00:00Welcome back to another Luanti mod review.
00:02Today we are looking at the pick and place mod.
00:06Now this mod provides an easy way to designate an area that you want to pretty much just
00:14duplicate within the world.
00:15So I have done a little work beforehand here and I created this beautiful tree and I went
00:23ahead and set this up so I can replace it multiple times within the world.
00:28So all I have to do is right click onto one of these white frame nodes here, I guess,
00:36handle node.
00:39And then I just go ahead and click where it says pick here.
00:43And you will see I now have this giant blue box which is the bounds of that.
00:50So if I want to place another tree over here, and yes you are definitely going to want to
00:54use fly for this because it is almost impossible to do otherwise.
01:00And then I am going to move myself up and down.
01:03It is a little difficult to just point because you are going in three dimensions of space.
01:11Again that is why it is important to use fly.
01:13And then I can just click and place it and what do you know I got a beautiful tree.
01:17Say I want a tree over here as well.
01:19I can go ahead and do that.
01:22Now if I have this tree in my hand, in this case it is a tree, and I right click I can also
01:29rotate it.
01:30So I can do 90 degrees, 180 or 270.
01:33If I do 180 obviously it is just going to do a straight up flip.
01:38So that should be the opposite direction of the previous, which wasn't really the best
01:44made of trees.
01:46So it is probably a little hard to tell.
01:49And then I can do a 270, no wait, do I want to do a 90 and a 90?
02:00Does this build on itself?
02:01I guess it does, okay.
02:04So there, I just placed a handful of these beautiful trees, very nice, very nice.
02:08So how do we actually do this?
02:10Well, I am glad you asked.
02:11So we are going to start, oh and by the way, once you have one it will tell you what it
02:17is.
02:18So it is a tree, rotation is at zero and it tells you the size.
02:22We are going to hide that over in the corner here and we are going to make a fresh one with
02:26this cross.
02:27So I should mention that all of these are, you can't craft them.
02:34There is one recipe that you will find, which is using a placement tool to create a pick
02:39tool and essentially use the pick tool to pick the location that you want to copy.
02:45And then when you've done that, it turns into the placement tool.
02:49But you just have to use the commands to get all of them.
02:53So that is going to be pick and place and you have pick, configure and replacement.
03:04So we are going to use a pick right now.
03:06And this one I actually, oh you know what, that is not what I want.
03:11Yeah, yeah, that is no good, I made a boo boo.
03:15So we are going to go ahead and return that over.
03:18So I want the full cube there and then I want the other full cube to be there.
03:24So now I can go ahead and place some more stone crosses.
03:32And again I can right click to rotate and you just kind of have to watch for when the
03:38bottom of it starts glitching through the ground to make sure you are on the ground level.
03:43Of course I could place it into the ground as well.
03:46Air nodes are ignored so I can just pretty much make a shorter version.
03:51Beautiful sunset in the background, very nice.
03:53But now you'll notice here that I have this once.
03:58So I could keep this placement tool, I could just stash it wherever.
04:02It doesn't tell me what it is so it is not very useful.
04:06And I could pull it back into my hot part and I could see the size of it.
04:09But I wouldn't know necessarily what it was.
04:13So this is kind of designed if you are just going to be copying something once.
04:21And then you know you could place a bunch but you are not planning on coming back to it.
04:25But now let's say you are planning on coming back to it, you know, such as this tree.
04:29It's something you want it to copy multiple times.
04:32Okay, so if we want it to come back to something multiple times, ignore the fact that I just
04:35changed the time.
04:37We're going to use the white option here.
04:41So I'm going to do the same thing.
04:43Just get my cross.
04:44Now I should mention I am punching for both clicks.
04:48And here we're going to get a name and a category.
04:50So I'm going to go ahead and call this cross and the category I am just going to give deco
04:56for decoration.
04:57But I don't think you actually have to give it a category.
05:02So then here you will notice I now have four points in the air surrounding it with the name
05:08of cross and the category of deco.
05:13So then I can go ahead and pick, which does as I've done before.
05:18And then I can go ahead and place it.
05:21And then the tool here will give me a placement tool saying cross so I know what it is.
05:28I'm just going to go ahead and turn that one back.
05:30Now I'm not sure what exactly the save does.
05:37Okay.
05:38I'm assuming.
05:39Oh, you know what?
05:40No, actually I do know what that does.
05:43And then mark with w would be for world edit, but I don't have world edit enabled.
