00:00In 28 years later, we tried imagining how a world would rebuild itself after an apocalypse.

00:11Initial conversations were often about imagining what does 28 years later mean?

00:17If the infection is still on Britain, what does the infection look like?

00:21Get back to the trees.

00:24How does the rest of the world respond to that?

00:27Has the country been quarantined, essentially abandoned?

00:32Holy Island, which is where our film begins, it's protected by a causeway that you can defend.

00:38But there's a lack of machinery, no electricity or fuel.

00:42Everything that surrounds our life now, suddenly it's useless.

00:45The mainland then becomes somewhere over there, which has both promise and threat.

00:52When countries collapse for one reason or another, they're often abandoned.

00:56There's a ruthless, pragmatic, dog-eat-dog dimension to the way these things play out.

01:05And the infected, these are extraordinary creatures.

01:10Pull up! Come on!

01:11They haven't died and come back to life.

01:13They're living people who've got sick and been infected with the rage virus.

01:17That dictates some stuff.

01:21They need to drink.

01:22They need to eat.

01:23If they've survived 28 years infected with this disease, what would they look like?

01:28Are they similar to anything in the animal kingdom?

01:31What would they be similar to?

01:32When you're doing a movie, you're looking for those images that will terrify people.

01:41There's a visceral element to cinema where you have a responsibility to push the envelope as far as you can go.

01:50I want that sense of suffocating intensity.
