00:00Welcome back to another Luanti mod review.

00:04Today we are looking at the Amethyst mod, which as you can see here in front of you

00:09adds geodes, I guess, made of amethyst, pretty sure.

00:17So they are, you know, obviously underground, generally where we find geodes.

00:23How far underground are we?

00:25Currently about negative 300.

00:27I don't know if they necessarily spawn higher than that.

00:29I see one up here.

00:31The spawning, I guess, is actually handled by geolibs, geodeslib.

00:38But the actual, all of the nodes that we see here are handled by this mod.

00:44So yes, you will need geodlib.

00:45However, if you install it with the in-game content browser, it will automatically install

00:49that for you.

00:50That's not the one I wanted to look at though, ah, this is the one.

00:53So you'll just randomly bump into these whilst mining underground.

00:57I was, you know, doing my thing here.

01:00Mining, of course.

01:01Of course, I was totally no-clipping and flying around trying to find this.

01:06And, whoa, what do you know?

01:08There's a hole in the wall.

01:09Well, first it has, I want to say this is basalt.

01:12I can actually find out really quick.

01:14Yep, basalt around the outermost rim of it.

01:17And then you have a layer of calcite?

01:20Calcite, yes.

01:21And then we get to the actual amethyst, which as you can see here, quite a bit of it.

01:28That's going to be quite a fall if I do that.

01:31So let's try this.

01:32Oh, that made things just so much better.

01:35And so let's get through.

01:37Yeah, still going to be quite the fall.

01:40I'm clearly not going to have an easy way out, but that's fine.

01:44We don't really need to get out of this beautiful geode.

01:47So we're surrounded by amethyst here.

01:50Of course, mining it with a diamond pickaxe.

01:54No problemo.

01:55I don't know, actually, if we can do this with a stone pickaxe.

01:58I just happened to have a diamond one on me, you know, as one does.

02:02Oh yeah, stone, no problem.

02:05Can stone break this?

02:06It sure can, although it takes a while.

02:09I would assume that means it can also break the basalt.

02:11I should have really just stayed where I was at, because there would have been basalt

02:15behind this and gotten to the basalt that way.

02:19Ah, right here.

02:21Is it breaking it?

02:22Yes, I think so.

02:26Hard to tell.

02:27Oh yeah, totally.

02:29So stone pickaxe, no problem.

02:31It's a little slow, but it works.

02:35Now, things to note.

02:38There are these half-broken looking amethyst blocks.

02:44These are actually budding amethyst, which will sprout these little amethyst crystals,

02:52I guess.

02:54Put some extra light out.

02:56They do glow a little bit, which is why I didn't have the torches placed around it right

03:00away.

03:01So yeah, this will grow, and there's a couple up here, and it'll just pick a random face.

03:06I don't know if it'll ever do multiple faces on the same block or not.

03:12But yeah, it'll grow a crystal off of it, and the crystal will grow to different sizes.

03:16Actually, we have one up here with two crystals on it.

03:18So yeah, it can grow off multiple sides.

03:21So theoretically, if we were to clear the space around this, we could potentially grow a crystal

03:29on each one of these sides.

03:31Now it is worth noting.

03:33So we have the amethyst blocks, right?

03:35If we break this crystal, which I think I just used the pickaxe for.

03:39Oh, whoops.

03:40I accidentally broke the block too.

03:42Ew.

03:43And it wasn't fully grown, so I didn't get the shard.

03:46So the, whatever this little sprouty guy is called, I think there's three levels to it.

03:56Let's see here.

03:57This is a cluster small.

03:59They kind of all look like they're small clusters, honestly.

04:02That one might be a little bit larger.

04:04Let's see.

04:06That's a medium cluster.

04:08And these both look like small clusters.

04:13So the clusters do grow.

04:16And I'm not sure if the medium one will, but the large one for sure will give you some

04:21crystal shards.

04:23And the shards can be crafted into a block once you have nine of them.

04:29Or you can take the blocks and craft them into shards.

04:31You can switch back and forth between the two.

04:33Now you will note, seeing as how I accidentally dug up the budding crystal here, that it just

04:40drops the full amethyst block.

04:42So you can't, like, make a farm and just, you know, harvest all of the budding nodes and then

04:51harvest the crystals off of them.

04:53I don't know if that's really going to be an issue, seeing as how the geode is chuck full

04:57of amethyst and it's not exactly like, these are overly difficult to come upon.

05:02I mean, in this small area, there's one, there's two, there's three, there's four, there's five,

05:09there's six.

05:11That might be a, oh, that's a seventh right there.

