00:00Well, I'm very honored to be joined now by Moldovan Parliament member Marina Tauber.

00:04Marina, it's always really good to get your insider's perspective on all of this.

00:09I mean, first off, I just want to get your general reaction.

00:12We have one of the holiest days of the year, one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Jerusalem,

00:18an archbishop prevented from going.

00:20When you first heard the story, what did you think?

00:25To be honest with you, I'm shocked.

00:30There are a lot of emotions, and there are no explanations of these situations.

00:37All of us are following what has happened on Holy Thursday, and what was happening today, unfortunately.

00:47And it left us without words.

00:50It is an outrageous situation.

00:53And I think it is really the last step that could do our government, and personally Maya Sandhu, and PAS governing regime.

01:06These days should be full of love, peace, and the people should get united.

01:18What is Maya Sandhu doing?

01:20She is trying to put pressure on our church, and on our religion, on thousands, hundreds of thousands of people that live in Moldova,

01:34that are waiting for our delegation from Jerusalem, to bring the holy fire, and to bring all of the people of Moldova together.

01:51And this is very difficult to recognize, and I'm very sorry to understand that the whole world now is talking about Moldova in such a way.

02:08Well, you know what was interesting for me?

02:12Obviously, we had the initial detention on Thursday.

02:15Then we saw that the Archbishop tried again to fly out on Friday.

02:20He was detained for a second time.

02:22Is it surprising to you that the authorities, knowing that obviously there's a lot of public outrage,

02:30knowing, like you said, that people globally are talking about, the UN even said, we're, quote, looking into it,

02:36that they still went ahead with that second detention today.

02:40What does that say?

02:43Yes, there were really many reactions with regards to what has happened.

02:49And it is a surprising fact that our government is not hearing anything.

02:58And as well, it is very surprising to us that the European Union are not reacting on what their representatives in Moldova are doing.

03:11You know, we are already, unfortunately, used to such situations with regards to the opposition politicians.

03:20But we have never thought that something like this can happen with the clergyman in such sacred days.

03:32So what is happening in their heads?

03:36To be honest, I even don't want to comment in such days because we have seen as well the reaction of Bishop Markell,

03:47that we should stay calm and control our emotions.

03:53But I'm sure that the people in Moldova, as well as all of us,

03:59we need to definitely think what to do further.

04:04Because now this has happened.

04:08And then tomorrow they will dictate us to which temple to go.

04:14And which faith is right and which faith is wrong.

04:20It is unbelievable that something like this is happening.

04:25You know, we've obviously been speaking to a lot of guests from all around the world throughout the day as the news came in.

04:31And one of the things that we've been asking them is,

04:34do they see any echoes with what happened in Moldova, with what happened in Ukraine?

04:39Because the same accusations are there, right?

04:42They're a tool of Russian influence.

04:44That's why we need to repress.

04:46That's how they've justified entering places of worship in Ukraine, for example,

04:51in the middle of a liturgy and using violence against clergymen, arresting them.

04:59Do you see Moldova in this regard following in the same footsteps that Kiev has done?

05:05Yes, I can confirm it, definitely can confirm it,

05:11because we see such steps and the Ukrainian scenario in our country in different fields.

05:19And unfortunately, we have to recognize, especially today,

05:23that this is happening with regards to the religion and to our church.

05:31And this pressure is continuing already for some period of time.

05:38But today has happened already, as I have said already, the final step, what they could do.

05:47And yes, unfortunately, again, I have to state and I have to mention

05:52that our government and personally, Maya Sandu, is following everything what Zelensky and the Ukrainian government is doing.

06:04But now they are playing with the emotions and with the senses of the people.

06:11And again, I'm sorry to repeat, but in such days, in such holy days,

06:17this is really something that cannot even, you know, be commented with normal words.

06:28And it cannot be seen as a juridical act, because which documents can be not good for the frontier people?

06:44What could happen that a clergyman cannot leave the country for Israel to bring together with the other clergymen the holy fire?

06:56So, what can be the reason?

07:00Where is this juridical reason?

07:04Why the people that should serve our country and our interests are serving the interests of Maya Sandu and governing party?

07:14I really want to see, and together with our team and with our jurists and with our lawyers,

07:22of course, we will analyze what has happened yesterday and today and for sure will take all the legal measures possible

07:33in order to punish the people that are executing the things that are not legal

07:44and that are against the law and are against any sense.

07:50You know, you mentioned a bit earlier, you said this is a step towards them saying which churches I can go to,

08:00which religion I can adhere to.

08:02I mean, the mold of an Orthodox Church has said in the past, you know,

08:06we are fearful because we're facing increasing pressure.

08:10It even is worried that it might be banned by authorities.

08:15Do you see that as a real possibility?

08:17You know, at the moment, it is clear for us that they cannot ban our faith.

08:27And what they are doing, they are trying to limit it.

08:31But I'm sure that our people are not going to tolerate it.

08:36And this is something that actually we were telling before that this will happen

08:42because they are trying to limit everything what is related to the personal rights.

08:49And now they are trying to tell to the people, to tell to Moldavans in which church to go.

08:57And again, what I have said already, which faith is right and which faith is wrong.

09:05I don't understand how is it possible physically, but they are trying to do it.

09:12And when they are telling from the Parliamentary Tribune, especially maybe you have seen Maya Sandu,

09:20was recently in the Moldovan Parliament.

09:23To be honest, as the member of the Parliament, I still don't understand what she was doing there

09:29because we haven't invited her.

09:31But it seems that she seems very good in the Parliament and in our country,

09:39even though she's breaching the law every day.

09:42She was trying to tell us and to the whole country about peace, about love,

09:50about democracy, about human rights, about freedom.