05:47So you can save these and it will save, I believe, to the world directory.
05:51And then you could copy it into another world and place it.
05:55Although I don't know how you would pick that up.
06:03Yeah, I'm not 100% sure how you get an item.
06:08Wow, I can't even spell help.
06:09That's pretty sad.
06:11Not sure how you would get an item.
06:16Composition and a snap.
06:20Okay, well, that doesn't tell me anything about placing something from another world.
06:28Let's say, for reasons unbeknownst, I really like this little section of dirt and I want to copy it.
06:36So I'm going to go ahead and make my selection.
06:41I only want, there we go.
06:43I can go underground.
06:45And you'll see, it does give you the size of your selection.
06:52So, ten nodes tall.
06:56And now it's five nodes, but it's five nodes underground.
06:59So, I only want a single, no, actually, you know what?
07:02Cancel that.
07:03I do want it too, because I want the grass as well.
07:05So, I'm just going to call this hill and I'm not going to put a category in it.
07:11Okay.
07:12I don't know what the category specifically does.
07:15But let's go ahead and grab this hill.
07:17Pick it.
07:18Yeah.
07:19I want to place a hill right over here.
07:21Very nice.
07:22You know what?
07:23I want to put a hill in the ground.
07:25Oh, that actually, oh, because of the grass, of course.
07:28So, the grass goes into the ground.
07:30That makes sense.
07:31All right.
07:32Very nice.
07:33Very nice.
07:34I can place it on ground level.
07:35Or one, I guess one node below the ground.
07:37So, the grass itself places.
07:39But, I mean, the sand really wouldn't be because it's already there.
07:44But now, what if, you know, I didn't actually want this one here?
07:48Well, you can hold on the aux key.
07:50Oops.
07:51You can hold on the aux key.
07:53Let me try that again.
07:55So, let me put one out.
07:57And, just for lulls, let's put it into the air.
08:00Oopsies.
08:01There's not supposed to be a pocket under that.
08:03I don't want that there.
08:04I want to undo.
08:06Well, if I line this up and then hit the aux key, boom, it removes it.
08:11You can also use this just as a general, you know, remover.
08:15It doesn't have to be of anything you just placed.
08:17It'll literally just punch a hole in the ground in the size of that selection.
08:22So, you know, maybe, oh, I didn't line that up correct.
08:28Oopsies.
08:29I meant for that.
08:31Yeah.
08:32Anyways, that works like that.
08:35Then, lastly, we have these replacement notes.
08:40And, I am not entirely sure how these actually work.
08:45Because, in my testing, they didn't work so hot.
08:48So, I'm going to place a couple of these out.
08:50That's probably too many, honestly, because I have to fill them all now.
08:55And, then I can put stuff into them.
08:57So, we're going to do stone.
09:04And, I'm going to need some more wood.
09:07Default wood.
09:09Oh, I don't know.
09:1020 should do.
09:11I'm going to throw one piece of wood in each.
09:14So, wood.
09:16And, then a bunch of stone.
09:18Put it in a different spot.
09:21I don't think it makes any difference which slot they're in.
09:24You know, this one, we're actually going to put two pieces of wooden.
09:29Because, why not?
09:32And, then, this one will put two pieces of wooden as well.
09:37Just because.
09:38Alright.
09:39So, I have all of these.
09:41And, then we're going to go ahead and place some with, you know, actual material that we want.
09:48And, that center one.
09:50The center one will just leave empty.
09:51So, then I'm going to go ahead and take a new pick tool here.
09:54And, select that.
09:57So, I'm going to come over to this corner.
10:00There we go.
10:01Nope.
10:02Down a little.
10:03There we go.
10:04And, then to this corner.
10:05Alright.
10:06So, now I have a selection of that.
10:08So, when I place this.
10:10You know, let's place it in the ground.
10:13There we go.
10:14And, then let me just change my tool.
10:17So, we'll notice, if we compare the two of these, that our hole in the center.
10:23You know, we placed nothing.
10:24That was air.
10:25So, it was ignored.
10:26And, then we had wood and we had stone.
10:28We have wood.
10:29We have stone here.
10:30And, then we saw a bunch of stone placing around it.
10:34So, I'm going to go ahead and place another one of these.
10:37This one, I guess I have to do like that.
10:40Because, otherwise it's going to be in the ground.
10:43And, this one we won't be able to see the corner of, but that's fine.
10:47So, we'll notice, of course, our air node is always left alone.
