to go back in

02:19or continue doing some sort of work to help out those in the military.

02:24I think his plans are to hopefully get something at the base.

02:28Yeah.

02:28He likes the contract, he's thinking about doing the contracting.

02:32Not really sure exactly.

02:34We have a 14-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son, so we definitely want to stay here.

02:38And this is where we're from, actually.

02:40Oh, that works out good.

02:42Yeah.

02:42So when he finally gets a chance to take the uniform off, what do you guys like to do?

02:46A lot of outdoor stuff.

02:48He's very into sports, golfing, fishing.

02:51Again, we have an 11-year-old boy.

02:53He helps to coach his baseball team.

02:55Very cool.

02:56Just go to a sporting event.

02:59A lot of family stuff.

03:01Well, you know, like I said, it takes a very special person to serve in our military.

03:07And we always say that it's not just the person serving, but it's the person at home.

03:11I mean, you sacrifice so much as well.

03:14Raising kids while he's out serving our country.

03:16We want to thank you as well as your husband, Garen.