09:55Where is it?

09:56When the bishops cannot leave the country,

10:01the Moldovans, how they should act in these holidays,

10:06and again, where they should go.

10:10So we see that everything what they were promising to our people

10:15in the context of the elections,

10:20they are even not thinking about this.

10:24I don't even understand if there is one word

10:28or one promise that was executed by them.

10:34But this is the last point

10:39that they could proceed to.

10:43And for sure, this situation will have the very bad echo.

10:54And we're really sorry that our country now is in all the news,

11:01but not from the positive side

11:03and from the negative side

11:05because of the things that have happened.

11:09You know, you also raised in one of your earlier answers

11:13Europe and Brussels.

11:16I mean, obviously, we know that Moldova has aspired

11:19to join the European community.

11:21It was given candidate status in 2022.

11:25You would think then that it would adhere to, quote,

11:29European values.

11:30We obviously hear from Brussels exactly like you were saying

11:32about Maya Sandhu.

11:34Freedom, human rights, respect, religious freedom.

11:37And yet, so far, as far as I'm aware,

11:42Brussels has remained silent

11:44on what happened to Archbishop Markel.

11:48Is that a surprise to you?

11:49And also, do you think that how deeply entrenched

11:55is Brussels, for example, in the Romanian Orthodox Church?

12:01Look, we are very much disappointed

12:06on what Europe is doing in our country.

12:09And it's not about geopolitics now.

12:12And it's not about what the Victory Bloc

12:16is thinking about geopolitics.

12:19Yes, we were stating for many times

12:21that the friendship with the Russian Federation

12:25is very important for Moldova

12:27from the different points of view.

12:30But now I can tell you,

12:32as a citizen of my country,

12:35that Europe is trying to make some experiments

12:38on Moldovans.

12:40Of course, they do it not only in our country.

12:43They are doing as well such things

12:46and in Romania, as you have mentioned now.

12:49But, of course, we are much more concentrated

12:54on what is happening in Moldova.

12:57And it's really our task

13:00to fight with such things.

13:03So today I will talk maybe a bit more

13:07about our country.

13:09And if Romanian citizens and Romania

13:12is okay with what is happening

13:15and what is Europe dictating to them,

13:19we are not okay.

13:21We don't agree.

13:23And these words are confirmed

13:26by the result of the referendum

13:29and presidential elections.

13:32They just wrote the results.

13:38Not people voted them.

13:41And we have a lot of evidence for this.

13:44And all the world has seen

13:47the concrete examples.

13:51So they are just capturing the power

13:55in our country.

13:57And they are doing it, unfortunately.

14:01They, I mean, Maya Sandhu, PAS,

14:05and actually the European Union.

14:08Because mainly European Union

14:10is ruling now in Moldova.

14:13Not Moldovan politicians.

14:16Because 90% of the people

14:19that are in PAS party

14:22and are occupying important functions

14:25are Romanian citizens.

14:28And all of them, we do know

14:31that they are working on some other interests,

14:34not on Moldovan interests.

14:35And when people from Europe

14:38are coming to Moldova,

14:40and I'm sorry to say this,

14:42it is not diplomatic,

14:44but after what has happened today

14:47and Brussels is still remaining silent,

14:50I don't think that we should remain diplomatic.

14:53They are eating our money.

14:57Our state is spending money on their delegations,

15:03on their hotels, on their meals,

15:05on their parties, and etc.

15:07And they are trying to fool us

15:11with these pretended values,

15:15like you have said and I have said.

15:19Democracy, human rights,

15:21the rule of law, freedom, and etc.

15:25Where is it?

15:26And if they don't agree

15:28what Maya Sandu and PAS is doing in Moldova,

15:33they shouldn't be silent.

15:35But we do understand that they support it.

15:37And I would say even more,

15:39I'm sure that these indications

15:42came from Brussels,

15:44from European coordinators

15:48that are helping Maya Sandu

15:53and all of her team,

15:56let's say like this,

15:57to stay in their functions.

16:01Because now they are using really power

16:05to stay in these functions.

16:07People of Moldova

16:09don't want them anymore

16:11in these functions.

16:13And again, I'm talking now

16:15and telling you the concrete examples

16:17of these routines

16:19that Moldova has faced in autumn.

16:23And we know that

16:25the next parliamentary elections

16:27are coming very soon.

16:30It is already the decision

16:33that was voted in the parliament.

16:36And we do understand

16:38that they are trying to prepare

16:41again the fraud of the votes.

16:45And what they are doing now,

16:48they are trying to say to everyone,

16:50everyone, to every field,

16:53even the field of church

16:55and the field of religion,

16:58that they will dictate us what to do.

17:03And that Moldavans

17:04don't have,

17:06cannot have any opinion,

17:08and they just have to do

17:10what the European Union is telling.

17:12I'm sorry,

17:13but we were waiting

17:15from the European Union

17:16some roads,

17:18some lightning systems,

17:21maybe better situation

17:24in the financial field,

17:27pensions,

17:28good salaries,

17:29and et cetera.

17:30But what we see

17:32is that they came to our country

17:34and there is no more space

17:36and no more place

17:38for us Moldovans.

17:40I'm sure that this is happening

17:42in the other countries,

17:44but I think, again,

17:46I will tell this

17:47that it's better

17:47that we comment

17:49on the things

17:50that are happening in Moldova

17:52because we are Moldovan

17:53members of the parliament.

17:55And first of all,

17:57we have to do everything

17:59in order to promote

18:01the interests of Moldovans.

18:03they have delegated us

18:05to the parliament

18:06namely for this.

18:07But I'm very sorry

18:08that this globalist agenda

18:12is faced by different countries

18:17all over the world.