10:52So, the SAM shows through.
10:54But, then these corner ones, there's some variation in them.
10:57This one placed with some wood.
10:59These ones are all stone, all stone.
11:01That one placed with some wood.
11:03So, it'll pick randomly.
11:06And, I know this wasn't a great way to demonstrate randomness.
11:08Because, I had a bunch of the same material.
11:10So, stone was favored in all of them.
11:13But, now, there's this group up here.
11:17And, I don't know, I don't know what this is supposed to do.
11:21Because, in my testing, it didn't work.
11:26So, I'm going to call a bunch group two.
11:29And, a bunch group one.
11:32So, this will be a group two again.
11:37And, then this one, we're going to call group three.
11:40And, then I need to redo that.
11:46So, now, when we select this, per what I read in the documentation,
11:51it made it sound like everything in group one should place as the same.
11:56Everything in group two should place as the same.
11:58Et cetera, et cetera.
12:02However, I don't know if that's actually the case.
12:09Because, let's go a little higher, just so that's not what I meant.
12:14But, that's fine.
12:15That'll work.
12:17Can we get one to break?
12:20Okay, see?
12:22I think this is broke.
12:24Because, isn't that corner one?
12:27I put way too much of this out.
12:28Let me turn fast more.
12:30All right.
12:31Well, now, I'm too fast.
12:33So, this is group two.
12:34But, that's group two.
12:35And, the corner is group two.
12:37So, those back three, theoretically, should always be the same.
12:39But, here, I'm getting wood, wood, and stone.
12:42These three are all stone.
12:44These three are all stone.
12:45These three are all stone.
12:46These three are all stone.
12:47These three are all stone, as are these.
12:49But, then, this one I get one piece of wood in it.
12:52And, this one I get one piece of wood.
12:54Per my understanding, that's not how that's supposed to work.
12:58So, I don't entirely understand what's going on.
13:03Also, don't leave open spaces in them.
13:07I'll just actually pull everything out.
13:09No, I know.
13:10I'll leave one in.
13:11Because, otherwise, it's really not proving my point too well.
13:16We're going to go ahead and select this one last time.
13:22There we go.
13:24And, there.
13:25Okay.
13:26And, I'll just place it in the air.
13:28Yeah, if you place, or if you pick a node that's empty, it'll place the replacement node instead of just placing air.
13:38Which, I don't know how I feel about that.
13:43Because, why would you ever want the replacement node?
13:48And, I understand if you just wanted to leave air, you would just not place anything.
13:55But, what if you randomly want there to be a chance for it to be air or for it to be, you know, a different node?
14:02IDK.
14:03Maybe you have to, you have to just do give me air, I suppose?
14:15Which, seeing as how, you know, you kind of have to have give in order to get all this stuff, I guess maybe that's a non-issue and you could just do that.
14:27Because, for a tree, that would make the most sense.
14:30So, you get some variation within your leaf pattern.
14:34You know, so, you know, that's what I would use it for.
14:40Or, you know, a patch of grass on the ground.
14:43Or, maybe you want to vary where the grass is at.
14:45So, you'd throw a couple with air nodes in and a couple with grass nodes.
14:49Or, you'd leave them blank, but then you'd get the replacement nodes, which, sure, you can go through and break, but nobody really wants to do that.
14:56Um, is that, is that all the things?
15:01Oh, um, no it's not.
15:04There's one thing, if you hold down the zoom key while you place it, it'll ignore all of your replacements.
15:13Um, I don't really know what the use case is for this, because, again, why do I want these red nodes?
15:23I don't know.
15:25Uh, but yeah, there you go.
15:27Relatively game agnostic, I believe.
15:30Um, seeing as how you have to just, you know, get them all using chat commands.
15:36Or have them given to you by somebody else.
15:40So, it should, as far as I'm aware, work with pretty much everything.
15:43And then, of course, it does have the integration with world edit as well, as we saw over on these, where you can mark with world edit.
15:50Um, so that would, if I had world edit enabled, it would just mark this as a world edit area, and then I could copy it, you know, 20 nodes to this direction.
16:00Or do whatever I wanted with world edit, clear it, whatever you have it.
16:04Um, but yeah, there you go.
16:07The pick and place mod.
16:08If you are interested in adding this mod to your worlds, I will have, well, you can download it from the in-game content browser, of course, as always.
16:15Or you can download it from my website, which will be linked down in the video description below.
16:19Thanks for watching, and I will see you next time.