05:15That looks like an eighth.

05:18This might be a ninth, or this could be a dungeon.

05:22I think it's a, nope, it's a geode.

05:24So they're quite, quite common.

05:27Now of course, if you're not flying around with no clip, it'll be a little more difficult

05:32to find.

05:33But in the case of, you know, normal strip mining, they'll probably bump into a few pretty

05:40easily.

05:41So, besides the geodes themselves sparsing up the underground, otherwise boring and monotonous

05:50world, what else do they add?

05:52Well, I'm glad you asked.

05:54We have a variety of things that we can craft with the amethyst.

05:59So as already mentioned, we can craft back and forth between the shards and the blocks.

06:04But the basalt, we can also make basalt blocks out of.

06:09Standard stone to block conversion there.

06:11And bricks, again, I think that's the standard conversion, the bricks, or the, just the plain

06:17nodes for them to make for bricks.

06:19And then you can also do the brick walls.

06:23And same thing for the calcite.

06:25You can make all the same.

06:27You can do a nice checkerboard pattern floor, which is pretty nice.

06:33Pretty obvious pattern there.

06:35Two special ones.

06:36We have a bronze amethyst lantern, which, you know, I don't have...

06:46Let's just do that so I can actually grab some of these.

06:55There we go.

06:56It also adds permanent fire.

06:58I didn't know that.

07:00Okay, so we have the bronze lantern.

07:02I'll grab that.

07:04And the tinted glass, which the tinted glass is kind of fun.

07:08Oh, and then here we go.

07:10You know, let's just grab these just so we can see the difference between the three of them.

07:14I don't know why I put them into an inventory slot that I don't have access to in the hotbar.

07:18That was kind of silly.

07:19So there's the small one.

07:20There's the medium.

07:21And there's the large one.

07:23Looks like they all do light up.

07:25Guess we could find out how much by breaking some of these lamps.

07:30There we go.

07:32So I'm going to guess that the large one is brighter than the medium one, which is brighter

07:39than the small one.

07:41Oh, hey, what do you know?

07:44It's almost like the bigger the crystal, the more light it puts out.

07:49Back to what we were looking at.

07:50I don't know what the permanent fire is all about, but the tinted glass and the bronze amethyst

07:57lantern.

07:58And lantern, as I'm sure you had already guessed, lights up.

08:04What a surprise.

08:05Can I break?

08:06Oh, that's a surprise.

08:08You can punch it on and off.

08:09Didn't know that.

08:10I was actually trying to see if I could break it by punching it because I turned creative

08:14on.

08:15But no.

08:16And then the tinted one.

08:17Now this one, this one's a fun one.

08:21So it's a tinted glass, but it stops the light from going through.

08:27I didn't actually want to break the floor out, so let me pump that back real quick here.

08:32And then I'm going to have to break this crystal out.

08:35And put some more of these down just so we can better demonstrate.

08:41I'm going to build a little wall.

08:46Nothing too crazy or big.

08:48And put a cap on it, of course, because we need to block the light.

08:53And there is light from the top.

08:57Now, what advantage does this have?

09:03What use case does this have?

09:05Honestly, I don't know.

09:06I just thought it was a neat aspect.

09:11I can't really say a neat concept.

09:15There we go.

09:17Let me just fill this.

09:19Bada boom, bada bing.

09:22So now, we have a dark area with light right there.

09:27That's so useful.

09:29I don't know how it's useful, but it's so useful.

09:33And then, of course, if we were to be on the outside.

09:37Oh, I missed a spot in the corner.

09:39Oh, I'm stuck.

09:41If we were to be on the outside, I'd have to break all of the...

09:44Oh, no, I don't.

09:45I can just turn them off.

09:46Oh, do they still light up a little bit when they're turned off?

09:49No, I don't think so.

09:50No, there we go.

09:52Okay, so now they're all turned off.

09:53And then, let's go to the inside.

09:56So now, we have a light inside this darkened room.

10:00And we see the light does not propagate through.

10:04So, again, I don't know what practical use this has.

10:09But, yeah.

10:11Windows that are...

10:13Oh, wait.

10:14That was weird.

10:15What is...

10:18Oh, I'm seeing the inside wall of it.

10:21That's weird.

10:23That's an interesting little glitch there.

10:27Huh.

10:29Well, anyway.

10:32Glitch or not, you can still see how the light is blocked from passing through the glass.

10:41The more you know.

10:43I don't know what we would use that for, but it is useful to have.

10:47Permanent fire.

10:48I'm not sure what...

10:54No, actually, I don't know why.

11:26That is the Amethyst mod.
