00:34thinking windsor senior helped police set up a sting operation this week to take down a pair

00:41of alleged fraudsters and return money to two other victims bonnie bednarik got a call from a

00:50man claiming to be her grandson you know this is the traditional scam he said he was in trouble

00:56with the cops and he needed ninety three hundred dollars for bail yeah what they didn't know is

01:03that was the third call bonnie had received like that in the past few months alone wow she's like

01:10again huh he's in real trouble he's got to seek out some it's a real pain in the ass kid the first

01:16two times bonnie did the lease away not today yeah and hung up right yeah this time she's like

01:23yeah i'm gonna play along see where this goes all right i'll play your games your scammer games the

01:3074 year old said this time they pissed me off after getting a call from the woman the windsor police

01:37financial crimes unit set up surveillance and they arrested two guys as they approached bonnie's house

01:44to get money because she wanted to set up a sting they called me helpless bonnie

01:48helpless all the kinds of cash bonnie there were 12 similar cases in the area in the last month

01:59alone when bonnie's phone rang though the person on the other end of the line acted upset

02:04so that's why she didn't recognize his voice he said come on it's your grandson

02:11she's like i don't know you keep getting into trouble i can't help you so what's your middle name

02:17yeah um he said he got into an accident with his friend dave it was dave's car

02:23they found pills in the glove compartment and that's why he was arrested and he was in jail

02:28and he needed the bond money and then he started crying and he told me he loved me so much

02:32that's when he told me he needed 9 300 so bonnie said oh okay yeah i'll go get it right away

02:41i gotta go to the bank first she said come with me the man said no don't go to the bank she said oh

02:48i have to and she said i'll call you back in 15 minutes that's when she hung up and called the

02:55cops right away the fraud unit mobilized set up surveillance near her house

02:59she had to stall the cops made her stall so they could get everything in line just i'm having

03:05trouble getting the money but it's it's here just uh wait outside i'll get it to you just let me go

03:11upstairs real quick okay okay i'm gonna wait you go upstairs and get the money stay there stay there

03:17i'll wait i'll wait right here i'm gonna count it out it's all in ones okay oh you don't have any

03:21bigger bills one oh no two okay what three oh my god four what did you want ninety three hundred

03:44bonnie bonnie we need a couple more hours where's that money listen i've had to break into a bunch of

03:59one dollar that makes two dollars i kept coming up with new things to stall i bought another hour

04:09because i said i uh my husband wasn't home yet and i needed the car to get the money i'm down to the

04:27finally bonnie's so-called grandson said okay grandma i'm gonna send someone to pick up the cash

04:34and finally the cops were there and all set up so bonnie allowed them to come when they showed up

04:39the cops got them good god bonnie said i have to say to windsor seniors you need to be vigilant

04:45do not give money to a stranger you call the police if you get a call like this first of all

04:50you never give them your grandson or granddaughter's name you ask them what the name is you call the

04:57police you call your family don't give money to anybody you don't know make sure you're ready to

05:02count change out tips from bonnie they do not go quick the fraud unit there's bonnie's she held a

05:10press conference don't mess with bonnie bonnie's pretty badass well she's tired of it she's like

05:15can i hold a press conference so nobody calls me again saying they have my grandson

05:19three times in a couple of months she's like listen i had to count out so much change just to stall them

05:26be ready uh she's definitely a badass grandma and if any other grandmas get tips i mean i tell all my

05:36parents about this all the time every new scam i find out about but i i feel like grandparents are so

05:43nice most of them i'm just like i mean like i i guess it's like a good thing my grandma didn't have

05:48to my grandma believed every phone call she ever got so i'm glad that she you know didn't have to see

05:53all this yeah oh for sure yeah because she would have been like andy are you kidnapped again
